Tacos

8.28.23 Haven't been here for a while wife and I thought we would come in for happy hour. We arrived shortly after 5 the got the last 2 seats at the bar, we ordered drinks and looked at the menu and happy hour menu. Wife ordered rice bowl said it was very good I had a soft shell crab taco and a smoked short taco. I don't think there was much difference between the smoke short rib and the regular short rib taco the smoked on was $2 more, the soft shell crab was ok the crab was tough it should have not really been served. All of the legs and the claws were like chewing on leather the inside meat under the shell was excellent once I was able to chew the legs and claws, the short rib was very tender. I don't understand why the tacos don't come with a spoon of rice at least.

Spicy Pineapple Margarita

Service was excellent! My husband and I stopped by on a Thursday evening to find the dining room was booked with reservations but the hostess said outdoor seating was available. We sat under the covered patio, and we were very comfortable. I had the Spicy Pineapple Margarita and my husband had the Herradura Tequila flight. We shared the vegetarian nachos with a side of guacamole, and we each had a short rib hand taco. Everything was delicious! Definitely will return. And check them out on Wednesday evenings as they host live music.

Great experience at Jesse Jays Kitchen...this was my third time going and on this occasion I got to partake in the outdoor seating area and expanded outdoor bar area. On this special occasion our three servers in the bar area were Kaylee, Valeria, and Chell which all took great care of us. Every drink was made special to order despite the crowds of people who also requested a cocktail. We tried several of the street tacos and they all were excellent...I'd ditch the flavored margaritas and stick to the classic. I'm picking the short rib and fish as my two favorite tacos with the fish coming in as a strong first place. Although small in stature this place leaves much behind to be remembered. Worth every bit of a 30 min drive and I guarantee you will want to come back because of the friendly service. PS if they have the empanadas get those too

Cute small restaurant. The service and food were good! Got tacos and they did not disappoint. The smothered burrito was delicious and really filling portion size. The pitcher of margaritas is a must! Would come back & recommend to others!

Pork Rinds.

Food is excellent! We sat outside with our 2 year old for lunch and she was able to run around and play in the grass right next to our table after eating. It's not as crowded on Saturday around noon so that's the best time to go with little ones. We ordered chips & queso to start. Then my husband ordered the pork rinds. Both appetizers were delicious and came with huge portions we ended up taking a lot home with us. The taco salad is always a favorite and my husband got 4 steak tacos. Both meals were amazing and my daughter got the burger off the kids menu and it looked like something I would have ordered for myself. I almost didn't want to recommend this restaurant to keep it a little secret for us but I had to share everyone else out there to try this hidden jem right here in West River, Maryland. If you are planning to sit inside make sure you make reservations online beforehand as it can get booked pretty fast on the weekends for dinner rushes. Service is excellent and most of the time the owners family is helping serve everyone their food. You can also bring your friendly dogs when sitting outside. This is a small town favorite and so happy we finally have some authentic variety this town so desperately needed!

Several of us enjoyed margaritas. Everyone thought the food was amazing. I had the Ensalada Sin Fronteras with chicken. One friend had fajitas, another one had the chile relleno, someone had the tortilla soup, and another one had a salad topped with salmon. We were welcomed warmly, and the staff checked on us frequently. Dont miss it!

We started with chips and salsa, and they were excellent. The salsa wasn't overly spicy, just full of great flavor, and the chips were fresh and crisp--definitely a strong start to the meal. My wife ordered the chicken chimichanga. It was quite different from what we usually get at the Mexican spots we frequent--it was one large chimichanga served with a small salad, whereas we're used to getting two smaller ones with rice and beans, which we usually share. Still, it was tasty and satisfying in its own unique way. I ordered the Chicharrón en Salsa Verde--crispy pork and onions in a green tomato sauce, topped with cilantro and served with rice and warm flour tortillas. It had great flavor and the pork had a nice texture--crisp but not dry. Our friends ordered a variety of dishes, including: Chile en Nogada - a stuffed poblano pepper with seasoned ground beef, covered in a chilled almond and walnut nogada sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds and served with rice. It was rich, colorful, and very flavorful. A beautiful dish with red and yellow sauces and a white cream swirl--unfortunately I can't recall the name, but it was as good as it looked. Six tacos with assorted meats--each one was fantastic. The flavors were bold and fresh. To drink, most of us had margaritas, and you could tell they use fresh ingredients--these were excellent and not overly sweet like some places serve them. Service was top-notch from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The only disappointing part of the evening came at the end, when we learned that the restaurant will be closing in about a month. The building is being torn down, possibly for high-rise condos. The staff doesn't know if or where they'll reopen. It's a real shame, especially in an area that's already struggling with traffic and congestion. More homes, fewer gems like this. I just wish we had discovered Sin Fronteras Café sooner. Hopefully they find a new home nearby, and we'll definitely try to come back before they close for good.

Anyway...we ordered drinks. Mine was good, but my husband said his margarita had no flavor. The waitress asked us about appetizers and if we wanted our guacamole regular or spicy. Of course I chose spicy. My husband got the fajita burrito and I got the trio fajitas. When his burrito arrived I almost laughed out loud. It was half the size of every burrito I've ever seen! Mine dinner had 3 shrimp, a little bit of steak, and a bit more chicken. What it lacked in flavor and meat, it made up for in an over abundance of uncooked onions! Not what I was expecting. It was so disappointing. Speaking of disappointment, the bill.... For over $110 dollars we got two drinks, an appetizer, and two dinners. I'm fine with a $100 meal just not this meal. The guac was $16.50 with an added $1.50 for "spicy"! The 1/2 sized burrito and 3 shrimp were also super overpriced. Overall, we saw the potential in this place but it was disappointing. The waitress was wonderful and kept the water full. Sadly, we won't be back since our local places are so much better.
