Top clockwise, "Orange chicken", rice, Kare Kare

I'm actually not that impressed. The flavor was lacking and the food was cold... They had a very chalky kare kare, something they called orange chicken that was actually soppy breaded chicken pieces swimming in a sweet thai chili sauce, a flattened fried eggplant that was soggy, and some type of pork belly curry that was very gamey. All of it was cold as well as the textures and flavors were off. The ladies were nice. That's about all I can say.

The suman sa lihiya (glutinous rice cake) with rich, creamy coconut caramel sauce was soooo good in here. It's great for snacks or dessert (you can also have it for breakfast!) and is seriously addicting. If you're not a fan of the coconut sauce, you can add sliced fruit to the suman. Ripe mangoes make a great pair. Anyways, Jayli is a small place with like 2-3 tables to seat on. But due to the pandemic, they only do pick up and takeouts. They only have 8 ready to eat foods to choose from. Never tried any, but I bet it must be good. People here are nice and accommodating, also affordable prices. They also sell Siopao, leche flan, banana bread, etc.

    A must get.

Small restaurant but you'll be surprised how busy it is with "to go's". Well, the food is delicious like the specialty dishes prepared by grandma at home. My Filipina wife said, "it's like lutong bahay". Moreover, my wife added, "laging bagong luto". One more thing which my wife really loves is the price. It's reasonable, "mura", according to my wife. Well, what else do you want. You really must try Jayli restaurant.

Hidden small Filipino restaurant in Old Richmond. They are across Garcia Middle School and beside a Montessori. Their menu are mostly cook to order and for to-go but if you decide to eat there, they have 4 tables to seat on. They only have 4 ready to eat "ulams" to choose from though. Hubby loved their Kaldereta and I like their leche flan and Crispy Pata!

    Siopao asado

Their siopao is not good. My kid couldn't even eat it, doesn't like the texture of the dough and the meat inside is bad, just one bite and my kid couldn't continue eating it. Either it's old siopao or their siopao is not good. Don't recommend it. Don't buy it even half price, just a waste of your money.

Their fresh lumpia is the best!!! Call ahead for items for faster service. Not a sit down place but a great take out place.

The menu has definitely grown since its earlier years, and the prices have also increased quite a bit, but it's still some delicious food, very filling, with that homemade vibe. The chicken bites are a fan favorite here. The chicken is so flavorful and soft with that nice bit of crunch. Yummy! This plate hits the spot! The fried pork chop and fried fish are also delightfully tasty, though the pork chop can be overcooked and tough at times. You get the choice of rice or soup with a lot of the options. I prefer the rice. It comes with egg and a vegetable, plus an additional side. The soup comes with soft overcooked noodles, bok choy, and a very light delicate broth. They offer boba tea and shaved ice as well, if a refreshing sweet treat is preferred. This is an order at the counter type of place! Definitely stop by a quick home style meal.

The neighborhood was scratchy even in day time. My wife was so scared she wouldn't allow me to go inside. Instead she wanted me to back the car in and leave the car running for a quick get away if needed. The front door was kept locked at all time and the doorbell was broken. My wife had to call the owner to let her in. We went mainly to buy suman, a sweet rice desert for my mother in law, my Mom, and my youngest daughter. We also picked up fried sweet plantains and Filipino beef stew to try. Everyone declared the suman was the best in the greater Houston area and the beef stew was ok only. We were not impressed with sweet plantain, not sweet enough. The price of the sweet rice was the cheapest around town. The price of the beef stew was a little high, but acceptable. We will return to try other sweet deserts.
