I've been coming here for a long time. It was one of the few authentic Taiwanese eateries in Sugar Land for awhile, and it was popular because the price was right, and the food was pretty good. The menu has definitely grown since its earlier years, and the prices have also increased quite a bit, but it's still some delicious food, very filling, with that homemade vibe. The chicken bites are a fan favorite here. The chicken is so flavorful and soft with that nice bit of crunch. Yummy! This plate hits the spot! The fried pork chop and fried fish are also delightfully tasty, though the pork chop can be overcooked and tough at times. You get the choice of rice or soup with a lot of the options. I prefer the rice. It comes with egg and a vegetable, plus an additional side. The soup comes with soft overcooked noodles, bok choy, and a very light delicate broth. They offer boba tea and shaved ice as well, if a refreshing sweet treat is preferred. This is an order at the counter type of place! Definitely stop by a quick home style meal. read more

Small but cozy place! The restaurant is family run and they still serve generous portions for a decent price. It's self serve so you order at the counter. My favorite is their fried chicken bites! The soft texture of the tofu and crunchy texture of the broccoli are a good complement to the chicken. The only complaint is that the chicken and gravy on the tofu are too salty. This place has awesome Taiwanese dessert like shaved ice, sweet tofu soup and assorted teas. They also let you pick various toppings like jelly (aiyu, grass, almond etc.), red beans or fruit. I got a sweet tofu soup, a shaved ice and a ginger tea (hot) which was excellent. Also a lemon iced tea. Service was also very prompt - although I wished they brought the food out to you as opposed to you having to go up to the counter to get it (I think one dish was brought to me however). The interior is small but spacious enough to be comfortable - you can also watch whatever it is they are playing on the TV (at the time that movie about young Gru and the Minions). I am so happy that Coco's Cafe 可可餐飮 in Sugarland - the one-and-only Taiwanese restaurant still here after CoVid restaurant lockdown of 2020 and chaotic year of restrictions in 2021. My sister requested a special trip because she remembered the tastes when she visited 6 years ago. That was when I hosted Taste of Taiwan UYE and discovered Coco's Cafe has what we crave for. They removed stinky tofu from the menu due to a complaint from a group of customers walked out years ago. We chatted with the owner Mr. Wang. He said they stayed open during CoVid, simply because they didn't have anything else to do. That's a lot of restaurant owners said. It's either stay at home do nothing or come to work because of their passion in feeding hungry customers. They had trouble finding employees, just like any restaurants out there. So, your patience is required. From where I can tell, Mr. Wang will continue serving delicious Taiwanese food until the lease ends. You better hurry up before it's too late. read more

The egg/tofu appetizers plus their chili/soy sauce sauce is always a favorite of mine!! So simple but the flavors mix well together and the sauce isn't overly spicy and is pretty sweet. Pork Chop Rice is one of my favorites in houston. It did go up in price but is still under $10 pretax. The breading is pretty light and the pork chop is juicy. The side dishes are just ok compared to some of the other Taiwanese restaurants in houston but overall it's decent value for the amount of food you get. read more

Food is always great and hot. Drinks are a bit overly sweet though. Wish they would offer more Taiwanese dishes similar to China Gourmet. Downside I would say is the hours have been cut back and it just so happens every time I'd like to order from here, they are closed. Interior is decent, not modern or the cleanest but not dirty like you'd see a roach crawling around or anything. One of our worst experiences in Houston right down from the way that we were greeted with the most hostile, what the f are you doing in my place, kind of attitude, right down to the horrendous dumplings that tasted like they had been sitting in the warm sun for about 2 months and made me sick and I only had one. First time coming here upon a friend's recommendation. It's a no frill restaurant. Just mostly traditional taiwanese home cooking. I tried the pork katsu with rice and popcorn chicken. The lightly breaded pork katsu was perfectly seasoned. I appreciate that it came with 2 veggie side dishes. The popcorn chicken was good but I wish it had more basil. We've only ordered from here via UberEats thanks to the pandemic. The food carries out very well, one time our order was delayed by half an hour and it was still tasty when it arrived! My favorite items are the popcorn chicken rice and the pork chop rice. Keeps surprisingly well despite being fried, and it's not too oily or salty. I also like their ground pork rice, which is the base that they use for their other combo rice dishes. Their fried rice and noodles are pretty good, my husband usually likes to get those. I've been eating at Coco's cafe since I was a kid and have never been disappointed by the food here. The family that owns the store is awesome and the food fulfills any Taiwanese food cravings. I always get the popcorn chicken with rice plate or the fried pork chop with rice plate. The portion sizes are large and I am always stuffed after coming here. The dumplings here are also pretty good and definitely will fill you up. My parents also used to bring us here during the summer for shaved ice. If the hot weather is getting to be too much, I recommend stopping by for shaved ice. They have all the traditional Taiwanese shaved ice toppings to choose from. read more

You want some Taiwanese food? Coco's to the rescue! My Taiwanese friend and his family have been patronizing Coco's for years. I never got in on the action because I'm not really a fan of Taiwanese food and the vegetarian/vegan options are sparse here. I've gotten the shaved ice a couple of times - it's reasonably priced, but it's nowhere as delicious as some of the places in actual Chinatown. I usually get the red beans, peanuts, taro, and occasionally mix it up. The sugary syrup is critical and condensed milk if you're down with milk. It's so so . . . maybe "good," but I am holding out on that designation. I've had the fried tofu here - it's softer tofu coated with a thin cornstarchy layer and deep fried - not the best of you, but pretty all right with the thick soy sauce dip, but certainly nowhere near the best. My friend and his family enjoy the box lunches quite frequently, so I assume they're pretty darn tasty. However, I don't know if I'd be so keen on the few vegetarian options because as aforementioned, the distinctive stench of this place is intense. Nothing like being slapped in the face with that Taiwanese food smell as my friend and his wife have remarked. The cashiers and food preparers here aren't the most welcoming and warm, but Coco's isn't exactly the type of place you'd want to spend extended hours at - due to the oh-so-special smell. Coco's Café has been around for a long time. It is in a small space next to the Welfresh Asian supermarket at Highway 6 and Dulles. It is a restaurant that serves authentic Chinese cuisines from appetizers, snacks, noodle dishes, dumplings, and rice dishes. They also have a shaved ice section as well as serving boba tea. These days where boba tea is becoming more common, I do not see that many people order them from Coco's than in the past, those that do are probably getting them as a compliment to their meal. the Shaved ice section seemed to be getting even less attention. Like another reviewer have pointed out, there are no physical menus to hold and look at, but rather, the food items are all listed on the walls. You order your food at the counter, and find a place to sit and wait for your food to arrive. Typical wait time is acceptable for the food to arrive. The most often ordered snack type item is probably the Crispy Chicken Bites (with basil), it is seasoned breaded chicken pieces in bite sizes (may remind one of popcorn chicken), but it's seasoned very differently and is something that we used to order more (trying to cut back on fried foods). Other staples of the restaurant are their chicken/pork/fish cutlet rice/noodle dishes, which are generally well received because they are again breaded and fried. The complimentary veggies and the half marinated egg are generally well selected that compliments the meal well. One cannot go wrong with Beef Noodle Soup either. The marinated beef in a savory broth complimented by pickled vegetable is a welcome meal, not just on a cool day, but any given one. The restaurant also offers weekly dinner package menus where guests can call ahead of time to order their dinner dishes (menus would alter), for those working late and would just pick up the already made meals than having to go home and cook. The restaurant have been here this long and most of its patrons are returning customers. As more and more restaurants move into town, they too have to make adaptations so that they can survive, which they did by adding new menu items, getting rid of some unpopular items, and keeping the popular staples. This is my go to spot. I absolutely love coco cafe ! It's small but it's a hidden gem for me. They have an amazing selection and the food is absolutely delicious. Including their smoothies as well, if something is not on the menu to your liking they can mix it up for you, they are really awesome! Bad drinks and bad service. The taro and thai milk teas were gross and tasted watery rather than creamy, the boba at the bottom were flavorless and disgusting. I asked for the taro milk tea to come hot since all the bubble tea places I've been to thus far can make them hot or cold, and the guy behind the counter flatly said no. The shaved ice bowl was constructed poorly with all the toppings piled into the bottom of a tiny bowl and like 4 cups of shaved ice comically heaped over the top...you had to eat all the way to the bottom of the bowl to get any toppings so we ended up scooping the ice out into another bowl so we could get toppings. There were 2 high school students behind the counter who were confused, disorganized, and over-worked so I felt pretty bad for them, but they also weren't exactly friendly or polite. The place itself is rather dingy and unkempt, I'd normally let these things slide if this joint was in Chinatown where sanitary standards and good service take a backseat to killer, cheap food...but this is Sugar Land, the perfect suburban bubble where I'd expect things to be clean (granted this is a small Chinatown square in Sugar Land...but still). read more

I really wanted some good crispy chicken with basil and happed to read some of the reviews of this joint. I was sold. I ordered the crispy chicken plate and an of bok choy with minced meat. The price was extremely reasonable for the amount of food. So there weren't many pieces of chicken and it tasted okay. The rice came with a side of chicken and veggie sauce, and cup of minced meat to with rice. It was different but was actually pretty good, and a lot for complimentary sides. It's a typical Asian cafe serving pearl milk tea and Asian snacks/desserts. I like that it's in a plaza with Jade Garden (great Chinese restaurant) and The Old Place (pretty good Taiwanese restaurant) so that I can just stop by after dinner. I'm also glad that I can come here instead of driving all the way to the Bellaire/Chinatown area. I've only ever ordered one type of drink from there, but I'm so impressed by the quality of it that I'm giving this place 4 stars. This is the only pearl milk tea place I've gone to where they use actual taro pieces to make their taro freeze and taro milk tea. (Other places use that powder stuff.) The lists of names like US Postal services, City Water, Cable TV, all calling cards to lowering the expectations, and walking in to Coco's you instantly realize this belong on that list. Located in Sugarland, but the interior worse than the occasional dinning sections in rural gas stations. The wall, the furniture, the TV and menu's all look like they out date the Ming Dynasty. My heart sank as I study the menu(In English and Chinese with faded pictures on the wall). Lets say presentation was a class these guys skipped and I'm not about to brave the restrooms. Food: Rice with porkchop(N2?)- Coco's did it! they finally found a source for pork that is half fat and half meat. Thank god for the free ice tea, or I would have thrown up on a few of the bites. The other sides(Rice, soy sauced egg, Steamed Brocoli, corn carrots ham) are decent. Me thinks half of the marble chop was supposed to be delivered to the botox clinic instead? This is like playing mine sweeper, except the wrong bite would induce vomit.
