I'm 70 years old and this might be the best shop I have ever encountered. Always very professional service and they will NEVER try and hook you for unneeded repairs. I've been in El Paso for three years now, and I will NOT take my 2001 Chevy Silverado or my 2010 Chevy HHR ANYWHERE else (other than just an oil change). My latest experience was on 5/1/25. I tried to replace the power window motor on my Silverado by myself. Big mistake. Once I got the door apart I realized that it was a MUCH more complex job than I expected. I talked to Rick on the phone and he said, "we'll use your part and complete it for you." They did, and I was shocked when I got the bill: $95!! Don't let Alameda streets bad mechanical reputation deter you from this place. They had amazing service. I just had my car worked on here they were incredibly friendly and patient. They worked fast and for the most part their prices were extremely fair. So far I've been extremely happy with their work. They started with inspecting the car and there after inspection report was the fanciest I've seen I was able to check it with my phone and it was listed from what was in good condition, maintenance that is coming up, and things that needed attention ASAP. While I was waiting for my car, a family came in to get realignment work done. Jays was honest about the shop's equipment being unable to accommodate their vehicle but was very helpful in helping them find a shop that would be able to help that family. Before I begin, we would all agree that a mechanic shop with five stars oughta be excellent right? I think a lot of raters with minimal experience put five stars if staff was nice to them. Rick is a very pleasant customer service rep, but that doesn't rate 5 stars. I think 400 for an oil change and 2 radiator hose replacements is excessive. Also, it was clear you didn't assess my vehicle the first day, i dropped it off at 9am. When I called back at 230pm I was told you just started checking it. When I called back at 530pm I was told the same. My guess is when I said the first morning that I could leave it over night if need be, it was put on the back burner until the next day. Diagnosing a radiator hose leak doesn't take even an hour and definitely should have been done within the first day. Also, I originally was going to do a lot of things (breaks, tune up etc) along with my essential services (radiator hoses and oil change). But with the fact that at nearing 1000 dollars worth of a quote you cant find much in the way of incentives or discounts is disheartening. For example, if I am considering paying you close to 1 grand and part of this quote includes a tire rotation and brake pad replacement for both front and rear brake pads...(the brake pad replacement price is ridiculous in my opinion) then why not throw in the tire rotation (25$) for free. It is literally no extra work because your taking the tires off anyways to change the brake pads. There were multiple examples of this in my quote. I know yall have to make money but charging maintenance fees for each service instead of taking a more common sense approach with it to avoid "nickeling and diming" is not right. If you are replacing/fixing two things next to each other and easy to do simultaneously then why charge full maintenance prices for both services. That is nickel and dime practice, and just because most places do it doesn't make it right. I do not think y'all are crooks but by no means are y'all an example either, based off of my experience. The same as the vast majority of mechanics with common but unfair practices. Ill continue my search for a mechanic shop I can build a relationship with and trust here in beautiful El Paso. They exist. I have found them in other cities I have lived in. I am surprised at all of the 5 star reviews. Which is why I came in the first place. Again I feel this place is not terrible, but is very average. 3 stars at the very most, I am rating you two because I believe you didn't even assess my vehicle until the next day. I wish your company and staff nothing but the best, please don't be defensive if you read my post, simply reflect and apply changes where appropriate. Be a 5 star company. read more

Have used this shop on three occasions now and all have been nothing short of excellent! On our most recent visit, we had our vehicle serviced up prior to my daughter leaving with it to Albuquerque. We'd mainly went in for a tune up and a look over. The mechanic check it so thoroughly and luckily discovered a damaged suspension part we didn't even know we had. They fixed it for such a reasonable price and got it handled while we ran some other errands for a few hours. The car has never felt this good and she had a safe weekend trip with her friend! We have had issues with our brakes for awhile. We brought it in and got it worked on, but the squeak slowly continued and got louder. I contacted them and Rick was so polite and asked if I could bring it in the next day. They did not charge me to re-check the brakes and clean them up. I'd been having problems with my car starting. I thought maybe it had something to do with them gorillas in the trunk, for you non Bay Area folks, I mean the slaps.. Subs and the amp that beat down the block. But that wasn't it. Alternator fine, battery BRAND NEW, and theoretically (based off my most recent trip to a "big name" service center) my starter was fine too. I was told they weren't sure what the issue was. That's most unfortunate, because my car would still start only when it wanted too... Which was never when I needed it too. A Captain I work with recommended I try Jays Automotive after he overheard me getting super frustrated on the phone with another business. He claimed he and one of his peers had both used Jays and that it was worth a shot. So I called... A man named Rick answered and listened to my concerns and suggested I bring the car in. I dropped it off about 1130 on a Tuesday. I understood diagnostics would have to be ran (which was surprisingly cheap at $75. The major competitors chthonic around $99.) and was pleased to know that IF they discovered the problem and I agreed to let the repair it, the $75 would be waived. Well, turns out the problem was a starter after all. Not surprised. I bought the car brand new 10 yrs ago and still own it. But mad either, 10 years on 1 starter ain't bad at all. Looked it up on Google, and the National Average for starter and labor is around $580. So I knew it would be kinda expensive. I was impressed to learn of their attention to detail. They noticed my Firestone sticker that suggests my next oil change, and that I was a few 1,000 miles overdue lol. They also noticed the giant bulge in my upper radiator hose that would soon pop, my transmission fluid had never been serviced, and my power steering fluid was looking a bit old and kinda gritty/grimey. Not being able to argue with the facts, and since it was already in their shop, I agreed to have all of the above mentioned items serviced. Here's my problem: this could take awhile (based off other experiences with bigger name service centers). I might be without a car for work for a few days. Even Rick said it will probably be a day or two. WRONG! Starter replaced. Oil and filter changed. Upper radiator hose replaced. Transmission fluid serviced. Power Steering Fluid Serviced. Remember; dropped it off at 1130. Got the call at 1615 saying "Mr Spurgeon, your cars ready and can be picked up now"! Whoop! That's what's up! 3 hours and I'm back in business. Total cost: $781. Which I found totally fair dude to the fact that $580 is the national average for starter, meaning all the other services they provided was around $200. Seem steep? Well, I am comfortable with that due to the fact I had my car back in 3 hours as opposed to 3 days. Didn't miss a beat at work or anything. Now they do close at 1800... But Rick understood I was far away and stayed later just to make sure I can pick up my car. On top of that, gave me a free voucher for an oil change. Obviously I'm going to use it. This was truly a wonderful experience and I'm very happy to have found such a great car care center. I honestly hope nothing ever breaks again on my car... But knowing that it's inevitable ... So I found this place through yelp (of course!) and I'm glad I trusted my fellow yelpers. In always sketchy with trying new auto shops, cause I always feel like I'm either getting a general story or not the full help I need for my car. So I brought my car in cause it didn't want to start a few nights ago and I saw the engine, battery, and oil light on. This was odd cause I have a brand new battery, But that check engine light scared me. Anyways, Rick answered my call and although it was a weekend and they closed at 3p.m. he said he could take me in. When I got there he explained the cost of a diagnostics which is $75, cheapest I've heard actually. Now, when I dropped my car I had no ride back so he actually offered to drop me back home and pick me up when it's done. But it was fine with me since I had some homework to do, I stayed. I noticed he offered this to all his customers. How kind! They have coffee and water availavle, which was great cause I left my coffee at home. Bad habit. After the diagnostics, they found out my battery terminals were bad, my power steering fluid needed to be flushed, and oil needed changed. Not sure when my husband changed the oil, but made sense. And I noticed it was hard to steer and the terminals also made sense which was probably why my car didn't want to start. Now when I start my car, I hear and feel a great deal of a difference. Rick explained in detail why and how the problems occurred, which was great. He didn't give me a short answer and then charged me for it. He actually took the time to help me understand. I'm not a mechanic nor a car person, but I'm confident that my car is better and I can see that. I do recommend this place to anyone. Ok so I looked this shop up since I saw nothing but good reviews. I call and talk to Rick and he invites me to the shop to inspect my brakes (free of course). I get there and was a little skeptical because the shop is small. He inspects and then tells me that my brakes still have about 80% of life left no need to change. Then he gives me a free oil change certificate. WOW! They are very friendly, despite the small shop it is very organized and neat. They offer coffee for you while you wait. Being military, I've been to mechanics around the country, and by far this was one of the most honest and professional shops I've encountered. I have a older Lexus SUV and wanted them to do a tuneup, fix my brakes, and a complete maintenance overhaul. Part of that was changing the plugs and wires. They checked everything and said my current plugs were fine and didn't need changed. Most would have changed them...or would say they changed them. My brakes had a soft pedal with some vibration and now they feel like a new car. Overall I had a great experience, and my car runs great. I initially took my car to Jay's because I was having a power steering problems with my car. After diagnosing it and doing some research on the issue they realized that GM extended the warranty on this particular problem. So instead of just saying what was wrong and how much they would fix it for, they told me to take it to the dealer to get it fixed for free. I did leave my car with them so they could fix other maintenance items on my car though. Quick and efficient place, I got my AC diagnosed and fixed in the same day. When I called in the guy at the front desk was very helpful and had something for me the very next day. They do an overall check that they actually punch in online and email it to you which I appreciate because the papers always wind up getting crumpled and stepped on later anyways. The online review goes over everything and if they find deficiencies. They even take pictures so it is very helpful. When they called to explain the issue before fixing it, he broke it down for me no problem and that itself made me feel comfortable with the service-especially since I didn't really know what was wrong to begin with. My girlfriend and I were heading cross country in a Ford Econoline when our coolant started leaking like crazy. We found Jay's on Yelp from the road and beelined it to their location. One of our hoses was tore up, so they needed to keep overnight since the shop was closing when we arrived. But Rick found us an affordable hotel to stay for the night, even drove us to the hotel and gave us a coupon for the hotel! The second day out on our return trip through Texas to Colorado, we experienced a glitch in the starter of our motor home. We had just left Balmorhea State Park and filled up with gas when the issue occurred. Luckily we got it started and drove down I 10 while searching Yelp for an auto repair shop. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we recieved, as well as the immediate attention to help us out in our situation. BEWARE DO NOT GO HERE!!! SLICK RICK!!! I dropped my car off on Thursday morning, Rick took it in and then came back about two hours later and told me it was a A/C blower motor and a resistor that needed to be replaced, at this point I agreed to the job to be fixed at a total cost of 472.00, with parts costing 206, and labor cost 238.00, and taxes made up the rest. I called the shop on Thursday afternoon to see what was the status of the job so far, and the parts had just gotten to the shop at 4 pm, so OK, Rick told me that my car should be ready by Friday mid morning, OK no problem. I called Friday at 12 and turns out the resistor is not working and they had to get another one, and that it had to be overnight ed, now at this point I started to ask about courtesy rental since i have things to do and no car to do it, Rick tells me that he couldn't help us, he doesn't have one, and it clearly states that rentals are available on the pamphlet in the office. At this point Rick also tells me that my car would be ready Saturday before 3 pm at the time they close on Saturday. I am now starting to get kind of angry that such an easy A/C repair job inst getting fixed. I call on Saturday at 2 pm to find out what is going on, and now Rick tells me that my car is blowing hot air, but no cold air, and he will call me back in ten minutes, ten minutes later Rick called and he tells me that my compressor clutch inst engaging and that my compressor has to be fixed at a additional cost of 820.00 so now total of 1292.00. At this point I am so fed up, I tell Rick to put it back together the way it was when i dropped it off on Thursday. I show up at the shop at 330 pm on Saturday and get my keys and then look around under my car, and there is no way any work was ever done, as there is still dust and dirt where they should have been taking parts on and off the car, so in my honest opinion they never once looked at my car and were just jacking up the prices, absolutely ridiculous here. I also looked up the parts on the internet, the blower motor is average price of 70 dollars, the resistor is average price of 45 dollars and the compressor is average price of 140.00, this would be a total 255.00 for parts so i would think labor would be like 300 at most, so a total of 550 dollars by my estimation. This would be 742.00 less than there cost, so you be the judge I think they were just jacking up the prices, I completely blame Rick for this not the techs as I don't think they even looked at my car, I will posting this review all over the internet on every website I can, Thanks but no thanks, "Slick" Rick. read more
