So, I went to this beauty salon and thought I was going to be taken well care of. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Then, the lady (whose name I can't remember) tells me the prices...hmm kay, $130 is what I was quoted. She told me my hair was thick and dry and saying I need this and that so this would be my price. Any good stylist would ask you what all you wanted done before diving straight into the cost. Then, she tells me to go to the sink for washing and looks at my hair and feels around asking me what I put on it. I tell her just water and olive oil. She makes some sounds as if she disapproves of my morning go to regimen ‍ Not everyone has the same hair type or does the same hair treatments. So, she begins washing my hair and talking in her native tongue and at this point, I am starting to feel talked about. She talks to me and says things like "how do you normally wear your hair," "what you put on it," "you just wet it and go all day like this," and my personal favorite "when was the last time you washed it?" My hair is natural and coils with no effort at all. It is not hair salon tamed as she mentioned to me repeatedly. My hair tangles without trying and she takes the time to examine my hair but all I felt was my hair being pulled from my scalp and rough hands from this monster who is asking me if I am tender headed. I told her that I have medium tolerance concern combing my hair. Anyone would be in pain when you are constantly pulling at the strands of their hair that is attached to a human scalp ‍. All the while she was talking and talking and talking in her native tongue and she was getting some responses and I knew (we know) she was talking about the mess of hair that was placed in her lap. After pulling out sensitive strands of hair and the lady telling the other stylist that she is combing my hair the wrong way and repeatedly telling me that it's badly tangled but my hair is pretty, the pain feast was momentarily over. The other stylist quits, everyone's eyes are in me cause there was a point I screamed out "I need a break"...the pain was real folks...she put a cream on my head that began to burn, as if it was a perm...and it very well may have been..don't know ‍ But the burning didn't let up till I told her for the fourth time, my scalp is burning. She then begins to wash the cream out of my head. After sitting under a dryer, I am taken to another chair to endure round two of more hair pulling because I love it so. Once again, someone comes to help and my head is being pulled in different directions and all along their native tongue is just a going. She is talking about this mess of my hair. I'm surprised I even have two strands of my hair left. She mentions that she will need to charge me more because she didn't realize I had so much hair and my length is long. I get taken to get my hair set under the dryer and the rollers are huge for my hair. My hair with rollers is too large for their standard hair dryer and my head is being sausaged in. It was very uncomfortable and my neck was paying the price. I was forced to stay under the dryer for far too long. I even had to ask to be released from baking in the head oven and at one (about 45 minutes later) I exited out the easy bake oven on my own. The women that was doing my hair needed a lunch break and decided that she will eat while my brain fried in the oven. When she saw that I was complaining about yet another thing, she rolled her eyes in disgust. I felt the same way about her too. I was finally able to get the rollers out my head, and go to the styling chair. That experience wasn't much better. The lady that was combing my hair the wrong way, was now my stylist (oh joy). She continued pulling my hair, blow drying over strands of hair repeatedly, and straighten it with a flat iron. She kept going over and over and over strands of hair that have already been fried. I was charged $170 dollars plus $10 for a wrap cap and told I would get a $2 dollar discount for my graduation tomorrow (I didn't get the $2 discount and who would discount $2 as a gift when I just paid you all almost $200 dollars ‍). She was not trying to do me any favors (that's obvious). She even talked to me about being pretty but mentioning how fat I was. Thanks lady. All the while she's telling me she doesn't want to be fat. I use to frequent this salon a few years ago and was reminded why I stop coming here. The wait time is horrible. My appointment was at 9:30 and I arrived about 9:15. At 10:45 I decided to just leave because I still had not been serviced and I had dinner plans later so couldn't risk being late. If you have a full day to spend in the salon then you'll be fine. I called the salon and asked for more info on getting hair extensions on and loved the ladies approach with me. The ladies were very informative and immediately told me where to get the best hair. I stopped by real quick on my way back from work to consult how much hair I really needed. They quickly worked me into the schedule the very next week. I am extremely pleased with my hair. its been 3 weeks thats its been on and I have had absolutely no problems with it. I have an afro. When I don't want that to be the case anymore, I come here. If you have some time to spare, it's definitely worth the wait. The only days you really need to book appointments are Tuesdays(Discount Day) and Saturdays(early closing). Any other time I just walk in looking like dry scalp and despair, before leaving with hair laid like moisture and happiness. If you come when they first open, they like to start the day off with prayer, if you're in the shop, be prepared to hold hands. I think it's cool. Random fact, all of the stylists are sisters. My stylist (read: savior) is Juana. She does my highlights, trims my ends, and shares a genuine concern about life; she's rather enjoyable to talk to. They generally charge by the length of your hair. They have incentives including but not limited to every ten visits means you get a free deep conditioning, refer a certain amount of people you get something free, and well Tuesdays are discount days on styling and products. I've seen people get extensions, but I can't really elaborate on that as I simply go in for a blowout. Mine generally lasts a little over a month...you can use dry shampoo to keep it up. I don't really have to put anything in it beyond moroccan oil. You also have the option to leave with your style pre-pin curled, wrapped, bunned, or straight. Definitely try it out. read more

I've been coming to this salon for a few years now all the way from Spring. My cousin recommended me and had been going for a while and I loved how healthy her hair was. When I started coming, I cut my hair really short and stopped perming my hair & decided to start over and wanted my hair to grow out healthy which it has. This is a Dominican salon so they do Dominican blowouts for the most part. But keep in mind that they also do perms & hair color. There is definitely always a wait for the most part (like most salons) but it's worth it. Go in the morning or during the week. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I came in during the week at 450 and left around 7 - only 2 hours. There are times I've been here 4+ hours. But they've added dryers, more people washing hair etc. and have therefore become more efficient. My hair gets really straight. I haven't permed my hair for about 5 years. They encourage you to go natural. I've always had Juana or Mary do my hair. Even when I moved to Dallas, I would still come here when I came I'm town. At one point, I stopped coming for about a year and only did flat irons. You can now tell a difference in my hair as it isn't as healthy but I've been coming back now for a couple months and it's already growing back out. As people have mentioned, this is owned by a family of Dominican sisters and a few of the stylists are just their friends. Their children are often in the salon. They are big on church and religion. I believe that JC stands for Jesus Christ. They do talk in Spanish sometimes which may be intimidating or an issue for some. They also have a lot of people that have been coming for a while and come pretty often or are friends of the family so yes, I can understand how people would feel like they have their "favorites". Regarding pricing, they charge based on the length, thickness, if your hair is natural or not, etc. The average price is $45 plus $5 for regular conditioner or $10 for deep conditioner. read more

This is Josie's beauty salon. The Dominican stylist that blow dries my hair for special occasions. I normally do my own hair and it comes out great, But when I want my hair to look fabulous (like for a wedding, special dinner, work function etc) I go to Josie. She's great and definitely will treat your curly hair with true care. I definitely recommend her. I stop going from time to time to let my hair rest from the heat, but if I ever need super straight yet bouncy hair she is who I would go to! I found this place by googling and reading reviews. I just relocated to Houston from NY so I have to find my go-to spots to replace the ones I left in NY :(. True to the reviews, these ladies are great with hair - I love what they did to my hair - they definitely did not disappoint in that regard, however a few points of concern: 1) I made an appointment for 8 am and when I arrived there, I had no idea where to go, or who to ask for since there was no one at the front desk. I eventually asked a patron who was seated in the waiting area and she also had no real idea what I should do so I went into the salon area to find someone. 2) As I had mentioned before, my appointment was for 8 am but I had to wait until 8:45 - 9 am before being serviced. I was getting a perm and the thickness of my hair surprised the hairdressers so they spoke about it in their native tongue (spanish) which didn't really bother me. It is what it is. 3) I am accustomed to having one or two hairdressers doing my hair per visit, usually one would do the wash while the other would do the blow-dry and style - I had three hairdressers - one who did the perm, one who did the wash, and one who did the blow-dry and style. It was very strange because the third hairdresser asked me if I wanted her to do my blow-dry - I didn't know i had an option, but said "yes" since I was beginning to get antsy and wanted to leave. 4) Usually I am placed under the hair dryer for 30 - 45 minutes, here they placed me under for what felt like over an hour. I came out from under the dryer before it even turned off bc I was tired of sweating under the heat. 5) The blow-dry and style was a very lengthy process, which probably took about 45 minutes, I am used to this part being the shortest section of the hair dressing visit - usually in 10 minutes your hair is blown out and styled and you are good to go. After about half an hour, I asked how much longer I would have to wait, and she said 15 minutes. 6) I had made plans for noon, since I had an 8 am appointment, and when I came out from under the dryer it was 11:30 am. I pushed it back to 12:30 and then again to 1 pm since that was when I eventually left. Now aside from these concerns, I was happy with the care that was taken with my hair, but I wonder if I can get the best of both worlds from this salon - the care and efficiency. The hairdressers are all wonderful, and knowledgeable. I drove 30 minutes to get to this salon, and 30 minutes to get back. I would love to make this my permanent salon, but the huge chunks of time that it takes to get my hair done is a concern. Perhaps I will try a day during the week and see how it goes. Warning!!!!!!!!!! This place is a huge rip off. They let their shampoo girls give you a deep conditioning without letting you know it's a extra $15 tax at the end of the visit. I've visited several times and always the older lady tried to fast talk me into taking almost $100 per visit just for a simple wash and press. They have a price list but it's so confusing so you never know how much your gonna pay it depends on how much money they need to pay all the bills I'm guessing. I love this place because they do amazing hair and they have a Christian foundation. However, scheduling and prices are not so great. I don't think they should schedule blowouts at the same time as extensions. This shows that they don't respect people's time. What's the point of making an appointment if you're going to wait 5 hours, in which 3 of those hours are wasted looking at someone getting serviced?! It's been awhile since I've been here but I wasn't expecting an experience like this. I had an extremely rough wash process followed by an intense blow dry session in which I was burned on my forehead, without an apology. I'm unsure what I paid for, because the lady didn't inform me but she kept trying to add an additional service that I didn't receive. Just because I was there for hours does not mean I received additional services. My "simple" blowout on natural hair without a deep condition was close to $100! read more

My very first Dominican blowout. I am so elated! Josie hooked it up!!!!! She and her sisters did a phenomenal job on my hair. I decided to go natural for good in the beginning of 2016. I was so lost after 7 months of putting it in a French role on the back of my head to disguise the drama it was going through. Turns out pinning it up was breaking my hair off in the back and crown. I DID NOT want to do the big chop, so my hair was half natural and half perm. I nearly cried every time I tried to do something to my hair. I saw a coworkers hair and she told me there are no chemicals involved...aka "no perm" and put me up on Josie at JC's. I owe her lunch, lol! I had an appointment at 2:00pm and my hair as being washed at 2pm. They did an amazing job with my damaged hair. This is definitely my new go to salon for my natural hair. This is an update on a previous review. While I love the work JC Salon does. The customer service is not the best. What's the point in making an appointment if I have to sit and wait for an hour?! I'm highly disappointed. I'm out of town on business and made an 8:15am appointment the day before departing Houston. I still had to go into my office that day so I figured with my usual wait (20 mins) I would make it to the office no later than 11:30/Noon. I got to the salon at 8 am. There were at least 4 ladies in chairs and two others waiting with me. I sat there until 9:15 am and still was not in a chair. I walked up to Josie and told her I couldn't wait any longer. I explained to her that I don't mind waiting 15-20mins but an hour is just ridiculous! Why make appointments? She apologized but really didn't have much to add to her apology. I left and went to another Dominican Beauty Salon not far from them. 5mins I was in a chair and I was out by, get this, 11:30! Sorry this happened because they do good work at JC's but I'm the type of person that service trumps all else. My advice is that if you have the day to waste away, JC's. It'll be worth the all day wait. Oh, and here's the other sticker. Last time I was charged $40 for my hair. The time after was $50. When I asked about the difference she said it was because I came on a certain day of the week. I know what you're asking. Why go back if that was the case. Helen works miracles with daughter Aliyah's hair. Aliyah has very course her naturally. However, with nothing more shampoo, conditioner and experience. My daughter becomes silky, healthy and has great body. It looks like her hair has been relaxed, but it hasn't. I really do not need to have her hair done anymore than twice a month. Hi I have been natural for 4 & a 1/2 years & my hAIr is extremely thick! I had a deep condition, a trim, & a blowout done. It was expensive my total was 85.00. However as of now which is only day 3,I believe it was well worth it!! I had my hair done by Juana she was very friendly(all of the employees I encountered with while I was there were). She got my edges super duper strait! I am highly satisfied!! THE BOMB!! 2 weeks later and my hair is still absolutely FAB (I have used a dry shampoo to absorb some excess oil build up but the blowout results are PHENOMENAL)... I was skeptical because I'm transitioning to natural but I don't want to sacrifice my smooth hair look. With a blowout from Josie at JC - I don't have to! I was in and out in about 2.5 hours after a shampoo, deep conditioner, roller set and blowout + styling. The people are wonderful. The stylists are so friendly and TRUE sweethearts. This salon is nowhere near the side of town I live however it is well worth the time and gas for such quality service and results. After struggling with finding a Dominican salon in the area, I decided to give this one a try. I'd given up and started wearing my afro everywhere...anyway, I walked in and the service was absolutely great! It was absolutely an authentic salon, they also have incentives for loyal customers. Tuesday is discount day but you should definitely call and make an appointment, they show preference to scheduled customers. Everyone is friendly and it seems to be quite the family environment. An appointment means nothing here. They have you sign in when you get there, but they never refer to it. They basically have you in there like cattle. It took 6 hours to get out of there! After 2 hours of being there, I asked the girl who spoke good English about the rotation of clients because ladies who came in after me were being serviced before me, she copped an attitude. Meri did a phenomenal job on my hair, edges were laid like i had a relaxer. When it was time to check out my bill ran up to $90! The same young lady who I spoke to rang me up, she erroneously added $15 for conditioner when I had brought my own. I told her i brought my own, I had my bag of shampoo and conditioner in my hands and she asked me to see what I brought. Unprofessional, but she's young and she will learn about customer service. My hair looked great, but it's not worth 6 hours of my time. This place has horrible customer service. The place is full of smoke you need to have mask for your own protection. The employees are very loud and unorganized. Either you have an appointment or not, get ready to spend more than five hours, REDICULOUS. I saw young lady leaving crying, after they washed her hair, they couldn't do what she wanted. And other two ladies left after being washed and have rollers...am telling you 45 minutes wait before your seen, then add 1 hour of wait after shampooing, then another 45 minutes to be put in a hair drier (despite having some driers with no one using them). Then add another 45 minutes for someone to remove the rollers. NEXT wait for another hour and a half to three hours to be styled...believe me you need your all day there...mind you all that time you are inhaling that SMOKE which I guarantee you is bad for your health. Don't even think of taking your little one because I guarantee you she will be diagnosed with asthma and/or other respiratory problem. BE WARNED WITH THIS PLACE. read more
