Came in for my babies 1st birthday pictures with a smash cake and let me tell you what normally feels overwhelming felt so smooth with Elise helping us out. Booked a session for my daughter's 15th birthday and the session went well. The photographer was very nice and detailed and took some very artistic shots. I purchased the digital album and it was available within 24 hours. We did get several calls to remind us of the photo appointment. It was also very easy to book online. The only reason I would not give 5 stars is because they asked me and my son be in a photo (which we were not prepared for or dressed appropriately for ) and then charged us a sitting fee. We looked terrible and would we have known about the extra charge, we would have declined. Transparency would have been much appreciated. read more

Do not come here. It was so expensive, for ugly pictures. First of all my photographer did not explain to me or tell me how many pictures or poses I could do. Second of all, she was not helping me in any way, I had to pose myself. She wouldn't help me fix my hair, fix my clothing she would just take the pictures. Worst experience by far! Please save your self some money and head ache. This place is absolutely not worth it. We came 15 minutes early and were assisted until 11:40 which we did not mind. The flash keeps on not working. I called the attention of the photographer Amanda and told her that she needs to give us extra time because that's a lot of times that the flash did not work and she said that's not her control. It was not our control either why do we have to pay for the malfunction. We waited more than 30 Minutes to be assisted with our pictures and another 30 minutes to be ring up. 2 hours wasted for nothing. Please just book with a decent studio. We were only given 15 shots and some of it our awkwardly taken and blurry. read more

Had a family session with my 4 month old. Celina did a great job with the session and was really helpful. Pictures came out good and awesome. The only thing I didn't like was the quality of the prints. When we received the prints in the mail, the shade and tone of the prints were way darker than the actual/digital copy. Also the studio is downstairs. You have to take the elevator and its right beside the optical department. read more

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had at a portrait studio. I'm a professional portrait photographer and never in my life would I have treated a customer like this. I'd like to be contacted by the studio manager. The way they didn't give me a single usable photo and attempted to charge me a session fee for absolutely nothing is absurd. I'm a reasonable person. I would have let them fix the pictures. My husband would have purchased 100 dollars worth of photographs if they were 1. Usable. 2. The man who attempted to ring me up, but didn't do my session didn't threaten me with a "lifetime banning" from their store. Update*** So I bought another Groupon deal for my baby's Christmas pictures. I went in and they didn't acknowledge me. I had to make myself be known even tho the person at the front desk saw me standing there. I had an appt. at 5:15 but got seen maybe an hr. later. There were so many people, but I understand because it's the holidays. Regardless of that, my baby's pictures came out amazing. And plus one of the employees gave me 4 free sheets for the long wait. All in all it was a good experience, not too bad. I bought a package on Groupon and after seeing the reviews I went to the studio with low expectations. I can't speak for any of the other employees although Amanda seemed nice and professional enough. It's true they were understaffed, so we had some waits but nothing worth complaining about. I don't have a whole lot of experience having pictures taken at photo studios, so the first time we used the Target photo studio for our son 2nd photo shoot it was great experience and I had looked forward to doing it again, sadly they closed and Jcpenny Portraits took over. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use them since I have heard not that many great things about them but we went ahead and set up a session for our son 3rd year photos and I have to say it was great experience for us. However that's also because our son is now used to having his photo ( many photos) taken and is a little charmer so Amber really had a great kid to work with. I don't think it's the responsibility of the photographer to make your kid smile, it's the parents and also I knew better to schedule him before his nap time, knowing he was fed and had his favorite toys with him. Of course all photos are not going to be picture perfect and the ones Amber took where both on point and not so on point but those also make for great pictures too... first I asked Amber if they are on a commission because I was going to feel real bad if she was. She wasn't which great because now you don't feel obligated to buy every single picture and I had a bunch of coupons with me , which they allowed me to use. What would have been about $ 260 in fees, I ended up paying less than $ 30 for a good amount of photos & canvas and have already ordered more online since we ran out of the ones we only thought we needed to get, plus using their online coupons as well has also saved me up to 40 % and more. If our little photo charmer is up to it, we'll be back for his 4th year photos, for me personally I think these photo sessions are great for children only. read more

I didn't wait more than 15 min past my appt time for my sitting, but the ONE woman working there was WAY too busy. She was taking the photos, selecting and editing the photos, explaining the ordering process to multiple customers at once. I would give this place 0 stars but that wasn't an option. I am writing this review as I sit here waiting to select my pictures. My appointment was at 12:15pm and it is currently 3:53pm and I am still waiting. The girl that was helping us during our session was by herself, answering three lines and taking care of walk-in customers all while helping us with our photo shoot. She left us in the middle of choosing our pictures to take pictures of a lady that didn't want to wait for her appointment time at 5pm. Once she was done with her, she came back to us and could not figure out how to do the cards that we had purchased so she had to keep calling for help. 2:30pm came and she said she had to close and that we had to come back at 3pm for someone else to help us because she had to leave. I am still waiting. I have a newborn and I had to feed her and change her in their changing room and I will probably have to do it again. That's how long I've been here!! (Going on four hours and still waiting)...God I hate this place!! Stay away!! read more

Don't waste your money. I even had a coupon and it still wasn't worth it. $150 for a digital package and all the photos that were taken, weren't there. So did the woman choose what she thought were good?? I don't know but on top of that, this place is run down and outdated. Seeing a baseboard and fake laminate flooring is old school. Not to mention the baseboards they are using aren't clean. This was all more noticeable after seeing the digital photos. Not enough toys/distractions to get a toddler to laugh or smile, a rubber ducky won't cut it, which is what was used. Had to ask about any Easter props, the woman taking the photos said she had to bring in her own. I'm going to call and complain to JCP not to get my money back, even though I'd love too, but they need to be aware of their antiquated way of taking "professional" photos. It's 2021 - time to up the ante or lower your prices. read more

This is my 3rd time coming to JCPenney Portraits. Customer service was provided by both Jodeci & Shannon. There was another associate there who appeared to do nothing from what I could tell, but I wasn't paying much attention to her so... The only reason I removed a star this time was because we had to wait so long after our appointment time even when I called to confirm the appointment was still confirmed for 12:15pm. We didn't get called to take pictures until about an hour after appointment time. I think the last times we took pics they were not on the weekends. The place was definitely busy, but a quick "hey we are running behind..." would have been nice since we are dealing with restless, energetic toddlers who get cranky waiting around too long for any one thing. I recommend more toddler/kid friendly toys, books, puzzles, & a desk play area to start. Anyway, as you can see they take great photos (scroll to see our photos). Shannon was our photographer this time and she did well. Another suggestion... more props to liven kids/toddlers/babies up a bit or make them laugh: stuffed animals, jingle bells, goofy hats, music, etc. Overall, great experience. Good photos. Pricey, but they have coupons and a membership that brings down the prices a bit. If you want a professional shoot, check them out. read more

I set an appointment two weeks in advance. I received a voicemail one day before my appointment listing numerous stipulation. Asking me to arrive 30 min early, stating that we only get 15 min in the camera room and that their internet is down so the photos would not be delivered digitally or print over the next week. When I returned their call, I spoke to the store manager who was extremely rude. I explained that I have a newborn and that I want confident we can get the shot in that time, he pretty much told me oh well and that if we didn't like the pics we still would have to pay. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. After reading the reviews here, it looks like they never have internet. I took pictures on Mother's Day (Sunday) and now I'm being told I will not have the pictures until almost a week later. She was also very creative making sure each picture was different and cute . And the best part was when we were picking our pictures to purchase . The first two photo sessions we had were with Rashada and the third was with Daniel. I'd highly recommend these two photographers! Both took great photos and did so well with our little guy! Monique aka Kayla. Is very rude and unprofessional. Lacks customer service skills and looks unhappy. She was our photographer, she answered the phone as Monique in front of me but wrote on my receipt Kayla..why? I wonder if she knew I would complain, that's why she changed her name. She refused to use the coupon I had and took it away from me, she offered me another coupon, more expensive and no free print. I asked if she could honor it, she refused too. I asked again, if there was anyway too honor or as a last time cuz that why I came to use this coupon, nope. I then looked for a better one online. When I called later that day, just a couple hours, she answered as Monique I told her she took my pix she said no, that she just came in. Now Monique is a LIAR to top to off. I know I had stopped coming to this location for a reason, a few months back it was a different issue with her and not letting us do 1 outfit change on a baby. We had such a great experience with the staff! I was able to get a last minute appointment for 8 people (5 adults/3 kids) with no problem. We waited only 5 mins before we were taken in to get our session started. Sean and Rashada not only made the session fun, but did an amazing job at capturing our family. Once done, it only took about 10 mins before we were able to see our pictures (which turned out great!) Sean, Rashada and Joseline were clear on our options, plus our pictures will be ready in less than a week. Went with my best friend to get her sons one month pictures taken Friday and our photographer was Jodeci. Her appointment time was 5:15 pm and they went over due to another photographer doing her families photo shoot, which is the reason for the 4-star. Jodeci was very sociable, knew exactly what she was doing and was very patient with my best friend when her son became fussy. Jodeci sat and talked with us the whole time.
