This department store is pretty sad. The selection is lackluster, everything is always a mess, their lines are long/slow and they have one price scanner on the first floor and it's broken. JC penny has always been a go to for my family for: Mother's Day, Christmas, birthdays, and regular visits to the mall. Yesterday we came to do a bit of shopping and noticed that the price check scanners were nowhere to be found. This is a huge inconvenience; it forces people to ask for price check at the checkout line, creating longer wait times. Maybe this is a tactic to boost up sales, since department stores are not doing well in this Amazon-shopping era. If it is, touché.  I came with the intention of buying shoes, and they had some really good deals. I noticed that the shoe section got slightly bigger, but it was also a big mess. The display shoes were not in their corresponding sections, and I couldn't find the style of shoe that I liked. JCP should reconsider the way they have their shoe set up or maybe have a couple of reps appointed just in that area.  Slight changes like these can make a huge difference in customer perception, on either side of the spectrum. read more

Last fall, I was in the JC Penny furniture department on the 4th floor (at the Northridge Fashion Center location) at around 7:15 pm. The store was open until 9. I found a coffee table I wanted to buy, but there was no salesperson or any employee working on the entire floor. I waited about 15 minutes and decided to go to another floor to find an employee. My mistake was not simply leaving the store. The person I found paged a manager to help me. The manager was nice but did not know furniture and did not know how to sell it. He explained that the one person working that department leaves at 7pm. He finally muddled through the purchase and said it would be delivered in about a month. Two days later I looked outside my front door and there was my table in a box (from China). It was simply dropped off by UPS. I never heard the doorbell ring. I got the box open and found a large gouge, apparently made by a tool that hit the table in multiple spots. There were a couple of other small nicks. This clearly happened at the factory as there was no damage to the box itself. Following is where it all went South. I contacted the store where I purchased the item and explained that it was damaged. I was told that I had to contact JCP.com because I ordered it online. I said I did not order it online. I purchased it in the store. Then I was told that the person who rung up the order did it incorrectly and that the store could not help me with it. I then went into the store and spoke with a person who works in the furniture department. She was nice and apologetic. I stood there with her for over an hour while she tried to resolve this with the parent company (JCP). I spoke with the rep on the phone as well. I was promised that I would be contacted within a week and that a new table would be sent. That never happened. After another failed phone conversation, with someone else at the local store, I contacted JCP via the number I was given by the store sales person. The "customer service" rep said I needed to rebox the table so that UPS could pick it up. I said there is no box. There is no way to open such a box with out cutting up the box. Therefore there is no box. I said I can take the damaged table back to the store and get another or a refund. She said "you can not take it back to the store." I said but I bought it from the store. She said that did not matter. She then said I could order a new table, be charged for it and put the old table in the box, that the new table comes in and send it back. I again explained the the damage that will be done to the box. I asked her how she expected a customer to do that. No one person could do this - regardless of the damage to the box. I spent hours going round and round between talking to people in the store and corporate. I finally said how about you refund me $100 and I'll keep the damaged table. She countered with $75. I took it so I could be done with them. I make it a point to support local business rather than buying everything online. That is because I know how much the "Brick and mortar" stores are hurting with so many people buying online. In my opinion, JPC does not care about that or how they treat their customers. In the future, I will never make any large ticket purchases such as furniture or appliances from JCP (either in store or on their website) due to the way I was treated. After experiencing all this, I understand why I keep hearing that JCP is in so much financial trouble. Well if they keep on treating their customers as I was treated, I expect them to be out of business sooner rather than later. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service from the 50-60 year old woman upstairs in the luggage department. She didn't wear a name tag but she was incredibly rude. When we brought the luggage to the counter to purchase she asked if we knew how expensive it was and were we sure we wanted to buy it. I was just walking through JCP jewelry area .. never intended on buying anything .. an elderly sales lady named Louise greeted me and my eye caught a gorgeous mans ring .. 1.5 ct of diamonds .. she showed me the ring .. rang up price .. but it was too much .. but with offered discounts I got the $5000 ring for $1600 which included a life time warranty on it and sizing. I don't like jewelry, I have my wedding band .. but this ring was gorgeous. Louise was so kind .. no pressure .. today she turns 80 years old .. she's a class act .. go see her at JCP Northridge .. she's so genuine .. My mom was convinced that JCPenney had "cute little tops" that I would like in the extremely minimal juniors section. They were boring as all hell. A v-neck t-shirt isn't really that cute. Maybe we weren't actually in the juniors section...? Oddly, there was a Sephora counter?!?!?!?!?! It seemed bizarre, because I always think of Sephora as a cosmetics wonderland, an enormous store where I am free to cover myself in glitter and J.Lo perfume (do they still make that?) and products I will never ever buy (I don't even wear makeup). But I guess this was just a big counter, like regular makeup counters, that probably only sold Sephora brand. Still, in Penney's? Maybe, had I gone more than 30 feet into the store, I would have unearthed other wonders. read more

JCP DAY SPA REVIEW: This is the only JC Penney location that I know of that has a Day Spa. A few years back, I was looking for a good nail salon in the valley and I decided to make an appointment here. I met Stephanie, my nail tech, and I was hooked. She was so good that I started going on a monthly basis. Sadly, Stephanie ended up moving back home, but they have Judy now and she is great too. The nail services are not cheap by any means, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The thing that I really love is that when you get a pedicure, you are in a PRIVATE room with at most one other client. I have been lucky enough in the entire time that I have gone to never have another client in the room with me. I cannot describe how relaxing it is to be pampered in private. They really take their time on your nails and make sure that you understand how to care for your nails and skin when you go home. If I had the money, I'd make it a weekly affair! read more

Sue C. is a MORON! Thank god for Abraham! So JCPenney offered buy 1 get 1 free on dress shirts $50 each (so $25 each). I needed a few new shirts for work and I picked out 6 that I liked. Sue C. was first to assist and rang up all 6 shirts to a total over $200?!? I questioned her asking about the sale and all she kept repeating is ohh well that's how they come up on the screen. Really?!? What kind of customer service is that?!? Now my wife and I are upset and debating on leaving with nothing because JCPenney employees will not honor JCPenney advertised deals! Thankfully, Abraham overheard the conversation and stepped in and honored the advertised deal, which is what Sue C. should have done in the first place! Overall I like JCPenney deals, however Sue C. either needs additional training on all systems and customer service or simply just to be let go. Abraham being able to diffuse the situation before it got out of control I would consider for a promotion or at least a bonus. The point of the review is simply honor the deals that you offer! My sister had an appointment for a family photo at noon, we arrived on time but was told that there were two families ahead of us. I'm thinking about my kids and their attention span. An hour went by and there are still one family ahead of us. I was getting annoyed because my kids were getting tired, there were only 2 chairs outside, they were so backed up and I see more families arriving to their scheduled appointment. Bad management!! We were finally called in after an hour and fourty-minutes. JCPenny Photo should have one gal taking the pictures and the other gal showing the pictures. The problem was both girls were taking the pictures and both of them came out and show the pictures. People usually take a descent amount of time to pick a portrait. So, both the girls were stuck showing the pictures while all of us were waiting to have our photos taken. The gal whom took our pictures, she looked exhausted. She didn't get my kids to stand properly, smile when she's about to snap the shot. Or perhaps my kids' statute of limitations has expired and they just wanted to go home and do fun stuff on a Sunday afternoon. That was a torture for all of us. read more

JCP Salon: I made an appointment hear once for a touch-up. I felt the services were way too pricey for what they were. I spent $100 in comparison to my usually $65. My pockets are empty as is. The stylist was very rough, and heavy handed. Not pleasant considering that I am tender-headed. She flat-ironed my hair which was unusual for me. I was satisfied with my hair, but only satisfied. Not thrilled. I only went to this salon out of desperation because I had recently relocated and found myself desperate and anxious. I actually recieved a recommendatio from a fellow yelper (which I was appreciative of). It wasn't an awful experience, but I did not return. JCP did send me reminders by mail welcoming me back to the salon and encouraging me to reschedule with the stylist I had seen. I believe a couple of coupons for salon services may have accompanied the "reminders". read more

I don't even know where to start with this disaster of a store, I bought a mattress two months ago and yet to this day we are still waiting for it to be delivered. I have contacted multiple managers including the shipping company themselves and they have no idea where the mattress is, they have been showing it to be in transit for weeks now, they went as far as canceling the order and opening a new one to see if that would speed up the process, I have been sent 2 bills from the financing company and had to pay or my credit will get affected, I strongly advise everybody to not buy anything from these people, their unprofessionalism is second to none. This is by far the worst transaction and experience I've ever had to deal with in any store, I will absolutely tell this story to all my friends and family members to ensure they do not visit the store or any JCPenney for that matter, I honestly don't write many reviews on yelp, but this is something that I felt the need to do as I am beyond frustrated, The lack of Professionalism shown is beyond incredible!! The TACT and thoughtfulness of an employee in JC Penny named Azniv...i am around size 22/24 so, a bigger girl, and I asked if she sold suits, and she said, are you looking for yourself or someone else? And I told her myself, and she said, "Women's sizes are upstairs to the left, and regular sizes are (and explained how to get to the other area)" I was so impressed! Instead of using words like "larger sizes or plus size" which is totally true, but we are still sensitive when people realize we are fat hahahahaha. She was just incredible! I wanted to notice her! I didn't join the line on Thanksgiving Day to get a mere possible coupon as I get coupons all the time, but I did go today (Saturday, the day after), and A LOT of things were 50 to 60% off! Today, May 4 we are here wating 1.5 hrs after they schedule us for a family portrait. The crew don't even bother to apologize for the delay, I guess they are used to do this to everybody, since everyone here that is a customer seems to be complaining about the same & not for the first time, including us. This place is so NASTY now. I used to shop here years ago but it went downhill and all the nice Associates that used to work here I left, probably on to better jobs. Went to this JC Penney with no mask on since I have been vaccinated for months and a worker stopped me and told me I had to wear a mask to do business in the store and that all guests are required. She gave me attitude and I said I won't do business with a store who doesn't follow state mandates.
