The food and drinks here are very good but... The place is grossly understaffed, cigarette and cigar smoke drifts in every time the side door is opened when the patrons are allowed to smoke in the patio, if you are not a regular the one bartender/server walks right by you. If you happen to get service, order two drinks per head because you'll be sitting there with an empty bottle/glass! If you're lucky enough to put in a food order be prepared to grab your dishes off the staging counter yourself. I saw someone do that once. My girlfriend and I went this weekend and got a table right away but waited 17 minutes before we got up and left without so much a "I'll be right with you or here are some menus". Yep this is cool rock roll Bar and Grill. So I had been hear once with my sister and daughter last year where we found good service just as my visit back is still great service . Bartender today is new to this establishment but her attitude was positive vibes makes ya want to hangout a bit longer.... just sayin. I had their Walnut Creek Chicken Salad with some Sourdough toast.... so recommend if your looking for something fresh and lite as the salad has strawberries, walnuts of course, cranberries, feta cheese and rue-gala lettuce .... ohh and grilled chicken with a vignette style dressing. They didn't even check our table to see if we needed anything and our food took too long. We did enjoy our meals. We were here in town for the lemon festival. I have seen the outdoor tenting outside of J. D. Allisons and decided to take my wife there outside diner. Upon arriving we noticed no one sitting outside. We went to the door only to be told they were serving indoor only. The place was crowded and not a mask in sight. No Covid dining protocols in place what so ever. I've lived in Upland over 10 years now, I love the town because it reminds me of where I grew up back East. JD Allisons was the first place I came to eat in town and recommend them often! But, sadly to say I had one of the worst experiences last Friday night. I met a friend for dinner and drinks early and it was already crowded because they were going to have a band that night and lots of groupies were already there. We ordered drinks and then decided to order food. Their food is always good, but the service is never that great, you wait forever! We had our food and then the music started and it got quite loud and overly crowded so we decided we should leave. As always it took forever to get our bill but when we did the very rude, all night, waitress snipidly said to us, you can't sit here anymore without buying food or drinks, which I replied, why do you think we're asking for the bill?? She then went on a tiraid about people waiting for tables and it's not her fault it's the owners.....yada, yada, yada. If she's so unhappy with her job, don't work as a waitress! I paid for my drinks and dinner, if I want to sit for another 30 minutes I should be able to do so! I guess I'll never come to JD's on a Friday night again! read more

Been here a few times and after last night I doubt I'll go back. Called for a take out order and was put on hold for 10 minutes. Decided to hang up and just go down there. We were in the area selling at an event so it was only a 2 minute walk. When we arrived the place was practically empty... maybe 4 customers total so there's NO EXCUSE for a 10 minute phone hold. The food was also HIGHLY disappointing. I ordered their BLT with avocado add pepper jack cheese. The bacon was so overcooked it was like eating wood chips. The toast was over toasted and hard and for some weird reason they melted my cheese I requested....I didn't ask for the cheese to be melted, I actually HATE melted cheese on my sandwiches (with the exception of a patty melt, but that's really more of a burger anyway) so I'm not sure why the chef took it upon himself to melt the cheese. The fries were good but the ranch was waaaaay too salty. I took like 2 bites of my disgusting sandwich, ate 3 fries and the rest went in the trash. read more

So today was my husband's and my second time here. We came running back within a week of our first visit. I see the 1 star reviews but understand, those are people who are upset about the whole Covid thing. I get it but let me tell you, the food here is superb! Grant's grunge burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. The California chicken burger was so full of flavor! Wings cooked to crispy deliciousness! Salad and dressing also very satisfying. I use the champagne vinaigrette mixed with ranch, delicious! I actually work in the food service industry and everything that we have tried did not disappoint. Great service at 2 in the afternoon. I went here one night by myself as I had to wait for Robin (she does my braids) to show up at her shop for me to get the hair done. I ordered the "Allison's Signature Rutherford Valley Salad" a delicious combination of herbed potatoes, goat cheese, mesculin greens, chicken and dried cranberries it is served with a Champagne Vinaigrette. This salad smells good and LOOKS visually perfect. I met 2 people while I was sitting there and had great conversation listening to 80's tunes. Dont go there! If you do watch your tabs! These guys are notorious for over charging credit cards. I had the worst waitress ever take my card to hold my tab open. I told her I would be paying cash when we were done. I paid the bill with cash and took my card. A few days later I see a credit card transaction for over 150.00!! I went there to show them my statement but apparently the owner wasnt there. The server said she would forward my information. I never got a call. I called back more times than I can count only to be told Lauren wasnt there and they would give her the message. Now they are not taking my calls. Why do I only get to give this place 5 stars? Best bar in downtown Upland by far! I've been to them all and the others can't even come close to the great food, great servers, and just a good hometown vibe! If I could leave no stars I would , I came here last week on a Friday night just to have one last beer of the night & at first it was okay wasn't really welcomed everyone just turned around and stared . There was live music at the time which was nice so figured that's why we were stared at . Me and my friends ordered a beer all together on one tab , didn't tip on the first beer normally like to leave a cash tip before I leave . We decided to go for one more beer and two of us went we ordered 4 draft beers so we went to go take the beers to our table outside and instantly started getting yelled at by the bartender . Unsure of her name but seems like her name is desirae due to all the bad reviews on here about her that seem similar to my experience. Me and my friends we're switching off paying so we didn't tip when we ordered our last beer because our other friend was going to come in and leave a cash tip . She instantly started yelling and cussing at us and said we needed to get out and never come back because it was the second time not tipping them and they work for tips and all this stuff and it was a bit embarrassing the band stopped playing everyone turned around staring . We didn't even say anything back besides okay it took us completely by surprise and didn't want her to ruin our night . TJ McCutchins has a sports bar atmosphere with better than average bar food. We have had the Patty Melt and the open face turkey sandwich as well as burgers and beers at BD Wongs. JD Salingers has a little bit of outdoor seating and one flatscreen outside. We have watched a ball game or two while dining at A.A. Milne's. I also liked their rye manhattan made with Bulliet Rye whiskey...tasty drink here at H.G. Wells. JG Wentworth's has lots of daily specials. One of my favorite daily Happy Hour specials at AJ Spumoni's is the sliders. On slider night at PD Eastman's they have a fixin's bar. Come to think of it, at HR Puff n' Stuffs they may have the fixin's bar all the time. The service here has always been pretty good even when they are very busy and I give the servers here at HP Lovecraft's a lot of credit for that. We have been here to MJ Tolkein's probably 5 or 6 times and my wife still calls it something different every time, hence the many references to KD Burelli's. All in all, AJ McLean's is a good spot in downtown Upland. Anyway, look for upscale bar food and sports bar atmosphere at JK Rowling's! read more

Our first fist here, was a great place. I ordered the grunge burger with shoestring fries. My date the PI man had the pepper turkey avocado sandwich. The grunge burger was amazing the only down fall was a little over done. The shoestring fries were seasoned just right. The relish they put on it was amazing. If your a ice tea drinker they are on spot for the perfect tea. Looks like we found another place to go. It's a small seats about 50 people and sits on the corner. Everything I've ordered has been yummy. It's a great spot for variety. They have seared tuna on salad with yummy light sauces. Their hamburgers are big and delicious with avocado and ranch dressing. The half sandwiches are great. I always order to go for convenience since it's fast and local to my salon. I'll definitely eat there again and again. We happen to be in Upland checking out some stores and of course we got hungry. There are not very many restaurants in downtown Upland but as we walked past this one we saw that the menu was posted outside. Looked pretty good. We walked in and it is a very small space so we decided to sit up at the bar. From the outside looking and you might think or consider it a dive bar. However they had a good selection of liquor and the menu was very well put together. I had a chicken sandwich with avocado and it was very juicy and tasty. My husband had an Italian sausage sandwich which he said was really good as well. We will definitely visit this place again for a beer and some good food read more

This restaurant is NOT following COVID protocol at ALL. Waitress was walking around without a mask handling our food after previously having one. Next issue is the fact that we waited for over an hour and a half for our food. A couple who showed up after us who ordered double the food got their meal before us. Understandably it was a Friday and the outdoor patio was a bit busy, but it was still unacceptable. The main issue was the mask. COVID protocols are a hassle, we all understand that...but this was absolutely unacceptable. Handling multiple tables' food, face to face with guests, it was crazy.
