We spent a fortune on custom cabinets with JD. The cabinets are fine, but we have had many problems with the hardware for the TV cabinets and cannot get them to come to our house to fix the broken hardware, leaving us in a bad spot. Really disappointing. Be careful! read more

Upgrading our master sitting room to a library is the biggest remodeling project we have ever undertaken, and Julio put it together for us, better than we could have imagined. Now all my books have a home, and my family has a new favorite room in the house. After rough preparation work by other contractors, Julio put in the following: 140 linear feet of library shelves, countertops and cabinets under all of them, a matching work table, hidden speaker and screen enclosures, crown moulding and baseboards (the whole room), and a spectacular mantelpiece around our new gas fireplace. All of it was made with designs, materials, and finishes we chose, sometimes after much discussion. (I'm an engineer but not a carpenter, so there were lots of design ideas to go through.) In the design and fabrication process Julio was always there to give us excellent advice and guidance, and he quietly let us follow our inclinations and whims. When an idea didn't work out he cheerfully helped us find a better one. Sometimes this even involved a change to work that was already done, but Julio was invariably supportive about getting it done for us just right. And that's what happened in the end. Sometimes we paid extra for time and materials after changes, but on the whole everything happened according to Julio's original estimates, because he never gave us the "nickel and dime" treatment some contractors are fond of. The actual installation work was done in a neat, competent, and timely way. We were picky about many of the details and Julio and his men dealt with them all with cheerful professionalism. I would hire Julio's team again in a heartbeat, on any important project involving fine, tasteful craftsmanship. read more

Best experience with a vendor ever!!! Julio and his guys are the best! We used a different local company for our bathroom remodel and it was a horrible experience. When we were ready for the kitchen remodel, we chose JD Custom Cabinets and we are absolutely thrilled with the outcome. Julio listened to me and got my ideas on paper. Then he promised 6 weeks until install, but had the cabinets ready in 3 weeks! (who does that?!) His prices were very reasonable, and his install team were so quiet, I sometimes forgot they were there. The were very careful with my walls and floor and were very clean. Because JD Custom Cabinets builds in their Newark shop, and handles the install too - I never was worried about something not working out. I knew Julio would be able to fix it. But it was perfect! Julio and his team designed, built and installed a custom bathroom vanity cabinet and mirrored medicine cabinet for my master bedroom. He came to my house twice before the installation date, once as a pre-sale visit and once the day before installation to make sure everything was in order. I also visited his shop in Newark 3 times during the fabrication process to make sure my evolving requirements were met. I handled the plumbing and purchased a Jensen custom dual-bowl cultured marble vanity top from Dale Hardware in Fremont. Julio chose the cabinet wood and stain so it would perfectly match my bedroom set. He is a good communicator and was patient with my continual questions via text messages, phone calls and visits throughout the process. His 3 person installation team which included Julio himself did a great job, including installation of the vanity top which I could never have done alone. All in all this was a great experience and we are extremely pleased. read more

My husband and I had been planning our kitchen remodel for many months before we got started, and had visited several cabinet suppliers and installers before we found Julio at JD Custom Cabinets. After our first meeting we knew we would be using them for our kitchen remodel. Every step, from measuring our kitchen and appliances, to our visits to the shop to see samples and pick a color, (which he matched perfectly to a piece of furniture we have in our kitchen), to the final installation of our new cabinets, was made convenient for us and was done professionally and on schedule. Julio always accommodated our schedule changes, and quickly found solutions to every hiccup that arose through no fault of his. When we got a new built in microwave part way through the job, and had to ask him to change the whole layout to fit the new measurements, he was fast to let me know it was no problem for him and he was happy to do it for us. His crew works very well together and does a thorough job, and they were a pleasure to have in our home. The final result, the finished product, was the icing on the cake. They did a fantastic job, and we couldn't be happier with their work and with our beautiful cabinets. In my opinion, two of the best compliments you can give a contractor is to say you would use them again, and that you would recommend them to your family and friends. We searched high and low for a craftsman to create a center piece to match our existing entertainment center - French provincial in a washed oak - needed to accommodate a larger 54" TV. We had JD cabinets removed all the six old built-in closets from the 60s and reinstalled new ones according to our needs. Quick response and gave an estimate quote with detailed illustration. Their schedule was already full in December and scheduled us for late Jan, showed up as scheduled to first take apart old closets the first morning, and then installed new ones on a following day, and finished two remaining trims a third morning in an hour with all touchup. They're very quick and gave very good protection and care to our hardwood floor, and cleaned up very well afterwards each time. Very good team with good work. On the side we got three quotes in total before hiring, and they're the only one that really followed "custom closets" -- according to our needs and went with what we want, instead if pushing for what they think we want. read more

Julio and his team just finished our custom cabinets. We have a 600 sqft kitchen, so A LOT of cabinets. We are very impressed with the final products. The cabinets are of top notch quality, solid wood, dovetail, inset. We were so impressed with Julio's work, we have since asked him to make our bookshelf and master closet. We are very picky folks, and I must say his team delivered the finished products on time, with top quality. Also, one other important factor, they are about 15% cheaper than other custom cabinet makers in the area. Julio is the best. We were looking for a good cabinet maker to help us build period type kitchen cabinets to match our 1916 Craftsman style home. We got prices from several different makers, as well as the box store type, but Julio was the only maker that offered to come out to our house, talk to us and survey the space before giving us a price. We chose to work with Julio based on his earnestness and frankly, his complete lack of attitude. Some of the other custom cabinet makers seemed impatient when we asked questions or wanted specific details. Admittedly his price was higher than the others, but we chose rift sawn white oak wood, with inset drawers and period hardware, and some playful design features we asked for to match older style cabinets. However, his price did include installation which I really liked because it told us he wanted to see the finish product was correctly done. And as the builder, he could make needed adjustments or add details that would have delayed the project or cost more if we'd hired a separate contractor. All the way through the build, he patiently answered questions, priced options, stayed in communication and any change or extra we wanted was "yes, of course". The real benchmark of his determination to make us happy was adding 3 drawers that we missed on the drawings, days before we were scheduled for the install. Which also entailed altering 3 doors that were already built. At no extra cost. I can honestly say that Julio is one of the few Contractors I've hired that did what he said he would do, at the price he promised, and with the quality of workmanship we hoped for. We're still waiting for counter tops and backsplash tile, and then I'll update my review with pictures. Thanks Julio! read more

Julio did our master bath Vanity and master bedroom closet; shown in his photos. He was very patient and stopped by several times to finalize plans. He was very flexible with changing the design till the last moment since we were unsure of the space we could get to work with. We had to remove a part of our fireplace to know if it was structural or not to get the extra space and he was very accommodating till demo was done.
