Best decision I have made on an engine replacement in years... I purchase an engine from another company and even after 3 weeks they were not able to get it shipped to me, That company gave me a refund. Next i contacted Alex at JDM LA and needed an engine fairly quickly. He found my motor, and asked me to hold for a minute. When he came back he said if i can pay now, it would be on a truck in 4 hours.  I gave him a credit card for about 2250.00 ish bucks. No kidding my motor arrived in 26 hours! I am 400 miles from the warehouse, so if you live further your time might be slightly longer. The point is they ship fast! About my motor! With the 2.5 subaru engine, I had to pretty much change everything except the long block. The intake that comes on it is Japanese to the vacuum attachments are on opposite sides. The water outlet under the intake had to be changed as well. The Japanese model uses a different sensor set up and hose location. The engine mounts fit but the oil cooler above the filter did have to be swapped as well. I changed the rear main seal and the trans torque convertor seal just to be safe. I pulled the oil pan and was happy to find they leave the oil in engine during transport. No issues with rust or any bad signs at all. Then i changed the valve cover gaskets, Again the motor looked clean inside. We also installed new timing, water pump, and thermostat. With all that, New injectors and plugs, we installed the motor. When we fired the engine up, it ran beautifully. No noises, no issues, just a great running engine! I am beyond happy with this purchase and highly recommend this branch of JDM to anyone. Horrible company I do not recommend, I ordered an engine and their driver crashed into my property did not provide any information as in insurance. I had to call them directly to report it and they have yet to help me solve the situation they are a shady company . Accident occurred August 5th 2025 they still do not want to provide any insurance or compensation They are trying to say it's both our faults but it is only the drivers fault nobody told the driver to enter the drive way again I highly do not recommend unless you wanna pay for an engine and damages to your own property!!! read more

I am utterly disappointed with the engine purchase I made from JDM Motor Import Inc. The engine was delivered to my mechanic's shop, where it remained untouched until all the parts for the build had arrived some months later. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the engine was completely non-functional. The cams and cylinder heads were damaged, cylinder 4 and piston were destroyed, and there were chunks of metal in the oil pan. Despite the engine being sold as functional, it was evident that it was in a state of severe disrepair from the moment it left their hands. While I acknowledge that I should have torn down the engine the moment it was delivered, the fact remains that JDM Motor Import sold me a bad engine while assuring me it was functional before taking my money. This is at best a glaring lack of care for quality control, and at worst fraud. The company's refusal to acknowledge their responsibility in selling a defective product is appalling. They assured me of the engine's condition ahead of purchase, yet when confronted with undeniable proof of the pre-existing damage, they hid behind their expired warranty policy. This is not just poor customer service; it's a blatant disregard for honest business practices. I was willing to cover the cost of shipping the defective engine back and the shipping for a replacement, yet they refused to cooperate. This experience has been nothing short of frustrating, and their lack of accountability is disgraceful. If you're considering purchasing from this company, I strongly advise you to reconsider. We ordered a couple Prius motors and had them shipped to Hawaii Is. JDM palletized, strapped, shrink wrapped and enclosed the pallet with plywood. When engines arrived, they looked like they were barely used. The air boxed were broke, but can be swapped out with ours. We will order again from JDM!!! Thank you!! read more

Summary: Ordered a motor and transmission. the motor was great, the transmission was defective. JDM LB agreed to take back the transmission and cover shipping if I ordered a new transmission from them. then they went back on their word, refunded me 70% of what I paid, and made me dispose of the transmission myself. Customer service was friendly enough, but literally every time I tried to call and talk to someone, they asked me "Can you call back in 15 minutes?", making the process take 10x longer than it should have. Full review: I ordered a k24a motor and transmission, and the motor was great. The transmission, however, was throwing a code. my mechanic worked with their service technicians who verified that the transmission was in fact faulty. They told me that they require the customer to pay for return shipping in the case of a bad component, but since i was purchasing another transmission from them they reluctantly agreed to cover return shipping. I order a new transmission for $895, and waited a little over a week. I called back because I hadn't heard anything, and they told me (after I called THEM) that they actually didn't have another transmission to send me. They refunded me the cost of that transmission and told me they would still cover return shipping. After I found a quality transmission elsewhere, they decided that they didn't actually want the transmission back, but told me they would still be charging $200 for return shipping, and told me that I would have to dispose of the old transmission myself. Overall, I would avoid these guys. there are a dozen JDM distributors in California, and the process of working with the Long Beach location felt like they didn't really care about the customer, and then the communication, once things went sideways, was poor. read more

I'm not usually one to come on yelp and write reviews, but these dudes screwed me out of $100, so I gotta warn other people. Nice guys but they run an incredibly unorganized shop. I checked in with them twice, via email and phone to verify that they had the parts I need. Both times they told me that everything was good to go and that they allowed local pick-ups, so I rented a U-haul and made my way out to them. When I arrived they had no idea what I was talking about and didn't have the parts that they mentioned online or via phone. They kept on putting it off on some dude that wasn't working that day. Can you get good parts for these dudes? I'm sure, but I personally don't have the time or resources to be wasting on these guys' poor bookkeeping. When switching gears it grinds & lags to switch gears. I asked for an exchange or even a little discount on a new transmission. They said no I had to buy a whole new one from them! I bought a Subaru 2.5 na SOHC import motor, less than 10,000 miles later it loses compression and dies. After inspecting the damage, I strongly believe they didn't and don't compression test, or do any real inspection of these motors. These guys sell junk and their company is a joke. Just get a rebuild or a motor with a company standing behind it. P.S : I found their basic knowledge of US vs JDM parts and compatability to be completely lacking. One of many examples; they suggested clear silicone for the pcv, which is mounted to the engine block. So that gives you an idea of how they fix things. read more

If I could I would put zero stars but Yelp wouldn't let me. I was in contact with Rudy one of the employees at the shop and basically got I thought a decent deal on eBay and they sent me a crap engine that had rust all over it and wasn't even close to what a 2002 WRX should fit as far as a JDM motor engine goes. These people are crap do not buy from them. They will do everything in their power to keep all of your money even if they send you the wrong parts. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!! I WARN YOU. Friend recommended me to this place, when I went there I bought an engine and mind you I paid 80 bucks extra compared to other JDM shops for this engine and then they charged me an additional $50 for shipping, but when my friend found out I paid for shipping he told me it should've been free because his engine and the stores website says free delivery within SoCal. When I contacted the owner Dell, he refused to give me back my delivery fee saying that I already signed the purchase order... unbelievable! If you do business here, be extremely careful as it seems they will try to get as much cash from you as possible from the untrained buyer.
