FOOD (3/5): $22 WINGS COMBO 7-PIECE (2 flavors, 1 side, 1 dip, 1 soda): I saw photos on Yelp of wings with real garlic pieces so I ordered the only flavor on the menu with garlic in the name "GARLIC PARMESAN" but it was not the same, it was a powder, it was good, just wanted actual garlic pieces. Maybe they don't sell that flavor anymore? The second flavor I got was "MANGO HABANERO", both were average to me. I didn't know the wings already come with veggies (carrots & celery) so I ordered veggies as my side and got 2 sets of veggies. Don't make my mistake. SERVICE (4/5): If you order ONLINE, it didn't explain what the flavors are. Most of them are self explanatory but a few are just made up names so you really have no idea what flavor it is. They also don't tell you that veggie sticks already come free with the wings order, so don't waste that as your side! Unless you want double. The order said it would take 15-20 minutes and took exactly that! They packed it in the absolutely biggest blue bag I've ever seen for a food order in my life LOL! I feel like it was a trash bag? My only complaint is the cartilage was too chewy and tough for me to actually eat. I don't usually have that issue so it was surprising. I picked the worst possible day to try out JD's Wings & Thingz... on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! I walked in and there were at least 20 boxes of wings waiting to be picked up and I could see that the guys in the back were still super busy. But you know what? I went up to the register and asked if I was crazy to place an order for five wings. She checked with the guys in back and said they could squeeze my order in and have it ready in five to ten minutes. How's that for service?! There are a few kiosks for ordering and I just went with standard buffalo sauce which is usually my go to, especially when trying a new place. It looks like they have 14 different flavors with a mix of mostly wet but some dry rubs too, so there is something for everybody. They also have some special deals for students. There are a bunch of tables against the wall all the way to the back if you would like to dine-in. Low and behold, in less than ten minutes my order was ready to go. I thanked the gal at the front counter and the guys in the back and was on my way. I got home and dug in. Each piece of chicken was a real good size, especially the drumsticks which were huge. They had great buffalo flavor and wow were they juicy! When you eat wings, you are usually not thinking about the nutritional value but it's a bonus to know they bake their wings and don't fry them. The wings also came with a nice size bag of carrots and celery and a container of blue cheese dressing at no additional cost. JD's is located on the corner of Bradford and Chapman. It is easy to locate and access. Parking is decent. The inside is clean and inviting and done in a sports theme. Some outside tables are set up if you prefer dining al fresco. I was immediately greeted by a super friendly young man wearing a chef's coat. He was very welcoming and asked if it was my first time visiting. Since it was, he enthusiastically explained their menu and wing flavor options. I wanted to try a wet and a rub and went with his recommendation of the Big C's and lemon pepper. I placed my order at the counter (to go) and waited at one of the tables for my order to come up. When it was ready, the friendly young man brought it to me and wished me a great day. Just his thoughtful customer service will have me coming back! When I got home I could also appreciate how the container was labeled. First of all, that their wings are baked, never fried. Then, he thoughtfully labeled what flavor was on each side. Extra customer service points!! I started with the lemon pepper wings. Nicely seasoned, slightly over salted, but a dunk in ranch dressing balanced it out perfectly. Next, the Big C's. Just as the young man explained, these wings had a nice honey flavor with a slight hit of heat at the end. All the wings had a good amount of actual chicken and were moist and tender. As I mentioned at the beginning, the customer service alone would've had me coming back, but tasty wings, too? A definite new spot that I'll be frequenting! Should have learned my lesson from last year.... I placed an online order for the Super Bowl one week ahead of the game. I requested a pick up at 2pm and didn't end up getting my food until 3pm. Management needs to prepare for the large orders they would be getting for this day and have some sort of system ready to go. Disappointed. I have been here before a couple times and thought the wings were good but as of recently the quality definitely went down. This was my first time trying the chicken sandwich I was excited and then quickly realized the chicken was very burnt on one side and undercooked on the other. It was so bad I couldn't continue eating it so I just tossed it. Disappointed I spent $13 just to not be able to eat it. Stopped in for some wings with my girlfriend. Ordered 3 flavors, garlic parmigiana, buffalo, and barbecue. All were good, buffalo was just the right heat imo, spicy enough that you knew you were having hot wings but not so hot that you can't finish them. I was disappointed with how they came out; the tots weren't crispy, they were more soggy with oil and it didn't seem like it was consistently seasoned. As for the sandwich, the breading was more mushy than crispy, so it turned out messy to eat. As for the chicken itself, it was kind of bland; it's like flavor only came from the breaded seasoning. The other thing that was off putting was the lack of someone up front taking orders. I initially thought it was one of those automated places, so when I input my order through a touch screen, I only realized there was someone working there when they popped out with my order. Spoiler alert: the name might refer to how they feel about your time. First off, bring a snack. Maybe even a meal. Heck, pack a picnic because whether you order online or via their kiosk, you're about to embark on the Hunger Games. We placed our order online, which came with a alresdy one-hour wait according to their site. Fine, I thought, patience is a virtue. But when we arrived, we were told, "Oh, it'll be just 20 more minutes!" So we waited in the car. After 20 minutes? You guessed it--another "just 20 more minutes." This cycle repeated until our 50% off wings turned into a 200% test of endurance. Final tally: two hours from order to wings-in-hand. Now, onto the wings themselves: OG Hot: Imagine licking a salt shaker that's been sitting in a sauna. Triple C Hot Honey: Sweet, yes. Hot? Only if you consider room-temperature syrup "spicy."
