Stopped here on my way back from NYC yesterday and figured I give it shot. Didn't feel like the Steak Loft or going downtown so I popped in. Very impressive selection of beers which one would expect from a place that says Beer Hall on the outside. I liked the way they were listed on screens above the bar. What disappointed me was the food. Not a very extensive selection and again I was expected the French Kitchen but it was limited. I selected the Chicken Vol Ne Vent (chicken pie basically) because that is my go to food in pubs. It had a unique taste compared to most the filo dough was to think and a little tough. Great place to sample beers and grab some good food. We enjoy stopping in this local favorite. Today we had a "snack" after a visit to the Mystic Aquarium. We ordered the pretzel charcuterie board which was delicious. Such a creative way to serve the pretzel. We shared Buffalo wings that were warm and dressed well with the right amount of crisp. My son had a bowl of New England clam chowder which he devoured. The Cobb salad was delicious. For drinks we had sangria, hard seltzer, and tequila pineapple cocktail. The hard seltzer was ok. The sangria was light and not to sweet or strong. The tequila drink was the best tasting we thought. They have a variety of drinks for every pallet. The beer is of course the highlight but they have such a vast variety of drink and food that anyone can feel bf something that appeals to them. We came for lunch yesterday . We had the choice for indoor or outdoor dining . We stayed inside . They let us know the only tables available were bar style tables . That was fine . We had a large table and we sat at the end . Before we left another couple were seated at the end of the table . The staff are amazing . Our waitress was friendly and efficient . Also , they had alot of helpers clearing tables , and checking in on us . My friend had the big pretzel . It was chewy and three dipping sauces . For our main , I had the chicken and avocado wrap . It was a great choice . Some feta , veges in it . The chicken was grilled and seasoned nicely . Fries were hot and delicious . My friend had the cod fish and chips . She said it was delicious . The cod was lightly fried and two large pieces . We both took food home . We came early for lunch at 11:30 ish . I think they were prepared to be very busy later. Wow. This restaurant is amazing. No wonder it's always packed. First off, the waitress was helpful, and kind. The drink, was unique and delicious. It was a fun twist on a Mai Tai! The food.... omg. The buffalo rangoons were different and I mean that in such a good way. My fiancé and I had the Brewster burger (I think that's what it's called) It was cooked to perfection, not greasy but sooo juicy. It has blue cheese and buffalo on it, and it was perfect. If you get that one make sure you like blue cheese cause it's very strong tasting but delicious! Best burger I've ever had. Being located in a heavily tourist-y part of Mystic, I didn't have outrageous expectations for The Jealous Monk, however given the slow in business due to Covid, I would have expected decent service. This is not what we received. We waited over 40 minutes for a table which was to be expected with the lowered capacity. After being seated we waited 15 just for the hostess to bring us water...no server to be seen. AND the hostess only brought us one water...for two people. Another 10 minutes after the water finally arrived, a server arrived at our table with a "You ready to order?" Was this our waitress? I guess...I wouldn't really know because she never introduced herself, never apologized for our wait, never said she was our waitress. Just a "You ready to order?" When we gave her our order she just turned and left saying, "ok". We were stumped. Has COVID so impacted the standard of service that we have lost common courtesy? Besides this, the food was awful. The bratwurst sandwich was so bad my husband was literally trying to drown the taste out with beer. The fries were wrinkly and cold. We had to flag down the manager just to get a water refill and a second drink. This is all at HALF CAPACITY! I'm glad we never ate here at full capacity- we might still be there waiting for the check! Overall, the service was beyond poor. The food was below mediocre. I would love to just pick up the Jealous Monk and move it to Long Island. I would hang out there everyday after work. I love everything about this place from the interior to the exterior so whoever designed the Jealous Monk a huge thumbs up to you. I was walking around Old Mystic Village with my husband and it was starting to rain and we came across the Jealous Monk and took shelter. Inside is huge open area with large tables and a large bar area. They have a huge selection of draft beers. Beers I tell you beers!! I believe they have over 50 different beers or something like that! It's beer heaven. This place is soooooo cool! Upon stumbling across this cool spot. We came in sat down ordered some appetizers and beers and hung out for a while. The staff are super friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our time here waiting out the rain. We enjoyed it so much we returned later that night for some light appetizers and of course more beer. We hung out and got to enjoyed there multiple out door fire pits. It's just a very chill place to hang out at and have really good food and beer. On our last day we returned to have breakfast and enjoy one last meal. I can't wait to visit Mystic again just so I have an excuse to come back here. Great food, beer, customer service and atmosphere they definitely have done everything right here. During the garlic festival the Jealous Monk caught my eye with $10 bottomless mimosas during brunch. Yes please, sign me up. My husband and I shared the biscuits and gravy and an order of deviled eggs. While sipping on as many mimosas as my tummy would fit my husband had his fare share of beer choices. I believe 30 on tap plus bottles. He found a few to his liking and he is a beer snob. The waitstaff at the bar were busy yet accommodating and entertaining. Jealous Monk is located in Olde Mistick Village (really a tourist destination for shopping, food and even a movie!) and it is a very standard Gastropub. I mean that in a good way. It is spacious with lots of wood decor (and of course Edison bulbs). Seating is broken up into large, long tables with high chairs and regular tables along the edge. When you are seated you are presented with a tablet listing the current beer choices. When my group sat down, our original server was very enthusiastic and friendly. However she promptly disappeared and we never saw her again for the rest of the night. After we did the "Look around helplessly" thing, another server finally appeared to help us. What's odd is that the restaurant was mostly empty inside but apparently the outside seating was completely full. Granted it was a Tuesday night so I do not expect a ton of staff but this was unusual. I ordered the BBQ chicken platter along with an order of their "Eggplant Fries". The fries were eggplant cut up into fry shapes, battered and friend. It came with a spicy and creamy dipping sauce. If you like eggplant parm, then this is the snack for you. It was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and tasted great. The BBQ chicken platter was very satisfying. It had half a chicken, potatoes and corn on the cob. The chicken was very most but cooked through and the BBQ sauce leaned towards being sweet, but it was tasty. My husband and I came here for date night. We waited for an hour for a table and were seated inside close to the bar. That night, the restaurant had a gentleman doing some type of game night with your phones which was interesting and kind of fun. Our waiter was very nice and was on top of things as far as drinks and food. I would have to say the food was super delicious and the fries they served tasted like they were freshly cut and fried in house. My only complaint really is that the beer size I ordered felt like a sample size hence the cup was a mini and not something like a medium cup. This place is so cool! They have so many different kind of beers on tap, and even their own beers. I had their Dunkel, it was really good. The beer menu is up on two big screens and on a tablet which is very cool. You can also get the Jealous Monk in a big boot or stein! I got the house made bratwurst which was really good. Sunday Brunch, delicious, prices are reasonable, environment is friendly, and comfortable. Even though they were busy, and seemed to be short on waitresses they were very pleasant and welcoming. We didn't not feel rushed in any way and the service was very polite and as tentative as they could be. The grilled cornbread was AMAZING, moist and flavorful, the Clove honey was so delicious with just the perfect amount of added sweetness. The Monk Burgers , we're really tender and moist, tasted fresh, the monk sauce definitely added to the flavor of the burger and complimented it well. The only complaint I would say is they did not ask how you wanted your burger cooked , but it was still very good. The eggs Benedict was good, the hollandaise sauce could have been cheesier and a little heavier, but the bacon was perfect. Also home fries contain onions and peppers which I was not expecting when I took a bite, but they were good. But if those flavors are not for you, I would pass on the home fries. The bottomless mamosa's are good, 14$ for unlimited, and you can switch between the 3 flavors. They are not watered down either, very good. I gave the guy my phone number to text me when the table was ready. I didn't receive a text. I kept going up to him and asking him if the table was ready and he said no. After the fourth time, he finally remembered me and said oh I texted you. He showed me the screen and I said you have the wrong phone number that I enunciated very clearly to you. We wasted an hour and a half waiting there. We couldn't stay because we were taking a ferry back to Long Island. The food was ok but not wonderful. We called about reservations and were told to go online and put our name on a list. When we arrived and went to check in they told us that they had to put our name on a list now. The online list didn't matter. We waited almost 2 full hours to be seated but there was no sense in trying to go anywhere else at that time on a Friday night. My daughter ordered a red sangria and it was horrible. I have to say for mystic this place is actually pretty reasonably priced. The food is good and you get a nice healthy portion. Last night my friend and I got the bbq chicken nachos and the Mac and cheese to share. The tray of nachos was ginormous! We barely made a dent in them. They also used kettle chips which I really liked! The Mac and cheese was good but I almost thought it could have used some more salt. Not my favorite, the nachos were definitely better, still again it was a nice portion for the price. I recommend they add more breadcrumbs (; Drinks were a good size for the price as well. And the bartenders were very attentive. I love coming here on a spring/summer night so I can sit outside and play the yard games that they have on the patio. My wife and I are in Mystic for a few days, and stopped at the Olde Mystick Village to walk around and shop. We stopped for lunch at the Jealous Monk and from the quick and great service to the cleanliness of even the outdoor seating I was impressed. It is a beer garden and we took the recommendations from the server and he was on point with the selection for myself and the wife. Finally the food was all homemade and incredibly tasty. My wife loved her Monk Burger, and I would drive up weekly just to get the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich. It was incredibly tasty with perfect sized piece of chicken, sauce, and toppings.
