I had high hopes for Andiamo, but sadly was extremely disappointed. I am new to the Mystic area and seeing that this restaurant rated so highly I was excited to order some takeout with my daughter after moving some things into our new apartment. Ordering was very easy online, even though the prices seemed a bit high. We ordered $109 worth of food...Arancini ($16), garlic bread with cheese($16), Penne al Vodka with sautéed chicken($32), and the Alfredo with chicken cutlet($38). I was expecting a lot for prices like these. The Arancini were 5 pieces the size of golf balls and the flavor was ok, not worth $16, out garlic bread with cheese ($16) was left out of our order, the penne vodka with sautéed chicken ($32) was dry and there were 5 small pieces of chicken, and the baked penne chicken Alfredo had broken sauce, full of grease and almost inedible...I threw out most of it. I expected so much more from this establishment. The parking lot was packed and parking just to get takeout was challenging, but the food and prices were amazingly disappointing. We may try their pizza to see if that is any better, but I would not recommend the pasta dishes. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all since its relatively expensive compared to the diner next door. But this restaurant did not disappoint. The staff was welcoming and we seated quickly. I have younger kids, 4 and 6. I really appreciate it when the restaurant make accommodations for young kids by providing coloring sheets and crayons, definitely helps them pass the time faster since they can grow restless waiting for the food to come out. Very lovely dinner. Our server was engaging and connected with us, was very sensitive about our party's gluten free sensitivity. The restaurant is very classy, perfect for a date night or even a large group the food was outstanding, personally- one of the best pork chops I have ever had, so tender and juicy. The menu is Italian American style. Excellent food prep and presentation. I had the pappardelle bolognese - perfect. The noodles tasted freshly made and cooked al dente, the meat sauce thick and perfectly seasoned. Initially, the portion looked like I could finish it. It's really a lot more than it looks, two people could share it and both would walk away satisfied. My companion had the Seafood Fra Diavolo. Every ingredient was cooked perfectly. No rubbery calamari, chewy shrimp, over or undercooked pasta. Possibly the best one we've ever had in any Italian American restaurant in the United States . My friend and I grabbed take out from Andiamo on a Saturday night. We ordered a couple items to pick up for take out and it was ready in only 20 minutes. We got and shared the SHRIMP SCAMPI and RIGATONI CORSI. The SHRIMP SCAMPI portion was a bit smaller but flavor was tasty and the shrimp was well cooked. The main issue was that it was so greasy. After I finished the item, there was a whole layer of grease on the bottom of the box. The RIGATONI CORSI portion though was huge! Flavor was great and the noodles were perfectly cooked. As always, a warm welcome, great service, and delicious food with crazy large portions! I went with a friend to have a relaxing dinner and catch up on life. We decided we both wanted Italian food so we headed over to Mystic to one of my favorites. We started with two Aperol Spritz from the happy hour menu at $8 each. They were a perfect light refreshment after a few very hot and humid days. We seriously debated the burrata salad,but I already had my mind made up on the chicken parm and knowing it's huge and delicious, I decided to pass. I am gluten free celiac, and our server (Angela) was great in communicating the precautions the kitchen took to ensure that my meal was safe and also the caveats that it is not a gluten free kitchen. I asked for my gf pasta to be cooked al dente and it was perfect! The chicken parm is coated in gf breadcrumbs and is crisped to perfection. My friend ordered the same but with regular pasta. She was amazed at how good the cutlet was. We both chose the vodka sauce over the regular marinara and it was soooo good. I am never big on a lot of sauce, but wanted a bit more for my chicken, especially knowing I would be reheating my leftovers. If I could give Andiamo six stars I would. My sister and I are visiting Mystic for the weekend and this has been the best food we've had here so far. We came on a Saturday night around 8 and it was pretty busy, but they seated us 2 right away. The bar is beautiful and the decor is classy and clean. Our waitress, Paige, came over quickly and she was so sweet! She took our drink order right away and offered us some bread. The bread and butter they provide is hard to stop eating because it is so good, my lord. I ordered a drink (Hugh's ??) with prosecco, gin, lemon, and elderflower - I enjoyed it, a little tart but it was yummy. For food, I got the shrimp scampi. This was some of the best I've had, and I order this plate everywhere. It was so flavorful, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and it was buttery but not too heavy. Divine. My sister ordered spaghetti and meatballs, but without any cheese on top (she has a weird aversion, don't ask lol) and the plate did come out - looking delicious tbh - with cheese. She asked if they could remake it and I was surprised to find no one batted an eye. They brought a new dish out within ~7 minutes, steaming and fresh, and my sister loved it. I think what stood out to me, other than the relaxed vibe and amazing food, was how kind the staff were. After a day of kicking around the Mystic/Stonington area we were the first contestants for dinner on weekday early evening. When I see Cacio e Pepe on a menu I'm immediately drawn in by the allure of what that dish will look like in front of me. Sitting in a red polished booth, looking at the beautifully crafted space, tin ceilings, cool bar... I thought this is a place that can pull off Cacio e Pepe. Well, I was sadly mistaken. No creaminess, not enough cracked pepper, and not enough al dente. The space is awesome and super cool. You can expect Italian American standards. And an entrée order of adult penne with butter was $12 and the container was not even half filled. When I went to pick it up, there was an employee at the takeout counter. I gave them our last name and he turned around and ran away. A minute later, another employee walked up and asked if I'd been helped. I gave our last name again. She handed me the bag and said is this the right order? I should've known when there there's only ONE bag at the takeout, the quality has gone downhill. I am a local. I will never return here again. I finally got an opportunity to try them. They have been opened over a year and all I hear is great things. I came in for dinner on a Monday and it was surprisingly busy for a Monday. We were seated quickly; since there were plenty of empty spaces. Service was great. We tried the Baked Rigatoni al forno and it was delicious. Packed with flavors and plenty of meat. We also tried Seafood Fra Diablo. I will say it was flavorful and had plenty of seafood but only wished it was spicy. This was mild spicy and it's probably done like that on purpose for those that don't like too much spicy. And sauce was a bit watery as I like it thicker. However the flavors were there. I was happy and almost finished it. The place looks amazing. They did a great job with decor. Be mindful it was a bit loud but I don't mind it. They have about 24 seats around the gorgeous bar. Absolutely delicious and a must-go every time we are in the area!! I always get the Vodka Pasta and it never fails in flavor and quality. The rich sauce is served with perfectly cooked penne noodles and crisp pancetta pieces. The portion is usually enough for two meals or just one if I'm really hungry! Inside, the interior is updated yet cozy with warm lighting, soft Italian music, and a comfortable seating layout. Each time we've gone, the service has been nothing short of excellent. When we have had people in our party who have dietary restrictions such as no dairy, the servers are kind and quick to ensure that the meal is exactly as requested. We also love the chicken Parmesan, any of the pizzas, and of course, the complementary bread with olive oil. Came here for the wife's birthday. Such an odd location because we used to go to Friendly's here. It's nice that my teenage son can get a pizza while we get a nice bowl of pasta. The mushroom side was a must. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, the chicken Alfredo was very rich and creamy. The bolognese was meaty and flavorful but adding the mushrooms made it better for sure. My friend and I went to go to lunch there at around noon. The waitress gives me a dinner menu and dinner menu specials. I want lunch it's 12 noon so I asked for a lunch menu and they come over with a lunch menu and then I asked where's your special menu with the sandwiches in the side salad and then he said I don't know about that. I'll have to check on it and then he finally brought it over. I shouldn't have to beg for a lunch menu. You should just give it to us. I was very excited to try Andiamo as it is under the same ownership as Jealous Monk and Taquerio, two of my favorites. Inside the restaurant is beautiful, the wallpaper, bar and decor are lovely and feel very homey. We started off the night with cocktails and mussels. Unfortunately, the espresso martini was broken rather than frothy when ordered with Baileys but without Baileys was much better. We ordered the mussels with the white sauce and were disappointed when our mussels came out and were sandy. I have never ordered steamed mussels and had them be sandy and grainy so this was a first. We had to send them back and our waitress was very kind and understanding. We then got the calamari which was average. As for the pasta dishes, we ordered the chicken piccata and the penne alla vodka (gluten free). The penne alla vodka was fantastic, the pancetta was great and it was overall a great dish. Many restaurants in the area advertise homemade gluten free pasta and the Andiamo does not, although it was still great. The chicken piccata was good as well. The sauce was very oily but great flavor otherwise. The portions were large as well. The staff was great the whole night. read more
