Make no mistake about it, this is a cheap (not price wise hotel bar). The web design team that does the marketing deserves five stars for their ability to make this place look appealing they were out of most things we ordered including wings. How does a hotel bar run out of wings? Burgers were south of awful. If you're staying at the hotel, buy some protein bars and eat in your room. McD's down the street would have been better. Money not well spent. One positive, the beer was cold. But, of course, they were out of my first choice. read more

burger was okay, a bit dry and lacked flavor. fries were nice though! mac and cheese was very plain and the combination of bread crumbs with watered down cheese did not pair as well as we recalled from former trips. while we had stayed at the hilton mystic before and ordered the same dish with lobster, it actually brought us back to the same hotel a year later for more, hoping to recreate the experience! unfortunately, to our disappointment, they did not have any lobster so we went with the standard house mac n' cheese. my fiancée and i had the pleasure of having an attentive server; however, certainly wish they'd had lobster mac and cheese when we went this past weekend. it can be loud in the restaurant earlier on in the evening so i would recommend waiting a bit and returning if it seems too busy! read more

You could sit wherever you'd like inside or under a sun dome. One server was only available. She was very busy. It took a while for another server to come. Anyway, we ordered Tea, Orange Juice, Stuffed French Toast $12 and "The Hilton Classic" $12. I asked for the bacon to be crispy. That's exactly what I got! : ). The Ryebread toast was delicious. The eggs were a perfect temperature. A fruit cup was included. The Stuffed Toast stuffed with apples was very good too!. It took a while for the food to come. At that point, we thought we should've just had the buffet. Anyway, the food was excellent!!! It was worth the wait! The restaurant had approximately three servers. Since COVID, everyplace is in need of more help. By the time we left, there was a long line of people waiting to be seated for breakfast. So come early!!! In the Hilton Mystic you'll find The Irons Restaurant. Every person we encountered in this restaurant was friendly and helpful. Our food was soooo good! Starting with firecracker shrimp with thai slaw and sweet chilli sauce. I could go for thai slaw instead of regular slaw any day. The shrimp were big and fresh. Our dinners - For me short rib grilled cheese the bread had beautiful browning and the short rib so tender. His fish and chips these pieces of were Big, crispy, and nice and white on the inside. I am not a fish eater and normally I would not even try it. This fish was so good I would actually order it myself. Im sure it helped it had a nice crispy batter for the outside. Worst Salmon dinner ever! Ruined 70th birthday dinner celebration. Salmon was white in color and had no flavor at all. Risotto wasn't cooked and was more like rice in a lot of water and no herbs. The one or two spears of Asparagus was sparely spread on top of the risotto. So little asparagus that i failed the asparagus urine test. Only gave meal a one because the firecracker shrimp was good. Scallops appetizer was just average. Daniel did a good job as waiter and tried to steer us to the Short Ribs which had to be better than the salmon. I was craving calamari and this was the first place online that caught my eye, mostly because of the bar pictures online which didn't disappoint. As soon as we stepped in we were greeted by a bartender who said we could sit wherever we'd like. I started off with a fuego margarita, wasn't spicy but it was refreshing. For appetizers I ordered the calamari and it was exactly what I was looking for, very crispy and a hint of tang from the banana peppers, I really enjoyed this. I also ordered the Mediterranean plate which was also amazing. The zucchini had a tangy acidic flavor which still makes my mouth water thinking about it. I recommend, this plate had a lot of goodies, marinated artichokes, olives, hummus and what I think was a Tzatziki dip with naan. For my entree I had a baked stuff seafood. My scallops and shrimp were extremely over cooked and the crab stuffing was not good. I would not order this if you're a seafood lover. My boyfriend also got a smash burger that was burnt and came on white bread when on the menu it specifies all burgers are served on a brioche bun. We ordered truffle fries and a side of regular fries. I liked the fries. The service was great, not too busy on a Wednesday night, the waiter was constantly checking on us and making sure we were doing okay. read more

The Irons is a locally run restaurant that has a terrific menu with nightly specials. Monday is Prime Rib night with a generous portion and a great choice of veggie sides. We came in during Happy Hour and the draft beer selection has $2.00 off (M-F) 4-6PM so that was a plus. You can nosh on one of the Bar Bites if your not too famished or just order off the dinner menu. Either way you won't be disappointed. The draft beer selection has many local breweries along with a full bar. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable of the local area ins and outs. If you're staying in the Mystic Ct. area, stop in to a place with a quiet atmosphere and delicious food. read more

I came in late and sat at the bar. I was literally almost 15 minutes before closing. The bar tender was incredibly friendly. She took my order, let me change my order 3 times (too much I know), and she happily served me. The salad and shrimp were incredibly fresh. I do think my fried shrimp in chili sauce could have cooked 1 more minute so I didn't finish them, but the service over compensated. I know if I ate them downstairs they would have corrected it but I was just so shocked they took a last minute food order at almost midnight. I couldn't dock the score down to 3. Feeling lazy after a day of traveling so I decided to slum it at the hotel restaurant, and 3 of 4 of the other restaurants I was interested in were closed (Monday), so I took it for a sign. ~Just get food~. The clam chowder is clam chowder; I have not complaint or WoW comment. It had more flavor and fresher clams so than canned Progresso. Short Rib Grilled Cheese is legit, although I did have to ask for the natural jus it was supposed to be served with. I would have preferred some richer or more provolone. The fries are crisp and not greasy. Just realized there is not salt or pepper at any table, likely due to COVID. I am glad I didn't drive for dinner tonight but I wouldn't drive here for dinner. If you're in the hotel you can safely fill your gut, get a drink, and be safe all around. They serve a variety of local beers. I only drink local in restaurants, and would rather taste beers I don't like vice drink the same mega batch over and over. I encourage you to do the same. My waitress was "New England nice" which I like. No fluff and you get the truth. Solid three stars. I left content, but one and done for me (unless my laziness settles in again while staying at the Hilton). read more

As hotel bars go, solid. As hotel bars go anywhere near Mystic, very solid. This place is a re-useable space. In the morning they serve a reasonable breakfast buffet here. For most of the day it's a bar/restaurant with an all-day kind of menu that is generally good but, c'mon, to which they must add a lobster roll and clam chowder. Corn bisque is nice and probably good, but if you're passing through you want the local staples. At night it becomes a very good bar, with great service, good bar food, fun people, and a very nice outdoor area with fire pits. Overall, in a nutshell, I'd call it a very solid hotel bar, which is something of a surprise in a somewhat remote area. If you want to eat dinner, go to the Oyster Club in Mystic (my favorite). If you want to eat lunch and it's nice outside, go less than half a mile to the Sea View Snack Shack, just down the street. Otherwise, eat here. And definitely, have a drink here. read more

But I'm leaving one star because of the ONE SINGLE bartender with a packed bar at 10:30pm on a Friday night. Took forever to get a drink, not his fault. And one star because lunch on a Saturday afternoon terribly slow. Took over just about 25 minutes for our soup, yes soup! Why? Less than 15 people in the restaurant at the time as well. With TWO SEPARATE wedding parties this hotel NEEDS more staff. Especially when they book multiple wedding parties on one night. Two bartenders are not enough for 400+ people. This Hilton hotel has two wedding parties they should definitely UP the or staffing to accommodate all of the guests. Beware when booking this hotel to host your guests. Ok so I love the space and the design, appreciate the getaway for the locals. But my biggest gripes that rally make it a thumbs down....when a customer steps up to the bar to pay, don't serve 4 other customers drinks, while I want to pay...it's certainly a bad time for bad service when someone wants to leave and wants to pay. Also...the wine pours....lame, small...say what you want...go to other bars like engine room, Peking Tokyo, bravo etc etc....stop being skimpy. read more

Disappointed this is from the Hilton.. My family and I were visiting the area so decided to get dinner while shopping across the street. We were excited to see lobster rolls and 2 our of the 4 got them, one cold one hot. Being from New England I of course got the cold. Will admit not too bad, not the best but still tasting. It was different tasting, like a lemon based mayo which is odd not a "classic" I was looking for. My aunt got the "lobster Mac and cheese". Please prepare yourself that this it is NOT Mac & Cheese. I will say the waitress did say more like a gravy but really.. don't name it Mac and cheese if it's not Mac and cheese. Any whom, the gravy within this dish was not expected. I'm not too sure what even was it but it honestly tasted like a starch like it had too much flour or something. I don't know but it was a complete disappointment especially with 4 pieces of lobster. My mother ordered the shrimp tacos so we could split it since I do travel around to find a good fish tacos! I just suggest to season the shrimp more, MUCH less blackened, maybe cilantro to give it flavor since there was none and do possibly a spicy aioli sauce! In my opinion do not go here. Save the money, save the frustration go somewhere that serves real seafood. For a traveler that isn't around the area, this just wasn't cutting it. read more

The strip steak (steak frites) ordered medium-rare came out perfectly pink, soft and juicy. Seasoned just right- no need to add salt. The (roasted?) potato wedges with it were tasty as well. Had some of my wife's fries that came with her Grown Ups grilled cheese and they were excellent. Great selection of local and craft beers on tap besides some of the big names. Share the Iron Skillet for dessert unless you have two stomachs. I have to say this was one of my most memorable experiences since I've been part of the yelp community, in the most negative way!! I will start by saying that I am very local and live in the neighborhood and have visited the irons a few times prior to this experience(before becoming an avid yelper), and have had ok experiences. Taking that Into consideration, I am rounding up to a two star review. There was absolutely nothing pleasant about my experience(other than the band "sugar". Which was the reason for our visit) We arrived shortly after 7 and noticed the parking lot was pretty full, and we were diverted across the street to mystic aquarium parking.... no big deal!! Upon walking into the bar area and meeting family that have been sitting at the bar for 30 mins or so, we spent 20 minutes waiting patiently to be greeted by a bartender, server, manager... anyone really!! After making several missed attempts to order a drink at the bar and watching the bartender serve others as they walked in... we then attempted to flag down a host. This took an additional 10 minutes before we were able to make contact and be seated at a round corner table for 5. We did this in hopes of better service(or any service) and we were sadly mistaken. After an additional 15 minutes(mind you we were only trying to have a cocktail before seeing an outdoor concert) and we knew what we wanted over 30 minutes ago. A member of our group finally decided to approach a staff member near a register to express how long we have been waiting. We honestly would have left if food hadn't been ordered more than 45 minutes prior. When we finally connected with a waitress she was nice and explained how busy everyone was for the event. We understood this would be a busy evening, but not one acknowledgement from any staff member is unacceptable! I have to been to plenty of "busy" restaurants or events and have never experienced this poor level of service, or lack there of. I can honestly say, we will not return!!!! read more

My boyfriend and I were staying at the Hilton Mystic and decided to give The Irons a try! The ambiance was very nice and the food was delicious! I had the andouille chowder and he had the prime rib sandwich with fries! All three were awesome! We ate at the bar and the gentleman bartender who was there was very lovely. He went out of his way to get fresh lime juice for our margaritas and make them from scratch. Later, we came back and checked out the nice outside fire pit area . We stayed at the Hilton on a rainy in December. We had come to town for the seaport evening candlelight tour that was cancelled due to weather. Instead of running restaurant to restaurant in the rain to find a place that catered to food allergies, we decided to try the hotel restaurant. Our server was wonderful, the kitchen was excellent! They cut everything fresh for me to ensure no cross contamination. I had a salad that was incredible, one of the best I have had anywhere and was huge. I told my husband this was definitely a place for us to eat in the future. It's always hard with a seafood allergy when traveling to a coastal town and I felt like a normal human being that night. read more
