Searching for a good, casual place to eat and enjoy a beer while visiting Mystic village, I was baffled by the varying reviews and hesitant to try this place. It was super crowded inside and eating out side in cold temps was not appealing, unless perhaps seated at one of outdoor dining tables with fire pit---or "igloo". We put ourseles on 1.5 plus hour waiting list while shopping and otherwise occupying ourselves. Arrived with still 20 plus minutes...so went inside to grab some Hofbrau's. We seated ourselves indoors at window area and awaitress came by and took our food orders. Perfection!!! Goulash served was a most tasty generous portion served atop mashed pots---not at all how I would serve nor have had---but it was so good and warming and filling! Corn bread was super, better than I have had in any BBQ or Southern specialty joints. (Last visited 3/21/2021.) Hanging out in Mystic for the weekend and it's a perfect Sunday for a boozy brunch! We did our usual Yelp searching and found this place with an excellent rating! What could go wrong?! Quite a few things actually... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in the gigantic parking lot of a plaza is this gem. It looks like a really big version of a "normal" house. There's plenty of outdoor seating and plenty of indoor as well. The space is wide open with high ceilings, lots of wood and long dining room-style tables in which you could possibly share a meal with a stranger! I actually like that aspect of a dining experience with the potential to meet new people! The atmosphere was fun, lively and comfortable. Service: Here's where things begin to go down hill. Upon walking into the restaurant it took us a very long time to be greeted and taken to our seat. Alright, that's fine. Dave was our server and he just seemed overwhelmed. Honestly, all the staff did. None of the staff really looked happy or like they were having a good time. Yes, we understand that staff shortages are a real thing and that people were starting to make their way back out into the world "post-COVID". So we were patient. So we got started with our "bottomless" mimosas and I use that term loosely because they're not actually bottomless. We did appreciate the fact that the bartenders would honor our no ice (yes, their mimosas are typically served in wine glasses with ice) and light juice for sure. So, I could be nit-picking, but this is my experience so... listen up. My lady and I... we love bottomless brunches. We can HHHAAANNNGGG. We'll have 10-12 mimosas a piece then stay for happy hour without a problem. So, it's 1:50pm and we know the mimosas stop at 2:00pm. So we ask for another round (mind you, we've only had 7 mimosas a piece) and Dave gruffs and tells us we've been cut off. Now the whole mood of the day changes. Cut off?! For what? Dave was a nice guy, but his whole demeanor changed. Like, he got defensive BEFORE telling us we were cut off... like he know how we'd react. So... he says we're cutoff to prevent "overserving". Man, what? I asked him, was I slurring my words? Acting out? Acting belligerent? He said, no, but that he had rules to follow. So... where was the line drawn? Seven mimosas? Is that the line? Is that when the inner demons come out of people? Does that go for everyone? DON'T PLASTER THE WORDS BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS all over your menus and décor if they aren't bottomless. Period. NEVER in my years of brunching have I been cut off to prevent "overserving". If people are throwing up and acting all crazy, by all means, cut them off, but we were chillin', trying to support the local business and we got cut off. Granted, 7 mimosas and only 10 minutes before they were supposed to stop... I don't care. I'm sure it won't be everyone's experience, but just a heads up if y'all brunch like I do... Moving on... Food: Continuing the downward spiral, the food was bland. I ordered the Cast Iron Frittata which is a fluffy baked frittata with peppers, onions, bacon, chives, cream cheese and served with toast on the side. It was so bland. It needed salt, seasoning, something. Just didn't have any flavor and was boring. That's why we enjoyed the mimosas so much! *Sigh*. Value: My frittata was only $14.00. The base price for the bottomless mimosas was $14.00 with $0.05 for each refill. In conclusion, I won't be returning and I hate writing reviews like this, but this was my experience. Funny thing, I even looked on their menu at the time of writing this and I no longer seen the "bottomless mimosas" option listed on their menu. Hmm... maybe others did have a similar situation as me? I want to start off by saying that this is my type of place. Great beer menu and pub food. I wish I could have rated this a 1.5. The Pro's: I tried my daughter's mac and cheese, that was really good. My wife enjoyed the cornbread (not something I like, so I will take her word). The support staff was great, the food expo guy was pleasant and happily provided us with silverware our waitress did not, also the host staff was accommodating and pleasant. Good seasonal beer list. The Con's: The restaurant was out of bone in wings, which I was hoping to order for my entree, I didn't find out until ordering. A heads up would have been great, I had no plan b on what to have. Prior to finding out they were out of wings I asked what the dry rub was. The waitress tried to explain what seasons was to me. I explained I know what seasoning is, I was wondering the flavor of it. She had no clue. Overall the service was poor. The waitress was a bit scattered and seemed unfamiliar with quite a bit. Maybe new? I split the buffalo chicken rangoons with my wife. They were slimy, not moist or pleasant, actually slimy. For my entree I settled for a Caesar salad. Brown, slimy, gross lettuce. To top it off a bug was found in my daughter's drink with no apology. We put are name on a waiting list, was asked if we wanted inside or outside. 15 mins later they take us to a table in the sun, I walk back to her and ask if we can sit in the shade at an empty table. She begins to argue with me, telling me that I should've got my name on the shade list. I said there was no shade list. you ask inside or out, not sun or shade. Continues to argue with me saying there's a 25 minute wait, what am I supposed to bump everybody else. She then says theres a clean table go sit there. (Very Rude) 10 minutes later, the same "Hostess" moves a table from the sun to the table next to us (in the shade). And says it's OK. I'm ahead of my list. So in other words, she had a power trip, and she took it out on me. Needless to say, just left a very bad taste in my mouth so my food maybe was good... Mind you the last time we were here, we were seated and waited 25 minutes for a server and walked out. So, therefore, this place gets one star because of bad customer service. read more

The inside was nice and spacious, but very dark. I ordered the Monk Chicken Schnitzel with a side caesar instead of fries. The schnitzel is topped with Swiss Cheese, Grilled Onions and Peppers, Chipotle Aioli...it was the soggiest sandwich that I've had in a really long time. I honestly couldn't even eat the bottom bun and tried to eat the chicken with a knife and fork, but the chicken was pretty poor quality. So, even though I ordered just a side caesar salad and was not counting on the side of fries, I was happy because that's really all that I nibbled on during dinner. Enjoyed my visit here yesterday. I wanted to try Mangos Pizza but I got overruled by others in my group. It worked out for the best anyways since they had both a great menu and even better draft Beer selection. Merrily jumped in on a flight of brews, 5oz each, before fixating on the Hells Lager and ordering a full pint of that. Went with the pulled pork sandwich which was not only piled high (no skimming here) but had just enough tanginess to stand up at any other BBQ joint. We also had a Mediterranean chicken wrap and an oversized Pretzel. The fries that came with the meals were also those thick pub fries which always go well with a couple of golden brews. Extra points for having multiple lager AND Pilsner choices as opposed to to the usually (and annoying array) of IPAs that I often see in a lot of Rhode Island eateries. Staff here was top notch, waitress attended to all our needs. Definitely a good place to grab lunch either after the Mystic Aquarium or if you're walking around the shops there. read more

Walked in to this restaurant for lunch around noon and there were no seating left for 4 except for at the bar and outside by the fires in the cold. We happily took the bar seating and the service was amazingly quick. We ordered some beers, two bowls of clam chowder, 2 bratwurst sandwiches, a cod sandwich and a burger. The beers (they had great variety) came out super quick and the bowls of clam chowder came out even quicker! Everyone was friendly and came to check up on us multiple times throughout the meal. The bartender waited to put in our mains as he didn't want it to come out while we were still sharing bowls of soup which was much appreciated. After the soup was done, we got our sandwiches and burger within 10 min. The only reason I'm docking a star is because all our breads fell apart so some of us ate with a knife and fork. I think if they toasted/grilled the bread, it would've stayed together better. When we were leaving around 1:30 there were 45 min waits to get seated so we just beat the rush! I tried a couple of half pours! 1911 Black Cherry was a favorite and the Jealous Monk blueberry hard seltzer. We also ordered some Buffalo wings to enjoy too! First stop on a mkni vacation for my friend and I, and we were both glad to start our trip with such a great restaurant. Over 32 beers on tap, expansive menu, and great staff. To start I order myself a cup of the calm chowder and my friend got the corn bread. The calm chowder was pretty tasty overall, would get again. Per my friend, the corn bread was was really good, not too sweet with the honey, which is a big plus. For food, I had the chicken schnitzel sandwich, and that was absolutely, positively mouth watering. Very flavorful, the schnitzel was so crunchy and crispy, and the fries were crispy but soft, also good. My friend had the cubano, and her opinion on it is: was really good as well, she liked that it was on naan rather than a roll, that it made it tastier. We also had a few of the beers as a flight, and love the different options that were available. Definitely would recommend coming here (will be back again before leaving for home tomorrow). read more

What an awesome way to ring in the new year! It was like being on the set of a movie with all of the Christmas lights, the roaring fire pit with shiny red chairs and...wait for it...our very own heated igloo nestled in beautiful Olde Mistick Village. Five stars alone for that experience on New Year's Eve. Fun fact- locally owned and operated, Jealous Monk is Mystic's only beer garden. We had a party of four and had emailed a couple of weeks earlier to see if we would be able to score one of the igloos. Thankfully, we got one! Here's the scoop on the igloos: email in advance to check availability. You can reserve an igloo for 4 - 8 people. There is a small deposit ($50) to hold it. That $50 will go towards your bill that night. For each person in the party, they have to spend a minimum of $75 per person on food/drink. If you don't hit that, the remainder will be purchased as a gift card that you can use for a future visit. Also, you have two hours in terms of time. All of this is totally fair and I will definitely be going back to use the gift card because the food and service were great! We started with drinks--so many beers to choose from! Beer lovers- they got you! 32 constantly changing craft beers on tap. Nice! There are also signature drinks that are pretty awesome and come in really tall glasses. Very fun. We tried the Ginger Monk- Real McCoy 3 year single blended rum, ginger beer and fresh lime and the Very Superstitious- Tito's, Aperol, cranberry simple and bubbles. Both were great. No joke, I think we ordered every appetizer on the menu besides the clam chowder. We even ordered another round of Buffalo Crab Rangoons because they were that good! That was a special, I think. So if you see them pop up again- do it! The Charcuterie Pretzel, Belgian Frites, Boneless Monk Wings, Griddled Cornbread and the Big A Pretzel were all top of the line. I love warm pretzels with beer cheese and this one was pretty top notch! The Charcuterie Pretzel and Belgian Frites (Poutine style with Truffled Frites) were out of this world. I'm getting really hungry now writing about all of this. We were having so much fun and laughing so hard that time just flew by. We did also manage to order the Tableside S'mores kit though. That was a really awesome way to end our NYE dining adventure. Our server Trisha was awesome! It felt like she was an old friend that kept popping in to say hello and check on us. I love that style in a server. She was the perfect party host. Everything was on point and super chill. Overall, with the 2020 we had, I could not have had asked for a better season finale. My family from PA was in town and wanted to see Old Mystic Village. We had no idea of where to eat and stumbled into this place and it was fantastic. Once the Patriots fans left we were able to get seated and peruse their list of 32 beers. Our server was very nice and left us with an ipad with the beer list. She also graciously brought samples. For appetizers we ordered the meatballs and the giant pretzel, both were really good. I had the white sangria. It wasn't as sweet as I'd like it but not bad. I also tried a hard cider with a maple flavor that was excellent. Two of us got the fish and chips and it was some of the best I've had. The fries aren't regular fries they are Belgium frittes and the fish was impeccably fresh haddock. My other cousin ordered the sausage plate and loved it. All the plates that came out around us looked great. The place was nicely decorated for the holidays. There are games in the back and a separate game room which I did not go in to. A long bar. There are a few smaller tables but for the most part it's long community tables that are all high top. All in all we spent about 2.5 hours here. I am not sure where to begin with this review........ I guess I should start by saying it's a beer garden/beer hall, with 32 beers on tap indoor and outdoor. The beers they are able to get are not your average style of beer that you can stop at any street corner and get. I constantly here that craft beers and pubs that sell the fancier beers, an especially this location, the beers are too "pricey"....With that being said, yes you will find jealous monk has some beers on tap that are 10-12$, but it's another classic case of you get what you pay for. What some people don't realize is the amount of money and time that goes into these style of beers, also take a look at the abv on the more expensive beers versus your 4-5$ beer. You'll see that your getting a much stronger beer for your money and usually something with all kinds of different tastes, and aromas. In my opinion the monk has also made extra effort to appeal to all, by offering two happy hours, and also offering wines. They also offer a Lot of local brews, which is something i support as well. The food is equally as good as the quality of beer, I literally haven't had a bad item and I've tried just about the whole menu. The staff is great, and victor is always pleasant and beyond knowledgeable in the craft beer world. The monk is known for their gigantic selection of beer from around the world along with their communal beer garden style dining, but now I'm totally addicted to their Sunday brunch with phenomenal offerings and MOST importantly their bottomless mimosas. We shared an order of their griddled corn bread, which was to die for. I had the eggs Benedict, which was perfect. My favorite part was definitely the mimosas, of which you are able to switch up the type of juice such as orange, pineapple, cranberry, or grapefruit. Was looking for a small bite before a show. Based on the great reviews, we were excited to try this place out. I was sadly disappointed. The place has a laid back atmosphere with a very relaxed environment with an outdoor bar/seating that includes cornhole (very nice option). That was about it for the good. We sat inside at the bar so we could see the draft menu - you have to order everything at the bar regardless of where you sat. Not the friendliest option. Onto everything else - there wasn't much for ciders, so I opted for a white sangria. It was ok. My bf got a flight of 3 beers - we didn't realize we'd be paying the price for a dinner! One of his 4oz beers was $7! He didn't really care for any of them either. Maybe we should've paid attention to the fine print, but that's craziness! We ordered the Monk nachos with chili on the side and a sausage flight. Umm yea, no. The nachos were some of the saddest nachos I've seen, they tasted bland and stale and the sausage flight, not sure if it was a flight as they all tasted exactly the same. We stopped here on our way between Cape Cod and New Jersey. Very easy to access from 95 in both directions. There was plenty of outdoor seating (a must for us right now with Covid). The menu is great- lots of traditional American food with some interesting twists. I got the Schnitzel sandwich which was delicious. They have a good kids menu as well. We didn't have any beer but they have a ton on tap! Stopped here on my way back from NYC yesterday and figured I give it shot. Didn't feel like the Steak Loft or going downtown so I popped in. Very impressive selection of beers which one would expect from a place that says Beer Hall on the outside. I liked the way they were listed on screens above the bar. What disappointed me was the food. Not a very extensive selection and again I was expected the French Kitchen but it was limited. I selected the Chicken Vol Ne Vent (chicken pie basically) because that is my go to food in pubs. It had a unique taste compared to most the filo dough was to think and a little tough.
