We ordered from here through DoorDash one weekend for a late night meal and it was exactly what we needed. We kept it simple and ordered the nachos and a burrito. The nachos ended up being the star of the night. They were loaded, flavorful, and very satisfying. There was plenty of food and they were more than enough for both of us to share. My husband ordered the burrito and finished it pretty quickly because it was on the smaller side. After that we both ended up just sharing the nachos and we were completely full. Since this was a delivery order I cannot speak to the dine in atmosphere or service, but the food was packaged really well and everything arrived intact and still fresh. Nothing was soggy and the portions held up well for delivery, which I always appreciate. The nachos were definitely the highlight and something I would absolutely order again. Next time I would actually love to stop in during the day and try it in person so we can explore more of the menu. read more

I ate here the other day so figured I'd leave a review. First impression when I walked in was wow - this place is empty. It was clean, the staff responded quickly to me, but I was the only person at lunchtime on the restaurant side, and there were only two people on the bar side. Despite that it was loud. They need sound attenuation, My server was prompt, and freely shared her menu favorites when I asked. Sadly I'm not really a mole fan, her recommendation, but did try the enchiladas divorciadas. First the chips and salsa... the salsa was basically puréed tomatoes. No heat at all. Just some salt. I asked for something spicier and the server found me some habanero salsa. That was tasty, but it probably had very little habanero in it. Again, no better than a low-med heat. I grew up across the southwest so to me that was disappointing. The enchiladas? I really wanted to like this place but honestly? It was unseasoned boiled and shredded chicken, wrapped in a raw / untoasted tortilla. And drowned in some that was not enchilada sauce. The red sauce tasted like tomato sauce. I'm used to red sauce being pepper based. The spicier and more roasted the better. No pepper discernible. The green sauce tasted like it had a hint of green Chiles but mostly tomatillo. Also boring but better than the red. Neither was good. I ate it, I was hungry and it wasn't greasy, but... this was a midwestern spice-hating simulacrum of an enchilada. No bueno, demasiada aburrida. So to sum it up; decent but slightly loud facility, wonderful server, and I would say forgettable food but the reality is it was unforgettably boring. read more

Stayed across the street at the Marriott and found this spot. 10/10. Got the cantina wedge salad two days in a row because it was so good. We also got the Ribeye Chicharron and that was fire too. Only photo from today's brunch- while the food was good, not great, this restaurant is extremely under staffed. The same employee who greeted us and handed us menus to seat ourselves, was the same employee serving, bussing, bartending, and cooking the food. 1/2 of the cocktails received was completely wrong & some items from the order were not delivered until half way through the meal, waters never refilled. This place is tucked away behind the Starbucks at Price & Willis. They have a dining room and another room adjacent with bar seating and TVs to watch sports. There is limited alcohol with the exception of tequila... For obvious reasons. They have a good menu with great options. Jefe's lunch/dinner menu is very taco centric. You can have combination plates or do à la cart. I tried the Korean taco with Bulgogi, Ancho Chile Shrimp Taco, and a Birria taco. The tacos were great and so was my Paloma . The Micheladas were good and so was the Carne Asada burrito. I will definitely be back our bartender/server was awesome. The ambience is casual. They also do takeout orders. read more

Was very disappointed. The pictures of the food on Yelp do not match what you get at the restaurant. Beware. We came in from out of town and were looking for some good Mexican food. This was a bad choice. The food came out lukewarm at best. My order was missing several of the toppings that were supposed to be included. This review is strictly based on a take out order. We ordered for a work meeting and I did ask for the food to be ready at a specific time. It was ready when I arrived. I work right down the street so it was less than a 5 minute drive. When I took the food out of the bags it was barely warm.. on the verge of room temperature. Everyone shared that sentiment as well. What was ordered was the mini birra chimi's, chicken mole, munchies burrito and a korean taco, ancho shrimp taco and chips and queso. Aside from the temperature of the food, everyone said their food was delicious. I personally got the tacos, and the chips and queso. The tacos were smaller than I expected. Someone's review said the taco's were good sized, I disagree. The shrimp taco was $6.50 and the Korean taco was $5.50. The shrimp taco was shrimp, cilantro and melted cheese (think birria style but with shrimp and no consume). I think there may have been 3-4 small shrimp in the taco. The Korean taco was bulgoli beef, cabbage and a chipotle aioli. Flavor for both was good. Would have been better hot. The cheese on the shrimp taco was already at the point where it hardened after its melted. So again, would have been better hot. The chips and queso are good as well. The queso was room temperature but tasty. Their chips however are really good. Perfect amount of salt and tastes homemade. With all that being said, I personally feel this food would be best eaten there. Hot and fresh. Takeout it just missed the mark but that was our choice to order takeout. The burrito was $14 and I feel was completely fair. That thing was massive and plentiful. I would have gotten two meals out of it. The chicken mole was $19 and came with beans and rice. The mini chimis were 4 chimi and topped with lettuce, pico and cheese with a side of consume for $12. My two tacos came out to be $12 and the amount of food I got for $12 and the amount of food that came in that burrito for $14 was drastic. I think the taco are pricey for the amount of food you get. The chips and queso were $6. I would eat here again but not takeout, especially for the cost. The service was friendly. They had my order ready at the time requested. I'd say this place is a solid 3.5/5 stars, specifically for options! Wanted to try a new taco spot for my favorite day of the week, taco Tuesday. Jefe's had good reviews and what sold me was the bulgogi burrito and taco options. That is a fushion I cannot resist! I ended up ordering the 3 taco combo: carne asada, pollo and pastor, plus the bulgogi burrito. Starting with the tacos, it came with sonoran guac, rice, beans and I ordered salsa verde and rojo. The tacos are street taco sized and of course opted for onion and cilantro. Out of the three, pastor was my fav. The protein was juicy and well flavored. I found the carne asada to be a bit salt forward and the pollo was a tad on the dry side. As for the burrito, I wish there was more bulgogi flavor and then maybe kimchi or some more acidity/spice to really pack a punch. I think they're on to something and this could be a big hit, but definitely expecting more flavor from bulgogi. Overall, I would try this place again. read more

Man, I still love these burritos. Their Carne Asada tastes great and their green sauce is still amazing. But sometimes you just get a grease sponge literally. See the video and pictures. You have to wrap napkins around the tortilla cause your hands will literally be coated. Ok, we have eaten Mexican food in lots of town and cities across America. Chips and salsa is a staple. Not at this place, you have to pay for them. Food was good, not exceptional. Wait staff seemed confused. Way too many standing around with nothing to do. After we were served our waiter sat at table with a lap-top and phone and continued to do whatever. We had to ask for a to-go box and our check. He never got up. Had one of the other young man bring our box and check. You should always take care of YOUR customers especially when they are done and especially when you are sitting approx. 6 ft from them. I gave these guys another shot and it wasn't good. The girl behind the counter didn't seem all that interested in being there, which was a bit off-putting. It's funny to me how businesses forget that customer experience is just as important as the food that they serve. It wasn't busy, as there were only 2 other people sitting at the bar. Maybe she was just having a bad day. I don't know. I ordered a Carne Asada Burrito with an order of Fries. The fries came out piping hot, but they were of the battered variety and that's an instant turnoff for me. Meh, I can get past that though. You do get a large amount fries for $6, but it was way more than I could eat. The biggest problem that I had was with the Carne Asada Burrito. First, it was cold. I'm assuming that they made the burrito first and then dropped the order of fries in the fryer. Second, the meat they are using for the Carne Asada is questionable. Aside from being cold, it was very rubbery/chewy with what seemed like gristle in it. The sound of your teeth gnashing into gristle... It's safe to say that I won't be returning to Jefe's Cantina based on the 2 times I've been there. Considering their location, they've got a prime spot that may keep them open longer than they should be. Maybe the quality of their food and service will improve? Whose to say? [3.5 STARS] I was staying in the Marriott across the street and wanted something filling to eat. I found Jefe's on Google Review and Yelp. I walked on over and the interior was cute. It was pretty crowded during lunch hour ~12:45pm on a Wednesday. Service was about a 10-15 minute wait for take out, which isn't that bad. I ordered two tacos for $10.81: One Korean taco and one birria taco. I also requested salsa verde. I was quite disappointed: the beef in the Korean taco was really dry and the sauce did nothing to help it out flavor-wise or moisture-wise. However the tortilla was solid. The birria taco was seasoned perfectly with a lot of depth, but it was so soggy the taco completely fell apart as I ate it... Talk about inconsistency in tortilla shells. Worst of all, the tacos came with chips but the salsa verde wasn't there in the takeaway bag. I was not going to go back in the 112°F weather just for salsa. I would maybe give it another chance if I'm craving tacos again in the area and I'm short on time. read more

Sorry but I had high hopes for this place. Very cute when you walk-in but the food isn't as good as the place looks. I got the surf and turf burrito. It was pretty flavorless. The steak was very bland and chewy. The shrimp were bland as well. It's like they forgot the seasoning. My wife got a steak taco and a couple fish tacos. Her comment was they were ok but not somewhere she'd go back. Also that for $5 per taco you don't get a lot. Maybe there's a reason they're under new management. Checked out Jefes Cantina on a lunch break. The place has a nice and modern vibe to it and lots of seating. We ordered and the food was brought in a reasonable amount of time. I got a carne asada, chicken, and a pork tacos to try. It also came with rice, beans, and a tasty guac sauce. It was all pretty good but honestly, I thought the rice and beans were the most flavorful parts. They just had a lot of flavor and were very tasty! The tacos were good but just didn't have nearly as much flavor as the sides. At something like $4 per taco I'd say they are a little pricey, but maybe that's just the new normal for 2023? Either way I'll probably be back again on a lunch break sometime to try a burrito. read more

Restaurant informs me that their printer is down so they have to just make the orders when the people walk in. Ok- so why do I receive a notification that they're already making the order if they don't even know it exists? However, I sat right behind you, at the bar when you attended this location. You said nothing, and only smiled/joked to the same bartender whom you stated was "missing", yet he was able to be seen clearly no more than 10 feet from your table, which was next to the bar. If you have an issue with a business, felt that you were overcharged, etc. maybe next time bring it up directly with said business or the person servicing you rather than attempting to ruin their reputation with a bad review. Mention about things they could improve upon, rather than knock your experience because he/she didn't attend to your every need like a 5 Star restaurant. In addition, please be completely truthful about your order. Especially if you customize various parts of a standard item on the menu. So this place was clean and our server was kind and friendly. We were seated quickly in the family area (no tvs) and given menus. We selected the chips trio and was good. You get to select three kinds of things for your chips ( a guac and salsa and cheese dip option). I ordered the mole chicken which was a solid 4 stars ( chicken breast was a little dry). My wife ordered the carne asada tacos which she said were good. My daughter had the ahi tuna w rice and beans. The tuna was good but the rice was just ok. So we've been going to Jefe's Cantina since they opened and I planned on ordering birria, as usual, but last night, shocked me! They had a sushi menu They explained that they have three other restaurants and get shipments of fish almost every day and decided to put a new twist on their offerings. Boy was I impressed! I ordered the salmon sashimi, and it was artfully presented in a leaf platter and included five very tender and large pieces of salmon sashimi. We had a chance to talk with the owner to get the background story. He then recommended that we try the Tajin Roll and the El Jefe roll. Both were very good, but the El Jefe roll with eel sauce was our favorite between the two. He said they were thinking of offering sake. Some of the new menu items were Mexican rolls, they sounded interesting until I found out they were fried. I can't wait to go back! read more

We were craving Mexican food and found this hidden gem that recently opened on the west side of chandler off Price rd, I have been to other locations in the past and this one doesn't disappoint, super clean place, good vibes, has two different sides, one more family restaurant and the other more of a bar vibes. Both were super nice and I truly enjoyed all the different music hits they were playing, something about knowing every song makes me feel at home. The food is very flavorful and definitely takes you back to Mexico so mission accomplished . The service was outstanding, everyone was so nice and happy to be there. I truly appreciate customer services so we will be back soon for more treats! My daughter enjoyed the birria ramen and she absolutely loved it! I had a shrimp appetizer, and tried birria and shrimp tacos, to top it off we had strawberries and cream and some ice cream churros. Was a total cheat day and very well worth it! I'm not sure what to even say. Our family of three went for tacos. We ordered a 4 taco plate and two 9 taco plates. My husband's 4 taco plate came out. Then a 9 taco plate came out with carnitas. I had ordered carne asada. I sent it back they brought it back and tried to say it was carne asada. I said no it wasn't. They brought it out again (same plate, it was dried out and didn't look good) finally 20 minutes later my carne asada came out. We still didn't have my son's food. When his came out it was the same carnitas, we told our son to just eat it. We paid full price for one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. read more
