    Spicy shrimp ceviche

I'm writing this review in the hope that it helps both the restaurant and future guests. We used to come to Thirsty Lion often when it first opened near us, but over time our visits became less frequent. Some of that was changing tastes, some boredom with the menu and atmosphere, and some inconsistency in service. We still stop in a few times a year to mix things up because the cocktails are usually very good. Tonight started with a 20-25 minute wait for a table, so we grabbed seats at the bar. Right away, there was a strong odor that came and went throughout the time we were sitting there. The best way I can describe it was a mix of manure and bleach. It was unpleasant enough that it distracted from the experience. I'm not sure what the source was, but it definitely seemed like something behind the bar needed attention. We ordered two cocktails and two appetizers. The Grapefruit Basil Martini and Strawberry Mezcal Margarita were both excellent--fresh, flavorful, and well balanced. Unfortunately, our appetizers still hadn't arrived by the time our table was ready about 30 minutes later, so they were brought to us after we were seated. The Spicy Shrimp Ceviche was pretty good overall, though a little sweeter than I prefer. The grilled artichokes, however, were a major disappointment. They appeared dry and overaged, and seemed like they had been cut in half and placed directly on the grill without being properly steamed first. The leaves were tough and hard to eat, even toward the center where they should be tender. The heart was crunchy like a raw carrot. If you know artichokes, you know this preparation missed the mark completely. Once seated, we ordered another round of drinks. They were out of strawberry purée, so I switched to a Blood Orange Margarita with mezcal instead of tequila and Tajín on the rim. Honestly, it may have been even better than the first drink. My wife ordered the Cucumber Rosemary Gin & Tonic, which was also refreshing and delicious. Later, I ordered the same blood orange margarita again, but was brought something closer to the strawberry version with blood orange substituted. Still good, just not what I ordered. Our server, Carissa, was friendly and kind, but she seemed stretched thin with too many tables. Overall, the night was average. For me, first impressions matter, and the odor at the bar set the tone in a negative way from the start. It didn't ruin the evening, but it felt like one disappointment led to another. That said, I still recommend Thirsty Lion for their cocktails, and the food is usually solid. I'm sharing this because I think with a little more attention to details--cleanliness, consistency, and kitchen execution--it could be a much better experience.

I gave it a 4 based on the service. My waitress was super nice and very attentive. We were greeted right as we walked in. Asked how food was after a reasonable time. Music was at good level. The pizza was good. The burger lacked something, maybe a sauce....? The lettuce on burger kinda ruined it, jalapeños were nice and spicy, and guacamole was good. Medium rare was done perfectly. Molten lava cake should always come with side of ice cream, my personal opinion!! But this one came with whip cream and raspberry drizzle. Vanilla bean ice cream was great, served in cold bowl. Nice touch The water is very much tap, so I did get a soda -coke products- but I am picky lol Food was 3/5. Dessert 3.9/5

Greeted by a great smiling hosted . Our server was super helpful and came right away to our table. She told us about happy hour and specials. Wow when I ask for recommendations she had a list with details. I had a hibiscus basil lemonade it was perfect not too sweet. We had a Bbq shrimp wraps on a bed of slaw. It was very good. I had king power chicken w veggies it was really good fresh crunchy veggies. It wasn't spicy just full of flavor. My husband had a French Fip with fries. He loved the horseradish sauce and said it was a very tasty sandwich. He would definitely get it again. The fries were great . We will be back. Highly recommend all fresh food made there. Great service, fun Christmas decorations and clean !

Love you that this place is close to all my spots that I run errands. Thirsty Lion has a great Happy Hour and great seasonal menus. Andrea was our bar tender/ server. We sat at the bar and had a shot to kick off Happy Hour. We ordered their sliders, crispy chicken sliders and tacos. The food was fabulous and great portions. I try to control my portions and Happy Hour is the way to do it. I don't have the self-control to put half of my meal in a to go box. I will probably eat it on the way home ha ha ha. I would definitely go back great service, food and drinks.

We sat at one of the big outdoor booths and got the Classic Reuben along with some happy hour sides and beers, everything was great! Sami our server was on top of everything. Will be back soon!

Maryssa was awesome! Had a wonderful Father's Day Lunch. She was absolutely incredible. Astonishing Service, exquisite food and surrounded by the most lovely people. Could not recommend this experience enough 11 out of 10 Maryssa you deserve a raise!

Came to Thirsty Lion for brunch and had a pretty solid experience overall. First off get the Hibiscus Basil Lemonade. Seriously. It's refreshing, flavorful, and totally hit the spot. Easily one of the highlights of the meal. We also tried the cheese nacho dip, and it was finger-licking good. Cheesy, rich, and perfect for sharing I'd come back for that alone. Now, the spicy chicken sandwich? Meh. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not something I'd order again. Lacked flavor and didn't really stand out. The vibe here is chill and casual, a good spot to catch up with friends. Service was okay not bad, but nothing particularly memorable. All in all, worth a visit for brunch, especially for the drinks and apps.

Came with friends after going to the movies. I had made a reservation but we were about 20 minutes late and everything there didn't miss a beat! They allowed us to choose where to sit (they were filling up!) and we ended up in Ethan's station. He came over, introduced himself and asked about questions we had and took drink orders. Wife had a Four Peaks Arizona Peach brew and said she loved it. It wasn't hoppy and had a nice faint peach flavor to it. They have their Spring Seasonal Menu out along with their normal menu and there were some great options on it. I ended up getting the French Dip which which full of tender, sliced roast beef, caramelized onions, and provolone cheese. The au jus was spot on and flavorful and I love the horseradish cream sauce they add. Tops off the whole sandwich which is served on a ciabatta roll. Wife had her favorite Gastropub Burger which is infused with blue cheese, served with caramelized onions, bacon, cheese, arugula and of course smeared with that wonderful horseradish sauce they make. It's also served on a ciabatta roll and both dishes came with French fries, which we always ask to have extra crispy. Couldn't end without dessert and we ordered the Southern Peach Crumble that also had vanilla ice cream. It was decadent, rich, and done perfectly...the peaches are cooked with a cinnamon glaze to create these wonderful, sweet chunks! Overall a great meal...our friends all enjoyed theirs as well. Thanks Ethan for a great meal!

My wife and I were very pleased with our food flavor and ticket time. KYLIE was great. She has an awesome personality...good job if you hired her. The Ambiance was good. Nice job team Chandler for hitting it out of the park. The restrooms were clean also.

    Tuscan Romano Herb Crusted Chicken

It was my first time at this location, been to the Tempe one many years ago. I went with 5 others and we got a table immediately. Our server was great and attentive but she did also have other tables and one looked to be about 15 people. So that did cause her to be delayed in taking our order and getting our check. No biggie we were in no rush. The queso appetizers was delicious but the consistency was super thick. I would order it again however. I ordered Tuscan Romano Chicken which was a panko crusted chicken breast that sat on garlic noodles and had a side of veggies. The chicken was topped with diced tomatoes and basil. The menu said the tomatoes were balsamic roasted but they most certainly were not. There was also a herb sauce on the chicken and noodles. It seemed butter based and I could take lemon too. The sauce was delicious! The whole dish was tasty. I did get a couple of bites that had red chili flakes in it. That was unexpected. Doesn't seem to fit this dish and maybe it wasn't supposed to be there because it wasn't used as a garnish like it is usually used. My friend got Kung Pao Chicken. It looked amazing but I saw red chilis in it which for me is a no because I don't like spicy food. She swore it wasn't spicy so I tried it and WOW delicious! The chilis did nothing for this dish and there was no spice at all. I would definitely order this if I returned. Everyone else seemed to enjoy there food as well. I will mention that its a loud place. They play their music pretty loud which causes people to raise their voices to hear one another. Doesn't bother me but if you are looking for a quiet place, this isn't it. Will I be back? If someone else pays, sure! Which was the case when we came here. If I were paying, likely not, as I think there are plenty of better places to dine.

Specific question but in regards to the southwest chicken salad, does the mesquite smoked chicken seasoning m/rub contain sugar and/or glazed? Or is it simply smoked over mesquite wood? Looking for a "clean" option.

The rub does have brown sugar and taco seasoning which has sugar as well. Another option would be to sub a grilled chicken breast.

Do you they have vegan options?

Yes we do have Vegan options. Be sure and ask your server.

I really wish it were easier to find breakfast joints with organic coffee but it can be a bit difficult to find in certain areas, such as the east valley area. This was one of a couple options I could find. We attempted to dine here for dinner on a previous occasion but it was a long wait at that time so we went elsewhere. This time we showed up around 10:15am on a Saturday in June, and we were quoted 90 minutes for two people. Fortunately there was room at the bar, so we were seated immediately. The decor is very clean and subtlety higher end. It is an open floor plan with the bar towards the front door, which is also accessible from the large patio (in cooler weather times) that has mister fans and a lot of shade. They have one of the nicest and cleanest restrooms in the valley, with complementary sea salt scrub and high end paper napkins. They also have a couple luxurious event spaces, one of which was hosting an engagement party. My mom tried a non alcoholic drink special with decaffeinated tea and fresh juices, with a little flower on top. She also tried the avocado toast. She enjoyed both but she said the avocado toast was a little spicy, albeit she has an extremely low tolerance for spice. I opted for the breakfast sandwich and black coffee. The coffee came in a neat mug with an oversized handle that was very ergonomic. It was good, but slightly watery. Was at least comforting to know it wasn't laced with tons of pesticides like most restaurants' coffee. The egg, bacon and avocado sandwich was delicious. The egg and bacon were cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and soft but not too dry. The greens on the side were fresh with a nice vinaigrette. The service was excellent, all of the staff were friendly and seemed to be happy to be there. All in all I was impressed with this place. The only thing I wish they had on their brunch menu was an omelette, because this is first place I have been in a very long time that isn't a fine dining establishment, where they actually know how to cook eggs properly. They were fluffy, moist, and light. I don't bring this up as a brag, but I attended culinary school and learned proper scrambled egg (French style) technique years ago. This is the first place I've been in a long time that gives my eggs a run for their money.

The service however, has been a miss all three times we've been in. The location is large so maybe they just need to add to their team and do a little additional customer care training with everyone. We came in Saturday afternoon to a small lobby area where a gal was already waiting to be sat and when the third group walked in that lobby got even smaller. We waited for about 5 minutes for the hostess who came off cold and unbothered in leaving customers waiting as the other team members took notice of the filling lobby with no one checking in to let us know we'd be assisted soon. The hostess proceeded to tell us she'd be seating us outside, no offer of sitting inside at all and not once did she acknowledge her absence or offer any sort of greeting, not even a smile. When you're the first person the customer interacts with at business I feel it good practice to create a welcoming atmosphere that represents the space you're entering. Especially a place like this that is known for a fun, lively atmosphere. We were sat outside and our waitress was very sweet and got us taken care of with water, food, and drinks pretty quickly. It was a lot cooler than expected on the patio which was awesome, as I was worried about sitting outside when it was 104. Great job with that Mexicano! But once we got our food our waitress stopped by to check in once and we didn't really see her until the end of our meal after that. No refills on water or check-in to see if we wanted additional drinks (which I feel like happened the last time we were in as well). There's a gentleman with a tiger tattoo on the back of his neck who stops in at some people's tables to check in and have chat, he's never stopped in with us.. it all just seems like the customer isn't a priority at this restaurant. The food is delicious, the drinks are great but for the prices, I want to feel more valued. I want to have that fun experience of going out for drinks in a vibrant high-end cantina where you feel connected with the staff. We'll go back but I would really love to see a more engaged customer support team.

While I don't recall ordering food there, we had ordered drinks on several occasions. We also saw the food being brought out for others, not from our group, on several occasions. The 1912 Lounge can provide a cold beer, some handcrafted cocktails, or a variety of dishes, from appetizers and salads to burgers and other large entrees, and desserts. Music is always on pointe and I would never change the look or ambiance of the place either. My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all! Gosh I was so disappointed in myself that I had ever complained about not having a new menu to try after that...but at the same time it was amazing to hear so many great anecdotes and to learn so much more about him and the history of the bar itself while dining this time. I had a lot of fun times at this bar - including remembering the first time I met that bartender and sharing that memory with the staff that told me their story. They also shared that they would be coming out with a new menu very soon and some of the new items and ideas that would be rolling out so I am also very excited to go back! New food menu tomorrow too?! What?! I was almost tempted to back today to get more of their amazing dishes from the main menu!! Thank you Cat for the amazing hospitality! I learned so much about Gaea in one afternoon too :D Love it. To update about the food I tried but some of you may not get to try since they're changing it up :P *Tiger Shrimp - DIVINE - JUICY ZUCCHINI STUFFED WITH CURRY THAT MAKES YOUR ENTIRE MOUTH WATER JUST THINKING ABOUT IT ONCE ITS EVER TOUCHED YOUR TONGUE - the prawns are BIGGER THAN YOUR MIDDLE FINGER *Thai Salad - zesty spicy, VERY filling and made in lettuce cups, so very much not your typical salad but very tasty *steak skewers - much more like the juiciest steak I've literally ever had on a skewer - LITERALLY...but not because it's fat, just because they somehow made this steak completely juicified - don't ask me how - ask Cat *Mole Chicken Skewers - My favorite...you should just try it.

This most recent visit we ate outside as we had our dog with with us. There was one other party and even though it was late June, the patio was covered and the misters were nice, so it was very comfortable. Our server was friendly and although it seemed like she was new, if she didn't know the answer to our questions she happily asked her peers for the answer. We had a few hiccups but she was very apologetic and nice about it. We ordered the meatball Ferris wheel, kids cheese pizza, and hot Sicilian pizza. I thought it was really cool how the Ferris wheel actually spun. I did think the polenta would be a bigger portion and served on the side. (They put the polenta in each meatball cup) The meatballs were a good size and tasted pretty good. One of them was topped with Calabrian chili and it was really good. It may have been their monthly special. The kids pizza was a good size for our toddler and you could tell it wasn't frozen cheese pizza. The cheese was good and I like that it comes with a drink. I think it also comes with a dessert but our server didn't offer it and we didn't think we needed it. They did bring the pizza out piping hot and considering it's for a kid I would have appreciated if they let it cool a bit instead of bringing it fresh out the oven. The pizza was amazing and had such good flavor. I loved the ricotta and hot honey. I just wish it was a little bigger, but with the meatballs it was more than enough for two people. We don't eat Italian often but would definitely be back when we do.
