    They installed a new AC that STINKS! I hired them to come fix it, leaves without fixing it, won't respond to emails. AVOID!!!

Unfortunately, their business model has changed from "honest and hardworking" to "opaque and manipulative." The Technical Issues: In 2020, Santa Air installed my trane system but failed to properly connect the emergency heat strips. I spent five winters wondering why my house wouldn't stay warm below 30°F. They missed this mistake during every subsequent maintenance visit over the 5 years. Recently, they tried to charge me $1,700 for repairs I didn't need. A second opinion confirmed their diagnosis was wrong; that technician fixed Santa Air's original installation mistake and the actual sensor issue for a total of $575. The Billing Issues: Their current pricing "tiers" (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are incredibly over-inflated compared to other local HVAC companies. And if you only need a repair included in the Gold tier, you have to pay for all the things you don't need in the tiers below it. When I realized the invoice was vague and the work wasn't needed, I cancelled. The Ethics Issue: The most disappointing part was the office's response. They tried to emotionally guilt-trip me. They held my refund hostage, telling me they would only return my money if I removed my negative reviews. I refused to be coerced and had to fight for three months through my bank to recover the funds for services never rendered. Don't let the high star rating fool you--they are actively pressuring customers to delete bad experiences. Always get a second opinion!!!

Like so many people, when summer turned to fall we switched our heat pump from cool to heat only to find it didn't want to heat. To our regret we called another company that had been used by the prior owner of our house. They came out diagnosed what they thought was the problem, replaced the part only to find it didn't work and then started in telling us we were in for steep repair costs bordering on needing to replace the system (the system is from 2013). That's when we asked our neighbors for a recommendation and they told us to call Jonathan at Tobacco Road Heating & Air. We are so, so glad we did. It was the weekend so I sent an email to the company explaining the issue and asking for an appointment. Jonathan wrote back before I could finish my morning coffee and we were set to go with an appointment that week. Our appointment window was 9-12 and Jonathan pulled into our driveway at 8:59am(!). He checked out the issue; gave us a clear explanation of his thinking; and described his plan of attack. He called to check that the warehouse had the parts we needed and was back later that afternoon to install the parts. Problem solved. Not only was Jonathan timely, diligent, and professional but he saved us a ton of money by trying to actually solve the problem and not just sell us a new system. When you move to a new area, finding the right companies to maintain and service your house systems is always a challenge. We are happy that we've found Tobacco Road Heating & Air and can cross HVAC off our list.

He diagnosed the problem as too little coolant, recharged the system, and suddenly my upstairs is cooler than it has been in years. Highly recommend.
