Bomb sandwich spot! Hidden gem if I may! Came and had Arturo the sandwich artist take my order. Talked me thru the menu and I went with a customized sandwich( I'm a picky eater lol) got a turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich on a Dutch crunch. Return visit today to Bonne Santé, and the first surprise was that this place moved up and across the street. Truth be told, I had not been here since probably the 10s, when I used to work in town. The sandwiches then were huge, as big as your arm, soft french rolls or Dutch crunch, with great roasted meats, cheeses, and all sorts of tasty condiments. The sandwiches were so big and rich that I would take the second half home for dinner. Well, the sandwich today, a turkey and cranberry on Dutch Crunch, was also too big. But the fillings were markedly different. I faintly remember them using roasted (fresh) turkey slices and a tasty cranberry sauce, and, I believe a little bit of stuffing. There was also some kind of sauce because I recall that the sandwich had great flavor and just the slightest moistness. Instead I got deli turkey slices that were pretty cold, a smear of cranberry sauce (I did say 'light') that did nothing to really hold the sandwich together. Last time I recall that they used shredded lettuce, which blended nicely with the sandwich. Today's sandwich had very cold chopped romaine pieces that kind of fell out. The sauce was barely there, though it was vaguely mustardy. NB: Mustard and turkey do not go together. It turned out to be a fairly dry affair. My friend had a turkey on Dutch crunch. I assume he kind of enjoyed it, though he only ate half of it. At $13.50, it was, uh, just a tad pricey. We had a hankering for steak fries --at $6, expensive, and the pieces weren't that big. If you're gonna serve frozen taters, maybe rethink the price. Left a tip since the service was kind and prompt. That Dr Pepper can also felt good at the end. The biggest standout for me with Bonne Sante Broadway is how friendly the customer service here. I was greeted with a smile the moment I walked in which is a big plus. This shop has been part of the Broadway, Burlingame area for decades so the interior is on the older side and bit dim, but it's still a comfortable vibe and the sandwiches are massive. I ordered the Island Burger ($13.47) with a dutch crunch and everything on it. I totally forgot to say no pickles so I had to pick them out, but the sandwich was really good. The patty was cooked medium, but wasn't dry. There was a generous amount of grilled onions and thousand island sauce. If that's your type of combo in a burger/sandwich hybrid then this is a good choice. I definitely want to try their other sandwiches in the future. This deli is certainly more of a hidden gem and I never really noticed this shop passing by most of the time, but the quality and great service makes it worth coming. read more

I went with friend to have a light lunch here. The location has changed and is now an old, tired deli-like hole in the wall. Nothing about my lunch was good!!! I ordered the chicken breast sandwich. it was a whole chicken breast grilled to a chewy and well done state, which promptly fell out of the bun with all the ingredients landing on my plate. it was a total mess. They offered to replace it with their turkey but that was processed turkey like you get in a packaged meat at the supermarket. I think they must have bought out the original Bonne Sante and replaced it with this awful excuse of a restaurant. read more

We didn't order burgers. The ventilation isn't great. The shelves seem cluttered and look like they need cleared off. Our sandwiches were also on the wrong bread. Oh man...as a local to Broadway, I've so wanted this place to get better over the years but it just never has. Super nice folks but for some reason the focus continues to be on the size (not the quality of the sandwich). *Little Luca has this same issue IMO but are still a step up. Admittedly I'm a bit of a sandwich snob (and pride myself on making top-quality sandwiches) but it's one of those things that's so easy to get right with quality ingredients, fresh bread, and a little pride when making it. There's no need to get into the detail of where things are lacking so instead I'll say this: Two spots in Burlingame that execute this concept well are Gigi's (on Anza) and Caffe Stellato (on Bgame Ave). As this review truly isn't meant to sh*t on a small business (but rather to call attention to something totally fixable), I'd recommend any ownership/employee try a sandwich from both of those places mentioned above and see if you honestly disagree. I'd love to be a regular customer at Bonne Sante right down the street from me but just need the reason to be! Was craving a sandwich, so stopped by to try out Bonne Sante's Milano sandwich which includes salami, prosciutto, provolone cheese and all the toppings. The quality of the vegetables were very nice and I enjoyed the tartness from the combination of the olives, jalapenos, and vinegar. It seems that the sandwich is toasted with the meat so the salami and prosciutto were a bit crispy so that might not be everyone's cup of tea. I would recommend asking for the meat not to be toasted if that is an option. We dined in and there's plenty of seating and TV's. The restaurant gives a nice sports bar feel and is adorn with San Francisco sport team memorabilia. Food was prepared quickly and served to our seats. Besides their sandwich selection, they also serve burgers, salads, beer, and various sides like loaded fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. Very convenient location on Broadway in Burlingame. My spouse and I always split a Bacon Cheeseburger, it's portions are big enough to fill us both up and it's consistently the best burger in the area. I hate giving local businesses bad reviews but I am compelled to share this as I have given this sandwich shop a few tries and each time I regret it and end up throwing out the massive sandwich. I ordered a Milano sandwich today and my husband the smoker. We picked it up and walked our 5 minutes back to our home. By the time we opened up the sandwich to eat they were a soggy mess, dripping in oil. My sandwich had cooked prosciutto and salami!! Who does that? It made the meat hard, and just a salty piece of jerky- let alone it's unappealing gray color. Toast the bread, toast the bread with cheese but leave the Italian meat off the flat top! The Dutch crunch was soggy and laden with a pound of the olive spread that wasn't needed. The second time around I went with the Island burger on dutch, and it's topped with caramelized onions, 1000 island, and cheddar cheese. Equally as delicious, and a must get if you like 1000 island on your burgers. Their sun-dried teppanade adds a nice touch that adds Bonne Sante's unique flavor to every sandwich you get here. You can easily turn these sandwiches into two meals! The burgers are cooked to medium/medium-well, which is good for burgers IMO (not if it was a steak though, med-rare, all day), since it holds it's shape. I don't like leaving a bad review for a local business since I'm in the neighborhood but the current restaurant rating and my experience is so far from each other that I really wanted to share with you. This was our second and final time ordering. The first we ordered two salads, one of which was southwestern salad. There was no flavor - it was just tossed greens and a dumped out can of beans and the driest of chicken without any seasoning I've ever had. I ended up throwing it out because it was so inedible. I thought maybe this place is just known for sandwiches so I decided to give it another try. After failing to catch them during opening hours since they do not take orders up until closing time, I think their cut off is like 1:30 or 1:40, today we managed to get our order in. I got chicken breast on Dutch crunch and my husband the Napa on sourdough. We ended up throwing away both. Here is why. My sub wreaked of something spoiled. I'm pregnant so I thought I was just imagining things and let my husband smell it and he actually confirmed is smelled spoiled. We realized it's their "house famous sun dried tomato spread" that smelled like it just went bad. I tossed out the half of the sub where it was smeared and took a bite of the other half. The chicken was just like the salad - super dry, no seasoning, and no sauce to make up for lack of flavor. The Dutch crunch is my favorite - but this one was missing the crunch and the bread was soft and the crunch part soggy. I didn't even bother saving the bread for a toast later, it was just so bad. My husbands Napa consisted of Turkey and Brie and the famous sauce - so he was already turned off by the soiled smell of the spread. He was also put off by his Turkey having a checkered print on it from the wrapping paper's ink seeping onto the turkey's surface and coloring it. I was really hungry and since he refused to eat his sandwich I took a bite after I trimmed the colored part of the Turkey. Again no flavor no seasoning, just lukewarm slices of turkey with warm vegetables. The Brie cheese was good, but come on how in the world is this place rated so high with sandwiches like these? Well, I have had had good visits and service from the relocated Bonne Sante until yesterday. Came at about 1:30 pm and ordered 2 sandwiches, a salad, fries and onion rings. Normally the cashier knows how to handle everything. Yesterday, the young man with the glasses had a hard time at the cashier and over charged me. Thankfully I was paying a little attention. He kept insisting the total for the items was $59.73 I kept questioning and then when he asked the other young female, she said to ring it up again. And behold, it came out to $42.35. It's very basic or as my girlfriends uses the word regular when she describes something as not so special lol. Overall the sandwich is what you'd expect a highly rated sandwich shop to provide.
