Just back from Jekyll & Hyde's. What's the most stars you can give? I give a bit more. Vegetarians - this is the spot! There for happy hour. Light dinner for two. Five top shelf dank ciders, ale, and lagers Bill before tip only 46 bucks!!!!! No joke. Happy hour 5-7 10-12 Califlour bites- perfect seasoning Tofu sandwich- Win liked it quite a bit. Carb heavy for me and I'm not a tofu steak guy usually - but the flavors were solid. Shoestring fries Cajun and Parmesan and herb - I say " on point " Win says "delightful" Homemade ranch had great body and was very creamy. I'd go more ranch flavor. I was in Erie a few weeks ago, and a friend recommended I check out Jekyll & Hyde's. I went in with high expectations, but I had an even more enjoyable time than I hoped. The beer selection was fantastic. I love trying out new beers, and there were several I hadn't had before. That's always nice to see. I wasn't expecting to eat, but the beers kept me there until I was hungry. I was intrigued by many items on the menu, but I eventually settled on the Jambalaya. It was fantastic! All around, I had a very nice evening and I intend to visit again when I find myself back in Erie. read more

While traveling through Erie, I wanted to check this place out. If only I had gone to a local dumpster instead. The hostess and server were absolutely brain-dead and seemed to be more concerned with their next meth fix than taking care of customers. It was a horrible experience and not even the cheap, watered-down swill they call 'beer' could numb the experience. Perhaps locals like the place because of some misguided sense of loyalty but I would easily place this as one of the top 10 worst places to eat east of the Mississippi. read more

I absolutely loved the atmosphere, friendly service, good beer selection. Still, as Erie only proclaimed "gastropub," I did expect a little better food. I had the shrimp burger and it was excellent - tasty, seemed like it was fresh made, and the cucumber sauce was delicious. My girlfriend had the short rib french dip - and it was probably the worst french dip I ever had. It was so absurdly salty (even for me, and I love salt) that my girlfriend could only take a bite of it. My girlfriend's Greek pasta salad was good, but not mind-blowing, although my sausage and potato soup was very tasty. Overall, we had a fine experience - again, I loved the selection of beer, the friendly service, and being able to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather - but I was a little disappointed in our food. I will definitely check it out again, as there are other things on the menu I'd love the try, such as the Vietnamese pork sandwich, and update my review as such. read more

I do not go out to bars very often but the atmosphere and food here is great! I love the Impossible Burger and fries! This is one of my favorite veggie burgers! The buffalo cauliflower is delicious! Disclaimer: I am not from Pennsylvania. The menu features "standard" bar food with one twist: everything is home made, and well-made at that! Per the chef, the standard menu doesn't change but all their ingredients are purchased fresh. Sauces, dressings and even the ground beef for burgers are made in-house. The beer selection is solid and the bartender is not shy to provide a sample to the curious patron. Service was prompt and friendly (I did go on a slow Tuesday night), the prices were fair and the quality outstanding. My only qualm is with the atmosphere and the decor: half of the restaurant has an English pub motif, the other half is a bright stainless gastropub, except both are executed on the level you might expect at a restaurant in the terminal of a medium-sized airport: comfortable but cheap. I have really enjoyed my few experiences here for lunch. They offer a great rotating menu that uses fresh ingredients. The environment is relaxed and comfortable, with large windows that let in natural light from the street. It would make a great place to grab some small plates and drinks after work, or have a fun date night. The food is more simple bistro then pub food, and the use of fresh ingredients is really prominent. The menu offers a good selection of sandwiches and small plates that are well prepared and composed. Unfortunately some of the dishes just don't quite come together completely to give this place five stars. For instance the lettuce wraps come with a great dipping sauce and the idea is there, but the chicken was kind of mushy and wilted the lettuce two much that the entire thing fell apart. Good idea, and some of the flavors were great, but it just didn't come all together in the end. Overall good fresh food, seasonally changing menu, and decent drink selection. Went there before the "Roar on the Shore" Steppenwolf concert based on the rumor of a large craft beer selection and good food. Well, it was true + more. In addition to a selection of over 40 craft beers, a unique menu, our server "Gordon", real name Elliott, was great. Great service and great sense of humor! Atmosphere is more bar than gastropub, but the food is pretty good. Burger was overcooked, but this was expected - there seems to be a regional tendency to translate "rare" into "medium well" in Western Pennsylvania. Ah well. Still a decent burger on a good roll. And I can't complain about any sandwich that comes with a side of Greek-style quinoa instead of fries. Nice touch. The chef's take on banh mi was way better. The kitchen is open late. And the bar has some great beer specials. So Jekyll & Hyde has some good things going for it. read more

My mom and I were looking for a place to stop for food and, after glancing at the menu, picked this place. We attempted to sit in the back room, but the acoustics were horrible with one loud group, so we opted to sit in the front bar. I was very impressed with the menu - despite it being a limited menu of one page, most of the options were vegetarian or vegan. My mom wanted something small, so options were a bit more limited. She tried to get the buffalo cauliflower minus the buffalo sauce. The flavor in the batter was definitely lacking, but I can't hold that against the place since it was intended to be tossed in sauce. The ranch served with the app was the most flavorless ranch we've ever tasted - it was like they mixed water with ranch. I got the sweet potato tacos and asian slaw. While I liked the flavor of the slaw, it was extremely soggy (made with ramen). The tacos were really great and it made me want to try to recreate at home. The food was the best part of this restaurant. The atmosphere seems to be having an identity crisis (perhaps on purpose? Hence the name? I'm not sure). I would classify the food as upscale/pretentious bar food, yet the decor screamed sports bar. The two styles seemed at odds with each other. Simply an odd combination. This restaurant is small with a handful of tables, small bar and TEENIE one-(wo)man kitchen. There was one woman working the tables/bar and she seemed completely overwhelmed. It took awhile to even get menus (hard to blame since it was only her, but still rough service). The food took a long while to come out because there was only one chef! Despite being busy, she seemed to be working super slowly. Probably her laid back style - but shocking since it was so busy. The food was the highlight of the evening. The handmade black bean burger was tasty, but the seitan Philly wrap was the winner. Really tasty. Food gets 3 stars. Rest of the restaurant gets 2 stars. I have only been here twice and had decent experiences both times... decent being the operative word. Being from Erie, it is nice to see that a place like this exists. The food is pretty good (we had the hummus and guacamole apps before and this time just had the hummus, falafel and black bean burger).... all decent. I am not a fan of their yogurt dill spread that was on my falafel... I was expecting Tzatziki sauce and was quite disappointed with their concoction. My framboise was also served in a 16oz Pint... this should never be more than a 9-11 oz bevvie as it gets too hard to drink at the end... most places do not serve it like this. The bartender admitted she was newer, and had not tried many of the beers... in a place like this where Craft beers and imports are abundant, I think it would be important for them to be more knowledgeable. I can see this place improving with time. I will definitely give it another chance our next visit to Erie. read more

Jekyll & Hyde's is a timeless local watering hole and so much more. Situated in a beautifully renovated 100 year old downtown building, Jekyll & Hyde's is the fusion of old and new. Or so the website says, the menu is a little different and I wish they decided to spend a little extra coin and get a mobile menu for smart phones. The really hip places are doing this and its often a time saver. They have an excellent beer selection. I'm a microbrew guy I love to taste different beers and then move on. I've been thinking about making my own beer but that isn't important here. The menu, they are trying to be all things to all people. Big mistake, they need to zone in on a few good dishes, I saw this Vietnamese pork sandwich which looked really out of place on the menu. They do get points for trying and I will try these things but I was pub jumping finding out where the best food and beer was. I will return. read more

My favorite place to visit in downtown Erie. The bar is split into two areas, the front where it is a bit darker lighting and a bit louder, occasionally having a live band, where the back is a bit lighter with more of background music, a nice place if you want to chat and grab a drink with some friends. Their menu rotates seasonally with fresh and seasonal ingredients, which always seem to be excellent. I have eaten here many times, and have yet to have a poor meal. The menu always offers meals that cater to a wide variety of tastes. This is not your standard bar food, but definitely gastropub/gourmet bar food. One of my personal favorite menu items that is always listed, is the table top s'mores. A tray with chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers is presented to you with a jar of lit sterno in the middle to toast your marshmallows on the spot, a great dessert to share among friends. The meat and cheese board is always an excellent appetizer. The real draw of Jekyll and Hyde's for me is their happy hours and draft beer selection. With 46 craft beer options, a beer for any taste can be found, along with a full bar and bottles/cans available. The happy hours are half off of all drafts, you would be hard-pressed to find a better place to get a wide array of craft selections for this cheap. Whether a craft beer aficionado or looking for some unique bar food, a location worth the stop every time. read more
