Disappointing. The lettuce in my Chef salad was not fresh, lots of brown pieces. My girlfriend got to the end of her salad and found a hair in her salad bowl. Our first visit and, unfortunately, quite likely our last. Service was painfully slow, which is especially problematic with a hungry two-year-old waiting for one pancake. It took more than 30 minutes after ordering to get our breakfast. No special orders--straight off the menu. We were done with our coffee and mimosas long before food arrived. There were no attempts by our server to top off our coffee while waiting or apologies for the delays. Food was decent, but not enough to offset the experience. I give five stars to the bussing staff, though. I ordered the San Fran Bennie. It came out perfect. Egg was poached well, like I asked. I didn't get a picture (too busy brunching). Theres a cute little bar area too when you walk in. The atmosphere is pleasant, the customer service is amazing, and the food is extraordinary! I've tried the chicken fajita omelet and the corned beef hash & eggs so far and both come with about 2 meals worth of food, which is great from someone who likes left overs. I went here with my family and I told the server I have celiac disease and told the waitress that I cannot have gluten, so she stated they have gluten free items, so I ordered pancakes and when I got them they were literally raw all inside the pancake........ so I told her about it , and I get another meal instead, so I got a tuna melt on a gluten free bread, well when she brought it out , 15 minutes later, it was on regular bread!!!! And she said she told the cooks I had a gluten allergy and reassured me everything was gonna be okay! Well clearly, I cannot come here anymore. Please do not have gluten free items if you can't supply it!!! People like myself get very sick! Jelly Cafe has everything that I crave! One of the best places that I had ever been to, I am telling you. Recommend this place very much for everyone. A friend of mine suggested for I go here since I had a long hard week at work and I am thankful that I decided to come here. It was worth it. I love the setup and everything. The ambiance of this place is the best, it is one of the best things that I liked here and my friend also told me the same thing. I can agree now that I had the chance to go here. Also, The vibe is set on and it did change up my mood. It is also amazing how they structured their place, definitely very unique, outstanding, wonderful, cool, and all. If you are thinking that the outside is good then if you see the inside, you would know that it is an immaculate place. The inside the great, unique, tidy, clean, well-organized, decent, bright and cool in the eyes. The visual structures and all as well as their amazing customer and foodservice. Their service is phenomenal. their staff is friendly, neat, professional, well trained, kind,  cooperative, And patient. You can tell that they are joining their job.  Also, the place isn't just about the great ambiance of food, I can say that it is the highlight of their place. This is my go to location for breakfast in the Palatine area. Has a nice selection of breakfast foods and have an attention to detail. The food is always perfectly cooked and reasonably priced. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT!!!....DESTROYED Mother's Day for a first time mother. I never write reviews but this experience should be public information. My wife and I have a 3 month old baby, our first. I tried to make this a special holiday for my wife, so naturally, since we have an infant we were not looking to dine out, but rather I would surprise her with breakfast in bed with home delivery. We are no strangers to Jelly Cafe and do in fact quite enjoy their food, this was a no-brainer, so I thought. Not wanting to take any chances with holiday reservations, I booked a breakfast order with Jelly Cafe through Uber Eats 2 weeks in advance. The morning of, 5/9/21, I even received a confirmation text from Uber Eats that our breakfast would arrive at our home between 10 and 10:30am. I'm thinking this is a fantastic surprise for my overtired wife and a little way to treat her and show my appreciation. 11 o'clock rolls around and no food. I gave it 30 minutes thinking maybe the Mother's Day holiday had some orders backed up at the restaurant. Then I began calling the restaurant to find out where our order is and why we haven't received it. No one is picking up the phone at Jelly Cafe...for 3 hours I called! There goes my wonderful surprise. By this time I am furious, we are all hungry, and I simply cooked breakfast instead. How could I receive confirmation and nothing show up? Also, good luck finding alternative arrangements at 11am on Mother's Day, an impossible feat not worth attempting. The next day, Monday 5/10/21 I called to at least attempt some answers from Jelly Cafe. Maybe the restaurant unexpectedly shut down for the day? Maybe an emergency? A kitchen fire? I was willing to accept any answer...that is until I heard what really happened from the manager that picked up the phone. I asked, "Were you guys closed for the holiday?" Her response, "No, the restaurant is open 7 days a week. Why do you ask?" Well I explained what had happened that Sunday and she was perplexed. She said the owner, Billy, took the phones off the hook first thing in the morning because he didn't want to be bothered with holiday calls. She said, if I didn't receive my order that is on Uber Eats, not the restaurant, and take it up with them. I was dumbfounded at that response. I thanked her and told her I would still like to leave a message for Billy and politely ask him to call me back. In the meantime I did contact Uber Eats, and in fact spoke with the driver who was supposed to pick up our meal. Without me prompting him or giving any information, he disclosed he couldn't reach the restaurant by phone to confirm the order is ready for him to pick up. NO WONDER! The same problem I had, the phones were off the hook! Few days later, on 5/12/21, still not having heard back from owner Billy, I called again and left another polite message with the manager asking to have Billy contact me. I was willing to let all this go provided Billy act like a responsible restaurant owner and simply say he was too overwhelmed and I would happily accept a phone apology for him disconnecting the restaurant's phones on a holiday. Instead, here I am writing only my 2nd Yelp review in history, and still have not heard a peep from Billy (today's date 5/18/21). Billy, what do you say to your paying public? Why no response? Why no shame? Just as long as you line your pockets you forgo scruples? If anyone has read this post in its entirety, please find a different breakfast establishment to provide your hard earned money. read more

"That place was Meh!" - my 7 year old. The problem is, I agree with him. It was just meh. Maybe they are still working out he kind of a new operation, and I honestly thought the owners of the Grove Kitchen just rebranded. While not bad, this is not a place we would go out of our way for nor would we wait in line for like Wildberry or other places. The coffee was decent, but that's about it. I am here at least once a week. Needless to say I love this place! It is super cute inside and the food and service are excellent. I love that they leave the carafe of coffee on the table for you even when there is only one person having coffee. I don't like having to rely on somebody else to refill my coffee cup. Their coffee is delicious both regular and decaf. Coming to Jelly Cafe is always a relaxing experience. I've ordered a variety of both breakfast and lunch and items and have never been disappointed. My reason as to why I have chosen 1 star when it really should be 0 is because not only was the waffle machine NOT working, I was unable to order what I would have liked. Next, I received my food and although it's looked nice when I took my first bite (a banana) it was awful it tasted as if someone had cut onions and then cut my bananas I tried everyone's banana (those who got banana with there food) and theirs tasted fine and then the strawberry's had a strange after taste, the crepes were strange and burnt. The food is always top notch, and the service is outstanding. The only thing that needs improvement is their waitlist service. A girl at the front counter with a notebook of names having to manage seas of the hangriest people cannot be fun. Might I recommend using open table? Or a texting service? In reading these reviews they seem good. I can't find a worse restaurant in Palatine, only based on food quality. I've been there 3 times now just to give them a fair chance. All 3 times I /we were sat promptly, servers were nice and friendly and kept checking on us. Prices were reasonable, but it just seems like someone back in that kitchen just doesn't know what's going on. My corned beef hash, one of the easiest items to make came as an order of hash browns with some small shreds of corned beef mixed in. Worth about $1.25. My guest had heavy pancakes. Thick and heavy not lite and fluffy (their words). The two times I went before this was the same, food, I just can't believe how bad it was, terrible, staff right on point as a restaurant should be. Only once place was dirty despite having a busboy on duty (the place is small and wasn't busy). I won't be back until someone learns how to cook. read more

I have been to the new Palatine location twice and both times the food was excellent as was the service. Easily in my top 3 breakfast spots. The steel cut oatmeal, breakfast quesadilla and pit ham are delicious. Our server on the first visit also provided complimentary beignets and jelly which was also delicious. GRAMMIE-was super passive aggressive and RUDE! I guess she prefers white customers because she gave me attitude when I walked in to ask about my take out but decently nice to others (all customers were white) and super nice for those that recognize her from a restaurant she used to own or something. Too bad the owners won't do anything about her employment although I see multiple posts complaining about her both on yelp and google. Probably because old people are stubborn and won't wanna listen to anyone, next time maybe just say 'I'll go check gimme one sec' instead of 'it's coming. They're working on it' without even asking for the name of the order. How do you know the order was even placed if you didn't even bother to check? This is our new favorite breakfast place! Service was excellent, decor was understated and fresh looking. I liked the fact that you did not feel like you were sitting on top of each other. Most importantly, the food was very good. Everything was fresh and just a little bit different than the typical breakfast place. This is our second time here (went a week ago) and again didn't disappoint. The customer service is on point. Today our waitress was Wendy and she was very friendly and nice. I had the avocado toast which was out of this world. The flavors were awesome! The hubs had biscuits & gravy. The gravy was so flavorful and light. Visited Jelly Cafe Palatine for the first time today. The food was great. My friend and I split eggs Benedict, Cinnamon roll french toast and beignets. The cinnamon french toast was crazy good no need for syrup it's sweet enough on it's own. The beignets with jelly were very tasty and the jelly is more like a raspberry sauce to dip in. The eggs Benedict was good but could easily use more hollandaise sauce so maybe ask for a bit extra when ordering. This place blows away the previous restaurant that was located here. I used to love Jelly Café, but after the last few experiences I will NEVER return. The last 2 times I ate here, Irina was our waitress. Last time, when I ordered a side of oatmeal with my meal, she said, "That's a lot of food, are you sure you want to order all of that?" This was an extremely rude an insensitive comment, especially since she said it in a very judgmental way. We arrived over an hour before the restaurant closed and didn't get our food until about 30 minutes later. This would have been fine if she didn't start rushing us out of the restaurant 10 minutes later (20 minutes before closing). Overall, it was a pretty terrible experience, but over a month later I decided to give it another try. I called on the phone before arriving there today to ask about indoor seating and Irina answered the phone, answering all of my questions in a very rude way, almost making me second guess coming. I went anyways and upon arrival, I realized she would be our server again, which I was not happy about. She forgot 3 items we ordered when she bought out her meals and didn't even come to check if we were missing anything for at least 10 minutes. Then, she came back to take our plates and there was a very miniscule amount of water under one of our plates (see photo). She asked in a very annoyed tone if we spilled anything, and I immediately apologized and said "Yes, just a little." She then responded, "Well, that doesn't look like a little," with lots of attitude. Overall, Irina has ruined my experience with Jelly Café forever. Since she seems to be working there a lot lately and be the only waiter working, I would NOT go to Jelly Café anytime soon unless you want a horrible experience. read more
