Jelly is our neighborhood breakfast joint, super fun and unique. We have been here several times (always hit or miss). I would say I am really hopeful every time we go for breakfast. We were excited to try the biscuits and gravy- I got the Veggie biscuits and gravy and my guest order the Haco Chile. The food came out within 5 minutes on a Saturday morning- 15 minute wait. That was a little questionable although really great just because once we received our food we wondered if it had been sitting there waiting for someone to order it (?)... Let me explain- the biscuits were extremely dry (noooo!) and the food was cold (it had just come out so why?). My guest could not eat their food because it was so dry and actually it back to the kitchen which has never happened and felt really awkward to do. Our waitress was gracious and apologetic but did not ask me if the same thing was up with my breakfast... my biscuits were dry and i mean HARD, crusty but I still tried to eat it- it was really unappetizing. I was really sad because I was super excited to bring family here and then had an outcome like this with my guest and felt really embarrassed. Im more embarrassed and upset that the lady who asked me if I was done with my plate SAW that I had a FULL PLATE of uneaten food and said nothing.. as a server in the food industry I would have handled this (my table) much differently so they would want to come back. I was hopeful but disappointed yet again with Jelly... the photo I posted is what my biscuits and gravy came out looking like. Went here for a Sunday brunch around 11am. Sadly the table turnover was pretty slow so the wait was longer. What I mean by that is, the table they sat us at was open for 10 minutes, like many other tables. We started off sharing the donut holes, tried every flavor. Was not a fan of the bacon one, but definitely love the creme anglais (sp?) And the maple syrup. The Thai peanut was interested but definitely good too! For breakfast I have the chili scramble with tofu, I have to say, the flavor profile was lacking. The sauce gave the appearance that it's be a flavor bomb in my mouth but it was almost undetectable. Honestly, the hot sauce from Lucilles would go PERFECTLY on this. I think it was pretty Good, just want a kick especially since the avocados and sour cream are there to cool it down. read more

Visited Jelly from Chicagoland after being unable to get into Snooze in a reasonable time. Jelly was about a 10 minute wait. The ordering process is very non-traditional and was reminiscent of Panera. That was odd, but it didn't bother us until we were told by an employee that there would be a 20% surcharge on our bill that would go to the restaurant and not to the staff. My friend, clinicially deaf in one ear, concerned that he misheard, told me about it. I read some of the reviews and saw that the 20% was actually a gratuity. Considering the waitstaff isn't providing traditional service, the 20% gratuity or surcharge is pretty absurd. I understand that COVID-19 has been difficult for the restaurant industry. However, it has been challenging for nearly everyone financially. It would be more considerate and respectful of customers to simply roll the surcharge into the menu prices or at least be upfront about it on the website, front door, or menu. Otherwise, the food was pretty good. I enjoyed my cinnamon roll pancakes and eggs. read more

I love a great breakfast, especially on the weekends when I like to start the day off with gallons of steaming hot coffee, sugar-y and starch-y treats, and some kind of pig product. I really look forward to going out and having breakfast in one of our local Denver breakfast joints. I guess everybody else does too. Each weekend I marvel at the crowds and the wait for a table. The best places are used to these high volumes and plan for the crowds accordingly, especially places which serve only, or specialize in, the first meal of the day. So without hesitation the GF and I set off for Jelly U. on a recent Sunday morning because A) they specialize in breakfast, B) it's close to my house, C) it was still early so no waiting. Well, almost no waiting, but first let me talk about the food. I needed to try Jelly's donuts, because all week on Yelp talk it's been Dunkin this, and Krispy that, and Walton's this, I just succumbed to the pressure and ordered 8 of Jelly's made from scratch donuts. I easily cave into suggestion. At Jelly these donuts are one bite wonders of warm, deliciousness with all kinds of flavors: lemon, jelly, cinnamon sugar, etc. Those were the best flavors. They also have caved in to the bacon peer pressure and have a bacon maple donut and a bhakti donut. Really? Leave the bhakti to the religion is what I say. Anyway, the donuts that I liked were great and I would suggest getting no more than two flavors rather than the sampler because of the way they are served - all the flavors got a bit muddled in the deep bowl. For my main course (yes, multiple courses at breakfast, why not?) I tried the Eggs Florentine ($9.50). Two PERFECTLY poached eggs are served atop slightly wilted fresh spinach and sourdough bread; the whole dish was covered with a textbook hollandaise which was rich and had the slightest hint of lemon flavor. That would have been enough to win me over and make me a fan, but to the side were real breakfast potatoes which were also noteworthy; they were slightly crispy at the edges and served with caramelized onions, a dollop of sour cream, and then finished with a sprinkling of chives. This is a great breakfast item which was well executed. Fantastic! Why would I give Jelly only three stars however? Service - piss poor from the chaotic front desk and seating to the initial greeting at the table and then finally to check reconciliation and payment. When we first walked in at 8:00 am on this fine Denver Sunday morning we were happy to see that there were plenty of open tables and I was grateful that we had beat the crowds which were sure to come later in the morning. The hostess greeted us warmly and said that it would be about a five minute wait. That seemed a bit weird to me since they had all those open tables, but hey, no big deal, it's just five minutes. The hostess then was inundated with several more walk-in parties of various sizes, with no back-up help to get people seated. It was painful to see the mass of people surrounding her, because by the time guests stopped walking in there were 19 people (I counted) crowded around the small entry and she looked overwhelmed. Instead of getting people seated at those empty tables, she walked away and started clearing a dirty table so that a party of six could be seated. Meanwhile, there were OPEN tables available for every other group. Then she went around the restaurant and refilled coffee. Then she finally started seating people, including dumbfounded John V. after 15 minutes of standing and watching this car wreck. Finally ensconced at a table I began to look over the menu. A little small talk with the GF, decisions made, enjoying the warm morning on the patio, I began to wonder when our server would approach us for our drink order. And then the wait began again. No one came to the table for about 10 minutes. Other tables were seated after us and servers were taking drink and other orders, but sadly not for us. I said to the GF "If someone isn't here in two minutes, we're leaving." Just as I finished my whine our server showed up, took our order and promptly returned with our coffee and water. The food followed very quickly after that (thank you kitchen team!). We ate, and everything was delicious and hot, I got my second cuppa and I was feeling pretty good. Then of course I wanted to pay. That too was not handled very efficiently either. The server took my credit card and disappeared for...too long. Not cool. Will I return? Probably. I always wonder why restaurant staff and owners consistently fail to understand that the initial and final interactions with their guests matter tremendously. Greet me, seat me and get me a drink in a timely fashion and you will go a long way in earning my repeat business. And when I'm ready to pay, make sure that the transaction is turned around quickly and then thank me for my business upon my exit. It really is that simple. Love this place! The DU area needed some fresh new blood and this is exactly what the Doctor ordered. Food- GREAT! Have to try the new flavor of donut bites. If you are a little more hungry then munch down on the Haco Benny. Decor- The BEST. Everything from the bar top to the bathrooms are unique and spot on. Ambience. SUPERB. I met Erin H. here for breakfast last weekend. I have been wanting to try Jelly since the original location had opened, but never had the chance. So since this location was around the corner from my house, we decided to check it out. We met early, at about 7:45, so we could be seated within several minutes instead of an hour, which is the going wait if you get there after 9am on a weekend. We got there and they sat us relatively quickly. As we looked over the menus our server came over and I ordered coffee, we attempted to order donut bites while we looked over the menu and our server told us they were out of them. Out of their famous donut bites only 45 minutes after opening? Really? The restaurant wasn't even that busy! But yes they were out of them, and so we said we needed a couple of minutes to look over the menu. A couple of minutes turned into 10 and she finally came back, took our order. I ordered the Northwest Scramble: Eggs scrambled with salmon and goat cheese and a biscuit for my bread. My breakfast was OK. It wasn't bad, I ate all of it, but it wasn't anything that would make me return. Additionally, the coffee is some of the most watery coffee I've ever had. I actually went to the Sbux across the street afterward and ordered a Venti dark roast, black. While our server wasn't great, she did come back to us at the end and ask if we wanted to order the donut bites, we did, to go. When I got home, B and I nibbled on them, they were still warm, but we weren't really that impressed. With lackluster service and food that's just OK, I think 3 stars may be pushing it for this location of Jelly. However, I don't think it was a two star experience either. So to be cliche, I'll say it was 2.5 but I'll be nice and round up, but I doubt I'll return. read more

Delicious food. Way better than Snooze, with a real diner-esque feel. The donuts are so good and a fun treat. They do make mistakes sometimes, as any kitchen that is pumping out this much food would, but they are always very kind to make it right and take things off the bill. Best biscuts and jam. OMG. Order the french toast! Don't be mad about a long wait. Servers and restaurants have basically no control over how long it takes people to eat, and since it's a breakfast place, people aren't generally in a hurry to get anywhere... so yeah, people take longer. It's worth the wait though, and the hosts have always been super nice to me and my friends. Not a great place for large groups, but 2-4 people would be best. read more

Eh. Spend your brunch/lunch money elsewhere. I think the quality of the food is pretty bad, especially for the price. I like their decor and lattes the best! The customer service is really great. Overall, I've never been impressed with a meal here, yet always disappointed with the hole in my wallet afterwards. The vegetarian meals are especially overpriced for the quality. I love breakfast. And, I love not having to cook breakfast. Thankfully, I have a few friends who are willing to get up early and try out new places with me. This past weekend, Amanda T. and I decided to hit up "Jelly U" since it's in our hood. I'd heard great things about the original Jelly, so I was excited to try this place out. First up, we had to try the donut bites. Sadly, when we first arrived (very early in the morning), they were "out" of donut bites. Really? Isn't this one of your main things? Thankfully our server remembered we wanted them and we got to try them at the end. We split a large order (8 bites), and I tried the lemon curd, creme anglaise, maple bacon, and jelly. Of these, the jelly was definitely the best. The berry jelly had a good flavor. It was messy though! I should have popped the whole thing in my mouth rather than taking a bite. If I got the bites again, I'm not sure I'd get either of the other three. They were just ok. I opted for the Wisco scramble. It was pretty darn good, but I'd expect it to be with three kinds of cheese and bacon. I think all the brie in my scramble ended up being on one end. I didn't really taste it in the first part of my meal, but my last few bites were brie-tastic. Service was ok. When we weren't quite ready to order, "a few more minutes" turned into a really long time. You'd think they'd want to keep turning these tables during the busy breakfast hours. Also, a pet peeve of mine: they won't seat you until your whole party is there. I can sort of see this for large parties, but really when it's a party of 2 and I tell you my other person is parking, you're going to make me wait? I'd still get the same size table if I were a party of 1 - unless singles aren't worthy of a table and forced to sit at the bar. It seems silly to me. This is a solid 3-star place. My food was good, but it wasn't anything that would make me want to come back again and again. And, I certainly wouldn't wait for it. read more

Way different crowd than the Cap Hill location but same great menu. I much prefer Jelly to Snooze. This morning I tried the North West Scramble for the first time- yum yum. Goat cheese with salmon as opposed to the standard cream cheese gives it a little kick. I'm not a french toast fan but I really dig the corn flakes french toast (for me it something to share with the table in addition to my eggs). The staff is generally pleasant and this location seems a little more roomy than the Cap Hill spot while still offering the counter seating. There is no outdoor seating but you wouldn't want to sit out on Evans anyways. The tables are small which doesn't give a lot of room to spread out tea pots, sharing plates etc. Pet peeve- I kinda hate it when they give you a cup of tea and extra pot but with only one tea bag. The tea is strong enough and all but it creates one big mess (or maybe that's just me). read more

Not sure why this place has any good ratings. Best thing I had was my latte. The donut bites were ok but not great. I had the breakfast burrito which had barely any green chili on it, over cooked eggs, chorizo w no flavor and a sprinkling of cheese. Tortilla was old and sad, pulled pork was ok but not much in there. Hubby had biscuits and gravy was one small biscuit which flavorless gravy and sad potatoes on the side. He was still hungry when we left even after finishing off my burrito. read more

I had the veggie benedict...i'm not a vegetarian at all. perhaps just going through a phase. at any rate it was incredible. took my daughter here for her birthday breakfast. we headed towards snooze and even went so far as to drive into the parking lot. it has been our go to place for breakfast since moving to denver a couple years ago. but on the drive there i mentioned there was a place called Jelly cafe I wanted to try but it was farther away. fortunately my daughter was intrigued by the name and suggested we try it. t was a saturday morning so, yes, we did have to wait 30 or 40 minutes but it was worth it and I will definitely bring my wife back to try the veggie benedict among other things. tried several benedicts at Snooze and they never really delivered in size and quality. to exotic or something? Oh, and try the donut holes. ha, such a surprise hit. we took a dozen to-go with intentions of sharing them with my sons when we got home. once we got started on them though we were in serious trouble. took incredible self control to shut that box and tuck the few remaining away. read more

First of all, if you plan to go on Saturday, you should probably take a cab. You can't park within 3 blocks for longer than an hour. We had a table of 6, told it would be 20 minutes. We checked in again after a half hour, and she said 15 more minutes. We were finally seated after 90 minutes, it took an hour for our food to come, and we ended up getting it to go. The topper...we nicely explained the situation to the manager/owner. Her response (with a dry, sarcastic grin)..."It's Saturday." I will NEVER go back, to any of their locations. read more

Jelly is just OK. My wife and I just had brunch there last weekend. The interior is funky and cute; they have hit the right note for the college area. Service, however, is what you would expect from a bunch of hipsters, cool and a bit inattentive. I also really don't like service staff all covered with tattoos but I know that's a preference that if I really stuck to would mean I could not eat anywhere in this town. Food was OK. My wife had some vegetarian tempeh hash atrocity, but she thought it was good. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot fork. I had the cubano, which was tasty and pickly, the way I like it. We were intrigued by the donuts, which they hype on the board over the counter. We asked the waitress how they were; she sounded a little ambivalent, but we couldn't tell if it was her hipster nature or really she was not excited by them. I asked her whether they were cake-y donuts or puffy donuts and she said they were sort of in the middle. Despite all these warning signs, we ordered a half dozen to go, of different flavors. They were very pricey (a buck per donut, even though they are just one bite each). They were truly awful donuts; nothing sweet about them, but just doughy and soggy messes. read more

This place is a blast from the past. Remember when it was okay to eat breakfast anytime of the day and not get a weird look? Jelly is a safe place for people that want to eat eggs and pancakes for lunch. Oh and it's good food too. The decor and ambiance were big selling points for me too. It reminded me of my childhood as there was cereal boxes from the 80's all over the walls. There are also garbage pail kids lining the men's restroom. A blast from the 80's for sure. If I hadn't gone to Snooze two days after here, Jelly would have gotten an higher rating. It was our first day in Denver and I Yelp-ed to see what looked good. Everyone said the wait at Snooze would be forever on a weekend, so my husband and I drove over and checked out this location of Jelly. Got seated right away at the awesome Scrabble-tile counter. The coffee was excellent. I should have gotten a latte or cappuccino as they looked quite tasty as well. The menu is overwhelming with awesome looking choices. What I originally wanted was the sweet potato hash, but ended up going with the breakfast sliders. One was OK while the other was amazing. The amazing one was the one with the goat cheese and pesto. Delicious. The bread was also great. It came with potatoes which were eh. I kept adding salt to them but they didn't really ever taste that good. I also got a biscuit with jelly because well...when in Rome. I loved the jelly because it wasn't too sweet and had a great flavor. It was quite tasty when paired with the butter. Now it wasn't a classic southern biscuit that I'm familiar with, but it was still quite tasty. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and I'd go back again whenever I'm back in down. read more

This place is alright and a little over-hyped in my opinion. Not saying the food was terrible but it was definitely NOT impressive. It's really not worth the wait. When my friends and I got here for brunch, there was about a 15 minute wait (seriously?? for mediocre food?). The place has a retro decor, which is cool, but I prefer to rate based on entire experience (with my rating skewing towards how good the food tastes). I ordered a cold brew + smoked salmon eggs benny. Friend ordered a classic eggs benny and BF ordered their cold brew + doughnut holes + some kind of hash and eggs (he eats a lot). Cold brew was alright. Comes with a free refill which is nice but not needed since they give generous portions of coffee. It also wasn't super watery which is also nice. The smoked salmon on my eggs benny was smoked to the point of cooked (vs. what they use in sushi and what you buy at the store). It might as well have been cooked because the cooked salmon flavor overpowered the smokeyness that was supposed to be there. Also, the menu described the side of potatoes as "rustic" potatoes. They sure as hell weren't rustic to me (or my friend who also made note). It looked as if the red potatoes were just pan-fried. They also came with a dollop of sour cream, which was not specified in the menu. Meh. Not a fan. This was the same for my friend's classic eggs benny. The biggest disappointment were the doughnuts. How are you going to call yourself Jelly (as a reference to jelly doughnuts) and have crappy doughnuts? SERIOUSLY? BF ordered a mixed batch of doughnuts-- jelly filled, salted caramel, and orange creme. NONE of them were good. The jelly filling was too sour. The salted caramel had too much sauce and since they put it on one plate, the orange creme and caramel sauce ended up mixing and tasted wayy too sweet. I had the Mexi Scramble (dish of the day) and it was so interesting, unique, and tasty that I was tempted to ask for another order. This is a cute little restaurant right at the heart of Denver's university scene, and it was definitely busy for a Friday in the late morning. But we were seated right away, so that was a huge plus. The staff were all super cheery and had on big smiles most all the time. They were working hard, too! Our coffees came out right away and were very good. We found out that they serve Kaladi coffee, which is from the roaster just a few doors down the street. I ordered a cafe latte, which had absolutely DIVINE foam -- much better than even Kaladi's itself! My friend got an Americano, which she said was too watery. For some reason, our server offered my friend a free refill (even though she didn't complain), and she said the second Americano was much better. It took us FOREVER to get our entrees. I estimate that we waited about 30 minutes between coffee and food. The restaraunt was definitely busy, and it's possible that our order got lost for a while. In the mean time, the wait staff did a great job of keeping our waters full and even offered my friend that free refill (maybe to make up for the delay?), so we weren't feeling totally neglected. It was worrisome, though, because we had parked in a 1-hour zone (the lot for Jelly only has about 5 spaces) and were a little afraid of parking tickets. My friend ordered the farmer's scramble, which has tomatoes and goat cheese. I tried it, and it was absolutely delicious! The goat cheese was tangy and creamy, and the tomatoes had a sweet, sun-kissed quality to them. I would definitely order that one again in a heartbeat. My entree, however wasn't as good. I got the sweet potato hash with eggs sunny side up. It definitely had a healthful, rustic quality, but the flavor just wasn't quite there. It was a lot of large-ish pieces of vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, onions, and bell peppers with the occasional piece of chorizo) mixed up together with nothing to really unify them. Because of their size, it was hard to get a bite with a bit of everything. The chorizo was the best part, but there wasn't enough of it to get some with every bite. The dish might have benefited from some sort of gravy or sauce to bring the hash together. Or maybe it would have been more successful if they'd diced the veggies into smaller pieces. The biscuit that came on the side was only okay in flavor (I've had much better biscuits elsewhere), and made the dish really heavy when combined with all the starchy root vegetables. I should have picked toast instead. I left about a third of the hash and half of the biscuit on the plate. All in all, we had a very good breakfast experience here. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and trying a few more of their offerings. Based on tasting my friend's scramble, I think it was just a fluke and I probably just happened to choose the worst item on their menu. Ok, this location's review is very different from the one in cap hill. The space here feels larger, it might be the bright windows or the larger lobby area - which is really cute. I also like that they have some standing bar areas so there's places to hang while you wait - because you will always wait. And this is where this location doesn't live up to the original. We ordered coffee for our wait, and while it took a while - that's ok, but the coffee was burnt and undrinkable. Which is pretty sad for a trendy breakfast spot. Meanwhile the food here was just ok. They were out of the Curry Tempeh Hash (on a Friday morning at 10am?) So instead I ordered a Harvest Hash (the only other veggie hash option) and my guy got the Pork Belly Hash special. He liked his, mine was ok. The choice of rutabaga, turnips, and brussel sprouts... for breakfast struck me as odd, could be good, could be bad. I was optimistic and ended up very underwhelmed. The portion size was a joke and while the veggies were cooked well, the flavors were very odd especially with an egg on top. Didn't really want to eat it. My guy said the Pork Belly was really good though. So I'll stick to the breakfast sliders or plain breakfast if we end up here again. We did get an order of fresh donut holes - jelly and maple bacon, which were delicious. The donuts never disappoint. read more

I will drive to snooze instead of going to this place, even though this is literally only 4 blocks from my house. Why? Well, I can only speak from the perspective of the gluten-free items, but here we go... The donut holes: while it's appreciated by celiacs worldwide that restaurants are making an effort with the gluten free thing, I don't understand why they don't dedicate a separate fryer. It makes the entire gluten free aspect literally worthless for a celiac sufferer. Case in point: I was miserably ill all day after eating a few. Which would have been one thing had they been worth it; however, they were doughy little gummy balls, dabbed with a tiny bit of topping that wasn't enough to mask the strange flavor. Boo. The basic breakfast: you redeemed yourself with the many options you provide, and many are made GF with a substitute of gluten free bread. The GF bread used here had some kind of seeds in it and was pretty tasty. My eggs were perfect and the potatoes are good, not deep fried, and well seasoned. The cinnamon roll pancake: this is where, if you are a Snooze pancake fan, Jelly will fall short. First of all, they charge extra for GF pancakes (snooze does not). The cream cheese frosting on top needed to be more pourable; as it was it was sticky and dry. The pancake itself was also dry (I had to drink my entire water glass to get it down), and their options are extremely limited in comparison to snooze. In conclusion, I guess this place is fine if you want a good basic breakfast with a long wait in a kitschy environment, but I would NOT recommend the gluten free items. I found Jelly after realizing that it was too late to go to Snooze (lines get long) and I wasn't in the mood for Racines again. There are apparently two Jelly restaraunts, although I've never been to the other one. This one is on Evans near the DU campus. Jelly has really good breakfast food that is different than the usual fare. I had the Molly Hot Brown, and it was literally one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had. My kids liked their pancakes, and my wife was a fan of the scramble she had. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The one thing that I would say is that they do these homemade donut holes. They are kind of featured as a specialty, so we got the big order with all the different flavors. I found them to be very basic and not very flavorful. My kids, who can't get enough of donuts, didn't bother with seconds. I'd skip those, but the regular breakfast dishes are delicious. Much of their stuff is nontraditional, although you can turn anything into the basics if you wanted. They have several kinds of scrambles, and three different kinds of biscuits and gravy. Their menu is online. Check it out. The space is loud, but not ridiculous. Just fine for the kids, although getting them down the aisle can be a challenge since they are not wide and filled with chairs, and servers, and so on. They have a kids menu, which was well priced, and it doubles as a coloring sheet with crayons. Parking lot is tiny, so you'll probably end up on the street in the local neighborhood. read more

The only good thing that happened today is that we're able to get on the waitlist via yelp from home. After that it all went downhill. Once we we seated we ordered coffee... it came out and I'm telling you it was the worst coffee I've ever had. I don't know if it was burnt or old or just really crappy... but no amount of cream and sugar could mask it. We let the server know and ordered some alcoholic beverages instead. These drinks were okay. Then our food got there... I ordered the breakfast burrito. The pork inside was sparse and what was there was very burnt. Didn't taste good at all. The rest of the burrito was loaded with soo many eggs it was gross. On top of that there just really wasn't much flavor going on in the plate. Very under seasoned. While we were sitting we could see the line cooks working in the back. We observed them eating food from their bare hands and continuing to cook while eating. One of them also had very long hair the was not pulled back. Gross! Then at the end when they brought us the bill the coffee was still on it. Kinda rude seeing as we did t drink it at all and we order way more expensive drinks instead. I'm disappointed. This place is utterly delicious! We tried a couple of the donuts and all of them were so tasty! Then I got the biscuits and gravy that had the cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and caramelized onions. The biscuits were fluffy and the grave was very good. Served with rustic potatoes which were the right touch of crispy. The wait wasn't long. Good location. read more

Today is my 30th birthday. I called about a week ago to ask about whether or not I could make reservations for my birthday. I spoke with the GM Annie. She informed me that they don't take reservations, but said that she would be willing to reserve a table for me. She was so nice, and so friendly over the phone. She told me that they would plan to create a Vegetarian special for me, and have free donut bites for the table. She just asked me to call her on Saturday morning to confirm the headcount, which I did. When I talked to her yesterday morning she confirmed with me that it would be no problem to hold a table for my party of 11. So, there was a huge snowstorm this weekend and driving was crazy, but 2 members of my party were able to arrive 15 minutes prior to our agreed upon time of 1pm. I arrived at 1:05 pm. In the 20 minutes that passed between my 2 guests arriving and my arrival, the hostess tried to ascertain from one of my guests if the part was still going to be 11. The guest said that she wasn't sure how many people were coming, and said that maybe it was 6, but that the hostess should wait and talk to me. But, she didn't wait and instead gave away our tables prior to my arrival at 1:05 pm. I understand that the restaurant does not take reservations, but the problem I have with this is that the GM Annie made a promise, and then did not keep it. I also can totally chalk this up to a big misunderstanding/miscommuniction, and would have been okay with the GM Annie making a sincere apology instead of and arguing with me. She accepted no responsibility for the mistake, and instead proceeded to blame me, remind me that they do not take reservations, and tell me that not only was she doing everything she could to get a us a table but she was also comping other parties to get them to move tables to make space for us. I call BS! I walked in at 1:05, my guests began to arrive at 12:45, and we were not seated until 1:55pm. The food was awesome and delicious, our waiter was gracious, kind, and patient. The hostess was obnoxious, and the GM Annie should not be a manager. She was rude, unkind, and exceptionally unpleasant. She did bring by 2 sampler plates of donut bites (with a steaming hot side of bitter resentment that you could palpably feel oozing out of her every word) for the table after I think she overheard me telling my mom about the whole thing. But no part of our meal was offered to be comped, and certainly no apology was made for the mistake. Then they added 20% gratuity into the tickets. As if they believed we would actually be tacky enough to not tip the waitstaff. Not only did the waiter get his 20% auto-gratuity, but then we each tipped him on top of that at least 20% more. He got a 50% tip from me. My entire party was appalled with the GM Annie's behavior, as the majority of us work in the service industry, and we know what it takes to be kind to a customer. It's not hard, and it doesn't take much, and an apology is so easy. If you don't take reservations...fine...DO NOT ACCEPT RESERVATIONS. I will go somewhere else where I can make a reservation. Do not tell me that you will hold a table for my party, and then give it away and make me wait for an hour. Rude, Rude, Rude! read more

J = Jam packed...wow! Fortunately, when my boyfriend and I met my parents for brunch at 9:30 am on a Saturday, we were seated within 20 minutes. However, this cute cafe, became more and more packed as we sat, sipped coffee and ate! I can see why this place is so popular! E = Excellent food. holy. I'm obsessed with bendicts and the salmon bene here does not disappoint! Skeptical of their name, we ordered the jelly doughnuts and wow. Amazing little balls of dough drizzled in fresh jam. mmmm! Definitely try the scrambles, pancakes and oogle over their breakfast potatoes! L = Lunch or Breakfast is served here, so if you're just not craving anything with eggs or syrup, check out their lunch options :) the salads and sammichs looked delicious! L = Limited parking. I failed to realize they only offer street parking, so park in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk. Y = Yester year vibe. Not only are the walls brightly painted and the furniture is modern/vintage, old school cereal boxes are framed on the walls. how cool!! i mean who wouldn't want a bowl of Erkle-o's? U = University style! I have to admit, I'm a tad jealous that the DU students can strut down the street to this cafe. What a place! I visited this cool diner spot near University of Denver for breakfast with some colleagues. Cool, funky throwback interior with 70s/80s Saturday morning cereal boxes lines the wall and in the mens restroom, Garage Pail Kids cards line the wall. I had the southern biscuits and gravy with eggs, it was par, biscuits were a tad dry and gravy wasn't hot enough but savory, good and fulfilling!! Also had a mimosa- definitely get the mimosa and have bottomless mimosas during the week! I will definitely be back, a good breakfast spot and great menu! read more

If you don't mind waiting for brunch and want some decent food go to Lucille's or Snooze. My girlfriends and I came on a Sunday morning for brunch and we were told the wait was one to one and a half hours and ended up being the latter. The Bloody Mary was the worst I've had....it tasted like tomato juice with zero spice and hardly any vodka. If you're looking for a brunch drink order something else! Once seated we ordered one of each donut....they were meh not really anything I'll order again. All of our breakfast dishes were mediocre and our waitress rarely checked in, which we should've expected from her since we had to ask for silverware from her after we were seated. The best part was when I checked my bank account later that day and noticed I was charged twice! Our waitress never mentioned an accidental charge, so I'll have to take some time out if my day to call and inquire. I'd suggest taking your time and money elsewhere. read more

This is an amazing place to get breakfast. Sam W was really what sealed the deal on this experience. I asked for a hot cocoa and was greeted in a visually stunning and incredibly tasty cocoa in record time. Her anticipation of needs and wants was beautifully timed. After I ordered, she made sure I didn't have to ask for anything else. She was pleasant and gave our table just the right amount of space/attention. On top of her impeccable customer service, the food was amazing and fast. The general manager was so busy table touching/taking care of the needs of the staff that I wasn't able to give her this compliment in person.
