My wife and I went to Jennie's for the first time last Saturday with some great friends of ours. We had heard good things so we wanted to try them out. It was a busy night. The service was slow, we waited quite awhile between appetizers and our entrees, and when my ravioli finally came out they were not meat, like I ordered, but cheese, which I cannot eat. You know what? It almost didn't matter. The wait staff and management were FANTASTIC, apologized profusely and were attentive to all of our needs. Management made things right, and, even though I had to take my meat ravioli "to go" they were amazing. Jennie's staff's service recovery was awesome and I am very grateful. EXTRA SPECIAL shout out to our server, Alicia, who was apologetic, caring, warm, concerned and funny. She totally helped turn our experience around. We will definitely be going back! read more

What happened to this place?? I was here 4 years ago and the food was OK. Not great, but good. Last week, the food took way too long to come out. Dinner was brought to the table one plate at a time, with significant wait time in between. There were 5 of us. My friend finished her dinner and I hadn't even been served yet! Fried calamari was soggy, not crisp. Looked and tasted as if it were previously fried, then sat around, then re-heated in a microwave. Inedible. Mussels were a little rubbery and smelled fishy. Mac and cheese was runny, like they used way too muck milk and hardly any cheese. Chicken tenders were like the calamari, with a bottle of Tabasco poured over them. The people at the next table could smell it. I must say the wait staff were polite, and kept apologizing about the long wait times and poor quality of the food. We just had my daughter's first communion luncheon there in their private room. Everything was AMAZING from the food to the service. My family kept on raving about everything. Additionally my youngest has a lot of food allergies and they were so kind and attentive. Honestly, it was a fantastic experience. read more

I heard so many good things about this place I had to check it out. So disappointing. Waited 2 hours for the food. A pizza a salad and a chicken dish that was wrong. Waitress kept blaming the kitchen and we kept seeing other people who came in after us getting their food before us. Never in any restaurant have I waited 2 hours. My friend didn't get her salad when everything came out and at that point she was so fed up she said forget the salad. they said they would take it off the bill which they didn't we just paid and left. Never again. In these times you better step up your game in this business or it will be your downfall unfortunately read more

Nice ambiance but went there Saturday night for dine in. The restaurant was clearing out. Looked like a couple large tables just finished. We sat (2) of us. Looking through the menu. Put them down and waited for at least 20 minutes and no one came to our table. Waitresses passed us and never acknowledged us. We got up and left. Service is awful. read more

Ok boys and girls, it's now not just a run of the mill pizza joint! At-ta, is a full fledged restaurant with a bar and full (we'll get into that) restaurant. Showed up today , Wednesday the 9th of June little after 6pm. Asked if bar open, yes, can I eat at bar, yes. SAT down ordered martini, time was happy hour, cool - good mixologist, menu did not have what I wanted - asked what I wanted. Ok, I asked; sole delablo with potatoes - talked to chief and yep can do. Second martini (Tanqueria dry, up with olives {late lunch}) meal came. F A N T A ST I C!!!! Whole check was $67 including tip. The food here was good- my husband loved his eggplant parm amd my mussels and clams fea diabolical was very good- it's only 3 stars because the service was soooo slow and no one came to explain why. I am not someone who arbitrarily gives a negative review to an establishment. In today's world, it's hard to not root for an independent and family owned business. Unfortunately, we experienced the worst dining extravaganza this Friday night. It took 30 minutes to get our first drinks. It took an hour and 45 minutes to get our food. The food itself was not great or even good. Apologies were offered and management seemed to be genuine and hard working people. It was certainly an off night but looking through recent reviews, they need to figure some things out. read more

Decent food, horrible service. Restaurant was busy when we went but not full. It took about 15-20 minutes to be acknowledged by the waitress, and then another 10-15 minutes to get the drinks we ordered. We were able to order appetizers a short time after that, which then took about 30 minutes or more to show up at our table. During this wait we decided to order our meals, thinking that might cut down on the wait time since we still hadn't gotten our appetizers. Mind you our waitress hadn't been by in some time so first we needed to ask someone to let her know we wanted to order. After the appetizers came it took another 45 minutes for the dinners to come. At no point during this wait were we acknowledged by our own waitress to address the long wait or even see if we wanted refills for our long empty drinks. Another waitress came by a couple of times to let us know it would be very soon and the kitchen was just busy, though looking at other reviews it seems as though this is the normal pace. I also noticed a table seated next to us 20 minutes before we left was still not acknowledged by the time we were leaving though our waitress was standing just behind me, close enough to clearly see she had another table waiting. In all, what was supposed to be a somewhat quick dinner out turned into a nearly 3 hour meal. As good as the food was, I would be incredibly hesitant to return unless the overall service were to appear to improve. read more

I've always loved Jennies. Jennies used to deliver pizza every Friday to my job when I was like 19/20 yrs old a lot of years later (more than 10) they are still one of the best pizza restaurants. Love everything they have so far. Their grilled chicken I love so that on anything is good. Their Caesar salad is great and of course their pizza. Pasta is good. Filling but hardly satisfying, Jennie's has truly hit an all time low. Anyone with a semi decent palette for Italian food will cringe. I've written this review after my third takeout order. I cannot comment on their pizza. It was once a culinary stronghold on good Italian food- no longer. You are getting less than what you pay for. But the line is long for curbside. Me being 40 and from Bridgeport everyone says you must of had pizza from Jennie pizza,i wasn't too sure,so i decided to take a ride to Monroe (where its currently located) and as soon as my special works pizza came out it brought me back to my childhood,the crust was bubbly and perfect,the works were piled on i had to use a fork and knife to eat it...its so perfect,definitely stop in for take out or eat in the supriseingly elegant dinning room for a family dinner. read more

I had three of the absolute worst pizzas know to mankind this weekend from Jennies. I honestly don't understand how they are still in busuness if these were a representation of what they cook. Our search for the best pizza in Monroe has finally come to an end tonight after trying Jennie's Pizza. My husband and I moved to the area about a year ago from NY, and we've been searching for that delicious slice ever since. We even took a drive to Frank Pepe's in New Haven, which was mediocre and nothing to write home about. Growing up in NYC, I consider myself a true pizza snob. Jennie's exceeded all of our pizza expectations. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio, well done pie with a crispy crust. Overall delicious pizza. My husband ordered the small margherita and I had the small cheese.. oh, and I couldn't forget the cannoli. Everything was amazing. Can't wait to return! read more

I want update my review on Jennie's pizza. I have checked into this place over 25 times, and, it was my go to place for local take-out pizza. It never rivaled the New Haven bunch, however, it was a good place, easy to get to, and offered value for the price. The last two times, it's been a different story. The previous order was not good at all. I figured every restaurant has an off day, but, today was another bad day. The pizza has been tasteless, very bland. I would think someone may have changed to recipe; it's just not the same as it used to be. I hope the owners try their own product and make the adjustment to bring back the great flavor it once had. Jennies Pizzeria, which has been at its Monroe location for over 10 years now, has been serving Italian food to Fairfield County for over fifty years. Now a days instead of their sit down dinners that many people were used to, they handle solely take out orders and catering. And regardless of this change, this CT icon has not lost on quality. This review for me is something from the heart, because I literally grew up on this pizza. It was, and still is, the epitome of what pizza SHOULD taste like. Everything from the crust, to the cheese, to the toppings is perfection. Their pizzas are great when they're hot and still great when they're cold. Yes folks, they are perfect even for a cold midnight snack or for breakfast. (unless you ask your doctor) The ordering is even as good as it gets. You don't order a large cheese pizza, you order a large scamorza. (pronounced "sca-moats") That is the sign of a true Italian pizzeria. If you want to have the flavors really tight, order it well done. Most people think this is burnt, because most commercial places tend to not fully melt their cheese and cook the crust. So if people like it cooked a little more, these poor excuses for pizza places do end up burning their pizzas. I don't know what else I can really say about Jennies other than to just go out and experience true Bridgeport pizza, just now in Monroe. I wish I could have this pizza now that I live in Texas, but only on visits will have to do. And if anyone asks you what dreams are made of, its a large scamorza from Jennies with sausage, onions, roasted red peppers, black olives, and extra garlic... cooked extra well. read more

My preferred go-to place for takeout pizza and a very reliable source of "feed a crowd fast" Italian catering.  Here's why: Consistency - The place has been in business forever. They have their recipes and perpetration processes down to a science.  I've been a customer for about 14 years now and they never miss.  Honestly - not once! Quality - I guess being family owned and area based forever has allowed the management to master their ingredient supply chain.  Whether it is pizza or menu items, everything is fresh and seemingly well thought out.  If you like sausage, for example, try theirs on a pizza.  Other meats in the entree list are also flavorful and high quality.  Soups are obviously home made and prepared in with fresh ingredients in traditional Italian ways.   Last point on quality is the packaging.  Sounds silly, but everything down to the pizza boxes has been carefully selected in this place.  Box is sturdy and well insulated.  This allows a firm surface to keep the pie level while providing the best chance of arriving where it is going hot and flavorful.  You have to admire little stuff like that. Taste - Saved the best for last.  All their effort pays off in your mouth.  The food is excellent!  Best I can describe it is artisanal in classical ways.  Don't expect any cutting edge creativity here, but don't expect the standard presented in standard ways either.  What you will find is traditional Italian cuisine prepared in ways that accent what is fresh and available in the marketplace. read more

Went on a Thursday night to check out the new dining room. It's nicely done. But what we thought would be a quick dinner turned into a long night. Our food took almost an hour to arrive! Our waitress's excuse was that they got slammed with Take out orders and they get priority over the dining room! Can that be true? If so, not a smart way to run a business and they shouldn't have expanded into that new space if they can't handle it. Loyal Jennie's customer who had their best pizza tonight for the first time. Absolutely fantastic!! The special of the month- goat cheese, pears, carmelized onion, balsamic glaze and spinach. Sounds odd? Trust me it is an incredible combination of sweet, bitter, onions etc. We hesitated to order and destroyed the pizza like we were going to the electric chair Order it!! I hosted my daughter's 8th birthday party at Jennie's dining room and it was spectacular. The girls had a great time in the large, spacious room enjoying dancing and face painting. The staff was very attentive and patient, considering we had 35 8-year-old girls in attendance. As a self-proclaimed pizza snob born and bred on Brooklyn, NY pizza, Jennie's pizza was fresh, delicious, and the crust perfectly thin and crispy. The catered food we took home was also exceptional. On a trip from California, visited Jennie's to buy cannoli and had a very friendly conversation with the owner about Jennie's history and food menu. Re-visited within the week with friends and family. I was pleasantly surprised how charming the dining room was. Nice embellishments, bright and clean throughout. Our waitress, Lisa, was gracious, warm and adept in her handling the group members and our order. The menu was extensive and inviting. Everyone in our family enjoyed their food and and had a nice time, with several commenting that they would like to come back. I must say, Jennies has the best calzones in the area. Unfortunately, lately, not so much. They usually put a decent amount of spinach but the last few times it was a very tiny bit and the last one it was left out completely. The sausage, pepper, and onion calzone was a joke. It was an additional dollar and change for each item. Very small amount of sausage crumbs, and you could barely find or taste the tiny pieces of peppers and onion. I usually order an extra cup of sauce. 3 times in a row, I paid for it and it wasn't in the box. The last time I asked them to open the box to be sure it was there before I left...it wasn't! They cut back on the ingredients and raised the prices. I don't mind the price going up if they still gave you what they used to. I would like to be able to taste what I'm paying for! read more

Not a bad little Italian and Pizza joint. Stopped while in town for a quick dinner. The actual "dining room entrance" is a little confusing. They have a door that says "dining room" (yup..that is self explanatory) but, the entire glass is covered w/ this smoked glass look. Makes you feel like you can't just walk right in. Kinda awkward. Hubs and I sat in a small table as soon as you walk in, and just wanted some apps and soup. There was only 1 waitress handling all the tables, took her a while to get to us. We weren't in a hurry...but she def could have used some help. I ordered the baratta and meatball special . I really enjoyed the baratta, however the meatballs were tasteless. Not seasoned, and not deep fried for the nice crispy outside. I ordered pasta fagioli (red?) and didn't even know that was an option LOL. It wasn't too bad. Hubs ordered the calamari and loved it. Overall, they should really have 2 waitresses on seeing how every table was full. The young highschool aged girl who was bussing the tables was doing a great job- but for the love of god someone give her a bus tub- so she doesn't have to make 10 million trips! :) read more

Never order slices here. We ordered 4 slices (2 pepperoni, 2 regular), which came to $11. When we looked at the menu it turned out a full pie was $12. Just when we were about to switch to a full pie, we see the girl that took our order take 4 slices wrapped in Plastic wrap from the fridge. Seriously! They were going to charge us $11 for leftovers.
