Updated review since my original was for their old Monroe location. We had a reservation for a group of 11 and were seated right away. Our server must have been very new since it took him over 10 minutes to get our drink order and then we waited another 10 minutes for our drinks. He ended up forgetting one and that increased our wait to 15 minutes. we didn't order appetizers and put our dinner order in. we waited for almost 45 minutes before we were served. Food was very disappointing, nothing like it used to be. Other large groups in the room that were seated after us, got their drinks, appetizers and food before us. They got their checks before we were served dinner. My only conclusion is our server was not on the ball. Going to take a lot to convince me to come back. read more

Updating based on catering this time. Moved to a larger location in newtown. PARKING - inside a mini strip mall so ample spots CATERING MENU - not super extensive but there is plenty to choose from. Lots of Italian specialty dishes that are popular for catering. PRICE - compared to the surrounding area the prices are great. At least 20% lower than other places. Dropped in for dinner and didn't realize how busy this restaurant gets. We were able to sit at the bar for dinner and glad we did! Service and food were outstanding. The bartender, Marco was so pleasant and every employee was attentive and worked together so well. I ordered the Cavatelli so fresh and the perfect oil and garlic ( not greasy).we also ordered pasta special Pappardelle and short ribs, pasta was so light with the rich, hardy sauce. Why has it taken us so long to visit Nostrano's? This is what I asked myself and my family after our wonderful Saturday night meal here. We made reservations the day of and good thing as it was a busy evening! They have a wide range of cocktails to start with and I was ecstatic when I saw a Pisco sour on their menu. Love this drink and they did it perfectly! We started with arancini and meatballs for appetizers. Then for dinner had pasta dishes. Kids loved their meals and raved about the sauce. I was in heaven with my pappardelle pasta dish- it was melt in your mouth good. There is no doubt since we live locally that we will not be back. Used to really like this restaurant, particularly their chicken parm. and service. Maybe they're under new management. If so, it's not for the better. No one seems in charge there. Waited close to an hour for a salad for my wife and chicken parm. for me. Their excuse was the restaurant was very busy. It wasn't. The artichoke app. special was soggy and without breadcrumbs, with nothing but tasteless cheese over them. The salad had too much dressing and the chicken parm. wasn't the same- reheated and tasteless. It will be awhile before we try it again. read more

Wanted to try a new place for Friday night. It was relatively busy. The waiter was attentive, our app and food took some time to come out, which our waiter did apologize for the delay. I wasn't thrilled with the braised rib pasta dish, it was a bit bland but it was a cream sauce. Good atmosphere and updated. read more

Wow, we were looking for fun and easy and found lousy. Glasses on the table when we arrived were covered with greasy fingerprints - we should have left then. Appetisers were fine, both fried (calamari and artichokes) and were rushed out of the frier (done, but barely done). One of the entrees was basically inedible (pasta was rubbery like a weird science experiment gone wrong and sitting in a greasy pool of sauce). Caesar salad had no more than 5 semi soggy croutons and was tiny in a chipped bowl. Ravioli entree had 7 ravioli, which seemed skimpy. Waiter was barely present, I don't know how many tables he had, but the place was only 1/3 full, the wait staff did not seem rushed, just not present. We sat with no water for much of the dinner and had to wait too long for our check. read more

The best place by far to go for Italian food. The food is superb. I had the veal saltimbocca its served over gnocchi. Amazing!!! Jesus is a genius. Excellent chef 5 star. I also had the calamari that was fantastic as well. Excellent table service. The bread they serve is so good and they keep it coming. My wife had the pappardelle and short rib which I had some and it was great pasta cooked perfectly and the short rib just falls apart. Excellent place !!!!! read more

Food , service, vibe, all awesome! We started with the most tender fried calamari I have ever eaten and a side of fried artichokes topped with a lemon ailoi. My husband had a twist on chicken parm, topped with gnocci that were like pillows. I have never had gnocci so light. I had eggplant parm and it was unreal. The sauce was flavorful, the eggplant was thin, not bitter at all. The bread was warm and light, even the olive oil on the table was top notch. I had a glass of house chardonnay with dinner, I don't know who's it was, but it was tasty! Even the music was upbeat and nostalgic. This is my third time there and it's always been perfect. Ok I've been looking for a good Italian restaurant by me and I think I've found the one!! Everything I ordered here from start to end was magnificent! Started with aracini, calamari, and meatballs as appetizers - amazing! Then my entree was a pasta that had chicken and sausages and mushrooms (forgot the name) - also amazing! The entree came in a huge serving so I ended up having a lot of leftovers. One thing I did wish they offered was some bread some sort in the beginning, thought most Italian spots did that but not here I guess. :( But I still enjoyed my meal and would come back! read more

Worth the read!! The portions are always enough to take home leftovers, and the quality of the food is terrific. I love that the Chef's here are happy to accommodate any special orders, as you'll see on my Chicken Milanese (sub arugula for ceasar salad). This is now my favorite Italian eatery in Fairfield County. Authentic northern Italian cuisine made with house-made ingredients and imported fine foods (olive oils, cheeses, etc.). The Pane Cotto was fabulous and had plenty of their homemade sausage and just the right amount of garlic. My mom loved her salmon and veggies, and my bone-in veal chop (special that day) was made Parmigiana style with a ton of red sauce (Milanese with arugula was the other option) and with a side of pasta. Large portions resulted in several take home boxes, so we felt like we got MORE than our money's worth. All this served in a modern atmosphere with a cool bar (which is separate from the dinning area), and a really pleasant staff. I'll be back soon and will bring some friends who will probably be amazed at what they've been missing in the little village of Newtown. read more

Oh. My. Goodness. Run, don't walk, to Nostrano. This was our first time dining in at this establishment. Had a fabulous dinner last night with fabulous service and dishes that were to die for. The risotto special with scallop and shrimp was craaaazy good. Hubby had chicken Parmesan, which he said was the best he ever had. My garganelli was, simply put, off the freaking hook! Seriously brought a tear to my eye. Super friendly staff. Killer food. Reasonable prices. Cannot wait to go back! read more

I want to apologize to Nostranos. I messaged "Georgette R" below, because she gave Nostranos 3 stars (which equates to 6/10) despite saying that she loved the food. She said she gave it that low score because she only got takeout and didn't dine in. This annoyed me, because I hate when people don't understand the review process here, amazon, or anywhere, and screw businesses in the process. Just review the food/experience accurately and mention you didn't dine in - don't give a bad score because you didn't go inside. Anyway I let her know that her review was ridiculous via message, she got defensive, I lost patience and called her low IQ. She then posted screengrabs of our conversation to Nostranos review page attributing the conversation to the owner. At first I found this hilarious because I have nothing to do with Nostranos and she confirmed my suspicions that someone should take her cellphone away. At no point did I claim to be affiliated with the restaurant or lead her to believe that I was in any way, but as we established she is truly low IQ and has no business being on yelp. Anyway, I feel bad that she screwed Nostranos twice now, so I'll post a 5 star review here in effort to cancel out her low score. (She already said the food was great and since her beef was with some random guy on the internet you can just disregard her followup) As for my review, I'd prob give Nostranos 4 or 4.5 stars in reality. Food is great as many have mentioned, and is on the expensive side but par for the course really. It's probably the best high end Italian in Newtown/Monroe area. People compare it to Tambiascos which is cheaper and say that Nostranos gives less food, but I get 2 meals out of it in the 3-4 times I've been here. Not sure if they still do takeout - in the past it was pretty random. Sometimes you'd call and the girl would go check and say they're not doing takeout that day which is annoying. I guess they get too busy. Maybe they stopped because you have dummies like Georgette giving low scores because they didn't eat inside. I find it weird that their uniforms are black tshirts when it's presented as an upscale restaurant but thats really nothing to complain about, just an observation. So all in all great Italian food. But yeah I'd be wary of any of "Georgette R's" reviews anywhere on yelp as she's clearly clueless. read more

AMAZING!! I'm pretty sure this place is now my all time favorite Italian restaurant...and that's saying something since I live in Manhattan. Nostrano's is a small family owned restaurant. I highly recommend making a reservation no matter what day it is. My mom has come with her friends on a Wednesday night and had to wait for a table. The restaurant itself is small; about 15-20 tables max. It's BYOB, $5 corking fee per table (so bring as many bottles as you want). Everything they have on the menu is incredible! My family loves the veal special. For $25 you can choose how you'd like your veal; parmesan, masala, florentine etc. All of the pastas are super fresh and cooked perfectly. The portions are huge so you can probably get two meals out of one plate (if you can control yourself). I loved the red sauce; I can usually picky since my family has our own recipe, but theirs is phenomenal. For dessert the pistachio cheesecake was delicious! Our server was friendly and happy to assist with questions and recommendations. Definitely check this place out with your family, a nice date, or with coworkers! You will be impressed! read more

So so good and great value! After searching for "homemade pasta" this came up I search and was still open, so we went. As it turns out, only the spinach gnocchi is homemade and I'm not a huge gnocchi fan. But we did get the futti di mare, zuppa di cozze, side of fusilli for the children and the mushroom pasta. Everything was delish!! Huge portions and reasonable prices. When the bill for 4 people came out to under $100 I was shocked. I would have easily paid more without thinking twice, answer all had really yummy leftovers for the next day! Will def be back !! read more

This is a long overdue review for we went there when the restaurant was newly opened. They kindly accommodated our order to vegetarian-ize the dish when a vegetarian version wasn't available on the menu. A true sign of an excellent Italian restaurant that is warm, welcoming and where the chef knows the food well enough to not get fazed by requests to make slight alterations to the menu, and still serves up an incredibly delicious meal! Also, the restaurant was packed, and yet they kindly seated us in true Italian fashion, and didn't turn us away, just like we had experienced in popular restaurants through our travels in Italy!
