It's been ages since I've been to feast from the east & if it wasn't for too good to go I may have never gone back. I'm so glad I did. Chinese chicken salad is one of my favorite things in the world and the last time I had it there I was underwhelmed. There was a note that mentioned they were testing out their new sesame chicken salad so I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed it and definitely would be willing to go back again. Service could be friendlier. Ambience basically is an older restaurant, this place must've been here a long time. If you look closely at the positive reviews of the Chinese chicken salad, you'll notice that many of them seem to come from young college students, presumably from nearby UCLA. I say that as someone who went to UCLA myself. When I was in college, I'll admit that I didn't yet have a particularly sophisticated palate or the experience to distinguish truly good food from mediocre food. Having eaten at a lot of great restaurants since then, I can confidently say that this Chinese chicken salad is not something I would consider particularly good. I recently had catered Feast from the East food and was able to try a variety of dishes. The sesame chicken wings were crispy and were a solid appetizer. The spring rolls were also crunchy and had a good amount of delicious filling. The chow mein and fried rice were filling, but nothing too memorable. The Chinese chicken salad was the personal favorite of the group. I had hoped for the orange chicken to be a bit crispier and stronger in flavor, but I found the orange chicken to be okay. My family had a catered event with Feast From The East and all the dishes we chose off of the menu were delicious! Everyone's favorite, of course, was the chicken salad that they're known for. Date: August 30, 2025 Was craving Chinese chicken salad so yelped around (we were at the Mar vista park) and saw this spot had high rate Chinese chicken salad so had to check it out. Stopped by around 2pm and there was two other parties inside. They have a parking lot, however it's paid valet parking so we parked on the street around the corner. Once you walk in, the kitchen and server are ready to help you. Although our guy seemed occupied listening to something. The menu is also right above. I really wish they had prices on their menu because our total came out to over 70$ and that was insane for 3 things. 1. Regular Chinese chicken salad - dressing wasn't bad, however too light in my opinion. It just made my mouth super dry and thirsty. Didn't like that they used the end of the romaine lettuce bc it's so big and hard. Wontons were good but so big it was hard to eat together without cutting my gums. Do love that they had plenty of chicken though. 2. Sesame chicken wings - unfortunately these were a downer. Extremely bland. Asked for some sauce and still wasn't good. Was pretty disappointed. 3. Orange chicken (comes w/ rice) - the kiddos enjoyed this one. I tried a bite. You can definitely taste the orange zest, however, taste very artificial still. Sadly wasn't a fan. All the drinks are can or bottle in the fridge so you have to purchase them. They do have seating inside so you're able to dine in. 2 restrooms but one was broken when we came. Very clean though. No nonsense , nor frills. Straightforward simple salad but oh so delicious. Unlike California chicken cafe, this salad opts to be a little bit more simplistic. No shredded carrots, no mandarin fruit. I really love Feast from the East. I've been getting the Chinese Chicken Salad here for about 25 years, and it's still something I crave regularly. I remember when they used real chicken pieces and you could choose between white or dark meat. Even though it now seems like some kind of shredded/frozen chicken, I keep coming back -- that says a lot. That said, if you're ordering pickup, definitely double-check your order before you leave. I hate to say it, but I've been burned multiple times with missing items -- probably about 50% of the time. It's especially frustrating since I'm driving in from Woodland Hills. It happened again last night: I ordered three extra chickens and only received one. At this point, I know it's on me to check everything before I go, and I will going forward. Vegan options!!!! This is the best salad place ever. The fresher Romaine lettuce ever. I remember coming here years ago when I wasn't a vegan and they used to use iceberg lettuce hated it. The tofu is a little bland, but the dressing and the freshness of the other ingredients work perfectly. They greet you when you come in they personally take your order, no self-serve chaos. Fresh clean bright low music playing in the background. I usually always get mine to go. This is the first time I ate here. The salad is humongously large I had to ask for a smaller bowl because I couldn't finish it. They have plenty of supplies for take home. If you're in the area, don't skip this joint. This place is so good! I normally always get the boneless wings and white rice, literally the best $11 you'll ever spend. You get soooo much food and it's always good and fresh! It comes with this white garlic sauce and sweet chili sauce. I used to get the tempura shrimp but I think they took it off the menu .Today I tried the orange chicken and rice and omgoodness it was so yummy! I love the small feel of the restaurant. Ok, this was my go to please for Chinese Chicken Salad, with extra chicken, wontons, and dressing. I haven't been here in a minute but I was craving it like a pregnant woman. I ordered the regular that now looks like the small with all the extra and an order of potstickers and the delivered to my job this came to about $30.00. The potstickers were cold and old. The chicken me on the salad was dry and flavorless. The lettuce was old and dirty. I ate a fork full of lettuce and it tasted like dirt. My friend ordered two bowls of small chicken salad with water at the cash register. The cashier brought one bowl of salad with two plates, napkins, utensils and tongs to the table. She thought we were sharing a salad. Luckily, my friend spoke Spanish to her and explained that she had ordered two smalls for us to eat separately. As an ESL teacher, I'd suggest she attend ESL classes to improve her English which will improve her attitude, confidence and chances of getting a better job. For a small salad $14 ($13.99), the portion was very generous, price was reasonable, and the salad was fresh and healthy. Nice seating area inside. Bags of won ton and their famous Feast of the East salad dressing bottles were available for purchase. I had always bought this dressing at Costco and miss it. Costco no longer carries it. Like many others, I'd highly recommend the Chinese chicken salad! I got the family-sized salad, and it was perfect for 2 for lunch. It was loaded with shredded chicken and sliced almonds. It also came with a free side of their sugar-free dressing, which I preferred over their regular dressing. Also loved the huge bag of fried wonton crisps that added texture to the salad. I also got the 6-piece sesame chicken wings. It was super delicious-- perfectly fried, lightly seasoned with sesame flavor, and juicy on the inside. We ordered at the cashier and the food came out super quickly despite how popular they are! First of all, the service is still as good as it was 41 years ago; I definitely miss Margarita as she was a staple every time I went there. The ambience is just a little nicer than it was several years ago, kudos to them. As for the Chinese chicken salad, it has changed drastically over the years. I believe they tried to make it a little healthier, which caused it to lose all the flavor. The salad is the same, but the dressing most definitely is missing that tang that it used to have. This use to be the best salad in L.A. It was the nostalgia of my old nieghborhood and the memories of that tasty salad that drew me back. To my horror it v was terrible. The moist shredded chicken meat that I remembered was Tasteless, tough and I could barely chew through it. In the 90's you could see xL pots of boiled moist seasoned chicken. You could actually choose white or dark meat. The wontons are different too. They changed portions sizes and 2 salads were $35!@##$$. We ordered a soda and six wrings, a small salad dressing and it was $67!!!! They have to be kidding, right? Nope. The wings were COLD could have been cooked the day before, we actually ate a few and left the rest. I saw the owner that I remembered from the 90's and said hello and told her I had been a customer since the 90s and used to walk to the location from my old apartment. It brought back great memories but that salad is DEAD and gone. There was no customer service no friendliness no help with the new menu. Food: Let me start by saying I've ordered their Chinese Chicken Salad as a take-out for 25+ years. Obsessed. Service: The staff from counter to back kitchen were extremely rude to me when trying to make my normal order. They treated me like an enemy, and reacted to my requests like "How Dare You." Today I happened to be in Westwood and wanted a Chinese Chicken Salad from Feast From The East. It's been a while since I've been here and boy was I disappointed =( 40 years ago I used to work in Westwood and would have to get a Chinese Chicken Salad at least twice a week, I loved it. Today I had an appointment in Westwood and immediately thought of Feast From The East. Not only did I order a Chinese chicken salad I also ordered some sesame chicken. I even told my family I'd be stopping by to pick up a chicken salad and got them to order food as well. As soon as I opened my salad I knew something was different. 1. The portion size is smaller 2. It used to have chunks of chicken but now it has shredded chicken 3. The wontons used to be light and airy, today they were dark and not airy and there wasn't enough for the salad 4. The dressing tasted like it was watered down. 5. The sesame chicken used to not have a crunchy batter which I thought tasted way better. I'm embarrassed because I raved so much about their food to my family and I let them down. Feast From The East let me down. read more
