This is one of our go to place for consistently good Indonesian Singaporean fusion dishes. We've been coming here since 2018 and thankfully they survived Covid-19, but somehow much quieter afterwards. The good news is the food is still dope. They also serve Vietnamese fusion which is also good. Service can be slow at times as they're usually a bit understaffed but always friendly and chill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cozy with a few small tables and bar seating so best for smaller groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our favorites here are the Hainan Chicken Rice (better than Savoy Kitchen IMHO) which resembles the world famous Tian Tian in Singapore Maxwell Food Centre, the Mad for Garlic Noodle, and the Nasi Goreng which is Indonesian fried rice topped with fried egg. Other dishes we like are the bean sprouts with garlic, tofu family style, mee goreng, and the MG burger. Highly recommended.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Couple blocks away from our place so we gave it a short. Went during lunch time and surprisingly we were the only customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seated quickly and food came out fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean atmosphere so definitely five stars![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was great too, and initially I didn't think it was going to be enough, but ended up taking some Togo! If you're undecided, I highly recommend you choose what I posted. Savory and flavorful. Only thing is I did want to try Minh's pho, but apparently the chef retired and took the recipe with him. Unfortunate! Overall I give it five stars and highly recommend.

Excellent Indonesian/Malaysian cuisine restaurant that has exceptional Hainanese chicken rice and also an assortment of noodle and rice dishes as well as burgers. Service is excellent and also very prompt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior atmosphere is also very cool with posters of rappers (Beastie Boys and Run DMC) as well as other 90s cultural icons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Check it out if you are in Palms! It also used to be a donut shop ten years or so ago.

these dishes are amazing for splitting so you can try more items off the menu. The bo luc lac was well seasoned and slightly sweet, but the real star was the char kway teow! The flat noodles were the perfect qq texture and had great crunch from the vegetables mixed through. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating is on the smaller side, with some additional room at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was very quick because it wasn't busy that night!

I enjoy and never stray from their Lu Rou Fan but was enticed to try the famous burger and finally Postmated it. Imagine spending $20 for burnt food. I don't mind a char but this was rock hard and impossible to eat. Needless to say, the taste of aioli and garlic relish did not come through because of it.

Pork belly with a spoon full of pork the size of peppercorns and one egg. A total scam!!

I just got scammed. Ordered the expensive pork belly and they gave me tiny scraps as big as pepper corns in an egg?! Absolutely a rip off.

4.5 stars! We ordered the Char kway teow and the mee goreng. Both were delicious and had a yummy savory stir fry taste. I appreciated that they cooked each dish to order so I could add filet mignon to the Char kway teow. The only feedback was the dishes were on the salty side. That said, I'd eat there again Service was great and we appreciated their beer and wine selection.

I ordered the organic chicken pho and it wasn't the best pho ever, but it hits if you're in West LA and can't get to the 626 area. The waitress was also very attentive to us.

Came here with a friend for lunch and we both enjoyed the food. The plaza had its own parking lot so it was very convenient. We came around 1 on a Friday and there were plenty of seats. We were helped and seated immediately. They had a variety of south asian cuisine. I got the Char Kway Teao and my friend got the Hainan Chicken. Both dishes were pretty solid and prices were far.

Ask the Community - Mee & Greet

Hi Can the basic goreng be made vegetarian (without any fish sauce or powder)?

I am sure if you ask they can accommodate.

    Do they have vegan options?

Yes. There were a few you can also ask the waitress

I love chinese food, but I can't find a good one that delivers in west la. Any suggestions?

GuYi delivers. I think Northern Cafe may deliver as well - try the different delivery apps (Postmates, Uber Eats, Eat 24, Yelp, etc).

The sambal wontons were delicious and just the right amount of spice. It was the first time I had the Mie Tek Tek Indonesian noodles, which was like chow mein, but with unique spices that I enjoyed. The Cah Kangkung water spinach was also great. (It's like ong choy). While many of the main ingredients could be found in more common Chinese food, the spices were different and sweet and spicy in a Malaysian way. It was delicious and different. The service was really friendly and prompt. It's nice and modern inside. I liked the "antique" type plates which were cute. There's modern music and a cool hip vibe. There's a free small parking lot in front. I'll be back to try other dishes.

Getting a small amount and tasting everything is exactly what I wanted So came here with my wife and got the more expensive tasting menu (the festival feast), and after tasting it, i think the other one would have been better. The best thing that we had was the lekker wings and the rest of the menu was decent but not amazingly flavorful. I would have preferred stuff like chicken satay. I was excited for the beef rendang but it wasn't as spicy or creamy as I expected, the flavor was muted. I would come here again to try something else though. Service was fast and attentive and the ambiance is nice for a good date out.

Tao just happens to be a part of that moment.  We got last minute reservations here, rearranged the time slot, ordered drinks while we waited for a table to be ready and set. I've been here multiple times with an attire of dressing up, dressing down and in between. I would prefer to dress up for this restaurant setting. So please be mindful if planning to visit and put on your look and feel your best fit. Tao is an intimate dim lighted setting with an exotic interior approach. I would suggest dining here for an intimate date, womanly dinner or a treat yourself at night. You may also find some interesting folks here.  I ordered espresso martinis and proseccos while present. Nothing extraordinary here...just some drinks for the occasion and to sip on. For our plates, we ordered the lobster fried rice and the crispy snapper in "Sand" dish. The presentation of the snapper and taste was worthy. Apparently, the crunchy crispy part of the fish tasted like chicharron lol (the way the word was presented was so cute). But hey chicharron can also be prepared with fish honestly. Digital shout out to the chefs for the glorious look of the plate. I was impressed. Our server was busy but yet attentive and sweet. She also treated us with a dessert as we were celebrating a birthday ahha :)  Of course, I will be back. I'm curious to try some more menu items and fill my intimate cup here.

They were not hard at all...and perfectly crisped! -Thai Steak Salad: 5/5 the steak MELTS in your mouth and was not chewy at all. I'm not sure how they were able to make the steak so soft and delicious. -Crying Tiger Lambchops: 5/5 I'm not a fan of lamb, but these lamb chop were deliciouso!! The sauced up lettuce side that it came with, complimented the lamb really well. -Nasi Goreng w/ Wagyu Ribeye Cap: 4/5 This Indonesian fried rice was good, but the Wagyu meat kind of tasted a bit odd, but maybe that's just me because my bf loved it. -Singaporean Chili Lobster: 3.5/5 I wasn't really a fan of this since the based flavor had such a strong tomato/ketchup taste... When I made the reservation, I politely requested if there was a way for them to make the bday celebration special, and I'm glad I wrote that because at the end of our meal, our server brought out a Pandan Crème Brulee: 5/5 !!! We started with the pan-fried pork buns, shumai, crystal shrimp dumplings, xiao long bao, and cartoon sweet custard buns. Everything is made from scratch in their kitchen, which got us excited right away--so many places just steam frozen items and the freshness just isn't there. There's a big window into the kitchen so you can actually watch the chefs making each item specifically for you. The decor inside is trendy and really adds to the experience. There are flowers on the wall that are actually sewn with thread creating designs--unlike anything I've seen before. The seating is all in great shape and not neglected at all. Each table is stocked with soy sauce, black vinegar, chili sauce, and garlic. The staff is friendly and attentive. There's a giant projector screen that comes down along the wall with a projector and LED lighting throughout. I asked and they said they can do karaoke, and they also played World Cup games on it. There are several TVs playing various sports as well. Pan-fried pork buns - 10/10 This was my first time ever having them pan-fried and I'm glad I listened to the waiter's suggestion. The dipping sauce elevated the dish and brought it full circle. Being pan-fried gave them a slight crisp that was perfect. Shumai - 10/10 Just delicious. Crystal shrimp dumplings - 10/10 These were made fresh. I've had these at other dim sum places and it's been hit or miss--sometimes soggy, sometimes the wrapper is hard. That wasn't the case here at all. Perfection wrapped around shrimp. Xiao long bao - 10/10 I've had dumplings at places like Din Tai Fung, and I honestly believe these are better. The broth inside was bursting with flavor and the exterior was fresh and made perfectly. I'll be dreaming of these. Cartoon sweet custard buns - 9/10 These were delicious and so cute. The only thing I would have changed is giving the inside a bit more custard (personal preference--some people might think the balance is perfect). The rest of the bao was cooked perfectly, so soft, and the design made the experience that much more memorable. I highly recommend eating here. This is going to be one of our regular spots from now on.
