This is one of our go to place for consistently good Indonesian Singaporean fusion dishes. We've been coming here since 2018 and thankfully they survived Covid-19, but somehow much quieter afterwards. The good news is the food is still dope. They also serve Vietnamese fusion which is also good. Service can be slow at times as they're usually a bit understaffed but always friendly and chill. The place is cozy with a few small tables and bar seating so best for smaller groups. Our favorites here are the Hainan Chicken Rice (better than Savoy Kitchen IMHO) which resembles the world famous Tian Tian in Singapore Maxwell Food Centre, the Mad for Garlic Noodle, and the Nasi Goreng which is Indonesian fried rice topped with fried egg. Other dishes we like are the bean sprouts with garlic, tofu family style, mee goreng, and the MG burger. Highly recommended.

Couple blocks away from our place so we gave it a short. Went during lunch time and surprisingly we were the only customers. We were seated quickly and food came out fast. Clean atmosphere so definitely five stars! Food was great too, and initially I didn't think it was going to be enough, but ended up taking some Togo! If you're undecided, I highly recommend you choose what I posted. Savory and flavorful. Only thing is I did want to try Minh's pho, but apparently the chef retired and took the recipe with him. Unfortunate! Overall I give it five stars and highly recommend.

Excellent Indonesian/Malaysian cuisine restaurant that has exceptional Hainanese chicken rice and also an assortment of noodle and rice dishes as well as burgers. Service is excellent and also very prompt. The interior atmosphere is also very cool with posters of rappers (Beastie Boys and Run DMC) as well as other 90s cultural icons. Check it out if you are in Palms! It also used to be a donut shop ten years or so ago.

these dishes are amazing for splitting so you can try more items off the menu. The bo luc lac was well seasoned and slightly sweet, but the real star was the char kway teow! The flat noodles were the perfect qq texture and had great crunch from the vegetables mixed through. The seating is on the smaller side, with some additional room at the bar. Service was very quick because it wasn't busy that night!

Pork belly with a spoon full of pork the size of peppercorns and one egg. A total scam!!

I just got scammed. Ordered the expensive pork belly and they gave me tiny scraps as big as pepper corns in an egg?! Absolutely a rip off.

I enjoy and never stray from their Lu Rou Fan but was enticed to try the famous burger and finally Postmated it. Imagine spending $20 for burnt food. I don't mind a char but this was rock hard and impossible to eat. Needless to say, the taste of aioli and garlic relish did not come through because of it.

4.5 stars! We ordered the Char kway teow and the mee goreng. Both were delicious and had a yummy savory stir fry taste. I appreciated that they cooked each dish to order so I could add filet mignon to the Char kway teow. The only feedback was the dishes were on the salty side. That said, I'd eat there again Service was great and we appreciated their beer and wine selection.

I ordered the organic chicken pho and it wasn't the best pho ever, but it hits if you're in West LA and can't get to the 626 area. The waitress was also very attentive to us.

Came here with a friend for lunch and we both enjoyed the food. The plaza had its own parking lot so it was very convenient. We came around 1 on a Friday and there were plenty of seats. We were helped and seated immediately. They had a variety of south asian cuisine. I got the Char Kway Teao and my friend got the Hainan Chicken. Both dishes were pretty solid and prices were far.

Really unprofessional that I showed up during poster business hours, only to discover they're closed, after I already paid for parking.

Ask the Community - Mee & Greet

Hi Can the basic goreng be made vegetarian (without any fish sauce or powder)?

I am sure if you ask they can accommodate.

    Do they have vegan options?

Yes. There were a few you can also ask the waitress

I love chinese food, but I can't find a good one that delivers in west la. Any suggestions?

GuYi delivers. I think Northern Cafe may deliver as well - try the different delivery apps (Postmates, Uber Eats, Eat 24, Yelp, etc).

The sambal wontons were delicious and just the right amount of spice. It was the first time I had the Mie Tek Tek Indonesian noodles, which was like chow mein, but with unique spices that I enjoyed. The Cah Kangkung water spinach was also great. (It's like ong choy). While many of the main ingredients could be found in more common Chinese food, the spices were different and sweet and spicy in a Malaysian way. It was delicious and different. The service was really friendly and prompt. It's nice and modern inside. I liked the "antique" type plates which were cute. There's modern music and a cool hip vibe. There's a free small parking lot in front. I'll be back to try other dishes.

And honestly I personally think the food was not too bad but could be better. The roti was good but small. The haianese chicken was good with the sauce! But the nasi bungkus was wrapped in banana leaf but the ratio of meat to rice portions were very uneven. Theyre was a small amount of beef and lots of rice. The laksa had a fishy smell & taste - as if there was a bit too much fish sauce. Overall, for Indonesian & southeast food it's not too bad. The services were good!

As soon as you walk in, you'll notice every space of this restaurant has been well designed with Asian themed decor. It feels like you are being transported into a different arena with the dark and hint of mysterious power ambiance. On the top level, there is a gorgeous bar. Be careful going down the stairs that lead to the main dining area. The large Quan Yin (Buddhist) statue at the center of the stage that just captivates one's attention. The Quan Yin statue is known for "compassion and mercy - she who hears the cries of the world" to symbolize peace, protection and healing. The service was excellent. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, flowing with positive energy, and happy to be of service. They treat all guests like "friends." As for the food, it was nothing short of excellence as well. It's not easy to master Asian-fusion dishes, but TAO has nailed it.  1. Shishito Peppers (5/5) Large plump shishito peppers that's perfectly cooked - soft, yet juicy. Dip these peppers in their sauce that's a combination of mustard miso yaki and ponzu, which gives it a soy, sweet peanuty wasabi flavor. There is large salt flakes scattered on the plate serving both as aesthetic decoration and practical use  2. Crispy Short Rib Buns (4/5) The steamed buns were soft and pillow-y. The short ribs were tender. The sauce that coated the short ribs was rich in flavor - peppery, tangy/citrusy. There's also a light drizzle of cilantro-mint aioli, which I couldn't really taste because the citrus black pepper sauce overpowered it. I am sure it contributed to the overall flavor profile in some herby way though. Overall, was very satisfying to eat. Each order comes with 3 buns. 3. Truffle Pork Wontons (4/5) Pork wontons served in their unique creation of miso Parmigiano Reggiano broth. I personally felt the pork was a bit chewy and tough, but I am comparing this to traditional Chinese wontons that I am accustomed to. The broth was light, soy-based with a hint of truffle. I did not taste the miso flavor. 4. Wagyu Tartare (5/5) It literally tasted like In-N-out's animal style fries. The Parmigiano Reggiano remoulade sauce was not spicy at all; it was creamy, mayonnaise-y. The shredded Parmigiano reggiano cheese was fresh and very flavorful. As a cheese lover, it was such a joy to eat. It's topped off with fresh dill, which was more for looks than taste. I did not taste the cured duck egg that was noted on the menu description. Will definitely get this again. 5. Spicy Eggplant (5/5) You probably cannot imagine eggplant tasting very good, but at TAO, they know how to make simple veggie into savory-sweet, lightly crispy goodness.  The sauce is togarashi yogurt with soybean chili to give it that creamy, tangy, savory, yet subtle sweetness. Highly recommend (even for those veggie haters out there) 6. BBQ Duck Fried Rice (4.5/5) Never had BBQ duck fried rice before despite growing up eating Asian food. I've had Peking duck countless times, so the concept of making it into a fried rice dish was welcomed. It had a smokey flavor profile. It's cooked with sundried tomatoes and lightly mixed with mint. Comes with a side of lime so that you can squeeze over the rice as you would with tacos. I personally like lime, so I did add some of the lime juice over my rice. I wish there was more duck though - a bit skimpy with the duck meat. 7. 20 Layer Pineapple Cake (5/5) Truly 20 layers; YES,  we counted. Now if you're going to indulge, this is a dessert that's worthwhile. Layers of spongy cake and smooth cream, along with fresh coconut flakes on top. Dip that in some fresh pineapple chunks sprinkled with cinnamon, then chase it down with some milky cream chocolate. Now that's a bite full of goodness. The coconut shaped chocolate has a light milky cream inside. It was fun to break open.  Will surely be back to try out more dishes.
