White half jerk chicken, Mac n cheese, corn
    Martina W.

Had this last Friday. One of my fav jerk places in the city. I love their jerk sauce. The chicken is always juicy and flavored well. The sides are usually what I have an issue with. So this time to be safe, I got the Mac and cheese and corn. Both were decent..the Mac was better than the corn.

I came in 15 minutes AFTER they said my food would be ready. Only to hear worries. I do not want a sorry i want a discount or a recompense for my time. Asking me if I still want my food after I have already paid and waited is asinine at best and negligent at worst. Hearing I'm sorry. Is not enough.

Here in Chicago for a convention and wanted to try something new. I am sure glad that I did! Ordered the Jerk Chicken combo : chicken was amazing , jerky sauce was full of flavor and just right . The sides were perfect , beans and rice and slaw . Ordered a Jamaican ginger beer that hit the spot. Ambiance was a lively sports bar with good music . The service was on point. I will return .

Looks can be deceiving. I ordered to go from here and never again. The "Jamaican jerk" tasted like brown gravy mix - no thanks. The Mac and cheese needs a revamp. I was thoroughly disappointed. The rice and beans were swamped in the brown gravy which were not good. I can't speak to the service or ambiance because I ordered from home but I won't be ordering again. The chicken was tender but they need to remove the brown gravy from the ingredients.

The only positive aspect of our experience at Jerk Villa was its proximity to our hotel. Everything else fell apart: hosting, service, ambiance, and food--I wouldn't recommend it AT ALL. Our server, LaTice, harangued us for payment after ignoring us for over an hour of waiting for our food! As one excited by any shared to #supportblackbusiness, finding this place in a sea of predominantly non-black food businesses tickled my appetite. I was with my family and three Ugandans (straight from Uganda)! We were all in town to run the Chicago Marathon. They wanted a taste of food close to their Ugandan cuisine and palette. We asked to join a table with three other Ugandans already dining. First, we found two hosts at the door and a lady who appeared to be the owner/Main Manager, but none welcomed us "Hi." I know city people can have an attitude sometimes, especially with specific demographics. So, I stepped forward as the American of the group, more familiar with American dining and cultural routines. After consulting the "boss lady," they agreed to join our table with the three Ugandans. We asked to sit us away from the blasting music, with no luck. We could lit. not hear each other by the deafening even if we screamed. Our food order took over an hour--kind of understandable for a Friday, but let your guests know. Until I asked, our server, LaTice, told me it could be another 15-30 minutes, but she wasn't very sure. I said to her it's been over an hour, and she didn't even offer us a glass of water, as is typically the practice while you review the menu. That's when she brought the water. Food came out: curry goat was too salty. And immediately, LaTice brought the check. That took me back. Then she said, "It's cash only." Something not written on the menu, but she could have told us before we ordered. Between bringing food and the check, she came by our table three times, looking at the check. The third time, she said, "I am leaving. Clear the bill now!" Rudely! I had cash to pay for our family meal. The others had cards, so they asked me to intervene. I explained that they were from Uganda and didn't have cash in them. She could have told us at the start that it was cash only. She claimed she had told the party we found dubbing to tell us. I told her, "We ordered with you, not them." Finally, she said, "Give me your cash, and they should give me one card, not a split one." Ms. LaTice was rude and just awful! Treatment that I have experienced before in businesses that serve immigrants --esp some black businesses that serve Africans! Never again! If we had not had VIP food services at Williams next door the night before, my Ugandan friend would have gone back to Uganda believing all the stereotypes about how black people in America treat Africans nasty! Stay away from LaTice! Moreover, she came outside, boasting to her friends how she had given us a tough time...and No! She wasn't in a hurry to leave!

Food was hot but they didn't have everything on their menu at 5pm even though they close later in night. Service was slow for when we placed the order to when we got our food to eat. I went with two other people and we all got our food at different times multiple tvs on with a stage in the front for if a band were to play. Ambiance was fine a little louder than expected. Hard to hear my friends when they were talking.

Was visiting from out of town and with the advice of a family member who lives here, suggested we stop here to eat. Upon entering the restaurant us ladies had our purses checked and the guys were patted down. Not really sure what that was all about, but I guess it was a safety precaution? Once inside we were seated promptly and served water. Our waiter then returned and took our drink orders before we placed our dinner orders. I ordered the Tropical Punch, which I didn't feel had a lot of flavor. For my dinner I ordered the jerk white chicken, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. My husband ordered the jerk catfish fillets with beans and rice and candied yams. I can't rave enough on how delicious everything was. The beans and rice had so much flavor as well as all of the other sides. My chicken was so juicy and the jerk sauce was out of this world. My husband said his catfish was just ok, but he also loved all of the sides. Best meal I've had in a long time. The place was pretty full with groups of people having dinner and drinks and vibing to the music which they have pretty cranked up to almost being too loud to the point that you could barely hear the person sitting next to you. They have tv screens mounted high playing the most recent sports games which was nice to watch while we ate. When visiting Chicago this will be the first place I'm going to want to visit again because the food was so good!

The host seemed to be annoyed. The music is loud. Our waitress was great. They are CASH ONLY but they do have a ATM inside. The host should've told us cash only before having us seated. The Mac and cheese wasn't to my liking, it reminded me of stouffers Mac and cheese.

The service was super quick and my server/bartender was great! It seemed like she barely put my order in the computer and then the food magically appeared. She anticipated my needs and was very accommodating. The food was decent and the wings were generous. I ended up eating all of it! The lime ancho chile rub was surprisingly delicious and you can't go wrong with buffalo wing flavor. She gave me two blue cheese sauces so I was able to douse the wings with more than enough sauce. I ended up taking my dessert back upstairs. I wasn't sure why they called it Grown Up banana pudding but it was a creative spin to banana pudding. It was different but also not bad. I'm still not sure what I think of it. Overall, this was such a convenient spot for dinner (and lunch) while in the area for a convention.

It unfortunately doesn't have most of these anymore, and also doesn't seem to have as large as crowds. The last time here there were only a few others on the rooftop. A good thing about that was service was fast. The prices are unfortunately what have increased. It's about $10 for Long Island iced teas, which used to be cheap. These were still pretty strong though. It's about $9 for shareable bites. We got the Hummus. It came with quite a lot to dip. There was a generous amount of pita slices and vegetables.
