Greens were fair, a little on the bitter side, which isn't my favorite. They could do with a pre-soak and a bit more simmer in the pot. Plantains were delicious. My lady had the goat and ginger lemonade, she enjoyed. The service and experience was awesome. The restaurant is beautiful, airy and well lit. The staff was engaging and helpful with the menu. The staff here is very friendly. The owner sat and talked with me as I waited for someone to arrive. They do have dine in option but it is limited to observe COVID regulations. My first impression of Jerk'd was a positive one, the interior was very welcoming, modern, and nicely decorated. They had a really nice mural that fit so beautifully with the theme of the restaurant. They have a good amount of table for those who choose to dine indoors but if not, to go is always an option. Jerk'd is a modern Jamaican restaurant with a fast casual feel to it. They had the sides hot and ready for those who are interested in making their own platters. These sides included vegetables, Mac and cheese, rice, and they had meats like jerk chicken plus oxtails there too. As I was in the mood to try their vegetarian options, I opted for their Mac and cheese, string beans, carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and cabbage. The Mac was tasty and can see myself ordering it again. The veggies were a little too undercooked for my liking but may be ok for others. I can't believe I've been riding past this place for over a year and never noticed. I live close by but always go to Teaneck for my Caribbean food at least twice a month. We sampled jerk chicken, brown stew chicken and oxtails. The jerk chicken was by far the weakest link. The flavor was ok but the meat itself was dry. Not sawdust dry or anything but some juice needs to flow through meat and it did not. Unlike other Caribbean places, Jerk'D is not at all stingy with the gravy. The oxtails were good but not the best I ever had. The brown stew chicken was solid. I also really enjoyed the variety of sides - beets (yay!), braised collards (meh. Under-seasoned but cooked well), mac n cheese (another top performer), sweet plantain (ripe and perfectly cooked) and fried cabbage (same as the collards). Rice and beans were just right. I had no issues with the price or serving size - except the cabbage. They ran out and didn't bring out more or try to make up for the small serving as they ran out. Otherwise, the food preparer was super friendly & helpful. Cashier was less communicative but decent. Restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Jerk'D won't take the place of my top Caribbean takeout spot but I give it a solid B/B+. If I'm looking for Caribbean and quick, I'd absolutely grab a meal here again. The portions were always a little small especially the chicken. But the food was good so it was ok. But today I found out that they are charging an extra $3.50 for macaroni and cheese with the platter. Insane. Trust me the food is ok but not that good to pay outrageous prices they are charging now. The Jamaican Pineapple Juice (~$3) also caught my eye. They were out of Mac & Cheese at the time but the worker told me it would be a couple minutes. I said that wasn't a problem since I wasn't in a rush. It took 25 minutes for me to get my order... At this point, there were at least 5 or so people also waiting on their orders and it was started to get a bit too crowded inside. After about 30 minutes in total, I got my order and headed it. The Jerk Chicken has great flavor although was a tad dry. I definitely recommend asking them for some sauce on the side. The Rice & Peas were great as well as the Fried Sweet Plantains. I think I got maybe 4 plantains which was disappointing since I absolutely love them. The Mac & Cheese was a complete let down. After waiting 25 minutes specifically for it, I was hoping it would at least come out good. There was no flavor to it and the cheesy sauce was a bit watery. The macaroni was also not 100% cooked all the way, so it was a bit hard. I did enjoy the Jamaican Pineapple Juice a lot! It was sweet and refreshing. It might have been my favorite part of the meal. All in all, I don't know if this was just an off night for them, but the service was definitely lacking. The food could have been much better in terms of flavor. A munched welcomed new establishment to the already diverse restaurant scene in Hackensack. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the environment is welcoming. We wanted to try everything, but held back for another day. I went for the quintessential jerked chicken platter with cabbage and sweet potatoes. We washed our meal down with organic juices made on premises: Ginger Lemonade and a refreshing glass of passion fruit juice. The cherry on top was the bread pudding. I was in the Hackensack área to run an errand and came across this place. The bright colors attracted me and the name " JERK'D" immediately out me in the middle for some jerk chicken. I had the jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantains and had some oxtails as well. Well seasoned and made with Love. It was nothing short of delicious. The tamarind juice washed it down perfectly and I am satisfied. It's been force days since they open and I love the face that it is environmentally friendly. Paper plates, bowls and straws are worthy of an applause. The place is very clean and bright and vibrant Caribbean yellow and green gives the feel of a restaurant in the islands with the reggae playing in the background. I've loved Jamaican food for decades, but I've never seen a restaurant like Jerk'D Modern Caribbean Kitchen. The menu holds many surprises compared to other Jamaican places in Bergen County that are known for their inexpensive ingredients, including chicken from factory farms. At Jerk'D, the chicken is antibiotic free, salads use organic greens, and the menu offers pasta bowls, vegan soups and a vegan burger. I went there for takeout, ordering a Jerk'D Chicken Bowl with 2 sides, Rice & Peas and Cheddar Mac N' Cheese ($10.50), and jerk sauce on the side; as well as a whole fried Snapper Escoveitch with Stir-Fried Cabbage and Roasted Sweet Potato ($22), enough for 2. When I got home, the extra jerk sauce I asked for was nowhere to be found, the reason I gave 4 stars to Jerk'D instead of 5. I loved the whole fish, which was bathed in a peppery vinegar sauce with whole pimento seeds, and shared it with my wife, who had the Jerk'D Chicken. The same workers that are rude will also skimp you on everything but rice if you order online and aren't there watching them plate it.
