Let me start with how friendly the tailor was and overall great service I received. When it comes to the pricing it's just beyond overpriced. I dropped off a suit jacket, pants and a coat. She wanted to charge me $450. I ended up leaving the coat and the pants with her which totaled $225. I was skeptical about the price so I took the suit jacket to a tailor I previously went to in the past. They charged me $55 for the suit jacket. Jerry's tailor quoted me $215!!! Overall I'm happy with the service but I won't go back there even tho I live right around the corner. The prices are just ridiculous compared to other tailors that provide literally exactly the same quality of service. I highly recommend Tailors of Sherman Oaks. Like many 1 start reviews. ASK HOW MUCH BEFORE YOU LEAVE IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME. I took a dress to get taken in at the waist and bottom just a little bit last May. Charged me $180!!! I was naive and young and didn't question it. When I told family and friends they all were stunned and said I was taken advantage of. I ended up paying more the double the cost for the dress. I paid around $700 to have both my navy and grey suit/pants altered. But I didn't get to wear the suits until almost a year later because my event got canceled. I realized 2 days before my event that they forgot to open up the suit pocket on my navy suit, it was still sewn in so I couldn't use my pocket square. I went to a different tailor to get their thoughts on the fit and they found the waist line was still too big and the pants were still too long length wise. If I'm going to pay $700 to alter two suits, I would expect quality and not so many mistakes. I had a lot of friends ask about this place to get their suits altered, but I discouraged them from coming. I would not recommend and have no intention of coming back. But I guess I'm just the outlier compared to all these positive reviews. read more

Make sure to get the rates beforehand! I needed to adjust a compression garment (post surgery) which is way cheaper than buying a new one every 2 weeks. I went in for a quote and the guy told me to not worry about it as he would take care of me and "make me happy" (his words). I dropped off the garment and was charged $104 dollars for the service. Yes, you read it right, $104 ! I guess I wasn't thinking straight and Venmo the payment as the credit card machine was not working. On my way back home (I live 5 min from his shop) I google it and found out a brand new high end compression garment would cost me around $80 and other tailors in the area charge in the $30 range for this type of work. I immediately called to cancel the service and was told it was already done. It literally took less than 5 min. I turned around and went back to pick it up. You could tell by his face, he knew it was not a good practice to over charge a customer that is not familiar with that services. Unfortunately, never coming back, neither friends of family. I had a particularly negative experience here; top to bottom terrible experience. I needed like 4 measurements for a fit modeling contract I was filling out. I had my measurements somewhere but for the sake of time just wanted to run in somewhere. Let me start off by saying I have never ever been charged for measurements. I have run into places about 7 times and as long as the place isn't busy then they are normally like yeah! Also let me mention I had called a closer location, their tailor was out of town and someone referred me to Jerry's and specifically said yeah, measurements are free. I could be totally wrong but a few measurements have always been complimentary. Ok so he starts off by saying his credit card machine isn't working. And I was like oh you are charging me? I was thinking a couple bucks, He said 10 dollars, which seemed like a little much? I honestly was just trying to leave. I said I don't have cash and don't have the time for all this. I was in a hurry. He was blurting about the atm across the street, he said he'd take the measurements then I could go get it, so I caved and got them. This is when it gets good, he starts taking them then literally doesn't know any of the terms!!!! Basic S$!%. Inseam, torso, etc. Every time, says "what is that?" Or "I don't know that." By the 3rd measurement that he responds "I don't know that" I lightheartedly joked, "are you sure this is 10 dollars worth?" His response, vernacular and tone were so mean, just mean. He was basically yelling, saying "yes for my time!" "It would normally be more expensive!" (yeah ok, no) " Everyone has different terms for measurements." These were standard measurements, ones I've gotten more times than I can count. Basic. I responded of course for your time, I appreciate that. But he was such a jerk. I'm going to get new measurements because I don't trust any of them. Also he told me I have broad shoulders. I'm a sz 0, just my vanity showing but not a comment you blast at a woman. Oh! And to top it all off after that atm run, I had identity theft, next charge 800 dollars. So coincidence?? I don't know. Pretty peeved. Don't go here. read more

I don't know pricing of altercations let me start by saying that. I should have asked about pricing beforehand, lesson learned. I went in with two dresses that needed very little alterations. I decided to only get one done the straps needed to be taken in a bit. She pinned it and wrote up the ticket. I thought she said $25.00 dollars and I said ok thinking that was reasonable. On the ticket it says 125.00 I said oh no im not paying that. The dress is cheap I thought you said 25. She mentioned something about her time pinning the dress I said I can pay you 25 for your time but im paying 125. I just wanted to pay her for pinning the dress and go somewhere else. she said it doesnt work like that. she went down to 95.00 dollars which was still a crazy price to me. I felt like the dress was being help hostage she didn't want to give it back to me. I was frustrated and just paid in full. again I don't know how much alterations cost but when I told my mom she said that was very much overpriced. I wish they had a website with an estimation of cost. I don't even want to wear the dress anymore. Giving 2nd Life to Clothes You Can't Part With. I am this way, if I love the clothing item, I will love it to death. I will wear it until it falls apart, and then some, because nothing fits better than this black silk bomber I bought in Italy, except for the ripped lining. Nothing is cozier, warmer and more stylish than this long cashmere cardi, but these holes on the elbows are not so much. The clothing surgeon Jerry for the rescue! He relined my beloved bomber with the emerald green - black polka dots silk. Looks like new! He weaved the threads into the elbow holes so they disappeared without a trace! He is not cheap, the real craft isn't but neither your beloved pieces. If you need the expert tailoring, alterations and repair - Jerry is your man. PS. We've been going to this place for a few years, here and there when my husband needs alterations for pants for some event. This place is clean, has its own parking lot (we always found street parking, in front of the place, free for 2 hours), has a fitting room and they do good work. In the past we dealt with the owner, he was nice. Last time only the lady from the Old World with Russian accent was around to help us. She was a bit like a mean school teacher and starts her sentences with "I can't". I know people from that part of the world so I pushed her to do the work. I also know a bit about sewing and I knew that the alteration was minimal and possible. Her attitude wasn't the best. We left the pants on on Tuesday, she said they'd be ready Friday after 4 pm. I called on Thursday to check on them and they were ready. So, call and check on your order. It'd have been nice if they'd have called to say they're ready for pick-up. Prices - a bit too high in my opinion and you have to pay upfront for orders higher than $20, probably most of the time since small alterations are $29. They do take credit cards. read more

Also was given a hard time for attempting to thin the width out of some pant legs like it was the most impossible job a tailor could do. I must start off by saying that the work they performed was excellent. I had a suit altered: pants hemmed, and jacket sleeves shortened; I was pleased with the results. However, I cannot shake the feeling that I was had on the prize: $129.00 + tax (total $149) for those two items. I have had suits altered in the past at other reputable locations in the SFV for half or less than half of that amount. I only went to Jerry's because it was recommended and people spoke well of their craftsmanship. I don't dispute that. Nevertheless, $129 for hemming pants and altering sleeves still seems excessive to me. I can't seem to justify adding that amount to the cost of a $300 suit, in alterations alone. Lesson learned! I will say, though, that if money $$$ is no object in your situation or circumstance, then Jerry's Tailor Shop is the place for you. read more

I typically go wherever for minor alterations, but there are times when the wrong alteration will KILL your garment forever, so you need a specialist. This place is certainly the right place. Not sure where he got his training, but what he did for me was nothing short of magical. I bought a beautiful jacket a few years back while I was pregnant. It didn't fit me then, but I had my heart set on buying it anyway. It sat unworn in my closet up until recently, and it fit, although was extremely uncomfortable in the sleeves, as they were waaaay too short. I took a chance and brought it to Jerry's Tailor Shop, and was told he could most certainly help me, and even added that I was going to be amazed. Interesting. Of course such work isn't cheap, but again my choices were to take a chance and pay it- or have an unusable item, so I went for it. He had me take a picture of the item to compare the "before" to the completed alteration, and to my amazement- he pulled it off perfectly! I can honestly say his skill level is "magician" and it's nice to know this type of talent exists. read more

Went in here because it's the closest to me. Didn't check the reviews before going in. My only gripe about this place is the price. The guy who helped me was wonderful. The work is GREAT! Was done earlier than the quoted time (Would have liked a call from them. I happened to call and ask that morning if it was ready). So, brought a suit jacket in to shorten the sleeves. When he told me it was going to be $60, I hesitated a little and went along anyway. I needed it done. After leaving, I called around some other local shops, come to find out that they are charging MORE than double of the average of everyone else. He was, however, nice enough to taper the sleeves as well for no additional charge. Still wouldn't have cost this much at another shop. Now, Its been a while since I had a full suit or a suit jacket tailored. However, the place I used to go to in Hollywood did great work as well and didn't charge nearly this much. I have been to numerous Tailors as I have lived in different cities in the US. I have had my fair share of bad experiences in the past so when I moved to LA I needed someone to tailor from my jeans to my suits, shirts, etc. I was recommended to him by a good friend, so again with my skeptism I took him one pair of jeans to start off with, well he did a GREAT job on those jeans that I ended up again, being conservative, taking him 2 pair of suit pants now to taper and tailor. Again those came out just perfect slim and tailored exactly to me that its been about 2 years and I still recommend him co-workers and friends and he has always taken good care of me and everyone I recommend.
