I'm not sure why it took me so long to try Jersey Mike's, as my husband really likes it. Online ordering was really easy, and a loyalty club lets you earn points and receive birthday coupons. If you don't want a sandwich, you can get a wrap or a "sub in a tub" which is a deconstructed sandwich/salad. I'm a carb-ivore, and that rosemary parmesan bread is too tempting to resist. The other breads aren't bad, but rosemary parmesan is the best, hands down. On my most recent visit, I ordered a regular sized #10 tuna, chips, and a cookie, then headed to the restaurant to pick it up. It was ready on time, my order was correct, and the employees were nice. The sandwich was delicious, with a generous portion of tuna salad and the right amount of each ingredient. This Jersey Mike's is in the Harris Teeter shopping center on West Ashley Circle, so you'll find lots of parking and easy in/out at the stoplights. read more

I generally visit the Jersey Mike's on Magwood but thought I would give this new location a chance. I used the app to place my order in advance; like about an hour because I was running errands. Anyway, got there 10minutes before my scheduled time and saw them place my order on the pickup shelf as I walked up. I was greeted with a smile and thanked for my patronage. My sub was pretty standard, but I felt it was a bit light on the deli cuts. However, knowing that it was made so close to my requested pickup time was a real bonus. I mean, really, who wants their sub made an hour early only to sit on a shelf waiting for pickup. I was satisfied in spirit and belly, but a little more substance in that sub would have rendered 5-stars. After all, it was an $18 charge, not including tip. Came here for lunch this past friday afternoon and got what I normally get (Giant Bacon Ranch Chicken Cheese Steak) and started to feel sick some hours later, hadn't had anything but some breakfast before that which wouldn't have caused sickness earlier in the day. As of today, I still have stomach pains and muscle weakness with very minor low grade fever. Service has always been great with more than friendly people behind the counter. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a place of business in my life. The Sunday before Memorial Day I came in here about 15-20 minutes before closing, and yes, I get it, the three people working wanted to leave early and had started mopping but I politely asked if they were still open (knowing very well they were) because honestly I would have let them leave early and not ordered. They answered me saying that they were open, but it was very rude and uncomfortable how the female had talked to me. We stood at the counter waiting for them to take our order (there were two of us waiting) and no one ever even looked at us. Finally we just had to walk out and leave without ever being acknowledged beside for the two seconds when we first walked in and the female worker talked to us awfully. Again, I get that they wanted to leave early but for you to allow customers in even after they ask if it was okay for them to come in and then never even look at them is so rude and not how you should run a business. The big problem I have with them, and why I won't go back for another sub, is the simple fact that their bread is not any good, it is of a rubbery game of eat the yoga mat, it's texture and has no place for me personally. The young woman taking the orders was great but the uninspired vegetable topping person did not work well with her, clearly a pink elephant seemed to be in the sub shop. The whole wheat turkey, provolone sub assembled Mike's way was not very satisfying as to quality of ingredients. The turkey tasted like a modern marvel of food science mystery, the mealy white bread was highly disappointing, and the sub was piled high with limp lettuce, limp lettuce and more limp lettuce. So we ere in town last week after spending a few days in Savannah and were totally stoked to find this Jersey's Mikes. Yes, the food in the South is, for the most part, rich and delicious but it was heavy after awhile and we wanted to eat something lighter. Boom! We found this JM's and what a treat! It is pretty much set up like all other JM's, just like ours here in San Diego, but what sets them apart from every other sub shop around, especially Subway, is that they slice all the meat for your sandwich RIGHT ON THE SPOT. There are no premade, wax paper slices with meat sitting in a small box. The bread was very soft and the fixing's are sparse...not a lot of bells and whistles here. They also add their own JM's dressing and oregano dry mixture to your sandwich so make sure to let them know whether you want it or not. The young men that were working there that evening were friendly, customer service oriented and helpful. One thing really stands out in my mind and I will share that here. I grew up in the restaurant business so I know my way around the kitchen and a big meat slicer. As one of the young men was getting ready to slice our meat, he noticed that there were some dried up pieces of something on the slicer. Before he began to cut our meat, he took a wet rag and wiped everything down very well. And when I bit into it I realized all the lettuce was on top and all the chicken on the bottom. I also agree with another review that stated the Jersey Mike's way has a little too much lettuce. I really like Jersey Mike's, but I was disappointed in the food and service today at this location. I just ate there for lunch. When we walked in, the place did not look busy. There was one customer ahead of us. When he finished ordering, the guy making sandwiches did not acknowledge us for at least 5 minutes. He asked our order but proceeded to fix an online or phone order before our order. We got a meatball sub and a chicken Parmesan sub, and both were too cold and had very little tomato sauce. Also, the employee at the cash register could not put our simple order in, and she needed help from the guy who was making subs. I am a devotee to JM subs and salads. I will change from this location to the one on Folly Road to get better service. Granted it is a busy store, but they always seem to be short staffed. A typical store will run three people on the line, but here there are typically only two. I have even seen it down to one! This creates long lines and extended waits. The staff get stressed, rush the order and end up leaving things off the order. Call ahead orders may not even be done when you come to pick them up! I always enjoy my experiences at Jersey Mikes but when I visit the West Ashley location, I always leave disappointed. Yesterday was my second visit in the last month and after the most latest experience I felt compelled to leave a review. Several weeks ago, I stopped in for a sandwich and there was a handwritten note on the door stating they were out of bread. Huh? Out of bread? That is like a pizza joint running out of dough. I thought it seemed odd that the one item that is absolutely required to ensure this business was operational would always be available. Yesterdays visit was not much better. While they did have bread, they were pulling it from a large plastic storage container much like the ones most folks keep in their garage for storage. They would reach into this tub and pull out a piece of bread. The employee making the sandwich was obviously unhappy with his day at work and seemed to make sure everyone was aware. He did not follow the recipe and had to be corrected regarding the ingredients. I do however, think this was by design as the items were not immediately available and it required him to leave his station and retrieve the menu items. The young man ringing up customers seemed confused, untrained and lacking any type of motivation to perform his duties. There are a lot of options for customers in this part of town so hopefully the manager Matt can work closely with his staff to ensure they are satisfying their customers. read more
