I've been coming to this Jersey Mike's for two years. Usually, I get the 56, regular on wheat with everything. The workers are quick with the orders, pleasant and make good sandwiches. Fast, delicious cheesesteak? And you have a loyalty program? AND you put sports on the tele? Wins all around! HOWEVER, today...I had an issue. I ordered two 56's for my life partner aka my husband and myself. I didn't notice anything til I got home and he grabbed one of the sandwiches out of the bag. WHAT KIND OF CRAP ARE YOU TRYING TO SERVE ME JERSEY MIKE'S?! How I supposed to eat the sandwich when it says "Go Pats" on the wrapper?! The whole sandwich was ruined. Today is the AFC Championship game for the Broncos vs. the Patriots and I am all decked out in Broncos gear...and you completely tainted the sandwich! I'm not gonna lie. I think Subway is pretty nasty. Yeah, the bread is pretty good, but the meat...just sitting out there all day...nasty. And since everyone has been to Subway before, I'm going to base my review on the Subway standard. AMBIENCE/LOCATION: This store is located on the northwest corner of Eldorado Parkway and Custer in a large strip shopping plaza with a supermarket and other smaller stores. Parking was a breeze and the interior was very clean. The setup is similar to Subway with the exception of the meat and cheese being refrigerated throughout the day. The toppings are still on open display. The bacon is also left out in the open because I guess people prefer room temperature bacon (?). SERVICE: At this particular Jersey Mikes, I'd rate the staff a mediocre 4-5 out of 10. It was pretty much what you'd expect at Subway -- disinterested, aloof, bored employees who can't be bothered to say hello, smile or wish you a nice evening. Does it make a difference? Of course it does. People want to be treated kindly. And it's really not that difficult. I'm definitely not claiming anyone was rude to me. But for me to walk into an empty store and not have a single employee greet me with a simple Hello or say 'Welcome to Jersey Mike's, how can I help you today?' Well, lets just say that's Subway-level service. FOOD PREP: As mentioned, the meats here are fresh sliced out of the refrigerator although I'm not sure I can say the same about the cheese. The turkey is sliced up similar to how it's done at the supermarket deli. They shave off a few slices and boom, you're done. The cheese on the other hand was pre-sliced and I did have some concerns when they mistakenly put provolone on a sandwich I had requested American on and they removed the provolone but did NOT throw it out. Is that gross? I'm not sure. It seemed gross but I guess if it only touches their fingers and the turkey, maybe it's not a big deal. I'm so used to McDonald's and other restaurants where they just throw everything out, so it seemed odd. One thing that kinda annoys me is that if you get all the toppings, you wind up with this picturesque large (tall) sandwich but if you're like me (a Plain Jane), you wind up with a slim little sandwich that looks like something they'd serve in Paris to a skinny Frenchman. So, yeah, I wish they'd add some more meat or cheese once you order it plain, even if it's just for bragging rights! Rating: 6/10 FOOD QUALITY: Is it any secret that cold, fresh sliced turkey tastes way better and more fresh than warm, slimy pre-sliced turkey that's been sitting out for 12 hours? Hopefully not. And therein lies the real difference. Fresh sliced deli meats vs pre sliced. Like Subway, Jersey Mike's offers up a choice of rolls, but they don't offer to heat them (still not sure if that's an option) so they come off chewier (not as rubbery as Jimmy Johns but close) and lacking that nice mixture of textures that's lacking when you skip out of lettuce, tomato and other crunchiness. Still, I'd give the sandwich a solid 6-7, especially if you splurge for the sea salt and vinegar chips. VALUE: I had never been to Jersey Mike's before but wound up going to two in one week. The first time, I went in blind and expected a little more for my money. I mean I bought a large plain turkey and cheese sandwich and it set me back like $15!! The regular size is like $8 and the mini sandwich is about $6. Considering I could walk into the Kroger deli around the corner and order 1/4 LB of turkey for $2, 1/6 LB of cheese for $1 and a large roll for 75 cents, that's about $3.75 worth of food for $14.25. And remember, I get NO TOPPINGS. So considering the simple sandwich prep, lack of toppings and failure of the staff to even say hello or goodbye, it's a very poor value for your money. Value: 3/6/7/9. (3 with plain sandwich, no coupon, 6 for sandwich with toppings, no coupon, 7 for plain sandwich with coupon and 9 for stacked sandwich with all toppings with coupon) ADDITIONAL INFO: Fortunately, after my initial experience, I said to my wife, "Wife, why would anyone pay $15 for a large roll with very little turkey or cheese on it?" And that led us to discover that Jersey Mike's is very COUPON-FRIENDLY. Yes, that's right. Jersey Mike's is so generous with the coupons that they routinely offer Buy One Get One Free to people in the know. So knowing this, I presented a coupon for a BOGO regular sized sandwich and instead of paying $8 for one sandwich, I paid $8 for two sandwiches which seemed a lot more fair. Although it did make me feel kinda dumb for NOT using a coupon in the first place. So with that said, I'm recommending Jersey Mike's WITH a coupon caveat. Because without a coupon, this place is just priced too high for what it is. Overall, I enjoyed my Jersey Mike's sandwich. Did it need a PhD thesis written about it? Absolutely not. 3 stars because the food is good and fresh and the restaurant is always clean. My last visit was to get a mini tuna sub, no drink, no chips and my total was approx $7.49. I totally understand that with quality you will pay a bit more but come on. It wasn't even the whole sandwich, it was a mini! So I believe they're a bit over priced. But that's not what irritated me because I do like their food. Unfortunately, the younger workers are not always polite. When I commented about the price the response I got was an audible huff followed with, "Well you don't have to buy it if you don't want but you did order it". I love this place and their food! Pretty amazing if you are craving lunch! I had the best experience with the manager Lee, he customized my sandwich to perfection and had his whole team assisting me! The first thing I noticed when I walked in was him standing aside a table where he was building a personal connection with his guests. They are about customer service here. I asked what is in the tuna instead of just telling me I was offered a sample. The tuna was so good. I am hooked. I think it is even better than Subway's. Went with my wife today. This was my first ever experience at Jersey Mike's. This one is brand new and everything was very clean. The decor was kind of surf and beach meets deli. They sliced the meat and cheese fresh off the block which is awesome. I believe the owner was the one preparing my number 7 today. She was very nice and helpful. Just tried this place for the first time. I got a roast beef, a big kahuna and a meatball for the family. The roast beef was ok, but had very little flavor. The rosemary bread was great. The big kahuna had more jalapeños than meat. It was also pretty tasteless aside from the jalapeño burn. The meatball was completely tasteless. I was starting to wonder if it was me, but it wasn't.
