I used to work at a Jersey Mike's in another county and today I decided to visit because I was in the mood for a sandwich. I ordered a mini #3 a.k.a. the ham and provolone sandwich on the white bread. Maybe it's been because I haven't worked there in a very long time, but it was the most amazing sandwich ever. Like I genuinely want to go back and buy another one, but I know that I'm full so I'm not gonna do that. I don't know the name of the person who served me, but they were so friendly and nice and I also shared some of my adventures I had when I worked at Jersey Mike's myself. The cashier was also friendly as well and they made my sandwich just the way I wanted it. I had a wonderful time and would go to this location again! I probably will next week.

So I was out in Montebello yesterday and decided to stop by Jersey Mike's in the area for some Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. There was no line when I walked in and ample parking outside. I decided to get the Chipotle Philky Cheesesteak sandwich and the food was fresh and delicious. The manager was very accomodating and friendly, which is the reason for this review. Keep up the good work! Highly recommend this spot!

Good food and the workers are chill. Owner is great too…read more My experience today: I was the second person in when 4 people walked in at approximately 11:33 am. I work a couple minutes away so the drive there is quick which is perfect for my 30 minute lunch break. I tend to either order my food ahead of time so it can be ready and I just pick it up and go or I drive somewhere where I know it's quick and easy because they're not busy or because they have specials ready to pick up. Anyways, After we (the 4 people) walked in ....no one else came in, so it wasn't crazy with a line. I usually come in and get the 2 slice special. Wait is usually nonexistent since the slices are literally ready to put in a box. I was helped by another guy today (black beard, black shirt ) and felt there was no urgency from him during the " lunch hour". The pace was the same if there were 100 people or 1 of us. He took my order I sat down, he helped someone else then someone else then he shuffled some papers and got distracted by a little girl yelling across the street while waiting at the bus stop, then he headed to the back to do whatever and then came back out and answered the phone which is when I walked up and asked for a refund. I waited for a min and he noticed me then started getting the box ready for my slices and I told him to just give me a refund. He asked another guy to come over and he returned my funds back to my card and I kept the receipt and he apologized. I attached the receipt to show the time when I finally walked out 11:43 am 10 minutes after my order for two slices ready to go only a step away from the cashier. I never even got the soda cup to sip on while I waited. I may or may not return. If I do return and I see the gentleman in the black shirt that helped me today I'll just walk out. Most likely I won't be returning off this ONE experience. Do I recommend the food ? Yes Is the staff nice and attentive? Yes, Most of them Make what you want with this review but this was my experience today. I would've put this at a 4/5 review based of my past experiences but today made me drop it to 3/5. Hope this restaurant does well. I know it's hard for businesses to exist with the current economy which would make you think people should be thankful for their jobs and their income. Put a smile on, talk to the people coming in and put a little pep to your step when the lunch hour starts. Best of luck Tony's Italian delicatessen

I preach this place like i was on their payroll haha, but they sell themselves. I have put on so many people to this place. So many options, lots of bottle/cans and a rotating draft menu that carries more than IPAs, nothing wrong with IPAs, i drink them but other types exist. I can always find my funky Sours on tap, and did i mention delicious fresh samiches? Dayum son! Hope nothing but good luck for them, they are a staple in Downey's DNA.

In our pursuit of great…read moresandos, we've tried Katz Deli in NYC, Brent's in Northridge and even the sorely missed but never forgotten Miller's East Coast Deli in San Francisco. So when, tasked with finding a suitable place for our quarterly lunch meeting, I entered "Jewish deli" and "Downey" into Yelp, half expecting to find the lackluster lineup of national chains that PURPORT to make good sandwiches- Subway, Joysie Mike's, Jimmy John's and the usual suspects of sandwich sorriness! Imagine then, fellow Yelpers, when Uncle Henry's Deli appeared...as welcome a sight as my gorgeous bikini-clad wifey. Both Mick and I, who first bonded over our shared love of the national pastime, immediately likened Henry's with the MLB legend who shares my birthday- Henry Louis Aaron, aka Hamnerin' Hank and the REAL all-time home run leader, Barry Bonds and his oversized gourd, er, head be damned. In his 22yr career, Aaron belied his average size (5ft 11 tall, 185 lbs) and deployed his missile-fast wrists to smack 755 homers. All while playing in Jim Crow era Atlanta. Uncle Henry's Deli, similarly, defies expectations. Who would think of putting a Jewish-style delicatessen in Downey, famous for birthing the honey-voiced Carpenters and the self-styled "Mexican Beverly Hills?!" Mick ordered a super sized Original, which is turkey, roast beef + ham plus cheddar on white. He went with potato wedges which are sizable. Me? I chose one hot, one cold. A super sized Big B (Pastrami, Bacon + Swiss on toasted sourdough, hold the pickles) and an Egg Salad on enviably well made squaw bread, hold the tomatoes. Pro Tip- From a lifetime of ordering well made sandos in every major city in America, never put tomatoes on a cold sandwich unless you want the notoriously water-dense fruit to dampen your sandwich! The only mild drawback of my food order was the side of potato salad, which in my opinion would benefit from some black pepper and minced celery. The service at Henry's is expedient- You've barely helped yourself to one of their dark wood benches when they've called your order! The restroom was, yes, as cozy as the overall venue...but sufficiently clean + stocked. Watch out, tho- The hot water runs hotter than the devil's temperature! In closing, you can take Uncle Henry's to the bank. Yes, you'll part with upwards of a Jackson, mebbe even two. But you'll enjoy the treat, cuz the caliber of food is very bit as real as the hammer (aka Louisville Slugger) that Hamnering Hank used to bash all of his home runs with.

Pretty fair combo for the price, the service is quick at the counter and they make it in front of you. However, the location may put some off…read morefrom venturing to the place; I came during the day with my wife and mother-in-law, and it was OK. But at night, I'm not so sure I'd take my wife or mother-in-law there; it may be fine, but I don't want to find out. BTW - Dirty Vegas - Days Gone By (some of you will get it) Anywho, moving on. We ordered the following; 1 Chicken Sandwich 2 Chili dogs with cheese 1 Chili fry 1 Soda for a total of $38.51 (cash) My first mistake; not taking a photo of the current 'Menu' board; it is different from what's shown here; it has been updated. However, there is a 'Grilled Chicken Sandwich' on the menu board that is not offered... instead, they offer a tiny fried (breaded) and processed chicken disk-shaped patty; a 'sandwich' honestly, not worth buying... stick to the chili burgers or chili dogs. My honest opinion on this chicken sandwich is this, it should just be removed altogether from the menu -- it is of no real value to customers as it is, and it lowers the quality of menu items being offered. The Chili, however, is their selling point -- stick to that, and they'll do well. Chili dogs are good; a decent, long, slightly snappy dog on a regular small bun, but lightly smothered with a decent portion of chili; not too messy and easy to eat - not a 'Great Value' but an OK value for today's pricing. The Chili Fries were also good; not great but good. The portion if generous but the fries quickly turned soft before I could plow into them. I do like some crispy fries with my Chili. However, while soggy, the flavor was good. I can't make a recommendation on this until I try another batch of chili fries from Chroni's. If, however, the fries remain soaked, soft & soggy, I'd then pass on ordering Chili Fries but just go straight to ordering regular fries with a side order of Chili -- I hate soft soggy fries that much. As for the soda; a large is an OK size. However, I cannot say if they offer a refill; I didn't go back to ask for one. But I'd hope a refill is available for the price... it'd be a shame if they didn't offer a refill. Pastrami: I got to taste a sample of the Pastrami, and it is really good. Here is where Chroni's could kick it up a notch; Chroni's does not have Bacon - Huge Disappointment and Missed Opportunity, I feel. With the Pastrami they do offer, IF made available; with Bacon, they could add one more menu Item that I know for a fact would sell: The Monster Burger - it is simply this: Bacon Cheeseburger with Pastrami, Chili, Onions & Pickles, and mustard. If they'd add this one to their menu, I'd be back for sure. Just saying; something for Chroni's to think about. Get rid of the chicken, add the bacon. Seating: Oh, yeah; seating; Lots of outdoor seating... we were there on a Sunday and there were plenty of open tables. Parking: Lots of Parking too... for most parts or time, parking should not be an issue as I had thought it would be. I nearly parked 3 blocks away in anticipation of the lot being full; that was because I had not been there before, and the parking on the street was loaded; not knowing Chroni's had its own parking, I feared the worst. But as we got there, I was amazed to see, they had plenty of open parking space. Restrooms: I cannot say anything about the restrooms; I didn't need to go nor looked to see how they were kept. My take-away for Chroni's is this; it is a throw-back to an early time when Snack Shack foods were a regular thing in L.A.; a nostalgic place with Lots of Promise and Potential, but where Pricing is a sign of the modern times; a bit high for Chroni's to be a regular place, but it is what it is. However, the staff are really friendly, nice & polite. My hope for Chroni's would be to focus on promotions & higher sales volume with an emphasis toward lowering prices as demand begins to grow once again. By minimizing the menus and just focusing on turning Chroni's back into High Quality Chili & Chili Burger Shack -- this would definitely help increase sales once prices come down a bit. And if done right, there will still be lots of opportunity to turn a nice profit. 5 Stars for Friendly & Nice Service 2 Stars on the Chicken & Soft/Soggy Fries 4 Stars for Seating 4 Stars for Parking 3 Stars for Cleanliness/Outdoor Dining/Restrooms (???) and bus bench/streetside characters. And, 5 Stars for Potential Overall - 3.5 Stars for now.
