I went for lunch and ordered the quiche of the day which was a ham quiche. The food took a while but we went right at lunch rush so it was understandable. When it arrived the portion was surprising in that it was huge which made me very pleased. It came with fruit and a delicious muffin. Delicious little gem tucked away in downtown Wilmington. Best poached eggs ever - soft, not runny, yolk was wet. Bagels are from a local baker- high, soft, crispy on the outside. They bake their own muffins. Lemon poppy seed had lemon glaze with blueberries hidden at the bottom. The strata was cheesy, good layering. Portions are perfect - not small, enough to fill you up. Waitresses were polite and helpful. A few locals came in while we were there. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in Wilmington for Sunday brunch on our way home from the beach. We chose Jester's Java because of all the positive yelp reviews. I was so disappointed that I decided to write my first Yelp review. I ordered the black bean benedict (our server said it was her favorite). What appeared in front of me twenty minutes later was unrecognizable as eggs benedict. Jester's Java "oven bakes" their eggs. Instead of poached eggs, my eggs were in the form of two perfect circles. The yolks were hard, and the eggs were generally tough. It's possible that they were cooked in a microwave (I noticed that's how they were reheating the strata-- I was sitting at a table with a good view of the kitchen). The bacon I had ordered on the side was certainly cooked in a microwave (it had the taste of the pre-cooked bacon you can buy in the dairy section). The breakfast I ordered at the Kure Beach Diner (a standard western omelette) was by far a superior meal. And it did not cost $8.50. I cannot speak to the quality of the lunch food. But I will say, if you are looking for well-cooked eggs, go somewhere else. read more

I've been eating at Jester's for a while now, even through the change in owners. My last visit was fantastic! I had the Cobb Salad. It was beautiful - right down to the colorful pieces of watermelon radish that decorated my salad and tasted delicious! I also LOVE the little pumpkin muffins that come with the salads. My mother and I saw this place in a magazine and decided to try it. However, the waitress did not tell us all the specials but when a regular came in she told him specials we did not hear about. Also she continued to push dessert on us at 8AM. I ordered the lox with an everything bagel and it was a salt bomb. I only ended up eating the lox. Truly, one of my very favorite places to eat in town. It's the kind of place that locals know and fiercely love. Don't go if you're high maintenance, go if you want delicious food at a great price point. It's located in an adorable bungalow, and it's clear that the owner takes great care of the place. My opinion is that the cleanliness of a restaurant's bathrooms will tell you a lot about how the kitchen is run... And this place would get 10 stars on every front! The gals who work there are super sweet and give great recommendations. My favorites are Rob's Club, Country Sausage Benedict, Croque Monsieur, and the BLEST (egg salad on a croissant.) I visited Jester's with a friend on a slow, rainy morning and was immediately met with a warm and welcoming attitude from some employees chilling on the porch. Upon our arrival, they jumped into action immediately and we were very well taken care of the entire time. After the rain cleared up and the lunch crowd started coming in, it got very busy indeed, but we never felt rushed and, surprisingly, the quality of service didn't deteriorate one bit. The half filled container filled with syrup was enough for 1 french toast, so I asked for another. The waitress said there would be an upcharge, since it was pure maple syrup.
