Jetties is good stuff. The sandwich I had the first time, the Tom Nevers was fantastic! Super filling and tasty. Great turkey and peppered ham - a true club sandwich. The second time around I opted for the Nobadeer, which is their version of a Thanksgiving sandwich. It left a lot to be desired. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the price factor. The price is on higher scale for sandwich, but you got to know the neighborhood you are eating as well; I would say reasonable for the quality. Jetties is a really awful place in my opinion. When I go there it is really slow service, and it is always really stuffy in there. That is if I can get there. Jetties really isn't open for long. One time when we called to see if they were open at around 5:00 PM they said they were. But they were closed by the time we were there. Not to mention that the food looks like it's a lot, but it's mostly air. When I eat the sandwiches I barley end up with anything in my stomach. They barley have any seats in there, and it is a little popular. And I have never been there a time when I didn't have to spend at least 3 minutes looking for a seat. The service there is not that good. Once you have your food, it's pretty much free-for-all. You have to race to find seats, and when you want to get water or whatever, your on your own. Now the bathrooms are behind a small corner, near the edge of the building. There are trash cans all over that area, and once you enter the bathroom it's disgusting. Last time I went to the bathroom in that place, I counted four flies. And the mirror was REALLY unsanitary. They also have ice cream there. But the thing is, there is no one behind the ice cream to serve it to you. The ice cream is pretty much in the smack middle of the building, and in order to get any, you have to get the attention of the people at the cashier. Not to mention they don't list the flavors of the ice cream, so you have no clue what you're ordering. When you sit by the window seats there are dead bugs and flies all over the window. And all of the chairs are hard cold and dirty. So, if you're in town I would not recommend Jetties as a place to go. Remember everyone has there own opinions and I am not insulting anyone. read more

This is indubitably the best sandwich shop in DC. It's a little bit on the pricier side but the sandwiches are all big enough for two meals. The salads aren't something to overlook either. You can't go wrong either way. My favorites are the Nobadeer sandwich and the Tuckernuck salad! read more

I live in Silver Spring, and getting to Jettie's involves either 90 minutes by bus or 30+ minutes by car. But it's worth it. SO worth it. The Nobadeer...I have not known sandwich until the day I tried it. It's Thanksgiving in a sandwich. Fresh sourdough bread, turkey they carved right off the bird (it's still warm!), fresh, warm stuffing, and cranberry mayo...it's the best thing ever. Started with some Clam Chowder, or should I say GLAM Chowder. Damn, that was really something special. Not too heavy, not too light. Good balance. Got the meatball sandwich (forget the name!). Whenever I am craving a sandwich, I have an internal debate between ordering a classic Italian sub or trying the shop's take on the 'Thanksgiving' sandwich. I decided to get the Nobadeer at Jetties, which is traditionally prepared on sourdough bread with mayo, cranberry sauce (tons of it), thick-sliced turkey, and and stuffing. I subbed the mayo for whole grain mustard and the sourdough bread for multi-grain bread. They are very accommodating with modifications and my sandwich turned out delicious. They were also pretty fast, considering the busy crowd on a Sunday afternoon, and there were so many other sandwiches that looked delicious! They also have a whole menu of salads that I didn't even get to consider. I can definitely see Jetties as the perfect stop for a cheap-ish lunch after a night out on the town when all you really want is a bottle of gatorade and carbs. read more

The food is pretty good. So why one star? I am a Vet who uses a service dog. When I ordered my sandwich, the cashier asked if he was a service dog. I responsed yes and added that I have a medical condition for which he is trained to assist - the ADA allowed questions. The cashier said it was fine. I sat down. A man walked in with his children and said in a loud voice - " there are no dogs allowed in here". I thought he was a customer harassing me. I said "he's a service dog and I informed the cashier." The man looked at cashier who nodded in agreement. The man said he was the owner. He then said that my dog should have a vest on him. Not required by the ADA or any other law. He is marked as a service dog on his harness and leash. Most of us would gladly not advertise we have a disability and trade our service dog for a pet. I engaged the owner in a discussion that perhaps he may want to first ask whether the animal is a service dog, instead of dismissing his disabled customers. As a business owner in an area with many service dogs, he just did not seem to get it or care. During the entire meal, my dog sat quietly by my table, as he is trained to do. The food is good. Bravo to the sandwich artists! The owner is rude. I encourage any Vet or anyone with a service dog to eat elsewhere. read more

Whenever I'm in DC and my friend wants a quick to go meal she always sends me to Jetties. It must be because it's easy(ish) to get to and you can find parking easier than most places in Georgetown. The sandwiches are just ok. I've had a Surfside sans bacon sandwich and the Nobadeer, which is turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. They're just ok, nothing special. The reason I don't particularly love the place is the short attitude of the folks who work there. This was a favorite lunchtime stop of mine while I was a Georgetown. Though this place isn't the cheapest place around, they do have some pretty awesome signature sandwiches (my favorite was the Nobadeer... just like a mini-Thanksgiving dinner) and a good selection of soups. If you time it right to miss the major lunch crowd, it can be a good place to sit and get some work done (either inside at the bar seating by the window or at the tables outside when it's nice out). Then wait for them to yell out your name when your sandwich is prepared (usually takes about 5 minutes)! WOOOO- My 3 sandwich superstars are: the Nobadeer (I mean it REALLY is THAT great - a thanksgiving dream), Smith Point (chunks of roast beef and tomato, red onion, horseradish sourcream, harvati, mmm), and/or Surfside (turkey, bacon, harvati, avocado). Oooooooo yessssss. Always fresh. Always Moist. Always a freaking dance party in your mouth. The Clam Chowda is also a hearty comfort food choice. BUT Warning to the wise - and thirsty in the summertime: Their "fresh" lemonade is waaay TOO sweet, and their ice tea - is really bitter. The Jettie's saavy can be spotted MIXING the two to achieve a balanced consistency of sweetness and yummminess. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is a TAD on the expensive side for a sandwich. This was my first experience. The service was quick but very rude. The gentlemen behind the counter simply reached his hand over the counter and could not even make eye contact with me. I've never been to a place that charges so much for a sandwich yet seems to devalue personable service. As for the sandwich it was big which was good considering the price and pretty good but nothing amazing. To me service is the most important thing to me. When I go into a place I want to feel welcome and I want the employees to be passionate and knowledgeable about their product. It's already impersonal enough by filling out this random paper to order. Also, $3.00 extra for additional meat seems steep when considering the sandwich is already close to $10.00. I'm a salad girl. I could eat greens for lunch and dinner and smile the whole time. My first 3-4 trips to Jetties I got salads, and they were good, great even. In fact, I thought Jetties was awesome. Little did I know, however, that the best was still yet to come. Today, I went for it. THE SANDWICH. This is arguably what Jetties is most known for, but it took me a while to get off the salad train. My roommate and I split a Nobadeer (basically a condensed version of Thanksgiving on bread) and a Pocomo (herbed goat cheese spread, caramelized butternut squash, and roasted portobello mushroom) aaand now I'm drooling again just thinking about it. The Nobadeer (named one of DC's iconic sandwiches) is delicious: the perfect ratio of cranberry to stuffing to hot, freshly sliced roasted turkey. Mmmmmmmmmm. A tiny bit of mayo adds a nice creamy tang, and the soft sliced sourdough is heavenly. The Pocomo is a flavor explosion in your mouth. Sweet and savory at the same time, complemented by crunchy multigrain bread. Perfect. In the future, I will be exploring the rest of the sandwich menu, and I look forward to the journey. I've been meaning to try Jetties for awhile after reading some of their glowing Yelp reviews. It definitely has a summertime vibe about it - Nantucket beach murals inside, lots of outdoor, picnic table-style seating. Being located in the Palisades, expect a thoroughly WASPy, Georgetown preppy type of crowd. The sandwiches feature hand-carved meat. I had the "Nobadeer" - Jetties' version of the Thanksgiving sandwich with turkey, stuffing, cranberry and mayo on sourdough. It was very moist and tasty. Other sandwich options sounded just as appealing - things to try on my next visit. I also had one of their chocolate chip cookies for dessert - which, unfortunately, wasn't very good. Jetties is a hot spot for families in Foxhall Village, DC, and others, for good reason. The sandwiches are consistently delicious and sizable. Great selection of drinks including milkshakes. They offer salads as well, but tough to get a salad at such a great sandwich spot! A sometimes tricky downside though, is the service. If there is even a small crowd, you will wait quite a while for your food, and there doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason with who gets there food when. We came with a party of 5 and everyone got there sandwiches at different times. I got my (delicious) egg salad sandwich when others had already finished their meal. Milkshakes take a month! Best sandwiches and salads for like a mile. My favorite salad consists of jetties greens, fresh mozzarella balls, grape tomatoes, red peppers, corn, and their roasted turkey (which is so amazing), all topped with their creamy basil dressing. The salads are filling and if I wasn't such a fattie, I could probably save half of it for part of a meal later. I've also had a few of their sandwiches. Their Nobadeer, which is their thanksgiving sandwich, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a nice stack of their roasted turkey, is absolutely amazing. I'm not even a fan of stuffing or cranberry sauce but it just works. Now, you can really save half of this sandwich for dinner, but it's so tasty that you're going to stuff it down anyways and then just have to waddle away all satisfied with yourself. I've tried their goat cheese, mushroom, and kabocha puree vegetarian sandwich, which I really shouldn't have since I'm not really fond of goat cheese and they put a LOT of it in their. My friend who does like goat cheese really like it though. I've also tried their roast beef sandwich, which was okay but I think their roasted turkey beats their roast beef by a long shot. So bottom line, come here for a filling meal, maybe save a little for later or not. Sit in the sun, avoid the bees, and try to avoid the lines during lunch and dinner hours.
