Easily the worst Jewel-Osco in the area, perhaps Lake County. Parking lot is always full of blowing trash. Shopping carts everywhere. The cart corrals are falling apart. The displays in the front of the outside of the store are usually half full or totally missing signage. And then you go inside. The produce department is consistently out of advertised sales or they simply haven't even brought out the stuff for the new week's sale. And if you DO find what you're looking for, hope that it's not rotting. The rotisserie chickens in the deli are either never out or they're poorly cooked and dried out, usually the former. Quick grab lunch meat section is always bare. The employees are unfriendly and always in the way. It's as if stocking the shelves is the ONLY function, regardless of customers moving about and trying to access items on the shelves. Zero "hello"s or even eye contact. Same goes for the cashiers. Extremely miserable people who aren't at all appreciative if you offer to bag since the store doesn't know how to adequately staff. And this is if you are lucky enough to even check out with a cashier. If you shop before 12-1pm on a weekday, expect to have to use the self-checkout, regardless of your cart load. Always fun having to spend 10 minutes scanning my groceries in front of 2-3 front end employees who are chatting away 5 feet from me. Maybe I should clock-in? As a message to corporate, this is a great way to have a lawsuit filed against you. Many goods have also doubled in price over the last four years, which cannot be attributed to inflation as the rate has not been high enough that such an action is reasonable. Grocery quality has slipped as-well, considering their milk goes bad before the "sell by" date even when unopened. They need to hire more cashiers. The store is severely understaffed and it bogs down the attitudes of every minimum wager who works there. I have noticed a decline at the Jewel-Osco in Mundelein (on Maple) for awhile. Best employees are in the deli. On this date (11/6/25) I rate front staff (and management) horrible. I am a long time customer and spend plenty at this store. I have seen a lot of good employees go. All this decline seems to have happened since original store manager retired(excellent manager). New management poor. Today I had an incident where two cases of glass bottles were loaded on bottom of cart. I did not notice. As I left store one slid off and broke. I returned to store and spoke first to bagger, next to clerk, and then woman at service desk area who looked at me like I had two heads and a said "ok". This review is on the pharmacy. I came into the pharmacy at 9:20 on march 5 of 2026 the pharmacist working at that time was not the normal pharmacist I see and the pharmacy tech was a young lady. I believe the pharmacist name was Todd. He is very rude over the phone and also does not acknowledge customers when they walk in not a high I'll be right with you. Nothing just let you stay in there while he types on the computer the pharmacy Tax takes her time to come over to see what it is that you want very rude very dismissive they make it seem as if you are getting on their nerves by coming in. Did not like the customer service this morning at all very terrible. why it is so noticeable the bad Customer Service is because there is another pharmacist that works in there that is awesome. I 've never felt so hurt and angry because of a grocery store . My dad was denied the ability to purchase alcohol at Jewel-Osco, not because he didn't have ID, but because he isn't a U.S. citizen. He presented a valid, government-issued legal, legitimate, and the staff just looked at him like he wasn't a real person. What made it worse was their attitude. Cold. Dismissive. Like he didn't deserve to be there. Watching someone you love, a man who has sacrificed so much and worked so hard to be treated like he's less than human was absolutely heartbreaking. No compassion. No basic respect. Just pure discrimination. My dad walked out in silence, and I could tell he was trying to hold his head high, but I saw the shame in his eyes. It's a two and half to three stars types place. I have only shopped at the Jewel side of the store and not the Osco side. I don't go here frequently. It's just depends on our necessity. Sometimes we find good deals on variety of food items which is unexpected. They carry a good variety of different foods (veggies, bread, cereal, snacks, ice creams, etc.). Not much to say here except that this is a relatively nice grocery and convenience items store. Service is good and prices ranged from moderate to somewhat pricey for their level stores. read more

When you've been grocery shopping at Super Target for so long, regular grocery stores feel so weird. This Jewel felt especially weird. Everything is laid out so oddly and it's super dark. While I love the big selection of stuff compared to a Super Target shopping experience. The layout is a nightmare though. The aisles are super small too. I'm so glad that I didn't take my youngest with me who loves to go grocery shopping with me. He would have hated that shopping trip. The big props for Jewel is the produce selection. For being Jewel, the produce has held up well over the past week. I'm pleasantly surprised that they haven't turned bad in a week's time. I'll go to Jewel when I want a cheaper, okay shopping trip. This is my favorite Jewel so was extremely frustrated by the meat department, who have since changed their tune and started to communicate MUCH better, meeting the standards of the rest of the store employees and departments. Yay!! I hate to even rate them so low, because the deli employees are awesome, but I mean honestly...how many times can a girl put in a special order at the meat department before she gets fed up with their unprofessionalism and inability to follow through with their word? Well, in my case, 4 times. They asked for my phone number each time, which I ASSUMED was to contact me when my items came in (and this was for Tex Mex brats, just so you Jewel folks can identify me), and when I called this last time, today, the employee said there was no manager on duty (and to be clear, each time I've called, that has conveniently been the case) and that the order had come in the day after I ordered them-apparently I was expected to KNOW that-you know, why aren't we all mind readers? This place SUCKS. Easily the worst produce selection I've ever seen and WAY overpriced. Worse, when you get the stuff home, it's wilted and bad within a day or two. Lots of prepackaged produce so you pay way more than you should. Meat selection is terrible. Butcher counter was closed at 7PM on a weekday when I was there, which is ludicrous. I don't really shop at Jewel at all and don't have a Jewel card, but I've been to this location a few times. I like the section of organic food and have purchased a few things from it. Other than that, it's just another grocery store, but definitely more expensive compared to some and not as nice looking compared to others. Jewel seems to be the preferred compared to Dominicks and for non produce items, these are usually competitively priced compared to other grocery stores in the area. It's a bit run down and looks tatty which doesn't help when you are looking for food to eat. My family has been going here for years and haven't had any problems until today (3.27.21). My fiance went to get what we needed and once he was cashing out his cashier was being rude. He took out cash back and asked if she could give him $20 in quarters. After that she was being so hostile and said she could only give $10. But previous times going we've been given $20. And when we asked why she said, "Because that's what I do." She started raising her voice and when my fiance was talking back in the same tone she siad, "Don't raise your voice at me. I can get loud to." When asked for the manager she brought someone who isn't management. And she stood by the cashier and just said we were in the wrong and the empolyee was right. This store is quickly becoming a place I refuse to go to. The produce is terrible, everything i buy seems to be already bad or go bad within two days. I bought two of the slow cooker meals and cooked one that was fine then the next day I went to open the other and threw it right out as my entire house filled with a rancid rotting smell, the vegetables were so rotted they were swimming in decomposing juice. Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident, I -just- bought a fruit bowl that appeared fine until i got home and closer inspection the mystery fruit i saw in it was in fact watermelon, just at a stage of decomposition it looked like chunks of meat. I have never seen watermelon reach such a point. Point being they clearly don't check these things or toss out bad ones and I'm done paying full price for things that are so close to going bad that they literally decompose before your eyes. I have thrown several of these out now, and just need to accept that you can't buy those from them, they are in my experience usually on the brink or already turning. read more

The Jewel in Mundelein is disgusting. It is dirty. The cashiers are lazy and management is non-existent. I went up to the register and two employees were talking and slowly walked to their registers. Inventory is inconsistent. This is the closest jewel to my home and would love to be able to do a complete shop at this location. The deli staff needs better customer service training. It is frustrating that each time i go up to the counter no one looks up from what they are doing to help customers. Last week I just walked out and grabbed my deli options at super target. on another occasion i got a 1/2 lb of turkey and they charged me for $63 worth of buffalo chicken dip Also - the produce has been seriously lacking and unappetizing. The store is just okay. Like any other typical grocery store out there. I am a retail employee myself but I am here in Illinois for college and occasionally I do instacart at this store as well as shopping for myself. As an individual who has had retail experience for several years back home in Wisconsin as well as working for jewel myself my freshman year, some of these individuals need an attitude check and seem to lack customer service skills. A lot of them obviously don't want to be there and I get that. It's a pandemic neither do I, but if you really hate interacting with customers that much just leave or go do instacart like I do where you are more independent. The produce at this store was also very disappointing I was shocked at how small the grapefruit were and how beat up the scallions were. 2 stars instead of 1 for the Starbucks inside lol. Bad produce when I went, wifi is shot and doesn't work on my phone, rude employees sometimes, and just a mediocre grocery store with fluorescent yellow lighting that really isn't all that special. This is a smaller, older store. I'm okay with that though because I can get in and out easily. I am surprised they stay in business with Trader Joe's and Mariano's so close by. Prices on some products are cheap and some not...your typical grocery store. Employees are rude, with the exception of the frozen goods guy...always very nice and friendly. The most annoying thing about this store is that they have NO ONE working there. They maybe have two lanes open at a time and only the self-service lanes open that are slow and don't work correctly half the time.
