Got a new, inexpensive watch from Amazon and needed to get the band adjusted. They are located almost next door to the Safeway Store at Crow Canyon Rd & San Ramon Valley Blvd. Parking is easy and plentiful. What I liked was the warm hospitality of the staff. Do not go to JewelSmiths! Not only do they do a poor job, they lack integrity. I bought a new wedding band with diamonds to replace my old one. I took it to JewelSmiths to be resized. They tried to to include sales tax on the bill for the sizing (from the Sales Tax Handbook: "California does not generally collect sales tax on services...repair services are not generally considered taxable."). They should know this, as it applies to their business. But that was not the worst of it. After one month, I noticed that the ring had cracked in the middle of the back (presumably where it was sized) and one diamond at either end of the row of diamonds was missing. So the sizing work they had done was faulty and gave out in about 30 days. The ring then elongated putting pressure on the prongs, and dislodging the two diamonds. When I brought it back to the shop they hemmed and hawed and indicated that I may have abused the ring (I did not), and that I would need to come back and speak with the manager. They would not take responsibility nor offer reimbursement. I left feeling that it was my fault, not their poor workmanship. I will never go back to JewelSmiths, and I'd advise caution to anyone who does. read more

I too, had a platinum ring from Costco with diamonds set in the band. It was way too big, and I was hesitant to size it any where and leave it over night. Scares the crap out of me! :) But I called the San Ramon location and they were booked (the jewelsmith had just returned from vacation), so they referred me to their Pleasant Hill location. They were able to size it in under an hour while I waited. So fab!!!!! It doesn't stop there. I realized that I still needed it to be sized yet again. I'm always cold, so the ring just never seemed to fit. :( I went back in, and at no charge they resized it at the PH location, then delivered it to the SR location . . . . . . NO CHARGE! How great?!!! ;) I live in SR, so it was more convenient to pick up there, but originally got it size din PH, so I wanted to go back to the original spot. They were so nice to even offer that! When I received my rings back they fit perfectly and where as shinny and beautiful as they were when they were put on my finger 25 years ago. I'm not someone who happens to wear expensive watches. After the battery died in my inexpensive Timex, I found to my great chagrin that I could not remove the back of the watch to replace the battery, as I have done with all my other watches. I'm the type of person who is comfortable taking my inexpensive watch into a fancy jewelery store for a battery replacement. I started searching for someplace in the Danville/San Ramon area to get my battery replaced. I checked out several websites that didn't impress me, look at some other places that got bad Yelp reviews, then I came across the JewelSmiths website, which won me over, especially with the following quote: "Do you just do fine jewelry services and or design? No, we gladly do a $5.00 service as well as a $10000.00 design. We would not be worth our mettle if all we catered to was expensive jewelry designing. Our customers are varied - to a person that needs a watch battery, a slight adjustment on a bracelet or earring, or a special diamond engagement ring design. I was told many years ago that customers build their trust in you by how you can handle the little things first. I would like to say that we are a great example of the statement.of one on one customer service." So in to JewelSmiths I went. They were very friendly, spent about 15 minutes working on my watch and determined that the electronics had gone bad besides just the battery, so they reassembled my watch and charged me nothing for my time. I took the watch back and Jonathan told me that my watch "mechanical" was shot and I needed to purchase a new watch.
