If you haven't had one of the empanadas from Jezabel's you should stop what you are doing and get there asap. I've tried the beef, chicken, and veggie varieties and don't have any notes for any of them. They were so perfectly constructed and the flavors were spot on. These empanadas transcend time and I had them all for breakfast one day and consistently have to force myself to not stop and get more! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I actually worked from the cafe one day and it was the perfect environment for a nice meal, coffee, and a meeting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everyone working is always very friendly and food is served very quickly. I also heard they host events to learn how to make the empanadas and might be signing up soon.

Had the privilege of tasting this delicious treat @ Bok Rooftop Bar. The flavors were amazing. I tried the spicy chicken empandas and the potatoes with cheese. It's totally amazing. The ladies serving the food were efficient and they prepared everyone's order super fast and hot.

Came here today for lunch with my son to celebrate my birthday on my father's recommendation (who read about it online). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is good, the aroma of the food smells wonderful, and the food is delicious![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think Jezabel herself waited on me and my son and she was so patient, kind, and helpful when explaining the menu. We both had beef empanadas; I also had the leek while my son had the lentil. They were delicious, as was the homemade gazpacho soup! My son had their hibiscus mint lemonade (I wished I'd ordered it); I had the espresso spritz with lemon juice, which was still good. The passionfruit pastry we had for dessert just melted in our mouths! Would highly recommend this place, but be warned: they like to show up at farmers markets, so double check that they're open before you go. Will definitely be back!

Empanadas, Escabeche de Berenjena, and Chimichurri

tl;dr this quaint West Philly cafe hosts a daily assortment of empanadas and Argentinian pastries Jezabel Careaga's store-and-cafe has been widely lauded by critics and amateur foodies alike. The multi-purpose space expands across the first floors of 3 adjacent row homes, accentuating the intimate and homey feels of each room. The space is minimalistic, with unadorned white plaster walls, sleek wooden furnishings, and accent planting. Afternoon sunlight blasts through the large bay windows. Stick to the bakery display room to grab-and-go, or venture into the further rooms to sit and snack. The middle room is highlighted by an open kitchen -- designed for cooking lessons -- with a large center island surrounded by industrial ovens and tall shelves of ingredients and glassware. Wooden booths are complemented by velvet pillows, and the tables are each decked with a woven napkins basket. Further inward, the third room is sprinkled with home goods and local crafts. My partner and I arrived for late lunch on a weekday, and the air was quiet and relaxed. We browsed the pastry counter and opted for a variety of that piqued our interest, including empanadas, mafaldas (medialunas with ham and cheese), Escabeche de Berenjena (Italian pickled eggplant), and chimichurri. Of note, the 'menu' was unclear, even within the restaurant -- our strategy was to guesstimate an appropriately filling assortment of goods. All of the pastries were heated to order, recapturing a warmth and flakiness at the expense of drying out -- a risk soundly mitigated by the sides. The moderately large bowl of chunky eggplant, peppered with spice and served cold, provided a nice acidity to balance out the rich empanadas. On the other hand, the chimichurri was strongly cilantro-y and, while adding a pleasant texture and aroma to pastry-heavy bites, was otherwise forgettable. Each empanada sported a unique, intricate wrapping design. The Fugazza (leeks, sweet onions, and cheese) was the highlight of our meal, with a dynamic array of flavors and textures. In a close second was the Humita (spicy corn and cheese), accented by the pop of sweet corn complemented by rich, stringy cheese. Less memorable were the Carne (spicy ground beef) and Pollo (spicy shredded chicken and olives) varieties; while both were stuffed generously with meat, the flavors were less innovative. Finally, the mafaldas were loaded heavily (or, as generously as a small medialuna can withstand) with slices of sweet ham and cheese, then baked until melty. The service was friendly and laid-back. As a whole, our items ranged from ok to great, and our meal fell short of being truly satiating. At $28 (after tax and tip), our check totaled on the pricier side for cafe fare. While the relaxed vibes and authentic eats are well worth an occasional visit, I don't see Jezabel's entering my regular routine.

I really wanted to to like this place during Covid there are mental adjustments that should be made when dining. This establishment and area is busy with foot traffic, neighbors and regulars. This restaurant was spotlighted on Fox 29. With that being said it may be why it's a little lax when it comes to customer service you know. when you have a 'following'. It's probably me because I came out on a nice spring day looking to dine outside then move on with the rest of my day. Not so smooth, not so simple. I was a line of three people for about 20 minutes before I got inside the store. The person before me took less than 5 minutes. This issue may be?? How about post the specific empanadas for the day somewhere? During these times most restaurants have the QR code where you can access the menu and be prepared to place an order. Not here but, they did have a QR code if you wanted to pay by Venmo. Navigating the website to place an order suggests you make your request four hours in advance. I'm sure there are other options but the website wasn't exactly clear on that. I would like to have placed the order, arrive whenever they reasonably suggest to sit outside and eat my meal. Something, a plan. When ordering NONE of the empanadas were labeled behind the case so bless his little heart (I'm saying this VERY sarcastically) the one counter person had to point and explain to each customer. I inquired into coffee and tea prices again NOT labeled and he was unsure, he had to go to the pictures on the register. (Enter old jokes about McDonald's cashiers pushing the picture) Instead of offering me a bag with a handle he put my eight empanadas & side items in a paper bag, my soup in a to go container with a container of hibiscus lemonade he proceeded to hand those THREE things to me in my TWO hands. Oh you may want to bag, (giggle). Yeah I do and again bless his little heart, watching him pack was such a chore a single empanada placed at the bottom soup wobbling on top of that etc. Little did I know the side items that had liquid were sitting on top of the empanadas in the paper bag and spilled out. Changing the taste and texture. The service is not rude or unpleasant just slow and lacking experience. who knows? The issue for me, I had to work too hard to spend my money. As far as the food, the empanadas and service were OK worth having not worth the trouble. I'll leave that to the Gentrifitarions!

Pollo & Chorizo/Corn Empanadas, Lemon Meringue Pie, and Torte de Ricotta

First Impressions: Really really cute cafe area, the display of baked goods looked a little empty, and wasn't sure how to open the door Lasting Impressions: Great place to spend a lot of time, you can watch them make the empanada dough from your seats, and it was a lot of fun to try a lot of different things! Food: - Pollo and Chorizo/Corn Empanadas: 7.3/10; fresh & nice spiciness, flavors didn't leave a huge impression - Torte de Ricotta: 9.1/10; flavors really subtle but really nice. I also really liked the texture of both the torte shell and filling - Lemon Meringue Pie: 8/10; honestly an interesting texture (gelatinous) but the meringue was so good Liked it a lot :)

    Empanadas to-go!

My man went out to run some errands on Friday and came home with a box of empanadas from a Jezabel's pop-up. We received two each of four different kinds and the box came with three side sauces/pickled veggies. We heated up half the box for lunch on Saturday, but everything was so delicious that we decided to heat the rest and go all in! My favorites were the chicken with olives and beef with raisins, but the empanada with leeks was great, too. I especially loved the chimichurri sauce - I could eat that with everything! Looking forward to more empanadas in my future!

Food is so good! Service was excellent, and workers were very nice and helpful. Definitely recommend coming here!!

This place is wonderful. Cozy cafe and restaurant offering Argentinean fare, light and airy, lots of plants, calm and peace. It has a cafe side for orders of pastries, tea and coffee and a separate dining space for table service. They specialize in empanadas and they are delicious. The pastry is fresh and flaky and the fillings are so very tasty. Try the spinach. They run lunch specials with salads and fresh soups and their desserts are creative and delightful. They also offer cooking classes. This is a great spot to grab an afternoon bite. The ambiance is perfect. This is a special place. So glad it's in the neighborhood.

Two bags of amazing "vamo! Coffee" beans. One in dark and one in medium roast. Highly recommend.

5 stars for friendly service from a wonderful small local business, and amazing cappuccinos! Today I had the pleasure of drinking a cappuccino made by a lovely staff member who roasts/supplies the "vamo!" coffee beans for the shop. Coffee so good, I just had to buy some coffee beans for home! (Also, the shop is so cute with really nice plants decorating the space)

I preferred to sit outside, so I was eventually able to grab a table and a menu. It took a little while for someone to bring water and utensils. By the time they came over, I was already ready to order. I ordered the bistec encebollado and was impressed by the portion size! they give you a generous amount of steak. Unfortunately, the steak had quite a bit of fat around it, which isn't my favorite. When the food arrived, the rice was packed into a small cup, which made me think everything would be served hot. Unfortunately, none of the food was warm. Everything was room temperature and lacked flavor. Because it took a while for my meal to arrive, I got the impression that it may have been sitting out before being served. I ate it as it was because I didn't want to wait any longer. Taste-wise, the steak needed more seasoning, although the beans were good. Overall, the meal was average. After finishing, I asked for both a to-go box and the check. About 10 minutes later, the check arrived, but no box. One employee, William, really stood out. Whenever he stopped by, he was attentive, friendly, and on top of things. I appreciated his service and how proactive he was in checking on guests. Overall, the service had some delays, the food temperature was disappointing, and the flavors were underwhelming, not sure if I'll try this place again.

The idea of it sounds nice but in reality, the music was too loud which made it difficult to chat and communicate with the server. The problem is the small space with a whole band. The music wasn't disruptive but just loud. I think it's nice to listen to if I wasn't trying to chat. There's happy hour menu 5-7PM with items from three large categories: ceviche, skewers, and fried starch. They don't post their HH menu online. We ended up ordering: caderas skewer, bacalaitos, short rib carne guisada, seafood asopao, vaca frita The server was nice about pointing out how our order of one regular appetizer with an entrée is already more expensive than going with their prix fixe with comes with an extra dessert. She allowed us to only have one prix fixe for the table, and she applied our most expensive entrée to it. Appreciate that! Skewer - I thought we ordered steak but it came out to chicken. Slightly frustrated about the language barrier. I legit tried to google and translate to find out what's what, and the quick search turned out wrong. bacalaitos - This was solid. The crab dip wasn't too creamy and filling. The chip was a bit oily but it was sturdy in holding up the dip. Kinda cool how the fish is in the chip. Short rib - It was tender. The red wine sauce was earthy. I think they gave too much sauce and it's a little too thin for what it is. A piece of food dropped from my fork and it created a big splash on my white shirt....I know it's my fault but I do think they can provide less sauce especially when there isn't bread or starch to soak it up. The variety of potatoes was pleasant. There were purple and yellow ones which all had slightly different tastes. Since we got the prix fixe we ordered the flan dessert. The server gave us complimentary buñuelos because we were celebrating a birthday. They only had three desserts on the menu, and my group struggled to decide which one to pick. Two of them didn't like coconut, so it was easy to eliminate one of them. I'm glad the complimentary dessert wasn't that one. The flan was the denser side with obvious air bubbles inside which indicates too high temperature and overcooking. The pickled papaya wasn't additive in terms of tartness or sweetness. The buñuelos came out warm. It was kind of bland without the sauce, but the sauce itself wasn't unique either. Overall my friends like the food. I think it's solid but could use some fine tuning. I was more bothered by the environment. I'm open to trying this place again but I might prefer to try new restaurants when I visit Philly next time. Also I think they're a bit pricier amongst nearby options. They have a 3% credit card surcharge which is added to the food subtotal, and tax is applied on top of the surcharge as well.

They were served one bowl of yogurt to share as a starter. Our table of 6 was served TWO bowls to share. Not 3, but 2. I felt similarly regarding the seafood portions we received. It's almost as if we would have been better off dining as 3 tables of 2 to get the full value of what we were paying. Aside from that, the seafood is high quality and fresh. My brunch burger was good, and I enjoyed the cocktails as well. However, I think the only way I can recommend this brunch is if you have a party of 2 or less.

Little things make a big difference when it comes to lunch, and the fresh ingredients and fresh takes featured by Far From Home make it a lunch truck that is definitely worth checking out.

It was fantastic all around with thick slices of bacon, great sauce, plenty of blue crumbles, and the veggie patty itself was fantastic. The curly fries are also a winner as they're nice and crispy and the seasoning pretty much perfectly emulates the Arby's fries we all know and love. Finally was the vegetable curry empanada. The filling was tasty and while the crust was on the dry side that's pretty much what you'd expect from an empanada. I wouldn't mind some sort of sauce for this.
