I was never the kind of kid who could do without bumpers. Fast-forward to adulthood, I don't think I can do much without them anyway. Came here spontaneously on Saturday night and out of all my friends, I was the only person with sandals on that day. While we didn't plan to go bowling, I certainly wasn't going to spend $3.50 on a pair of socks that were going to absorb in all the foot odor and blacken fresh, clean, white socks--no. So I rented the shoes anyway, tried to mummify my feet in paper towels, thinking I wouldn't last very long in them. As soon as I felt an itch halfway throughout the first game, I took them off. It was a total bad idea. I was halfway into my second game when the bowling alley attendant came and stopped me as soon as I was about to roll the ball. Keep in mind that I've been playing with my sandals for about an hour now and they were a lot more comfortable than those bowling shoes have ever been. I haven't slipped, dropped the ball, or hurt myself in any way. He immediately came at me in a very aggressive tone and was rude. Even after I assured him I would assume all liability, he refused to listen. Throughout the rest of our time at the bowling alley, he made our group very uncomfortable as he circled around us and made sure to find things to clean up by our lane, keeping a sharp eye on me in particular. I was at fault for not wearing the shoes--I understand completely and he was doing his job--but to stand around us and stare at me straight in the eye and target me like I'm a threat whenever he passed, was not acceptable and ruined the entire experience for me. He made sure I was not able to play whenever my turn came and my group went from having a great time, to just feeling uneasy because we had to look out to see if he was deliberately choosing to do tasks around us, just to keep me in his sight. This review merits 2 stars because other than that terrible experience and one particular staff member, we had a really good time and the rest of the staff was nice. We did the 2 hours of unlimited games for around $70 and for the 7 of us, it came out to around $10 each, which is a great deal for a weekend. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, so it's not worth it to go out of your way to if you're not in the area. read more

Very disappointing experience , I went on a field trip here with a special needs class and the staff was very rude and gave my class a very hard time . Not only did the staff start off by yelling at several classes for simply walking around ; but when asked for a ramp for a child who had a physical disability the staff questioned us asking specifically which child needed it and made a huge deal singling the child out in front of others . Our class was bowling and enjoying the time and after a few rounds she came over stopped us and essentially scolded us for bowling too fast and complained of us walking around . I'm very unsatisfied and will NOT be returning to this business again especially for a field trip . If you are a school please consider using another bowling alley. read more

This place is great. It's very rare that you find a place where the staff is genuinely nice and cares about your time at their business. I brought my daughter to Jib lanes over the weekend for some bowl time. The place is a bit dated compared to some of the bigger alleys in Long Island that we frequent; but it is kept very clean and the bathrooms smell wonderful! The staff was so sweet and made sure my daughter had a great time. We had a school special which included pizza, juice and 1 hr of bowl time for $9 pp. What put them over the top and why I gave them 5 stars was the way a very uncomfortable situation was handled... On the lane next to us was an autistic teen and his dad. He was having a rough time with all the noise and commotion going on and was upset. A lady came close to him and he hit her in the face. If you are unfamiliar with the autistic community, a lot of them are unable to control their emotions and can't handle them the way we would. There's a lot going on neurologically and physically for them. The lady that was hit started screaming, crying and carrying on like a fool. Yes, I understand that she was hit but there's no reason for a grown woman to stamp her feet, point, SCREAM and cry like a 2 yr old. Many of the bowlers looked on and asked if she wanted ice or anything; completely understanding the situation and that the boy was disabled. However, there's always that one ghetto, nasty person that likes to hype up the situation and carry on like an animal. This lady had to be in her 60's, wearing a cheap fur coat, a long gross weave and a giant sun hat-indoors. She pointed at the father of the boy and called them animals. She told the father that the boy was a monster, that he should be locked up in jail and to get him out of there before she called the police. A few more horrid things were said and before I could throw a bowling ball at her; in stepped the staff. They calmed both the father and son down as well as the idiot woman and her family. They made sure the woman that was hit was doing ok and totally smoothed out the situation as best they could. They even tried to explain the situation to the ghetto woman but it fell on deaf ears. I will never in my life forget the pain, sadness and anger on the face of that boy's father as his son was berated by that woman. I truly hope karma catches up with her old ghetto self. It was a disgusting situation that I'm so glad the staff handled before I did. The older gentleman working there was so sweet and caring and Jib Lanes can thank him for locking us in as returning customers. You can't control what garbage walks in but you can control how it's taken out. Good job guys. read more

Expect a standard old school bowling lane here, none of the modern disco lights and projectors. Which is really what I prefer... Better for serious bowlers. Their deals are Mon-Wed nights 8:30-12 $10 unlimited bowling. However, these are also the nights that they have league tournaments so there are really only a few lanes available. Get there on time or early to get a spot! They also have an early bird special on Saturdays and Sunday's 9-12 for $30 per lane. Only gripe is the food from the cafe could be better, or at least cheaper, but other than that, we love it here! read more

Jib Lanes used to be run down like the typical bowling alley. Note: Used to be. They've renovated and updated the bowling area with brand new computerized screens which the kids love. The seating around the lanes are new and have a funky 60s color scheme. The kids love the stools which swivel. The eating area looks like the original. Typical bowling alley food: hot dogs, pizza, fries. This used to be a cool hangout spot when I was younger and at one point a large number of undesirables started to frequent the area and I stopped coming here. There were metal detectors, that should give you an indication of the type of crowd was coming here. When I returned recently it looked like that crowd may have got run out of here and the regular locals grabbed hold of it once again. I wouldn't eat here, its not the cleanest. The lanes are also pretty narrow but if you're bored this place may keep you entertained for an hour or two. It has been a while since I last went bowling...must be some over 10 years ago. I remember bowling in Spokane with my son & daughter in-law and her mom when they first got married...now my granddaughter is already 16 ..whew how time flies!!! We ended up here after dinner last week. Not surprise about my poor performance...but I still can hit a few pins here & there...Ron, my son was the big hitter...scoring almost 200...Everybody went there to have fun in the first place...and to get away from the blistering heat....the place was cool...and packed. Wow, time has indeed flown by. I remember when Jib Lanes used to be this dark and dingy bowling alley that my high school would hold bowling gym classes at. (Yes, we had bowling gym. Jealous?) So when my friend suggested we come here on a Sunday afternoon, I was a little apprehensive at first. Boy, was I wrong! Rather than dark and dingy, bright and clean met my eyes as I strolled into the all-too-familiar (but-not-really) bowling alley. The equipment, scoring system, and lanes have been upgraded to sport a more modern look. The balls are shinier and not banged up like they used to be. The thing that remains the same is the inexpensive pricing. I remember I used to have a $10/year membership where each game was discounted by $.50 and I could get a free drink. I'm not sure if that's around anymore, but they still have bowling specials practically every night except for Friday and Saturday. With prices that good, I'll be sure to strap on my bowling shoes (yes, I have my own bowling shoes) more often! read more

If I could give half of a star, I definitely would. This place was the worst bowling alley I have ever been too, and i've been to quit a few. They have horrible customer service who does not meet the needs of their customers, they're employees are just very insufficient, unorganized and really rude. My friends and I, a party of 4 waited for an hour and a half when they told us we would only have to wait for 30 minutes. Then the 5 times I followed up on when i'd be able to play a game, they gave us a different time, every time. Also, none of their vending machines had water and none of them took dollar bills. The employees didn't even put a "out of order sign" on the damn machines. And don't even bother trying to get food here, it took me literally 45 minutes to get 1 bottle of water, which felt like a damn journey to get. Don't waste your money people. read more

Cool little bowling alley. They have remodeled from when I used to come here in my high school days which is a big plus on their part. I do miss the food they had before. I agree that the location is slightly shady, under another building attached to a parking lot, and the inside is a bit old as well, but I think if you came to bowl unpretentiously for a good price then this is your place. I'm not exactly sure about the price but I believe it's about 4$ a game, but my friends and I decided to do the two hour session for $60 for the 4 of us. Considering rentals cost some amount I can't remember and we played 4 games, I'd say it was worth the $15 per person that would maybe only get you one or two games at other places. The only staff you really come across is the person at the front desk. Not exactly a ray of sunshine but not rude at all, and they help you unjam your balls (lol) right away when they get stuck. Otherwise they pretty much leave you alone. Maybe it was daytime but it was relatively uncrowded, and no fancy disco lights or anything but that's alright. On a late Tuesday afternoon, my friends and I found ourselves in a surprisingly clean bowling alley and discovered a special - $55 for 2 hours of bowling for 6 people! Includes shoe rental! Its cheap, but there're so many issues with it. When I first went here, I thought the graphics for each frame was kinda cool, but then you get over those things and finds it faults. 1. You can't use your cellphone here. For some reason, you talking on the cellphone causes interference to the building upstairs. 2. The staff is here is generally rude, partly because they have to scream at ppl to not use their cellphones, partly because they got so use to screaming at ppl that they now have no manners. A complete throwback to my childhood, I can't believe I forgot about this place! I had many a birthday party here, and until my parents moved and decided to part ways with my collection, I was about 1/8th of the way to have a full bowling pin set with my name and birthday on each (silly logical parents and their desire to not cart a bunch of bowling pins from Queens to Jersey). The staff was always super friendly, and would set lanes up by group depending on whether they needed bumpers (let's face it, I still sometimes need those and I am no longer 7 years old), and make sure adults had an easy time of it all. I'd recommend for a kid's birthday any day, not sure how adult friendly it is these days (a bar has become a slightly more critical aspect for entertainment in my ripe old age). read more

I always think bowling alleys are placed in the most sleazy areas. It's like dark and opens late like a bar (though most bowling alleys have bars) It's not exactly the case for Jibs. Though going down the driveway makes me feel uneasy, the inside feels cozy and friendly. This is definitely one of the better bowling alleys when you see a school/after-school program having a trip here. When i got here, it was packed with kids and by the time we left, it was pretty empty. The games and shoes are pretty cheap. About $13 for shoes and two games. We didn't even start bowling and we had trouble getting the pins down, and I couldn't find the reset button so my mom went to the counter and the lady reset it for us. Lanes are clean and there are a lot of bowling balls to choose from. The animation on the screen was amusing. We had a problem in our second game where the computer malfunctioned and somehow reset after the second ball in a frame. I don't know what happened there. Anyway, this is a pretty good option if you wanna go bowling. I think the prices change depending on the time of day you go. Better check the website. And you can park at the plaza around the corner from the bowling alley, if you can't find street parking. It's a little hard to find parking because there are so many apartment building around. read more

An awesome place to bowl in Queens, it is probably one of the cleaner lanes in the borough. They have all sorts of deals throughout the week and I mainly go when it is all you can bowl from 9PM-close. Shoes cost about $3.00 to rent but just do yourself a favor and buy a pair because it is not that expensive. Although not as great as Herrill Lanes in New Hyde Park where I frequent more often, Jib Lanes is good because of its close proximity. When I bowl, I usually look for good deals for games or hours. Jib has a few great options which include their Early Bird Special on Saturday mornings where I get 3 hours of bowling on one lane for $25. Then there's also their Tuesday special starting at 10PM where it's unlimited bowling until 1 AM for $10 a person. These are great deals in my opinion. I'm more for the Saturday deal since it tends to get crowded on a Tuesday night since there are leagues before 10 PM. It's a pleasant bowling experience, before the renovation about a year ago, when it came under new ownership, I would have given it 2 stars, but now Jib is a quality bowling alley. There are new synthetic lanes and "actually working" ball return. And guess what? The pin setters actually work now! No more need to call the front desk, with the constant "ball return on lane 15." Jib Lanes is a good choice if you want to bowl in Queens and don't want to go out to New Hyde Park. Great local choice! read more

This was really not a great experience. We visited on a Saturday evening and got in line behind a family of 10 to put our name in. They seemed to be arguing over something, and we stood in line for about 20 minutes. After their dispute, the guy told us it would be about a half hour wait. Fine. 45 minutes later.....we hadn't even moved 1 spot forward in line! There were 4 teams ahead of us, and we weren't even close. Loved our time here. We went on the Friday before Father's Day 2016. I had the Friday off and the little one (5 y/o) got out of school early at 1:30 that day. We decided to visit the Hall of Science (closeby), which is free on Fridays from 2-5 PM!!! We got to the bowling ally around 4-4:30 ish. I was scared that it may be filled with the after school crowd running amuck, but it was fairly quiet. There is lots of free street parking available so we parked on the street, though I believe that there is a parking lot as well. Large high signs in front and on the corner so you can tell locate the place, but when walking to the actual entrance, you have to go down some stairs and there aren't really many signs until you get to the glass doors. This place was great from beginning to end. We used the Groupon deal for $32 for 2 hours and they accepted it without any fuss. Oddly the Groupon said "2 games per person" but after we finished the 2 games we started to pack up and noticed the lane light was still on. When we went to the desk, they told us to keep going that we had 2 hours!! So we squeezed out another 3/4 of a game. So it's time, not games which makes sense as a game can take long depending on the amount of bowlers you have. The staff was very helpful and kind. They made sure we had everything we needed and answered all of our questions. Once a ball was stuck in the gutter and an employee came to get it out in about a minute and another time a pin had bounced back and was laying on the lane and again, an employee arrived within a minute to go get it. The lanes themselves were fine. There were rough ?40? lanes or so, which is pretty adequate. The machines where you enter your information while bowling seems a little ancient compared to the modern places now, but worked fine. There are a bunch of games and small arcades along the sides. There is also a sit-down eating place which serves the typical sporting-area food. French fries, hot dogs, pizza, etc... We got a pizza to hold us over until we ate later. It tasted like well, bowling ally pizza, but served its purpose. I believe it was around $7 for a 6". They serve drinks as well, even alcoholic I believe. There are vending machines where you can buy bottled drinks (soda) along the side ($2.50 for 20oz Bottle). Bathroom was clean, which is always great for any public venue. Overall we had a great time and I would love to return. Again, kudos to the staff, they were very welcoming. Keep in mind this was in the late afternoon on a Friday. Later in the evening of during the weekends may get busier. read more

This place has so many lanes. I came in with a group of 3 other people and we were gonna opt for two games, which would have been $22/person with shoe rental, but the girl said that it's better to just do 2 hours of games for $20. We ended up squeezing in around 4 and a half games before the 2 hours was up and had so much fun. We came here because we knew it would be cheap and it was a Saturday night, so I was surprised not all the lanes were busy, but was glad at the same time. $20 for 2 hours w/ shoe rental is unbeatable. It's a decent bowling place, it has no fancy/dimmed/cool lights, but still fun nonetheless. read more

Every time I went in, there would be nothing available. This happened at least 5-6 times, no matter what day of the week it was, or what time it was. Early, late, weekday, or weekend. Ended up buying a living social deal, and called ahead and "reserved" a lane like the coupon said to do. I get there and the guy at the counter tells me (not very nicely either) that they don't take reservations and that there's no lanes open. You get what you paid for. If you sign up for a yearly membership, which costs $10, all games are $2 each and you get a free small soda every time you go. Lanes are usually dry, food is not that great, most of their staff are ok except for an asian lady, she's always pissed for some reason, and a black guy who does not know how to use the register properly, he always ends up overcharging you, so check your receipt. No matter which cell phone carrier you have, it's very hard to get reception here. It's not bad for its price. read more

When I was a young whippersnapper, I went to birthday parties here. In high school, my bowling class played here. Years later, I'm bored on a weekday afternoon while visiting Queens and decided to pay my respects to this bowling alley of my youth. They currently have a summer special, 99 cents per game and per person, Monday-Friday, from 3 to 6 pm. What a bargain! The shoe rental is $4 per pair right now. With prices that low, you're of course going to play at least two games. As other people have mentioned, the alley was renovated not too long ago. It's brighter than I remember it being, and well maintained. Balls were easy to find. Didn't try the food, but I think it's still pretty much pizza, hot dogs and chicken fingers, like it was years ago. read more

Jibs is cheap or budget for bowling especially with a group of people. I usually go on a Saturday night around 9 to 9:30pm since that's when the league players leave therefore the wait time for lanes are shorter (that's a tip remember that or....don't and waste your time waiting xP). We go at least 2-4 times within a few months and recently it seems like no matter what lane we get we spend more time waiting for our bowling balls to be returned because they keep getting stuck in the back of the lane by the pins. The last time we played which was this past Saturday we had to tell the front desk at least 5 separate times that the balls were getting stuck. The whole bowling balls getting stuck thing has really turned myself and my group off and are now seeking a new place to play. After all we don't go bowling to just stand there and waste time waiting for our balls to return... Just saying I'd much rather throw them at some pins! read more

Got a groupon for bowling for 3 people, shoes rental and soda. The groupon said 6 games and when I bought the voucher, it meant 2 games per person. (Basically 2 games in total) for $25 . What a rip-off!!!! Compare to the lane at Woodside 34th bowling lane, Jib lane sucks. The lanes here are narrow and fewer balls to choose from. The place looks very old and there is always a crowd due to their specials. It makes it harder to reserve a spot if your group isn't all here altogether. Overall, not my place for bowling.
