My husband and I needed to get an oil change before our 600 mile trip north. We chose this Jiffy Lube because of it's proximity to Fred Meyer--we figured it would be convenient to pick up a few groceries while getting our oil changed.
We parked in the lot and were told to wait inside until an associate could speak with us, and then we would be cleared to leave. After 45 minutes of waiting, we were finally registered and allowed to go across the parking lot to get our shopping done. My husband opted for the oil change that included a check of other systems under the hood.
Upon returning from our shopping excursion (which totalled about 15-20 minutes), my husband was told that we needed a new air filter and that our serpentine belt was cracking. The associate told him that this was a severe problem and a long trip would not be safe without a new belt. Not knowing much about cars, we believed him. After a ten minute wait, we were told the belt that was needed was not in stock, but not to worry because one from a different branch would arrive in the next 20 minutes.
The new belt did arrive as promised. Then things took a huge turn for the worse. We watched through the glass windows as the manager and four other employees took turns cranking and pulling on things under the hood. After an hour and a half (during which time, we were told twice that it "would only be another 3-5 minutes"), we were informed that the bolt holding the parts in place was stripped and Jiffy Lube could not replace our serpentine belt. The employee apologized and offered to take ten dollars off of the cost of our air filter and oil change for the three (yes, 3) hour wait we had endured from start to finish. When I asked him if it was safe to make the drive, he said that he was sure it would be fine... A much different answer than we had heard two hours before! When I further questioned on who exactly could fix the belt, he seemed unsure and had to consult with his superiors.
I am sure that the bolt holding the belt in place was not shredded prior to our arrival at Jiffy Lube, just as I am sure that the belt itself did not actually need replacing; we were victims of a vicious upsell.
Contrary to other reviews, I would never go back to this Jiffy Lube. I cannot stress enough how dissapointed my husband and I were with the service we received. read more
