No one had any appointments, including Christian Brothers, for over a week. Even so, I stopped in right at 7am when they opened one day on a prayer and asked if anyone could take a short 3 minute drive with me to just listen to the noise and let me know their thoughts on it... even if they couldn't fit me in to actually look under the hood yet. Chris came on a little drive with me that morning, and was so kind and informative! I mentioned my dad's thoughts on the heat shield and he said definitely not. He said it actually sounded like the timing chain scraping, which can happen if low on oil. When we pulled back in for me to drop him off, he checked my oil level and low and behold... almost empty (even though my oil light never turned on and I wasn't due for an oil change for another month). I learned all Kia's tend to burn oil; FYI to my fellow Kia owners. He gave me 2 quarts of oil and my car is great now! Noise gone and learned something to look out for. I was traveling through the state for work when my brakes suddenly needed replacement. I brought my car to CB's and received a quote for $2600+, which included the brakes, labor, as well as calipers and some other brake related fixes. The mechanic explained that these extra fixes were necessary to get me back to my destination. After hearing this staunch number, and ruling out my options, I returned to Christian Brothers to retrieve my car and get a second opinion. When my car was pulled out front, I saw the mechanic jerk the brakes when he was reversing, and when he got out had the gall to say "Drive fast, no regrets" and walk off. In my opinion, distasteful and rude to have that kind of childish demeanor when I simply want to get a second opinion. The best part is when I took it to the second mechanic. He said my calipers were completely fine, just normal wear and tear, and that replacing them wasn't necessary. He quoted me at a quarter of the cost, and I was able to get back on the road in an hour, and have experienced great braking/driving the last several weeks since then. My experience with Christian Brothers can be summed up in four words: dishonest, distasteful, never again.

I went for the change when it was time and they informed me that there had been a temporary plug in it and that they weren't touching it for liability concerns and said I was gonna need a new oil pan and all. Now how is that not Jiffy's fault when I had been using them all that time for oil changes and they tried to conceal they did damage to my car. What used to be reliable service, is no longer reliable. I filed the complaint with corporate and the manager who called was rude, so I put him in his place and said forget Jiffy. Don't trust them or it might be you left hanging with an expensive repair due to their faulty work.

Multiple times recently, I have scheduled work but requested to get an estimate before the work was scheduled, been promised an estimate within hours, and not gotten one for days. On the surface, that's excusable but the lack of transparency it creates is not. The issue is half the time, that estimate has been higher than the local Toyota dealership and both have been significantly higher than similar shops. The final straw was I was getting CV axles and mentioned I could get them for less than 1/3rd of the price they were quoting me and told them the brand. The brand is well established as quality. They went full send on telling me what terrible quality they were. I asked what brand theirs were so I could compare quality and they would not tell me. There's a lot that I can assume is simply poor management. Intentionally lacking transparency is not that. Their quote for my CV axle replacement was over $1300. I got it done for $550 from a reputable shop.

I've used Valvoline for a long time, because they're usually pretty quick to get you in and out, and their prices are comparable to other places where you need appointments. This location was not quick. It was around 3 PM on a Saturday, and there were 2 cars in front of me. It took a little over an hour from the time I pulled in to the time I was leaving with an oil change. Not great, but it could be worse. Here's where they lost the 2 stars for me. When they started the service, they told me the oil plug was stripped and leaking. They said it could be a simple fix (new oil plug) or a really expensive fix (replace the oil pan). I asked if they could change the oil plug, and they said yes. Everything wraps up, I pay, and then I ask them if it's still leaking or if the new oil plug fixed it. The guy pretended he had no idea what I was talking about. He yelled down to the pit to ask if they had changed the oil plug, and of course they said no. No details about how bad it was leaking, and they just put the new oil in and let it go. I'll go back to Valvoline because of the convenience, but definitely pay attention and double check if you have anything outside of just a basic oil change. Pro tip: search the web for "Valvoline Coupon" while you're waiting in line. You'll often find one for up to $20 off, which makes them cheaper than most other options.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change - Brentwood, TN: A Complete Disaster…read more We have been loyal Valvoline customers for over 20 years, and my husband even worked for the company as a young man. We have always trusted them with our vehicles--until now. What should have been a routine oil change on our 1991 Nissan 300ZX Turbo turned into a nightmare that left our car undrivable, and Valvoline refuses to make proper repairs. Before you read the rest of this lengthy review I need to state that my husband is a combat wounded Marine veteran and this car is his "emotional support vehicle". He uses it as his PTSD therapy. He drives this car and it keeps him from drinking alcohol and takes his mind off the past. It's more than just a car and this situation is now causing setbacks. Our challenge is that the technician stripped the oil plug and couldn't complete the service. Since the car was no longer drivable, they had it towed to a mechanic who we were unfamiliar with. When he visited the shop, he was immediately concerned about the condition of the facility and told Valvoline he did not want that mechanic working on his car. He provided the name of our trusted mechanic and requested the car be towed there instead. They ignored our request, allowed the initial shop to proceed with the work, and only after that did they tow the car to our preferred mechanic. Once our mechanic inspected the car he determined that there were metal flakes and milky oil, clear signs of serious internal damage. When the car was driven off the tow truck, the engine sounded awful. On top of that, the previous oil change had also been done at Valvoline, at their Mt. Juliet location. So whether the oil plug was over-tightened during the last service or damaged during removal this time, the liability falls on Valvoline. We understand that accidents happen--it's part of life. But what truly matters is taking responsibility for the mistake and making it right. Instead, Valvoline has done the opposite. The area manager acknowledged the situation but was about to leave the country for vacation, passing the issue off to the store manager. We have repeatedly requested to speak with the market manager (Matthew), but after more than two weeks, he has not returned our calls. One or both of us have called into Customer Care wveto follow up and make documentation of the situation. Valvoline claims they've done all they can and refuse to escalate the claim. We brought them a running car, and now it's undrivable. Their lack of accountability and poor handling of the situation have cost us dearly. This is not the first time we've had issues with this location. I was once left stranded in the middle of the Church St in Brentwood after an oil change with my Murano. That time they did come to my location about two minutes from the shop and fix the car. Unfortunately, since this is a more costly repair we aren't being taken care of properly.
