Unpopular opinion, K-town isn't my top go-to in town, as I most times prefer convenience and I bet most people are in my boat that parking and traffic there aren't your best friends. Jilli however successfully dragged me there with all its hype on social media. The petite venue had few tables, most of which accommodated smaller groups probably up to 6 people, but mostly 2-4. So you guessed it right when you thought reservation especially on weekends could be pretty tough. Most dishes came in smaller size as they offered Korean tapas concept, but I viewed this as blessing in disguise, making it perfect for sharing and trying bunch of different stuffs. We started with So-tteok So-tteok, their version of tteokbokki served with sausages and sweet gochujang sauce. I loved the balance of sweet and spicy flavors in it and that pistachio sauce & parmesan on top were surely bomb! Cheese balls were enjoyable at first few pieces, serving cheese curd coated in honey. I couldn't have too much though and I would recommend sharing with 3-4. Shrimp Toast was our next and probably the one we set high expectation on given how popular it was. My friend loved it to bits especially the chili vinaigrette dipping sauce that elevated the overall taste. For me it was tad salty but decent enough despite I wouldn't call it my favorite. Chimmelier KFC felt wrong when not ordered, with this being a Korean restaurant. It was kinda similar to any other Korean fried chicken IMHO, which for me mostly came as nice nibbles to partake in group. Having enough fried stuffs, we closed it with Kimchi Rigatoni, which I nominated as my second favorite here after the Tteokbokki. Pasta was Al Dente and I might be biased but I always loved Rigatoni coming with spicy vodka sauce. Jilli's version was a peculiar one as the spicy hint came from kimchi and it was proven brilliant idea. You would have seen that majorly of the dishes were fried so highly recommended sharing and probably good option to balance your order with non-fried ones. AMBIANCE: This is a great place to stop by for drinks or korean bar food. This bar is unique in that it turned a small space into something cozy and fun, a stark contrast to other pochas in ktown. FOOD: We got the shrimp toast, rigatoni alla kimchi vodka, chimmelier korean fried chicken and the kace study which is peach tea and soju. Overall fav was the rigatoni, but I actually enjoyed all of them! They had a nice kick to it to keep things interesting and it didn't feel too heavy or oily. I think this place does a great job with focusing on bringing out great flavors! One critique I had was that I wished the Kace Study had more flavor since it felt a little too watery but I still enjoyed the drink! EXTRA: Their to-go service was a nice treat. I was surprised to get a super high quality tupperware box, bag, extra sauce for the KFC, and plastic gloves! I first came here within the first couple months of their opening and really loved the food. I wanted to come back again but didn't until a little over a year later. Unfortunately the magic from my first experience was mostly gone this time around. The overall vibe was still the same, which is good, but the service was really subpar and the food is a shadow of what it was a year ago. The food menu was a lot shorter this time around. Last time it was a full sized menu, whereas this time it was on a small strip of paper that you would expect to see a list of cocktails on. The rigatoni alla kimchi vodka was tasty, but it unfortunately no longer comes with burrata on top which we were missing. The chicken was fine but a little dry. We wished that they still had the wings similar to chimmelier. Ditto for the ribs that they used to have. The uni tteokbokki was ok but forgettable. I feel like they could serve a better iteration of tteokbokki. It seems more like their focus is now more on drinks than food, which is fine but not what we had hoped for. The drinks were good at least. The other negative was the service. We came early in the night when they weren't busy. And apart from our initial order, we had to flag someone down every time we wanted to order another drink/food or needed general service. They forgot a drink and food order on two separate occasions. The first time we reminded them because it was still earlier in the night, but the second time we just left it. It was really frustrating because they seemed to forget immediately after telling it to them. They would walk back over near the bar and just stand there. Again, it wasn't very busy so it makes me concerned that service would drop even further if it were. One positive note is that we got a free round of shots with our bill (which our server took a shot with us... and the other tables whose tabs closed...) which was a nice touch. Would I come back again? Probably -- if I'm with a group and that's where they wanted to go, but I wouldn't suggest it. read more

Overall a great experience with great food and a friendly staff. I went with three other people, we ordered and shared a lot of dishes including the Shrimp Toast, Fried Chicken, Kimchi Rigatoni, Tuna Mayo and the Pickles. All of it was good but the Shrimp Toast was so delicious, we ordered a second round of it. My only complaint would be the noise level and the parking. Street parking in that area is difficult. There is a lot in back of the restaurant that charged $15.00. The small space filled up right when the restaurant opened. Unfortunately, it is constructed of hard surfaces with nothing to absorb the sound making it very loud. I have heard so many great things about Jilli and totally see the hype. The space may be small but the vibes are awesome. It's lively but a bit moody, and very intimate and makes for a great date spot. My boyfriend and I started off with the Angma Makgeolli, which is a locally produced makgeolli. This did not disappoint and tasted incredibly fresh, and it was a lot more carbonated than other ones I've tried. As for food, we ordered a bunch of different things, including the Tuna Mayo, Chicken Bao, Tteok Twigim, Rigatoni alla Kimchi Vodka, and the Baby Back Ribs. My favorite was definitely the rigatoni by far. I love a good vodka pasta!! The ribs were also solid, though it definitely needed the sauce that it came with, and the Tuna Mayo was a simple but very solid bite. The ambience of this place is so cute! We came on time for our reservation but unfortunately had to wait outside because there were still people dining. IDK if they have to increase their seating or reduce the amount of reservations they take, but it was kind of awkward sipping our soju while waiting to get in lol. Once we got in though, we ordered a lot of food and it was pretty pricey, but it was also super good. I don't know how to feel about the fact that I got the tuna & cracker combo, especially because it's one of the things that you can definitely make at home. At the same time, it hit the spot, especially with the yoju. The standout was the KIMCHI RIGATONI!!! Omg. I dream about it. I would come back just for this. The chicken was good too, I actually preferred eating it without the sauce. They also give gloves to eat it with so your hands don't get dirty :). Everything was perfect bar food. Big flavors. Low sublety Let me preface: I may be the wrong demographic. Jilli felt post-modern hipster. Big flavors all around. Huge flavors. Too huge for me. We had the tuna dip, shrimp toast, KFC, and salmon make-your-own-handroll. Everything was tasty, but common. I can easily whip up that tuna. The shrimp toast was crispy, but too oily. The hand roll was subtle and yummy, but . . . Poke meets sushi - and good-average at that. We tried a few drinks that were all new to us. The Angma Makgeolli (I liked it, sort of a Korean kombucha) the Red Monkey was for the more experienced palate: yeasty and pungent. The Chamisul Fresh Shoju tasted like Vodka, specifically Ciroc (which I like, kind of a grappa) and the as nicely accented with lemon. Service was pretty, polite and relevant. Best part about the place. I liked the decor, albeit a small restaurant. Valet parking around the building for an Andrew Jackson - not great but it's K-Town. By the end of the meal, we felt heavy. Probably best suited for the 20's-30's crowd. In that I only mean that the flavorful food seems best suited to those of a particular metabolism. Ordered the Meat Jeon, Uni Tteokbokki, Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka, Chimmelier KFC, and Pork Jowl Jeyuk. The Meat Jeon uses a bulgogi type of marinated meat and was very easy to pull apart, the flavor is distinctly bulgogi throughout. The Uni Tteokbokki was a cheese sauce creamy dish consisting of the tteokbokki (rice cakes) and the cheese sauce with salmon roe on top. It's a pleasant chewy texture and the sauce pairs well. The Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka has noticeable flavor profiles of kimchi and vodka. The pasta had a good vodka taste along with the slight kick from the kimchi spice. The Chimmelier KFC was a classic inspired by Korean fried chicken, it's an easy pick to recommend if you're unsure; it also comes with a gochujang dipping sauce and some marinated radish cubes. The Pork Jowl Jeyuk was a crowd favorite. The thick cuts made me a little apprehensive at first but I realized they were a good size to see the cooked quality of the pork. This pork is very juicy, and has a firm but smooth texture when biting into it. Service was very fast and efficient at getting all we needed and bringing the food in a timely manner. The ambiance resembles Korean urban culture. On the one wall, there's a beautiful piece of artwork and on the other wall, you have a traditional drink pot among other more classic Korean piece. read more

Came here on a Friday with a reservation. When my boyfriend and I arrived there was already a line. A good sign or just a sign of bandwagoning? The atmosphere is young , hip and low key, with sparse decor save an arrangement/floral art piece behind the bar and some Korean black and white cartoons playing. The space is small and it does get loud fast- with a fun 90s hip hop playlist that I was singing along to because I am that old. What we ate : the homemade potato chips - simple but yummy the chicken bao was just ok - maybe it needs a sauce or something the kimchi pasta is a yes - pasta in a vodka sauce that also has kimchi in it? yes and yes. As some peeps have stated it's low key so if you are expecting super kimchi flavor - it's not it. What I drank: a natural red wine. maybe it had bubbles. look I'm not normally a natty wine girl but it was good enough for me to have two glasses. No host at the door and when I managed to get the server's attention, he stopped by a customer's table and went back into the kitchen. We decided to leave and go somewhere else. If you're older than 25 and can afford paying at least $50-60ish per person with drinks then this is a must come when you're in K-town. This is a Korean bar with plates to share. I recommend making a reservation as it seems like walk-ins are hard. Service is attentive and nice. The first time I went there, the server let me try three of their makegeolis, so I could make a more informed decision. Also, the kitchen saw I had sauce left on my plate and gave me bread to wipe it ip. Tight space, dark, and for an almost 40 year old it was loud for me, but the vibe and music brought me back to when I liked staying out past 9:30pm. Their bathroom pays homage to some 90s legends, if you don't recognize them then you're too young. Definitely get the rigatoni alla kimichi vodka. It's savory, tart, creamy, what can I say it hits the spot. Don't sleep on the honey butter chips! I wish they sold these in bags for you to eat at home. Fried chicken is a big portion, we took leftovers for the next day, it was still good. If you drink Korean alcohol on the daily, try something different than what you would normally drink, unless your usual makes your meal taste better. A bit overhyped, 3.5/5 but rounding up to 4. The ambiance is a bit of a contrast - the interior is dim and intimate, but it was noisy and quite cramped. The dishes are small and made for sharing, so my friends and I ordered a few items. We got the shrimp toast, tuna dip, rigatoni alla kimchi vodka, chimmelier KFC, and nurungji risotto. The shrimp toast sauce paired nicely, but the toast itself was quite oily. Rigatoni was a bit disappointing, the flavor was mild and nothing special. I would not recommend the chimmelier KFC (fried chicken) at all it was soo dry and lacked flavor and the risotto was not memorable. Servers were friendly! Honestly hate to say that I was disappointed with my visit to jilli. My friends and I saw all types of content on tiktok about jilli so we were SO excited to try it out. We loved the idea of the modern take on Korean food with the additional wine bar. I tried making reservations for Saturday but saw that they were booked up so my 2 friends and I were like ok, let's just head there when it opens and maybe they'll be able to seat us. I saw that I could be added to the "waitlist" on Resy, so I went ahead and added us. We got to the restaurant around 6:10 (they open at 6) and confirmed our name on the waitlist - the host said it'll be about an hour wait, that they'll be able to seat us in a tight corner of the bar then, and they'll text us to come back in an hour, which was totally fine with us. We went to a nearby pocha for a pre-dinner drink and I realized after an hour passed, we still haven't received a text. So we head back to the restaurant and get there around 7:25ish to check in again. The host said it'll take another 25-30 minutes to get us seated. At that point, we've already waited over an hour, so we just waited til then. We get seated around 7:55-8pm at the bar - we're all hungry at this point and would've just liked if the host set expectations clearly. The 1-hour wait turned into an almost 2-hour wait, I get that it's a new restaurant but definitely frustrating on our end because if we were aware of the 2-hour wait, we would've tried the place another time. Ok anyways, we're finally in and seated. Things you'll notice when you enter the resto: dimmed lighting, music is loud, the ingredients for their food is placed on their bar (now I know you guys use barilla pasta and ritz crackers for your entrees), it's a pretty small place, and there's a random montage of videos playing on the corner of the walls. The bathroom will assault you with the super loud music and red lighting. Also during our meal, there was a photographer there taking pictures of the food and his flash just kept going off every 3 minutes... it was pretty disruptive. Onto the food - we were really excited to try it out. As patrons were leaving, they were gushing about how delicious the food was and I'm like, yep this is gonna be good. We knew exactly what we wanted - we ordered some orange wine, shrimp toast, kimchi vodka pasta, chicken nurungji, and chimmelier kfc. Wine came out quick but the food took about 20-30 minutes to come out and they all came out one or two at a time. Orange Wine - delicious, best part of the meal. Shrimp Toast - I love shrimp toast so I was looking forward to this one but it was soooo oily, the bread soaked up so much of the oil and the shrimp was really salty, it was difficult to finish without feeling nauseous. Kimchi Vodka Pasta - was the kimchi in the room with us? It was bland, no kimchi flavor or pieces in the pasta, barilla pasta...., I just didn't think it was worth the price point. Chicken Nurungji - I could not eat this, I had one little bite and just could not. So salty, texture was off, the egg yolk still had egg white around it!!! Every time I saw my friend take a bite, there was egg white pieces falling off her fork. Chimmelier KFC - This came out last, I've had chimmelier's honey butter chicken wings before and thought it was tasty and well cooked. This was the sweet n sour one, we thought this was gonna be deeelicious but alas, we were disappointed yet again. They were chicken tenders, not wings. You had to dip it in the sauce (sauce was good). There was like no chicken there, just sooo much batter. I feel like the oil was old, because the chicken just tasted like old oil. Unfortunately, we just did not love our experience here. And my friend and I actually felt nauseous after our meal so we ended up throwing up our $100+ meal :-( Service was fine, the host and our server were friendly. If I were just rating for the food, it'd be 5 stars. Everything we got was flavorful, it was definitely more upscale than your standard Korean bar food so based on just what we ate, I'd definitely go back. However, I'll echo what another review wrote on January 26. We arrived as a walk-in and we were told to write our name down on the waitlist. We watched as others did the same, a few went off to the side inside, and we went outside. Then we watched as a huge party came in (about 10 of them) and was seated within 5 minutes. Confused, one of us asked the owner/manager what the wait would be like (since the original host that told us to write our name down never said anything). And he said, oh we have to make room for other parties that made an rsvp, so there's no guarantees we could be seated. ??? Why weren't we told that in the first place? Anyway, so I asked oh, there's no resy or opentable, so could you tell us how we would make an rsvp? And he said, yeah basically just through Instagram DM. Loooool So the huge group, presumably about to go to Mama Lion nearby, sits, and I guess the rsvp they had was reduced so luckily, the manager came by again and said that actually, they can seat us sooner (since originally he offered us bar seating for the 4 of us within 20 minutes). I gave this new bar a try, and wow! Everyone was incredibly nice. Our server, Anni, was super attentive and friendly. Since I live nearby, I wanted to check this place out, and I'm glad I did. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food was delicious. Their wagyu sashimi was incredible, and the pasta with burrata cheese was really tasty. The tuna tartare made a great anju (tapas). The nurungji risotto was catered more to American tastes, so it was a bit salty for me (I'm Korean), but they remade the dish, and it was perfect! Chef Michael really knows how to customize dishes to suit personal preferences. The owner was also very knowledgeable about all the makgeolli and drinks. My friends and I had an awesome time, and this place is definitely going to be our go-to spot! read more

Came here with a few girlfriends over the weekend. We were lucky because a reservation opened up the day we were meeting! Reservations have been booked out the week of. However, I saw another group of 2 do a walk in with no wait time. We had a reservation for a party of 3 at 7:15 pm. We arrived right on time and were told our table was being cleaned and it should take about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, the hostess came out again, apologized and said another 5 minutes. We were left waiting outside until we were seated at 7:40 pm. I don't mind waiting until a table opens up, but she shouldn't say a table was being cleaned for us when it wasn't. Hopefully the customer service here improves. The food here is pretty good. All dishes are bite size and my faves were the shrimp toast, tuna, and cheese ball. Drinks: We ordered the makgeolli flight and thought the melon flavored one was the best. Otherwise the other ones just take like wine more on the sour/bitter side. Food: Don't expect the food to be like a hearty meal. It's mostly finger foods that you pair with the drinks. We ordered the soddeok and the pasta. I had a reservation for 4 on Wednesday night and it was busy. The loud music doesn't really match the aesthetic, and the minimalist furnishing means sounds really echo here. It's hard to hear others at the table talking. We tried all four main dishes available in the menu that day. I really enjoyed the two pasta dishes, and I thought the doenjang cream pasta was very unique and went well with scallops. But at $20, the plating and the portion size leave a lot to be desired. I was surprised they felt fine serving a dish looking like this. And I think among four people, we each had one bite. I found the ribs themselves to be kind of sparse meat-wise and dry. Before anything, shout out to Marvin! He was extremely attentive. The rest of the staff were super polite and helpful as well. For 4 people, we ordered 7 items from the menu, and tried 2 cocktails (Case Study and Seoul Highball), the Makgeolli flight, and Mungyeong Baram Soju 24. Marvin's recommendation on the Soju was on point. For food, we tried the Honey Butter Chip, Shrimp Toast, Wagyu Yukhwe, Uni Tteokbokki, Rigatoni Alla Kimchi Vodka, Jja Jang Poutine, and Chimmelier Sijang Tongdak. Collectively, we all loved the food. Marvin did warn us that we should do maximum 4-5, and yes, we ended up with extra food :) We will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu and repeat of the items we already had. read more

Food: We ordered the Rigatoni alla kimchi vodka (delicious and my favorite dish but portions were so small for $20), baby back rib (also very delicious and good portion!) and the chimmelier KFC (very crispy and good but tasted bland without the dipping sauce) Service: Seems like there was only one real server and the owner (?) who would once in a while check in on us. We had to keep flagging the server down to ask for more water and inquire about our order so it was a little annoying. Food also took a really long time to come out. The inside doesn't fit a lot of parties so not sure if the long wait time was due to a small kitchen, short staff, or what but not a place to go to if you're really hungry and want to eat asap. Ambiance: Very small and dark inside--my friend and I thought it was closed at first when we walked up. The music was also playing a little too loud to the point that it was hard to talk without having to yell even though we were sitting right next to each other. Wouldn't recommend this place if you're trying to catch up with a friend. All in all, cool place to check out if you're interested in trying new places but don't know if I would return again. Room for growth! Kimchi rigatoni was absolutely delicious as was the cheeseball small plate. Wish I'd seen the reviews about the KFC--should have skipped! You awkwardly dip it in a sauce instead of the chicken just being dressed in the sauce. Messy! Wish they'd given us wet wipes after. Little details like that would go a long way. We got a strawberry refresher drink that came in a big glass with lots of ice but they didn't have straws. So you have to avoid choking on the ice lol. The servers are nice but they seem really rushed and overwhelmed. No doubt they can get there with time. Will check them out again down the road! read more

Let me just say, vibes were immaculate. It's a bit small inside but you don't really notice because the dim lighting combined with the lively atmosphere is such a good time. Service was great and food came out in a timely manner. We got the shrimp toast, the kimchi vodka rigatoni, and the chicken with a glass of orange wine. The shrimp toast was so yummy and had a good sauce to cut the oiliness. The kimchi pasta was unique and came with bacon. The chicken was deliciously crispy and had a very yummy dipping sauce. Definitely a great place to take a date or just a night out with some friends! Be sure to reserve ahead of time though. read more
