    Wonton (Shrimp) Soup

Jim Chai Kee, known for their delicious comfort food, has a simple menu offering Noodle Soups, Lo Mein, or Soup with Toppings. The choice of toppings is pretty much the same, regardless of which base you choose. On this visit, we had the Beef Lo Mein and the Beef and Fishball Lo Mein, both served with soup on the side. We also had the Wonton Noodle Soup and a side of Vegetables with Oyster Sauce. It was a simple, delicious, and inexpensive meal. Comfort food!

Usually not a wonton/vermicelli person but my family has a soft spot for this type of cuisine. We had the shrimp wonton with egg noodle and beef vermicelli. Both bowls might not look visually appealing (photo below was staged for presentation). But the overall taste was excellent both by itself and with the condiments on the side. Prices are fair with most dishes priced at $10-12. Service is pretty standard for a canto restaurant and the menu is small, but simple is good!

Wasn't too busy when my husband and I arrived at 530pm, we got a booth by the window. The aunties that worked who worked there gave us tea and time time to look over the menu. We both ordered the A1-Signature Noodle with wonton, beef and fishballs paired with egg noodles! Our meals came within minutes - there were lots of noodles, 2 large shrimp wontons, 2 large fishballs and a bunch of tender beef. We were able to pair with chili oil, white pepper powder, vinegar and soy sauce. Very happy with portion size! The soup base was tasty as well. We would come back again!

I came for lunch with colleagues. I ordered the wonton and beef soup , the price was reasonable. There were table available when we went around 11:30am . Lots of parking spaces. The wontons were big and the soup was quite hot. However the beef I felt like it was too soft. There is no need to even chew the beef, it just melts in my mouth... which, is not my preference for beef. It is just too soft for my liking. Maybe I don't know how to appreciate it. Anyway but generally very nice and services were excellent. I came here since many years ago and never knew it was on the Michelin list .

This is a great Hong Kong style noodle house.  We actually ate at their flagship store in Hong Kong back in 2014, so it was of curiosity to compare.  And indeed, the quality and value is tip-top excellent.   The space is also smallish and cozy, and in the style of their flagship store and other typical Hong Kong noodle shops.  Our party of 5 had 5 different noodle soups, all excellent.  All of the noodle soup offerings are in the modest $10-13 CAD range.  These were: A1 wonton, beef, and fish ball w signature noodles A2 wonton with egg noodles  A6 wonton and fish ball w rice noodles A8 plain noodles (mine, as I was stuffed) C1 wonton, beef, and fish ball signature bowl  The pre-tip bill for the 5 generous bowls was just $58.76 CAD or $43.21 USD.  It was a delicious light lunch on a chilly winter day up here.

Excellent food, came piping hot. Excellent pricing as well. Good portion size. The service is efficient and they doubled checked when they took the orders (ie they made sure I didn't want noodles). The dining area is very clean, as were all the dishes and utensils. They do have the best crispy chilli oil in the GTA!! (House made)

Best HK Wonton Noodle Soup in GTA. Prices are very low and at great value even after inflation. Soup is nice and clean. Noodles are perfectly cooked. Service is courteous and quick. The hot chili oil is amazing and worth coming here just for it. If you like Jim Chai Kee in HK. This is just as good but they have beef as well.

More 3.5! I love their shrimp wontons. But that is about it... :( I got the fish ball and shrimp wonton with flat rice noodle. The soup broth was decent but a bit cloudy. The shrimp was juicy and had good texture. However the fish ball... it was more like a square piece of fish cake. Still a little undercooked in the middle. The noodles had a bit of texture but was a little over cooked and kept on breaking off into one inch chunks. Overall I probably would not be back but if I do, I would only get the shrimp wontons.

Good idea for lunch! Quick service. Huge wonton. Decent price It was my first time trying Jim Chai Kee Wonton Noodle. I've heard how huge & delicious of their shrimp wontons are for a long time. They met the expectation. The price is decent too! We also grabbed some fresh wontons and fish ball paste to-go. I forget to get their house made chilli sauce though. A friend of mine told me he likes it because of how spicy it is. If you like spicy chilies, I think it's a good idea to try it!

Wonton noodle soup? In Scarborough? And a good price? Sign me up! Located in a huge plaza off of Midland, this place is a great place to get high quality food with a low price. So, not surprised they raised their prices over the years (years ago this dish was about $5, now it's $8), but for the amount of food and the quality, it's still a good deal! Went here in a few months ago for takeout for the shrimp/beef noodle soup (it's cash only). They separated the noodles and the wontons in separate containers so as not to get soggy (yes!). The shrimp wonton were delicious- just the right about of bite to them. The beef perfectly cooked. The noodles had a great texture (probably better fresh in dining and not takeout, but you gotta take what you can get), and the broth was light and flavourful. Definitely get the chilli oil to add on for a fiery bite! Slurp away my friends! A great meal on a cold night :)

Fast, delicious wonton noodle soup. Huge wontons the size of a fist with thin wrapping, and lots of shrimp and pork. Thin but strong egg noodles. Delicious soup with a little white pepper.

I had lunch here with my parents and it was excellent. My dad got the A1 ($9) which was wontons, beef, and fish balls with noodles soup. My mom got the C2 ($8) which was wontons in soup (no noodles). I got the C1 ($10) which was wontons, beef and fish balls in soup (no noodles). The A1 comes with 2 wontons and 2 fish balls, whereas the C1 comes with 3 wontons and 3 fish balls. My mom's C2 came with 6 wontons. The food came out so fast. There is a self-serve area where you get your own water or tea and the food came out before we finished getting our tea (which we proceeded to do as soon as we finished ordering). Really awesome if you are pressed for time, lol. The wontons were huge. Like the size of a golf ball, and they were stuffed with shrimp. The beef slices were soft and tender, and I loved that the cut was lean, no fatty or gristley pieces. The fish balls were essentially fish meatballs. They were slightly chewy and didn't taste too fishy, which I liked. The broth wasn't all that flavourful, but at least it wasn't too salty or too oily/fatty. Staff were friendly and service was really quick. The restaurant is modern and clean looking. It's in a strip mall with lots of free parking. Inexpensive delicious food, generous portions, friendly staff, clean restaurant and free parking. That's perfection, no? 5 stars :)

I was surprised that there was no line on a weekday during lunch time ~12:00, especially since other reviewers made mention of long wait times. I guess I was lucky. Anyway, since there was no line, I got my meal quickly. The soups are waiting in pots at the front, so the service is fast as they just need to scoop up your soup of choice. I got a small soup meal, so I was able to choose 2 sides from a collection of breads and fruits/veggies. I decided to go for the Moroccan Madness Vegetable Medley with sides of a multigrain ciabatta bun and apple. The soup was good, definitely fresh, flavourful, and better than your average canned soup, but I wasn't blown away. Plus, the meal was kind of pricey for what I got. For these reasons I only rated them as 3 stars. However, I'm really only basing my review on one out of many different soup options. Maybe some of the other flavours are better. I would go back to try a different soup.
