I have lived in Bham my whole life, but never ate at jim and Nicks. But I heard alot about it. Jim and Nicks was catered to me, and it was good. The cheese biscuits arent really biscuits but muffins. They werent dry but very moist. We had chopped chicken with Bbq sauce. The Chicken was different pieces of the chicken. but it was very most and tasty. The sauce, usually i dont do sauce, however it wasnt to tomato-ie or vinger-ie it was the perfect blend of the too. the greens were oily, with seasonings, however to me it wasnt enough seasoning. I'm ok with the oily greens. cause I like it like that. Everything was good to me. We have enjoyed most visits to Jim and Nicks,Trussville ,Hoover and Greystone. Tonights meal while being the only people in dining room was a disappointment. Unfortunately, Mother's Day take-out remains consistent with Jim 'N Nick's ongoing inability to accurately fill an order. With a $150 order, they put in a wrong pie, no BBQ sauce at all with four pounds of meat, even when extra sauce was ordered, etc. For a while, 3 out of 4 drive-through orders were either wrong or had items missing. Several instances were shared with the manager in hopes of improved results, which they were for a while. However, this will be the last time to ever accept an order unchecked before leaving, regardless of how long the line is. But come to think of it, there are other fine BBQ locations in the area who might just enjoy a visit from one of their competitor's former loyal fans. read more

My first experience here after hearing nothing but good things from my Alabama friends was nothing short of amazing. We managed to get there before the wait became over an hour, and we were seated immediately. The first thing that came were the cheesy biscuits, which were out of this world!!! Make sure to ask for the honey butter! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich which came with fries and the kids chicken tenders (only $4!) which came with a cup of fresh fruit. For the two of us that was more than enough food, but if you are very hungry then it probably won't be enough. The barbecue sauce on the pulled pork was delicious- slightly sweet and tangy. The chicken tenders were very juicy and flavorful but my favorite detail was the honey mustard sauce. My boyfriend insisted that I try the chocolate pie as well so even though we were so full, we got a slice to go. I tried a bite on our way out and WOW- this pie is so rich, sweet, and tasty! Our first experience with southern BBQ and we were not disappointed. Delicious cheddar biscuits (that were more like muffins to those of us from New England). I had loaded Mac and cheese that would have been amazing on its own but was even better with pulled pork on top. The peanut butter pie was spectacular, the sweet tea was wonderful, and our server and the manager were fantastic. We came in at night so the cheese biscuits where cold (I wasn't expecting them to be fresh) , my steak was great the only thing that spooked me was the piece of mold I found on the side of my potato. The manager insisted everything was ok and it wasn't mold she then offered a free slice of pie. Starting with the positives: What we got to eat of our food was good. We were seated promptly and our orders were correct. My husband had the pig in the garden salad. I had the BBQ nachos and our 3 year old had the chicken tenders kids meal. Now for the negatives: When our server brought the bill it was for $25. My husband gave the server our credit card. When it came time to sign the bill, our credit card had been charged $35 instead of $25. The server had added an additional pig in the garden salad to our check after taking our credit card. Perhaps he thought we wouldn't notice?? Since it was going to take a minute for my husband to find our server and sort the charges out, I took our restless little guy outside. My husband stepped away from the table for less than a couple of minutes to flag someone down to help with the check. During those few minutes my husband saw our server throw away our takeout boxes. (They included our three year old's entire meal and more than half of mine!) When my husband asked our server about it he lied and blamed it on the busboy! With the billing "mistake" and being lied to about/not getting to bring our leftovers home, we won't be back. read more

I've been eating Jim & Nicks for years and its always good. But the last two times were disappointing. I got a pound of BBQ and was making a sandwich and found a big round bone. Thank goodness I saw it because for sure it would have broken a tooth. I didn't eat there again for along time until yesterday. I ordered ribs and BBQ pork with the cheese biscuits. The biscuits were good as usual but the rest sucked. The ribs and BBQ were very fatty and the ribs were so greasy I just couldn't eat them. I went to the Greystone location both times. The place was crowded and noisy and we had to wait in the waiting room for fourty-five minutes although the hostess only said the wait would be twenty minutes. After we ordered our food, we had to wait another hour for our food to arrive. But, when it did arrive the taste was amazing. I ordered the baby back ribs and they tasted very fresh and delicious. On multiple occasions I have sat and waited 15-20 minutes just to receive my meal which is always missing something whether it be BBQ sauce or a side item, or the order is just completely wrong. The special was prime rib, which I ordered. My wife had the grilled chicken. When we got our food I was brought a ribeye instead of prime rib. At first I didn't say anything. I though since it was a BBQ place and I got a ribeye when asking for prime rib it was my fault for not getting BBQ. I told my wife "maybe this is a prime cut of ribeye." it was not. I've had a better ribeye at applebees. I mentioned it to the server who honestly seemed to think she brought me what I ordered. When I got up to leave I saw other people eating prime rib! I mentioned it to a manager who offered to give me one to go. Already full I declined. A voucher or credit of some kind would've been nice but I didn't press the issue. My fault for not calling foul when it was set down instead of having a few bites first. The bread was awesome and the beer selection was sufficient. I love to try local brews when I can and they had plenty I'd never heard of. My wife says the chicken was mediocre. Oh where do I start. So we walk in and are immediately greeted and brought to a table. After waiting 15 minutes to be waited on, a girl finally comes up and takes our drink order. And yes I know some people want to save the turtles but I did not know that Jim N Nicks was "BYOS". So, then we were exhilarated to get the cheesy, buttery, soft biscuits Jim N Nicks is famous for. But, we had to ask for them 3 times before we finally got some. 30 minutes passed and we finally got our biscuits. But. No butter. NO BUTTER. How do I eat these without butter?? So, it was now time to order our food. I asked her about something that was on the lunch menu, then I was quickly denied. So, I settled with a pulled pork sandwich. At this time, our tea is gone (still no straws). Now, we sit patiently as we await our food. 45 minutes later we are brought out our plates of food. My mouth was watering and my stomach was eating itself at this point. I get my food to look at what was supposed to be a pulled pork sandwich. But, it was just meat. On. A. Plate. So I nicely correct them and ask for a bun. After being told that she would bring my bun "right out" for me, I waited about 30 minutes and had to remind her 4 times. After getting my bun, I was not going to be difficult so I made my own sandwich. Again. Still. No straws. Or a refill. So, we nicely ask if we can get another basket of the amazing, beautiful biscuits. After another 15 minutes, we are thrilled to see a woman walking towards us with a basket of biscuits. We were on the verge of tears when we saw that our basket contained 2 biscuits. TWO. BISCUITS. at this point, we have been at the restaurant for 2 hours and don't want to be a burden for any longer. So we don't say anything. Oh, and I forgot to mention. She brought us our butter when we were done eating the biscuits. Overall, the Jim n Nicks on highway 280 is not the move if you are hungry. It's a lovely place if you want to spend 3 hours and get average service. Food is always great. My parents live nearby and order take out a lot. While we have no problems with the food itself, and love it, we frequently have little issues that we discover after we get home such as getting too little sauce (as is in only a couple ounces for a 4 person meal), or other random issues that prevents me from giving this place a full 5 stars. Though on their part their manager actually delivered cheese biscuits to us that were missing once (drove to our house), and even threw in some free pie. For many years JNN was one of our favorite restaurants, and we ate at either this location or the one near the Galleria at least twice a month. However, over the last couple of years the quality of service has seriously declined and we were getting pretty discouraged with it. I spoke to the manager about it; he was polite but said that with low unemployment that was the best he could do. The last straw was when they started carding me, even though I was born in 1950. I spoke with the manager about that, too. Again, he was polite enough, and said that Alabama law required him to do it. Maybe, but we've eaten out 3 evenings a week on average for many years and NO ONE else has ever carded me. If the quality of the service kept up with that of the food, I'd just ignore it, but it's stupid and irritating, and blowing me off plus the continued poor service just make it clear JNN doesn't care about our business, so we'll be going elsewhere from now on. We ate a mid-afternoon meal here on a Saturday. They weren't very busy, so I was seated right away. We lived in the Bham area about 10 years ago and have recently moved here again. Jim 'N Nick's, in our opinion, has gone downhill in their food quality. The bbq pork is always tough and dry now. They add a very small quantity of meat to their loaded potatoes. The bbq sauce tastes a bit odd. We ordered two slices of pie, lemon and coconut. The pieces were about half the size of what they were when we lived here previously. The coconut had very little coconut in it and the cream topping on the lemon tasted like whipped cream that had been left uncovered in the refrigerator a couple of days. Brought that to the attention of our server whose only remark was that yeah, it probably has taken on the taste of something else in the refrigerator. What?!? Gross! Wrong answer!! I have spread out my visits to Jim and NIcks to once every few months and each time I get sick from that pink meat. When I smoke my meat it is NOT pink so I think they need to cook it a bit longer. You have to try this! I am a huge fan of the BBQ pork sandwich and this place wins hands down. The sandwich was just right, moist, juicy, and flavorful. I didn't know it had a drive thru location. It's always packed on Sundays right when church lets out so there's always a long wait time for that. However, their prices on everything were made considerably higher a little more than a year ago, so I don't go quite as often. read more
