This review is specifically about booking their reserved room and our experience with it. We decided we were going to come here for our rehearsal dinner for our wedding as it half way between our wedding venue and the hotels most of the out of town guests were staying at, so it was a good middle ground. All throughout, the managers I spoke to on the phone were very nice, professional, and accommodating. They even let us pick out our own, special menu for that night and distributed it to our guests. We reserved the guest dining space, which was just large enough to fit all of us. The night of the dinner, everything went great. We fought 280 traffic to get here on time, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Parking might have been the only issue we experienced. The staff were amazing and made sure everyone was taken care of throughout the night. The food was great, and everyone commented on the choices and the easiness of it all. This isn't a review we wanted to do. After a good meal with good service we were surprised and upset to find an unauthorized tip added to our bill. We've long chosen to pay using a debit card and cash for tipping, always writing CASH where the tip place is on the bill. We place the cash under the receipt and tip well. First time eating at this location but have eaten at several different location and every time was a great experience. I ordered the Carolina Pulled pork, cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. The pulled pork had a little spice to it and was overall outstanding. The Mac and cheese was just so so and the cole slaw was great mixed with my pulled pork. To drink I ordered a Palmer but added two packs of sugar. It was sweet without but those two packs made it great lol! The customer service was awesome thanks to our server Remy. Worst management ever!!! My family and I have been faithful customers to this location during the last year. The last few times, our orders were missing something!! Note, that each time, the restaurant prints the correct order on the ticket. I've called and attempted to express my frustration with the manager and nothing! I'll add that since the last few times we ordered through Waitr, the manager always say there's nothing she can do since it was ordered through a third party. How about making sure EACH order goes out as they should! How about training your employees to do their job! While the customer service is great, and the workers are very kind, they get our orders wrong EVERY SINGLE time we place a drive through or call in order. It was my first time at Jim 'N Nick's and i opted for the pulled pork slider with mac n cheese and cole slaw. Ordered online curbside pickup, which was easy. Got my order and they forgot to give me utensils for the sides. I had to go to the restaurant and ask. Fine. When i ate my first bite, it was good. After a few more bites in, the pork was dry. I had to wash it down with my drink. The sides were good. Perhaps i need to try the ribs next time around. This experience warrants a 3/5, but hopefully better in the future. read more

RJ brought me here to experience the ribs. I have never had them before. We shared an order of baby back ribs which came with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and mini cheese muffins. Wow, carb overload! The ribs were tender and smoky and juicy. The sauce had the right amount of sweetness and a vinegary kick, and the ribs just fell apart and melted in our mouths. The Mac and cheese was extra cheesy with more baked on cheese on top. Mashed potatoes were good, and the gravy was peppery. But the dessert was the best part, banana pudding! This was my first time eating banana pudding and this was clearly made from scratch with fresh whipped cream. Amazing, and only 3.99! I don't remember her name, but she was extremely helpful - always making sure our drinks were filled and our biscuit basket was full. I ordered a chopped Southern Salad - fresh chopped lettuce, fried chicken, grilled vegetables, pecans, bacon, cucumbers, tomatoes and cheddar. Great spot for bbq. Love the Carolina sauce. The food is always good, and predictable. Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pulled pork, etc. The pork is never dry or stringy, there's always a lot of it, and the price is decent. Quick meal not too far from home. And of course those cheddar rolls that everyone loves...its hard to get enough of them. Don't go here unless you plan on leaving stuffed. One last tip, the sweet tea. It's deadly. They definitely do the whole super sweet, syrupy tea, so if that's not your thing, get them to mix half unsweetened with it, or just get the unsweetened tea to begin with. One of these gotta eat but don't have a taste for nothing nights. Settled on a Beef Brisket Plate. It was delicious and tender. Good choice on the cut of meat. How the darn sides was a complete bust. The baked beans were candy sweet and the potato salad was just bland. I've had both before and I know that they're better than this so I'll just say it was a fluke at this location. I just got home from Nashville. I wanted a good hamburger. Waited in their drive thru for 20 minutes. The lady accidentally charged me $14 for someone else's order. She said it would be back in my bank, but doesn't know when. Then I get home to find that my burgers were barely cooked. This place is going down hill at a rapid pace. I ordered the chicken, ribs and brisket. Coming from where I do, brisket is always a must for bbq. The chicken had no flavor, if not for the sauce it was covered with, I am not sure why I have to select a sauce for my meat? Same for the ribs, I removed the sauces to try and even find some spice, pepper, salt and nothing only the sauce. I've been a Jim 'N Nick's customer for over 20 years and sadly, I've seen it decline rapidly in the last 5-6 years...especially the last 18 months. Not only are the waitstaff mediocre, but the food is average to below average (and it once held the top spot for me and my family's favorite Bbq) and the prices have increased as the food quality has diminished. It's tragic to see a B'ham staple go down while new Bbq restaurants open monthly in the area.
