The pulled pork sandwich had some bone shards in them, but it was tasty. The sausage egg biscuit could've come from a frozen Jimmy Dean's package for all I know. We moved up to Franklin from Birmingham a couple of months back and we were so excited to see a Jim n Nick's nearby! But we're really disappointed with the store here. We've been here for dinner and lunch several times, and each time the service left quite a bit to be desired, and our dinner tonight was really terrible. We ordered the chips and queso, a grilled cheese with fries, a chopped salad and a turkey plate. We'd also asked for a side of fruit. The food showed up before the queso, the fruit never materialized, the food was cold. Like, the grilled cheese was toast with two cheese slices on it. The fries were cold. The side dishes for the turkey plate were cold and the chopped salad wasn't chopped. Our server brought out the queso after a little bit and placed it directly in front of our toddler. Strike one, then we went to dip our chips (which were cold and greasy) into the cheese, it was totally liquid but stone cold. It's like they put too much milk in the dip because there's no cheese dip on earth that will be pure liquid and be cold. We asked for another queso, it came out warmer but still more milk than cheese. My water was low for most of the meal and I was never offered a refill, although my husband got two refills on his tea. The insult to the injury was that the manager (I assume he was the manager) was more interested in watching the football game than checking on us after our server told him she removed our cheese dip from the bill. I have never had a poor experience from Jim-n-Nicks...until now. There was no real crowd to speak of when I walked in--just average busy. I sat down and placed me order. I was brought some tepid muffins, which appeared to have been sitting out a while. The brisket was unusually fatty and very tough/dry bark. It not even close to the quality of Jim & Nicks in B'ham. This week, the service was particularly slow (its usually slow) and our dinner tasted like leftovers from lunch or maybe the day before. This is hands down the best barbecue I've had so far! The ambiance is great and there are a ton of booths to choose from. I love when restaurants have comfortable seating. The servers always start you off with the famous cheesy corn muffins (literally worth it to eat there just for the muffins). The food comes out quick too. I've tried the pulled pork sandwich, the sausages, the brisket and all the sides on the menu! I've never been disappointed! The meat has the perfect smokiness. I've had a catered meal from this restaurant several times but never been to their restaurant. I had a pretty good experience at Jim N Nick's but I'll start with the small details. Comfy booths, thick napkins, and for people who appreciate crushed ice, you can find it here. It sounds like a small thing, but it's not! We were seated quickly and our server was very nice. Also! The cheddar biscuits! You get a free basket of four little biscuits, they are hot, and cheesy and so good! It was a great appetizer to stave off hunger pains while we looked through the menu. Now for the important part: the food! My boyfriend and I split the pulled pork plate. It had a good smokey flavor. I recommend asking for the white BBQ sauce. They don't keep it at the table but you can ask for a side of it and it's amazing! I should have bought a bottle. It is creamy, spicy and peppery which is a great compliment to their smoked meat. The onion rings are amazing, fresh, but if you don't like thick breading, you may not be a fan. I usually like a thin crispy onion ring breading but these were delicious. (Make sure you ask for ketchup if you want some for your sides because they don't automatically bring it to the table) One thing I was disappointed about was the fries. They had a stale texture, they weren't seasoned and no amount of salt or dipping sauce could make them taste good. The wings here are the best!! Mac and cheese is great, too. We come here literally just for that. I mostly use the drive thru which takes some time, but is still pretty convenient. When I was just here, I did have a very odd exchange with the drive through worker who took my order. Food is good, but EVERY single time we order togo from this location they forget things. After the last couple times of having half our food missing, I called back and spoke to Al the manager. He apologized that our food was missing and said if we drove back (20 minutes out of our way) to come pick up our food he would give us free deserts. I said "okay i'm coming i'll be there in twenty". I arrive and the staff conveniently says "Oh Al isn't here". and refuse to give us our missing food and promised deserts. Two kinds of BBQ served. Tomato based and vinegar based. Tomato called their traditional and vinegar called Carolina. I had their Carolina style which is the Eastern style. Jim 'N Nick's started out as an Alabama BBQ "Joint" and has since grown throughout the southeast. It has evolved into a nice casual restaurant with appropriately themed decor and a full bar. Tonight I ordered the full rack of Baby Back Ribs. Before the meal came out they served us their signature cheese biscuits, which are little drops from heaven. These were fresh out of the oven and wonderful. The food took a little longer to come out but the Waiter, Lelend, acknowledged that. I know it is out of his control but I appreciate his awareness. Overall Leland did a nice job and was very on it. The ribs were hot and good, with a nice balance between tender and firm textures. Portions are as expected or better. This is a great place for southern barbecue, even with a date. If you can still fit in more, try the banana pudding. read more

Please note, this review is based on the Cool Springs location only. ***Pros: Fresh peach tea, fried catfish and fries. ***Cons: Service, price, buns, BBQ, beans and sauces. My husband and I walk in the front door to find the brunette hostess messing around on an iPad. She did not make eye contact until we had already walked up and stood in front of her for about 10 seconds, no exaggeration. She said, "Two?" We confirmed that there were only two people in our party and she began walking around, looking around the restaurant. She came back to the hostess stand, grabbed two menus, and as she started walking away, said, "It will be about 5 minutes." Confused with her demeanor, we gave her our name. After about 10 minutes, we told another blonde hostess that we wouldn't mind sitting outside and she sat us immediately. Our server, Ashley, came to take our drink order after we had been seated for about 5 minutes. I ordered the peach tea, my husband the peach sangria. It took another 5 minutes to get our drinks, which were dropped off with two small appetizer plates. Our server came back to take our order, I ordered the traditional pork BBQ sandwich with baked beans, my husband- the catfish BLT and fries. We were told biscuits would be brought out. The biscuits never came. The BBQ sandwich was fine; dry non-toasted bun, two neon green pickles and a small portion of pulled pork. The side of baked beans tasted mostly of green bell peppers. Both were presented on a big plate, the side in a small bowl on the empty looking plate and for almost $9, I already felt ripped off before eating the meal. The two sauces on the table are very vinegar-y and loose: there's sugar + vinegar and a spicier version. My husband's catfish BLT was ample, the catfish was moist with a crispy cornmeal crust and perfect bacon with a side of darn good fries. Our server performed a quality check after I had already eaten my sandwich completely and our drinks were empty. I was honest and said my meal was "okay", also noting that I wasn't a fan of the beans. She didn't say anything about my remarks but rather, "Would you like a refill on your peach tea?" I said, "Yes if refills are free, otherwise no, an unsweetened tea or water will be fine." She said she would check and would also bring us some biscuits. The biscuits still never came but a refill of peach tea did, which I was under the impression was free, given my request. Rushing around too many tables in her section, she dropped our bill. To our surprise, the peach tea refill was not free. We spent $39 after tip, weren't cared for very well upon entering, did not ever receive their "famous" cheese biscuits, were lied to and overcharged for drinks, were given BBQ that needed improvement, sauces that left a lot to be desired, and the feeling of being under appreciated and over charged for everything about our meal. Terrible experience this evening. We are frequent customers but have noticed a major change of late. We should have been tipped off by the empty parking lot at 6:00. Waited 15 minutes for a server to come to our table, then another 8 minutes for the drinks. Then we ordered an appetizer that came to our table cold. After barely eating that, the server came back out to let us know that what we'd ordered for dinner was unavailable. At this point we just asked for the check. Here is why I give this restaurant a 2 star--and I really want to give them 1 on this but, I will start with 2. Food: These cheesy biscuits were served cold. I do not recommend these at all--they come to your table free and they were gross. Don't waste your time and calorie count on this at all. We had the Queso w/ sausage--this again was served cold. We had two chunks of sausage thrown in this cold cheese. Told our waitress it was cold and she looked at us with a, "I know", look and I just threw my hands up. In Franklin on business and decided to try some BBQ, so we found Jim N Nick's and we had a wonderful experience. I love walking into a restaurant and being greeted with a smile and a come on in. That just set the tone. The atmosphere is fun and casual, the waiters all looked like college dudes hanging out. Our waiter, who was super friendly, looked like a young Samuel Clemens, bushy hair and mustache and all. The bbq was excellent. I had the pig sandwich and my companion had the bbq nachos... both were very good. The BBQ sauce was very good. Oh and the waiter brought out free onion rings because it was our first time there, which added to the southern feel and charm of the place. For a starter we had deviled eggs, which I don't think I have ever seen on a menu anywhere...they were delicious. And for desert we split a piece of pecan pie...awesome! Being well traveled, I have had the opportunity to search for the best barbecue available across the United States. Of course, as you travel, you discover that barbecue is not as homogeneous as one might think in California. For example, teriffic barbecue in Kansas City (Arthur Bryant's) is completely different than also terrific barbecue in Texas (Rudy's), which is rather different from incredible Southern Barbecue in Nashville (Martin's Barbecue Joint). I have found that barbecue may change regionally, but turns out that I like it all. Lol. I am not a barbecue fanatic, but I generally find things to savor in a region's interpretation. My wife, however, is not much of a barbecue fan at all. Getting her to even try Jim and Nicks with me was no small task. But, when we had visitors from another state who wanted to try the barbecue they had heard was so great in the South, I saw my opportunity for us all to try this new arrival to the Franklin dining scene. I was put on guard almost immediately, though, when I realized this was a chain restaurant. Typically, large chains put out a bland and boring product that is unremarkable at best. I had some trepidation that this might be the case here. Add to that that the dining room was almost completely empty. I wondered what everyone else knew that we didn't. But my fears were very quickly put to rest when the waiter showed up with a basket of piping hot and unspeakably addictive cheddar corn muffins. These things are crazy good. Worth a trip all by themselves! And when the waiter realized we were "first timers", he promptly came out with a platter of all the different meats on the menu. I was shocked to discover that, even though this was a chain, all the meats were smoked on site, and all the food on the menu is made onsite FROM SCRATCH! And that there are NO frozen ingredients ever. (They don't even HAVE a freezer!) Then I sampled the meats...... WOW ! I mean, SERIOUSLY! I could not believe it was a chain. Actually, although it sounds hard to believe, this was the best barbecue I have had maybe anywhere! (Although, Arthur Bryant's is cray awesome !) And the side dishes were also amazing! Best Onion Rings ever, best Mac and Cheese ever! We were blown away! Even my Wife was amazed. Stunningly, this has become one of my wife's favorite restaurants! (We have been back many times, now.) The service is great. The food is amazing. The decor is appealing and feature's local flair. Without a doubt our best chain experience ever. Really one of the best restaurants of any kind in the area. Barbecue is pretty subjective. People hold strong opinions about their personal faves. I have picked up food to go twice on my day off from working at my own restaurant & found the food & service to be very good. I enjoyed the deviled eggs & potato salad especially because I love the variety of styles. May not be for every one but the potatoes were cooked soft with a mayo/mustard base & I believe some egg in there if I remember correctly. Very Southern style. The Cuban sandwich was delicious & of course all slow smoked pork is a sinful indulgence. Too bad I think the drive through takes away from what is a great building & dining/bar area. I had been to the Jim 'N Nicks on Charlotte a few times, even though it's out of my way. So glad we have another location now that is closer to where I normally go. Went there yesterday, and as I expected, they have delicious food, friendly service and a cool atmosphere. The prices are reasonable as well. The cheese biscuits rock and the BBQ and sides are plenty good and big servings too. I know lots of folks hate chains but for good tasting casual food at a place with a bar, this chain is one of the better ones. It actually makes me sad to write this review...JNN should really advertise that they have gone to counter service only...this would have made a huge impact on our dining decision...you order at a counter, make your own drinks, God forbid you want to order alcohol. You have to scan a QR code and get your drinks after your food has arrived, hope ya don't want a second one. I understand being short handed, being in this business, but you now have to pay more for food runners that don't care if you need anything else. Our food arrived cold and no one to fix it-apparently there wasn't a proper line check done before opening. My Husband, who rarely criticizes a restaurant, was immediately turned off by the setup, no time to order while you have people standing behind you. And he was taken aback by the fact that you have a screen for a tip...who are you going to tip when you are serving yourself??? Jim and Nick's have lost all sense of service. This concept probably works for people that have zero personality that do not enjoy interacting with the staff. That's part of the enjoyment of dining in-social interactions. Only one person, a young black gentleman that was engaging with everyone, was the only positive part of the experience. I wish I had gotten his name to say Kudos to him. When we first started going to this restaurant, we were smitten. Fell in love with their loaded BBQ baker! The service was great, we could get a table fairly quickly, and the servers were attentive. But lately, we've been really disappointed. We've experienced longer waits because there aren't enough servers (or at least that's what we were told) which I understand happens but is rather frustrating when there is a lot of open seating. Once we're seated, it takes a while for our server to arrive and sometimes they forget to bring those delicious cheddar muffins until we ask for them. The last time we were there, we brought family in after raving about how good some of the food is and as we're placing our order, the server let's us know they were out of the first 3 items we tried to order. shoot just had homemade BBQ pulled chicken last night at a friends that was by far the best i have ever had... we ordered the brisket sandwich, two sides mac&cheese and fries... severely disappointed :( to me the brisket was super fatty... i am sure the fat helps the flavor but for me, that completely makes me lose my appetite. mac&cheese was probably my least favorite compared to other establishments... noodles werent soft, almost al dente but also of gritty texture, starchy for sure. fries, we probably just got the batch of the little pieces that are from the bottom of the bag, tasted ok but 90% of them (which by the way was maybe the size of a handful) were too tiny to dip in catchup... service was great & sweet tea was fabulous! read more

I am so bummed bc for a while there we really loved this place and it was our go to. But the last few times I have gone, our orders have been totally wrong (like, rung up on the receipt and the waiter tried to cover it up and still fed me the wrong thing, WRONG). Service went from great to sub-par. It's so convenient to our house but for the service (mediocre at best), food quality (cold meat and watery mashed potatoes...yes that actually happened), and way high prices...we will just go to Cool Springs Brewery up the road. Salty pulled pork! It was Labor Day and I was in the mood for BBQ so we decided to give this place a try. It looked a little busy but we only waited five minutes for a table which was great because I was hungry. I ordered the pulled pork plate with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were drier than I care for but you don't necessarily go to a BBQ restaurant for the sides. Halfway through the pulled pork I had gone through two glasses of water. I have never had pork that salty. I couldn't finish it so I took it home to put on bread and add some sauce to tone down the saltiness so I could eat it. The service was good.
