Just ordered a pound of beef brisket "extra moist" this evening. I should have checked my meal before departing the restaurant. Upon opening my meal, I found the brisket to be dry and lean with a consistency similar to smoked turkey. I called to complain and to exchange it, to which they asked for a receipt and for the meal to be uneaten(I hate dry beef!) I was just there 30 min ago after a 20 min drive mind you. I returned the meal along with the untouched sides. I waited 15 minutes as they got a new batch of meat ready. They kept the dry meat(which I hope they don't re-serve to a customer) They had me keep the cold sides(fortunately I have a microwave in my hotel room), and they sent me away without a bag. A waiter witnessed me leaving without a bag and grabbed me one. A pretty poor experience. The other location on the other hand has great brisket and while I won't vouch for their staff....I doubt it'd be as poor as this. read more

Our go to here is the chopped brisket. It gets the job done but isn't anything special, and I think the prices are a tad expensive for BBQ. Jim N Nick's is a traditional sit down restaurant on the inside with a drive up lane for ToGo orders. I feel it's best to call your order in if you are taking ToGo because every time I've gone in the drive up my order gets incorrect. If Jim N Nick's is nearby and you are craving BBQ, this certainly will do. read more

I placed an order to pick up. It was supposed to take 20 minutes. I called when I arrived and was told they were running a little behind. An hour later I stopped an employee delivering to another car and asked about my order. She brought it out with an apology. No refund, no coupon, no I added some muffins nothing. Then I called to speak to a manager and waited 20 more minutes and no one came to the phone. This is the worst service and not worth the astronomical prices charged for the food. Last night a friend and I went to Jim n Nick's for dinner. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with my meal. I ordered the Carolina burger. The description of the burger was smothered in bbq sauce , crisp onion ring and bacon and Cheddar cheese,needless to say the bacon or onion ring was not crisp and it had very little bbq sauce on it and my burger was not cooked well done,my fries were not cooked fresh. They only thing that was good about meal was the cheese muffins and the waitress. They also don't have a good selection of food choices anymore. I loved there bbq nachos but the no longer serve them. Wow! I'm not a huge fan of BBQ food, but this place was amazing. It was recommended by one of our staff members we are so glad we choose it. We ordered take out for our staff. The cheddar biscuits are out of this world (cheesy and sweet). We had the pulled pork which was juicy and didn't even need the BBQ sauce (but of course it was an extra burst of flavor with it). First time at this Jim and Nicks. There location in Birmingham has been a regular stop on our pilgrimage south to Florida for the past 20 years. We were seated on the bar area around 7:00 on a Friday night and was disappointed when I tried to order brisket and they were out. Next I asked about some of there local beers and the waitress couldn't answer some basic questions ie Do you have any wheat beers? Is the Avondale a lager? So the bartender came over and asked if I wanted a sample which I eagerly accepted his offer.....however it never showed up so I rolled the dice on Truck Stop Honey. Not bad but one was enough. Not because I wouldn't have drank another but was never asked if I wanted another drink. Waitress shows up again asked if we needed anything so I asked again about a sample of the Avondale... same result. The food showed up relatively timely but the meat was cold and my wife's salad was hot enough to melt the cheese... sssume it was because it was sitting under a heat lamp or close to a grill. Multitude of other issues but it pains me to revisit. Unfortunate, was really expecting the same quality experience as the Birmingham location but not even close. I felt as abandoned as a kindergartener whose mother forgot to pick him up at school. ********************************** I'm down in Montgomery, Alabama with colleagues, and our hosts took us to their favorite local haunt, Jim-N-Nicks BBQ. Forgive me, but the first thing I look at on the menu is the beer list, so I can be ready when the server comes around for drink orders. Reverend Mudbones caught my eye. Now slowly drawl "Reverend Mudbones Homegrown Hopshine" with your best impresson of an Alabamian accent.. It's hard not to smile, isn't it? It was a good, bitter ale, so I'm off to an excellent start by the time the food orders are taken and served. Honestly, the food quality, not to offend Montgomerians, was average. I had the 1/2 rack of the lean baby back ribs and would definitely give the nod to Red, Hot, and Blue. After dessert and coffee were brought to those in the mood, and bill dropped off, the problem began. Our server did a Houdini and completely vanished. No more water. No refills on coffee. If you'd changed your mind (like me) and absolutely had to have a slice of "Mabel's Homemade Pecan Pie," you were left coveting your tablemate's. Flagging down another server, prompted a never-fulfilled promise of, "I'll find out who has your table." I felt as abandoned as a kindergartener whose mother forgot to pick him up at school. Now at this point the "18% gratuity for parties of x or more" rule sticks in my craw. In fairness, I found this post by fellow L.A. Yelper, Zizi B. in a string on this exact topic: "Large parties are notoriously more difficult to handle. Would you like half your party getting their drinks and the other not? It takes a lot more time, organization, and work to handle large parties, and that's why restaurants give them to their best servers. Large parties also sit for a long time and they dominate the servers' time. If they decide to not tip, then the server worked all night for nothing. Thank you, Zizi. I accede to your argument and will begrudgingly pay the 18% even when I'm the victim of a disappearing act. I have to admit I'm not a meat lover but I was convinced by the 'bama natives around me that this was their favorite bbq place. So of course, I had to order some bbq, which was a pulled pork platter. It was mediocre to say the least. I am originally from New York and am sorry to say I've had better up north. Overrated and overpriced for every meal. BBQ is not the best in the world. Several other places are much better. Just another chain trying to make comfort food. Service and staff are not impressive in the least bit. If the food was not good the service needs to make up for it in some way by being prompt. Lacking in these areas. The collard greens were good eventhough I usually don't like it when cooks use vinegar, but they were good. The coleslaw was just ok, but was fresh. Cooking method and flavor were excellent. How ever meat did not break away from the bone easily. Sides of slaw and baked beans were very good as well. Beans had a kick and seemed home made. Thought the sauce, Carolina style was excellent. Regular, mild kick and not spoiled by to much vinegar. Just right. Habanero, was to hot for me. Others may enjoy. This was really good for a chain BBQ restaurant. We had a variety of menu options amongst us and all were good. Ribs, brisket, chicken, pork, etc. Meat was tender and not at all fatty. BBQ sauce was tasty. Good selection of beer. I had a Samuel Adams. I did find their tequila sunrise too sweet, though. I couldn't finish it. All sorts of traditional southern sides were offered. The okra & tomato was a bit different from what this New Orleanian is accustomed to but was delicious. The cole slaw is excellent. Baked beans are but it is hard to mess up baked beans. Onion rings were big and fresh. Service was good, very attentive unlike another review. That could be because we went on a Tuesday night & only had a party of 4. I've eaten at the JNN in Atlanta, and (other than the ribs being too salty) I enjoyed it enough to revisit. I decided to try it again in Montgomery, and I'm confident that I will never eat here again. First, the ribs had more fat on them than meat. Second, I know that stuff happens, but the one thing that was truly memorable about JNN was the creamed spinach (with artichokes...ummm). They ran out of freakin' spinach. Third, the other thing that was memorable about the JNN in Atlanta was that they had delicious $3 margaritas. Well, my margarita at this location tasted like margarita mix and LEMONADE...like maybe they were running low on margarita mix TOO and decided to just mix it with freakin' LEMONADE. Though our server was nice, the food here is absolutely terrible. I had to explain how to build a salad (no, a healthy salad does not have heavy cream dressing, bacon, croutons, or cheese). The nachos were the second worst I've had, save your money there. The one positive was the turkey sandwich with white barbeque sauce. My group got ribs, pulled pork, brisket, beans, slaw, potatoe salad, and greens. everything was absolutely delicious. The habernaro bbq sauce was really good! Has the flavor of something that would be really spicy but it has a just a little bit of a kick. Really good. There is one thing that we all agreed needed some work. Their original bbq sauce was too tomato sauce/ketchup tasting. Might just be a personal preference from all of us but we feel there should be a good Smokey bbq sauce available. I was here about 5 years ago and this restaurant was amazing. I returned again a few days ago and was highly dissatisfied. The muffins tasted old as if they were sitting out for a few hours, the cheese had set and the muffin was chewy. The collards lacked seasoning and the baked beans were smothered with bbq with no additional spices. The brisket was ok but definitely not the best. I LOVE Jim 'N Nicks! Whenever I'm in Montgomery, I make it a point to come here. The parking lot is ALWAYS busy for the lunch time rush! The soft corn bread that they provide (and refill generously) is just so soft, fluffy and yummy! I love the pork ribs (had it twice so far) and it hasn't failed to satisfy. The price is very fair. I have been to Jim N Nicks quite a few times and I have quite honestly never been disappointed. I played a take-out order and decided to pick it up curbside. I was quite sure what to order but, I knew I could always go with the classic one pound of spare Ribs, Mac and cheese, Baked beans and cheese biscuits. It was exquisite as always and I'll definitely be sure to visit again, in terms of COVID guidelines, everyone was wearing a mask from what I could see getting my food curbside. And in terms of sustainability, everyone came in styrofoam plates and cups, so there could definitely be improvement there. read more

Decided to call in and pay for the order over the phone so that someone else can pick it up (this was a couple days ahead) I was asked to call back the afternoon of when the order would be picked up ... called back mid afternoon only to be asked to call back 30 min before the order was going to be picked up. I usually don't review local chains but I HAD to leave commentary regarding our most recent visit. We went in for lunch yesterday and the first thing I noticed were the sanitization stations all around. They also had a board detailing the precautions they're taking during this time. My husband and I travel often and have yet to see a restaurant with these things in place. I was very impressed. Each guests is sat with social distancing in place. Our waitress Fallon was AMAZING! She wasn't pretentious or trying too hard. I could just tell she had a really sweet and genuine spirit! She takes her job seriously and it shows in her service. Our food was delicious from the bbq chicken and loaded mac to the chicken tenders and collards! We have not experienced service like this in a restaurant in this city in quite a while! Solid barbeque and great sides. The baby back ribs a very meaty and moist. They were smoked to perfection and pulled off the none with a slight tug. They had a nice crust from a good rub and really didn't require any sauce at all. If you wanted sauce, they have a darker brown habanero sauce that complemented the slightly sweet rub on the ribs. Their Original Concoction sauce was a lighter red, thinner and a good mild sauce that would work on anything. The sides were great. I had the creamy collards (collard greens with a creamy Parmesan sauce kind of like creamed spinach) and steamed cabbage which was the vegetable of the day. The steamed cabbage was excellent. It was cut into strips and had bits of bacon and a savory pot liquor (juice from cooking for all you non-Southerners). It should be on the everyday sides menu. The cheddar biscuit mini muffins were a nice touch to start. I always stop by a Jim 'N Nicks location whenever I come by one. read more
