Another "Not Freaky Fast" location... This being the second time I've ordered here, and both take over an hour. This time, we're at 2 HOURS since I ordered and over a HOUR since I got the "In delivery" notification.. and, I didn't order during peak time, I mean 120pm shouldn't take over an hour for a sandwich...

I was in town for the annual St. John's vs. Navy croquet grudge match, and after a liquid breakfast of bud light and champagne, I was starving. I passed several tables full of alumni snacks and was on the verge of turning on the charm when I spotted someone holding a Jimmy John's sandwich wrapper. If I was a dog (shush), my ears would have been pointing forward. I HAD to have that sandwich. So I pulled up the Yelp app, ditched my friends and scrambled towards Main Street, dodging townsfolk and tourists alike. The campus JJ's smelled like home (I used to cashier at one of the two locations in Gainesville, FL). It was also packed. The staff were extremely efficient at getting people in and out of the store as quickly as possible; despite a line of 15 I got my Turkey Tom within five minutes. Why the fixation? Simply put, the french bread is fantastic. Beyond that, the ingredients are fresh, there are a million combinations, the house chips are legit, and I love the snarky signs on the walls. $5 for an 8-incher isn't too bad a deal, either. I left JJ's cradling my sandwich like a football, and if it wasn't for my long history of friendship with Ellen S, I would have said no when she asked me to share. As it is, we both went back there for dinner (this time for my beloved Beach Club). I left my heart on Main Street.

They advertise their vegetarian sandwich as a gourmet sandwich with layers of provolone and avocado spread. I barely found any avocado in my sandwich and there weren't "layers" of provolone at all! The sandwich was mediocre, the bread wasn't that great, and the lettuce was browning. Seriously Subway or Blimpie would have been better. Skip Jimmy John's and find another place to grab lunch!

Even my 2 YO Grandson enjoyed his first ever cheeseburger! The tomatoes were from the Eastern shore and juicy thick...the lettuce was "clean and fresh" and the burgers were smashed to perfection (a little crispy on the edges). This particular morning, they were offering a breakfast burger special: smash patty with bacon, egg, cheese, onions, jalapeños, and cilantro lime sauce. Their regular menu sells two different burgers: The Classic Double (lettuce, tomato, burger sauce) and The Retro Double (pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard). I opted for the retro double. The burger was good. It had a nice crust on the outside. There was enough ketchup and mustard on the burger to taste, but not so much that it's dripping off the sides when you bite into it. The fries were good. I wish they offered a bigger cup of them since they're almost $4. Burgers are $9.79, fries are $3.95, and drinks are $2.00. They also have merchandise like t-shirts, hats, and hoodies for sale. The employee that took my order was really friendly. I hope they make a return to the Crofton Farmer's market! I would definitely get burgers from them again.

To be honest, the kiosks were the most polite employees in here. Good thing too, as you rarely saw a member of the staff in here. I placed my order and just kind of stood there. I figured since I was waiting for my food I would use the facilities...but as you get to the door, you realize that you need a code to enter the bathroom. Luckily for me, a staff member was wiping down the tables and I was able to ask for the code. When I finished with the facilities, I came back out and my food was not ready yet. I wasn't even offered my cup so I could at least fill it up. Maybe they were going to fill it up and serve it to me when my food was ready. Since my order was not ready, I ended up finding myself a seat. Good thing I did too, it was another ten minutes before my food was ready. They were so slow in here preparing the food that a driver pulled up to pick up a delivery that they just left without the food. I feel bad for that person that ordered food. In fact, you can tell that they were more concerned with the people using the drive thru than they were with the people actually inside the building. I know that you need to be attentive all around, but ignoring one group of people over another doesn't accomplish this. When I did get my food, they automatically put my food in a to go bag, even though when I was ordering I said I was dining in. Nothing to worry about, but I did have to unpack the bag to eat. Food was on par for a Taco Bell, but service is seriously lacking here.

I'm still not sure if they were making a grain bowl or a modern art installation, but hey, art is subjective. Now, about the utensils. There were approximately 14,379 forks. No knives. Not one. When I mentioned this, the response was... well, let's call it "emotionally consistent with someone listening to whale noises in their head." Very zen. Very Labrador-being-told-about-quantum-mechanics energy. Timing here? It's its own category. Not quite fast casual, not quite slow food. More of a "we'll get there when we get there" vibe. Like a road trip with no map, but at least the music is good. Highlight of the visit? Watching a young man "wash" his hands. One hand at a time. No soap. It was a bold choice -- hygiene minimalism, if you will. The glove application that followed? A true masterclass in confidence over competence. And yet... I'll probably be back. Because despite all this, the people are nice, the place is clean, and even interpretive grain bowls have their charm. Plus, I'm kind of invested now. I want to see if a knife ever appears.
