We went here for lunch my boyfriend ordered the slim 6 WITH turkey and I ordered the slim 4 with roast beef the girl (Diana) ringing us up didn't tell us the slims were only meat and cheese with no toppings and instead she went ahead and rung us up for some other sandwich on the menu which was about 2$ more... We then got our sandwiches and my boyfriends had no turkey and was rung as a veggie when he went to ask they said he "ordered it wrong" and if he wanted them to make him a new sandwich he had to pay 2$ extra for the turkey. This review is specifically for this JJ's, not JJ's as a whole. Came here after the Decemberists concert in Millenium Park got out to score some cheap/quick grub. I got a Turkey, no mayo, with avocado (who gets avocado on turkey? me). The (extra) avocado was $1 extra, but I was up to the challenge. While the service was fast, I was surprised when I opened my sandwich to find a very sparse amount of guacamole on my sandwich. I demanded retribution. Where was this delicious avocado I had forked over 1/6 the price of this sandwich for? I told them that I ordered extra avocado. I was promptly told by what must have been the manager, sporting a Che Guevara shirt, that I had received it. This slight smattering of guac was supposed to be a few slices of avocado. He told me that if I wanted more it would be a whole dollar extra. When I told him that I thought that was ridiculous, he gave me a short lecture on portioning. I just think its ridiculous that if someone calls you out on your bullshit chain store portion policy, you just shrug and give them a little more of whatever topping they want. You don't defend it like a good little capitalist lackey while wearing a Cuban revolutionary's shirt. In all, had these people been much older than me or whatever, I probably would have written it off. But since they were my age and they were being such dicks about it (I've worked at a restaurant before), it rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, the "hall pass" for the bathroom is really lame, even though I understand downtown places have problems with vagrants. Freaky Fast! No, seriously. They are ridiculously fast. In the store and by delivery. I freakin' love them. Sure my office is right around the corner, but I swear they run. Every time I go to a Jimmy John's, I'm reminded of how much I dislike these places. The roast beef doesn't taste like roast beef. The tomatoes don't taste like tomatoes. The bread tastes like air, not fresh baked bread. All this can be had for only $7. I implore you to go instead to a place like Fontano's a couple of blocks away, and compare it to Jimmy John's. I've been to this location quite a few times and always get the #12 Beach club (tuna, avocado, sprouts, provolone, etc). The last time the jipped me on the avocado so this time I specifically asked them to make sure they put enough on there. Well, the cashier had an attitude and asked if I wanted to pay extra. Yes it's a chain but here's the thing...whenever I go here I know exactly what to expect and am never disappointed. My sandwich always tastes the way it's suppose the get my order right every time (number 1 with no tomato). Also I can add chips and a drink and still fork over less than $10.00. That's pretty stellar for lunch in the loop. Also the service here is fast...I wouldn't say freaky fast...but fast nonetheless. Haha, I just got props from one of the "sandwich artists" (oh wait, i think that's a Subway term) at Jimmy John's for the custom sandwich I always get. It's the vegetarian sub + salami. This time I got it with both the salami and the capicola (they come together), oil & oregano, sans cheese. I love the sprouts, cucumber and avocado spread that the vegetarian sub comes with but I need more flavor! So, add the meat and you have the perfect sandwich. NO STARS... This Jimmy John's in particular is a filthy MESS. Lets start with the Lettuce Wrap that was delivered to my office...the lettuce leafs were coated in a fine grain sandy substance. Just to make sure that I was not losing my mind, I asked my assistant to touch the lettuce...she said YUK!!! So I call the manager Ryan and he promply tells me that "he has to make 18 lettuce wraps and yours is the ONLY ONE with a problem!!!" as he yelled that another would be delivered to my office...AND SLAMS THE PHONE ON ME! So, I call back again and tell him that I am not comfortable eating a wrap considering he was being so foul and rude, just refund my money. Nope he screamed "WE DONT GIVE REFUNDS!! I TOLD YOU I WILL PERSONALLY MAKE YOUR WRAP!!!!" and hung up on me again. So I walk the wrap to him personally AT THE SHOP and he commences to acting a fool. Guess he did'nt have his meds.... Sad, but I love Jimmy Johns sandwiches, however my business will never patronize this location again (we spend hundreds monthly on Box Lunches for meetings). Jimmy Johns is one of my favorites and the state street one is usually my go to lunch spot. I've noticed some of the workers in there are very reluctant to take your order and I'm often found walking up to the counter with no one there. Their door into the building is also very poor... it doesn't shut completely and it's very difficult for people with bags in their hand or sandwiches in their hand, to open the door in or out. I do appreciate how they usually say "have a good day" when I leave but I wish I got paid attention to more when I arrive. Today, I also got this GROSS looking conglomeration in my bag of "Jimmy Chips" (jalapeño flavor). The bag was not expired, but can you explain WHY or HOW or WHAT this monstrosity is? I don't blame the people working at the restaurant but I think Jimmy should know, if more of this asteroids are in his other bags of chips, then customers will not be happy. Also, sadly their sandwiches often "lose" their meat and toppings when you bite into them. I still love how they taste but I wish there was some way for the people making it to actually push the meat and topics further into the bread so it doesn't fall out all at once. Years ago when Jimmy John's first arrived in Chicago, I had one of the worst sandwiches ever. It was like biting into a rock. I enever ate there again, until recently. I tried this Jimmy John's and I thought it was one of the best sub sandwiches I had in a long time. Fresh bread, plenty of meat and shredded lettuce and the perfect amount of italian dressing to go with my italian sub. I just finished eating one myself. The service is quick and that's a good thing because some times the line can be out the door, literally. Be ready to pay up front, they take cash, credit and debit. And go with the lunch special. I took a break from the conference early this afternoon to forage for food. Not overly interested by the options right by the Palmer House -- either steakhouses, burgers, or your basic chain restaurants -- I took a long walk around the block to see what else I might find. After crossing Madison, I looked back across the street and saw a Jimmy John's. Jimmy John's! So I turned right around, crossed the street again, and made my way to one of my favorite regional franchises. I tend to be anti-franchise, but I've loved Jimmy John's since 1991 -- they've been in business since 1983 -- and eat there every chance I get. I also tend to order the same thing every time, too: The vegetarian sub, #6. It's the perfect sandwich. This time, I got a bag of salt and vinegar chips and a small cherry Coke to go along with it, and I scarfed it all down in no time flat. Thank you, Jimmy John's. I don't like that I live and work near 2 Jimmy John's locations because it's hard not to stop by often for a quick bite to eat. I like coming to this one though. This location has a friendly bunch of people working there. I swear you feel like Norm from "Cheers" as you soon as you walk in (okay, maybe not quite like Norm since they don't know me by name). With all the "hi's" or "Hey's," etc. coming from all directions, they make you feel welcome. A good lunch option if you're in the area, but be ready to take your food to go....seating is almost impossible! read more

Okay, I am a deli SNOB... I usually don't like franchised places like Subway, Quizno's, etc. for my sandwich needs (and I have a lot of sandwich needs... mmmm, sandwiches...) but I LOVE this place. I can't remember the last time I've had a better ham sandwich. The ham is just so tasty, and they give you exactly the right amount. When I went back to California for a weekend, I had a huge craving for Jimmy John's, but we don't have them there. So I ordered a ham sandwich from another restaurant and it really just was not the same. The ONLY reason to give this place 4 stars (make that a 4.5) is that it gets really crowded at lunchtime and there isn't a whole lot of room to sit... but that's not unusual in the Loop. read more

Oh Jimmy John's, how I love you. While everyone is busy in love with celebrities like Zac Efron and Justin Timberlake, I am in love with Jimmy John. Everytime I walk into Jimmy John's, I order the Turkey Tom with no sprouts. Some people like alfalfa sprouts, but I do not recommend it because most people do not like it. However, the sprouts are good for you. I even buy the loaves of bread to go home and make my own version of the Jimmy John's sandwich because the sandwiches are quite expensive if I buy them everyday. This review encompasses the entire franchise of Jimmy John's. Besides the smell of their bread, I don't taste at all what is the big deal with this place. Their menu selections look like they're trying so hard to be unique but to me just look like some creative overkill. "Let's put alfalfa sprouts with tuna! That'll get the the hippies and the working stiffs!" Hasn't everyone gotten over the TGI Friday's "lets sodomize your eye sockets with random crap on the walls" thing yet? Granted they do have the signs custom made with their brand of snark, but it still looks like a gas station supply store. read more

Really sick of this location. What's the point of the option of customizing your sandwich if you won't follow the instructions? I always specify that I want extra tomatoes, as I like to actually taste tomato in each bite, however, they almost never give them to me. It sucks that they feel like I don't deserve those few extra tomatoes. Also, delivery has not been like the motto the last few times we ordered from them - super slow, like 25 minutes slow. I came to this Jimmy Johns ONLY because Chipotle wasn't opening for another 30 minutes and this was right next door. It was a typical Jimmy John's visit, but unlike other JJ locations, they didn't have a menu on the wall where it was actually eye level with you. Their menus are above their cash register. I didn't have my glasses on and it was INCREDIBLY hard to read the menu. My fault, I know BUT other JJs have paper menus for their customer's but this one didn't. They made my sandwich quick, I ate it and left. It tasted just as great as other places I've gotten it. read more

This particular JJ's really does operate by their motto (subs so fast you'll freak). It was a regular lunchtime spot for my co-workers and me, and once you have "regular" status they'll know you by name and have your sandwich waiting basically the second you walk in the door. Service here is really good especially for a fast food place. They're all so friendly and have great attitudes, especially the Steve lookalike (of SATC). read more
