I went to Jimmy's with two friends and for the 3 of us with tip the bill was 85$ so just don't let the outside fool you! We ordered sodas and salads before our pasta dinners. One friend got the chicken fettuccine and the other got the chicken Parmesan. They both liked their meals and had plenty to bring home for lunch the next day. I ordered a chicken dish with marinara that was similar to chicken parm but with sundried tomatoes. The garlic bread is yummy that comes with your dinner and the portions are large. Plenty for two meals so I'm not so mad at the price. We will be back. read more

This is my second time enjoying Jimmy's Italian Kitchen and it was fantastic. I suggested this to my friends when another place refused to seat us till all members of the party arrived, there were only 6 of us. The fried ravioli were fantastic and each entree came with soup, salad and two rolls! The portions were huge and we all ended up taking home at least half of our meals. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. You can tell they make their food from scratch. Don't be fooled by the way this place looks on the outside, it is a diamond in the rough. A Full bar and a wine list made everyone happy. Worth every penny when you end up with enough food to pack lunches for the next two days. We visited this lil slice of Italy after reading all of the wonderful reviews on yelp. Some of my fellow yelpers let me down. This place was nowhere near 5 stars. Sadly, I think I am generous giving them a 3. We entered and were immediately not greeted by the two servers at the door. They seemed to be arguing over who was going to take the table. I assumed they both wanted to get the table but it seemed like neither did. I would have felt better if they at least faked the funk. Instead, we ended up with a completely different waiter who said "I guess I will be taking care of you." Um ok, well I am glad someone will. Fortunately, he actually ended up turning out to be really cool. Service was super quick and dishes were bussed immediately. I was a lil bummed that they didn't refill my glass at anytime. Fortunately for them I got over it. I really love to patronize family owned businesses when it is practical. That was the main reason we drove 20 minutes to get some grub here. We expected the food to be oozing with homemade goodness. Sadly, we were disappointed. Portions were really generous however, they just didn't taste fabulous. The tomato soup was piping hot and was actually quite tasty. It kinda went downhill from there. Salad was the store bought cabbage-for-color salad with a plastic cup of dressing on the side. Not impressed. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and honestly I just didn't care for it. I can honestly say that this was the first time I ever put salt on spaghetti. It just lacked taste...period. There was not a whole lotta meat in it either. Fortunately, I have the sweetest husband in the world who offered to switch plates with me. His stromboli was pretty darn good. I wish it had been a little warmer but nonetheless it was filled with meaty, cheesy goodness. I was a little disappointed that I didn't stick with my gut and order the pizza. Apparently, that is what they are known for. The odd thing was...the restaurant was crowded and I saw not one person with pizza...hmmm... Ambiance was so-so. It's an old taco bell that they jazzed up a bit with some Italian artwork. Nothing snazzy but not a reason NOT to go either (although I think their meat sauce is). I ordered the pasta trio which was a manicotti, stuffed shell and a ravioli. Starting with the salad, it was plain iceberg lettuce and was rather dull. I had the tomato barley which appeared to be from condensed Campbell's can. Moving to dinner. The pasta trio was tasty but lacked any real spice. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi. A little different than my usual style for reviews, but I need to get to the point! I like my toast brown and crusty, but not my gnocchi. If you like it that way, Jimmy's Italian Restaurant is the place for you. Excellent eggplant, but can't get past the very hard, over-cooked, and unauthentic gnocchi. I rarely (if ever) send items back, but couldn't eat it! Instead of customer service and pleasantness, the returned gnocchi was met with disgust and rudeness from the management. Despite telling us that they would take it off of the bill (it was inedible), they "had to" charge us $8.00 for the paltry salad and soup (that was supposed to accompany the dinner). If you want average Italian food with below average professionalism, this is the restaurant for you! Even after talking to the owner about it who said "I eat it this way" I knew my words would fall on deaf ears. It is unfortunate because the eggplant dishes had promise, but the management's poor attitude toward customer service instead left a sour taste in our mouths! read more

Incredible food! This is a wonderful hidden spot in an old Taco Bell building. The first time I went here that's exactly what I was expecting... sketchy fake Italian food. I was delightfully surprised to find absolutely delicious and what seems fairly authentic Italian food. The first time I went there I could even hear the cook speaking Italian in the background. We just visited Jimmy's for the first time this evening and were very pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and prompt. The owner came around and greeted everyone. And the food was delicious! It's a good portion size for a good price. I had spaghetti with meat sauce while my fiancé had their supreme pizza. The ingredients all tasted so very fresh and not greasy. We saw some menu items that looked amazing (seafood trio and stuffed eggplant), so we'll definitely be back to try those! read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Welcome to Jimmy's Italian Restaurant...where the NEW owner simply refuses to assist a customer if they are unhappy with their meal. Today our family spent $70 for an appalling dinner experience. One of our party members did not like the taste of their meal and raised the issue with his waitress. The kind waitress returned the dish to the kitchen...and then we were introduced to the owner. The angry owner held the returned dish in front of our party. She said the customer had ordered the item and there was nothing she would do. No apology, no offering to change the dish or remove the item from the bill. She said we will be paying for it and she would box it up so the dissatisfied customer could eat it later! The owner was extremely confrontational with our entire party. Moreover, she stormed off from the table making comments about our party in front of other patrons and the staff. In sum, the owner was impolite, hateful and unwilling to provide any level of proper customer service. As a result of the owner's attitude, the entire party lost their appetites, and the evening was ruined. It is important to note our waitress was polite and apologetic throughout the ordeal. It is disgusting for a server to apologize for the owner's behavior and lack of social skills. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT JIMMY'S ITALIAN KITCHEN 1. "Jimmy" is no longer the owner. The restaurant changed ownership a few months ago. 2. This is not an "Italian Kitchen." Italians take great pride in their food with exceptional courtesy and treatment of their customers. This NEW owner does not possess any of these qualities! 3. Expect to eat and pay for your meal -- even if you do not like it. Don't think about asking the owner for help. 4. This restaurant is located in an old "Taco Bell" building. It might be best that "Jimmy's" close and reopen a Taco Bell. I was skeptical about this place because it looks like an old Taco Bell from the outside,which I think it must be. Inside it was pretty and nice and the food was great. I got chicken piccata and it was pretty good. My husband got the veal parm and it was delicious and I loved the sauce on it. The dinner rolls were kind of weird but good. Had a nice glass of wine. Pizza, Calzones, Stromboli, Sandwiches, & Rolls are also on the menu. Traditional favorites such as spaghetti, gnocchi, lasagna, Linguini, and fettuccine are offered at a moderate price. You basically get quality food for a very reasonable price. Service was very friendly and attentive. After perusing the menu for a few minutes, I decided to try the lasagna. Dinners also come with a small bowl of chicken & rice soup, salad, and garlic rolls. The lasagna was absolutely delicious!!! Amazing service (as usual) and the owner came out to talk and wish me a happy birthday, while also offering a free bottle of wine (probably because we had already ordered two!) If you're not looking for it, you might miss this little Italian gem which is located right behind United Dairy Farmers on the corner of Dorothy Lane and Woodman in the Town and Country Shopping Center. Whether we've had their baked ziti, or the lasagna, or a New York roll, we've always left satisfied and glad we chose Jimmy's for lunch or dinner. Their pasta fagioli is made to order and it's delicious and filling. We ordered it today with a sausage roll and had to take the roll home. We love how friendly the staff are and the service is great. When you're looking for a local, clean and friendly Italian restaurant that knows how to cook authentic dishes, go to Jimmy's, you won't be disappointed. No, this isn't fine dining, but for what it is , it's good food. Italian food in Dayton typically means pasta and marinara sauce; this place is no different. But the entrees are better than average, and I particularly dig the pasta bolognese and the gnocchi, but with Alfredo sauce and garlic added. I've found the servers and the owners to be quite pleasant and friendly. This was our first time to Jimmy's. Mom ordered the Bolognese spaghetti. It was her perfect sauce. She likes it a little on the sweet side, she prefers Jimmy's over Olive Garden and Spaghetti Warehouse. I had the Chicken Alfredo the sauce was creamy. The chicken was delicious and cooked to perfection. I have never gone anywhere, where the chicken was moist, tender, and cooked. The food was still burn you tongue hot when we ask for boxes. There was enough food for two in each portion. Each entree came two garlic rolls that were fresh. The garlic rolls were soft and soaked up your pasta sauce for a perfect bite. Our meals came with soup and salad. The soup was fresh made and delicious. The Italian dressing was also wonderful. We will be returning. read more

Based on the other reviews, a friend and I stopped here for lunch today. She had a sandwich and I ordered the Trio; it's ravioli, manicotti and a stuffed shell covered in cheese and sauce. One word...delicious! It came with 2 garlic/cheese rolls for $6.99; quite the deal! The sandwich came with chips and was enjoyable as well. I went to Jimmy's for the first time tonight with my mother, and it was awesome! The food was delicious, it came out quickly, and the service was excellent. I tried the meat lovers pizza, which had a terrific crust, homemade sauce, and delicious meats. Whenever a refill was needed at our table, it came without having to ask. Let me start by saying my boyfriend and I were so excited to try this place out as it was recommended to us, however we ended up be very disappointed in the overall food and service. It was Friday 7/23 that we went to eat here we got there around 5:30 so it wasn't too busy at the time. We were seated promptly, however after that things took a turn for the worst. Our server came back after 15 minutes to take our order (ordered at 5:45 roughly). The dinners come with rolls and salads. We ordered Caesar salads and they came out at a decent time after we ordered, but then came the waiting time for the entrees. They started to get busier and we understood that, so we didn't ask about our food until around 6:40, mind you after we got our salads around 5:45 the server NEVER came back to check on us. We had to flag her down to ask about our food & request refills. She continually walked past our table, never once said your food should be out shortly or that they were backed up nothing at all. Finally we flag a different server down to check on our food a second time because about 15 more minutes passed and our server never came back. We finally got our food around 7 at which point we had waited over an hour for it. My boyfriend ordered the chicken Parmesan and I got the spaghetti. My food was not good the sauce was super Liquidy and my boyfriends chicken was extremely soggy (under cooked) and there was grease on his plate. We flagged down a server to ask if we could speak with a manager and we got the owner. The owner asked what was wrong and we explained, he said I'm sorry and took the meal off. Neither myself or my boyfriend ate our food about 3-4 bites each. We never saw our server after asking her about food, she would walk past our table and didn't come back. She didn't cash us out, didn't come back to check on us after we got our food nothing. After paying we still left $5 for her tip because I used to serve so of course I wanted to leave something. We got up left, and called back about 15 minutes after we left because we wanted to speak with the owner because we were really upset with the overall service. We didn't stay to chat there because they were busy and we didn't want to hold up a table for someone else. When we called i was very genuine and just asked the owner if we could express how disappointed we were. He said I already talked to you when you were here which he did but it was strictly about the food and all we got when he came over was I'm sorry. I tried to explain we were calling because the service was extremely slow, we barely saw our server, no one was checking up on us and we had to wave other servers down when we needed something and the food was rather disappointing as well. I can truly say I waited to write this review until a few days later, because when I say the owner was yelling at me (a customer) over the phone saying look at google I have good reviews and the server you're talking about has been her 7 years I'm not kidding. He was very disrespectful, I was trying to keep my cool. I didn't raise my voice I was just trying to speak with him about the service, the minute I bring it up he got extremely defensive and just overall became rude. (Didn't seem like the same owner we spoke with briefly at the restaurant, but it was). Again I used to serve I understand it gets busy and it's hard to keep up, but you can't let a table go for 40-50 minutes without checking up on them. You can't tell me that our food took 1 hour and 15 minutes to cook because again when we got there and placed our order they weren't busy yet, there were tables inside empty and most of the tables besides 2 outside were also empty. I have never experienced poor service until this restaurant. I have never experienced an owner not willing to take constructive criticism. We were open to coming to back until he began to be disrespectful. After he treated us that way when we called back he said I'll give you your money back and I said that's not why I'm calling (we already paid, left the restaurant and it was a done deal really). No customer should EVER have to experience that when we simply called to just speak on the overall service. Because the owner kept yelling and being disrespectful We drove back and I did request my money back. Again that was never the goal we simply wanted to express our disappointment. Also the cherry on top, when we drove back and requested the money back he REFUSED to let us leave the $5 for the server. He said you called to complain about her so you don't need to leave anything. I asked more than once and still said no. At that point we were done and that is the worst encounter I have ever had with a business owner. I work in commercial banking and I've met many business owners and overall met a lot of different people, and I can strongly say I have never been treated more poorly in my life. read more
