This place was great for lunch on a hot afternoon. Independent family run restaurant that has a simple menu with pizza, sandwiches, and classic Italian meals. They serve alcohol (beer and wine by the glass and bottle, with good choices). Not a white tablecloth establishment (booths and tables), but it was filled today with office workers and families at lunchtime. I had a small sausage pizza for lunch. Delicious crust, good aside that was not too spicy, and thin sliced sausage topping that was not too seasoned. Canolis for dessert (son wanted to try them). We'll be coming here again as a family because of the low-key family friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, and location. This restaurant is way too overpriced for the what you get. Went for lunch today and ordered off their lunch menu. For lunch portions I expected it to be lunch prices. Ordered carry out from this place for the first time last night. I was craving good, homemade alfredo and the reviews were good. It was very disappointing to say the least. The alfredo had no flavor. I feel like I paid $33 for two plates of fettuccine covered in butter- which I could have made myself for about $3 at home. They forgot our salads too. For the price ($17 per meal) I expected delicious food and everything I ordered. This place fell short. Really sad because the red sauce looked amazing and I was excited to try it. There's something to be said when you have regulars and treat them as family, but it shouldn't come at a cost of blowing off new customers. This was unfortunately our experience at Jimmy' s. Let me start by saying I like this menu a lot. Not huge but still really good options. We started with fried ravioli as an app. They were ok highly breaded and not really flavorful. Next salads, we both got house dressing, vinegar based Italian. Way too much vinegar for our tastes. Entrees were linguini with clam sauce, and spaghetti Bolognese. The sauces on both were excellent, but this is when we started seeing a trend. We were both confident that the noodles and appetizer were not made that day and most likely store bought. Despite this we were still not dissatisfied. I would say our issues started with zero refills on even water. Continued with the 10 minute wait on the bill. Next the waitress never coming back with a bag we requested for our leftover boxes, because she was entertaining obvious regulars. Finally we asked the hostess for a bag when it was apparent the waitress was done with us. She handed us a bag while not making eye contact because we were disturbing her despite not seating anyone, and she just let it drop on the floor. Night capped, we won't be back. read more

My family and I tried to have a nice family meal so we went to jimmy's. It started off okay but it was freezing inside, it was 40 degrees outside and they had the AC blaring. I called ahead with a reservation for a group of 20 people for a Friday night around 8p.m. The person I spoke with on the phone was very helpful in helping me set up the reservation and even allowed me to call back a few days later to add more people to my reservation. Although Jimmys is a smaller place, they were very very accommodating for our larger group. When we arrived they had the table all prepared, we did not have to wait at all! Our server was quick to come around with waters and take our drink orders. We ordered a few jugs of the wine for everyone to share. We also ordered the garlic knots as an appetizer. The garlic knots were delicious and a huge hit! For the main meal I ordered the shrimp scampi. It was delicious! I was very surprised with how quickly they were able to get everyone's orders in to the kitchen and served! It probably took less than 30-40 minutes to get everyone served! And no one got the wrong order or their order messed up!! The food was so delicious and came out nice and hot! Everyone was very satisfied with their meal! Not only was the food great but the service was even better. Our server did not miss a beat serving us and was able to respond to us quickly even while waiting on a few other tables. The other staff members were so friendly and constantly checking in on us and even thanking us for being great guests! Overall we had an amazing experience and many people came up to my afterwards to say thanks for picking Jimmys for dinner. Someone even said it is their new favorite Italian spot! Let me start by sayin g the food is amazing! My husband and eat here about two to three times a month. With that being said I am only giving three stars due to the last two experiences we had there. All I can say is do not go when they are really busy. It was obvious our waiter was trying to turn the table and kept trying to rush us. Big mistake! Nothing insults me more than a wait person trying to rush me. My husband and I ordered a pizza and two drinks. We did it ask for anything extra, but it didn't keep our waiter from setting a box and the bill on the table 10 minutes after our food arrived. But the real kicker was when the waiter tried to take our plates, WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING OUR FOOD!! Livid and irate doesn't begin to explain how I felt as a regular patron. Best food we have had in a long time. Well worth the drive to Kettering from Centerville, or from just about anywhere. Four people, one pizza, one chicken picota, one spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccini alfredo with chicken. Came with three salads and three bowls of soup and six garlic buns. We were all stuffed and took home almost half the food for a second delicious meal. $90 including tax and tip. Pizza is thin crust and flops a little bit. The crust is light and very tasty. Cheese is excellent. Pepperoni had good spice and ham was tasty. By far is the best pizza anywhere near Centerville, OH. Chicken picota had good flavor and the noodles were cooked just right. Spaghetti and meatballs was a feast on a plate. The sauce was fresh made from real tomatoes and was limited on spice. My kid said this is the best sauce she has ever eaten. The most delightful was the fettuccini alfredo. The sauce was perfect, a thick cream based sauce with no buttery taste. Also had a side of sausage. This link made me move this place to number one on my list of places to eat in the Dayton area. Not overly spicy (might make it even better) but it was MELT IN YOUR MOUTH MEAT! I could go back and get six of these and some alfredo sauce and be eating a meal made in Heaven. Could tell it was a family run restaurant. Wish there were more places like it. I quite like the food at this restaurant. Do not let the location or physical plant deter you. Everything is homemade and delicious, especially the Bolognese sauce. But the owner is a total A-Hole! The kitchen is very close to the dining room and you can hear everything. Tony is rude, abrasive and abusive to his servers. Not everyone likes everything exactly as laid out on the menu...but be weary of asking for any variations to the menu. Tont will freak out, make the server feel terrible and upcharge the crap out of your check. I asked for a side of Bolognese sauce and was charged $5. No biggie. My co-worker asked for her ziti to be tossed in the Bolognese sauce (the same bowl they were going to bring to me) before they brought it to me. Nick freaked out and charged an additional $3 for the labor of tossing her ziti in my sauce. WHAT?! $8 extra dollars for a small soup cup of sauce...and all the pain of hearing him complain and moan. I'll go back...but the guy should take some sensitivity classes and lessons in leadership. He is good, but not the ONLY game in town. Friends and I came here for a pre-half marathon meal, and we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered 4 different dishes to share, and the chicken piccata was my favorite. Their Gnocchi had very interesting texture where it seemed to be a bit crunchy on the outside, though it was still good. Eggplant special was definitely good considering I like neither fried food nor eggplant, but I actually enjoyed it! Linguini with clam sauce seemed to use real clams (based on the little chunks of shell that I found). Their bread is baked fresh (I saw them working on it) and the services was fantastic! Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is clean with good ambiance. I am a fan! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because their menu was confusing (many dishes weren't really listed on it, but on a specials page) and I wish they had a little more variety on their menu. WAITER/TRESS: Came by our table four times. 1) Take our order. 2) Deliver appetizers. 3) Deliver main course. 4) Check, please. --Not once did we get refills or a pass by to make sure our food was good. Oh, let's talk about that! Food. 0/5 Stars FOOD: Gag. I don't have extremely high standards, but this was the WORST Italian kitchen experience I've ever set foot in. --APPETIZERS: My wife and I received a soup (chicken vegetable, I think). All i can say is EEEWWWWW!!!!!.I took my 16 year daughter out for dinner to jimmys last friday night as a treat for passing her drivers exam.When i walked in i almost turned around and left because it was so hot in there but my daughter has been wanting to go there for awhile because she thinks the building is cute and i promised her a while back that i would take her.My daughter ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and i had the ravioli.when our food arrived i was shocked that there was these three little things drowning in a gallon of marinara sauce.It was crazy and daughter thought it was funny until she took a bite of one of those meatballs.My ravioli was overcooked and rubbery and was nasty.I managed to gag down one and part of another and that was all i could muster.My daughters noodles were overcooked and mushy and the meatballs were bland and very dry.I tried to eat a roll and they were stale and must of been laying around for awhile.I heard in the past that there food was not all that good but i had no idea it would be like that.The lady that served us was very rude and short with us.she has those tattoos on both her forearms that would make you think they found her at a truck stop diner and if the cook spent more time cooking instead of flirting with my MINOR daughter he might have half a chance of whipping up something edible.I would never recommend this place and will never go back.Get a real cook and some staff that know what customer service is Jimmy. read more

Visiting my 89 year old, 90 pound mother who resides in a nursing home & decided to take her to dinner. The place is a nice neighborhood restaurant with a new server. I noticed the serving sizes were quite large & asked to get a child's portion. The server, after speaking to someone in the kitchen, told me it was not allowed. Long story short, spent $87 for a fair to good dinner for 4, and took the majority of my mom's meal to give to the friends we ate with. Spoke with the person in charge, who did not want to lose his job by relaying my message to the owner. To sum it up, they have lost 4 customers by not being flexible on one meal. The food was really good, atmosphere was just...meh. Pretty run down, cramped and lots of knick knacks that probably don't get cleaned a lot. For the price of most of the food, I would think the atmosphere would be cleaned up a little more. Service was SLOW.....waited for over a half an hour after we received our appetizer for our salad and dinner. We reminded them that we hadn't gotten our food yet and they finally brought out our dinner but forgot the salad. Before we received the bill, we asked to be comped a couple dollars for not receiving our two salads. Apparently, that was too hard for them. First the waitress tried to tell us we ate our salads. Nope - I think we would have remembered that and the wait for our main course wouldn't have seemed so long! Next, they tried to give us two free desserts. Nope - we were tired of waiting for food (which the owner was very defensive and unapologetic for the first time) and just wanted a few dollars taken off our bill for the salads. Next, the owner came out and insisted the salads were free and therefore, we didn't need to be comped anything. Nope - last time I checked, salad ingredients cost money at the grocery store and their prices surely didn't just cover pasta and sauce. We just wanted a couple dollars taken off our bill to cover not getting the salads. Perplexed and obviously irritated, the owner refunded the cost of an entire $12 meal, even though we just wanted a few dollars taken off for the salads. WEIRD! I don't want to complain about not paying for an entire meal but that wasn't what we were asking for. The whole situation was just strange and made more difficult and awkward than it needed to be.
